Convention Impossible: MythiCon 2013 in Orlando, FL

Convention: MythiCon in Orlando, FL

Location: Double Tree by SeaWorld

Main Mission: Get autographs from voice actors and be a part of “Atop the Fourth Wall LIVE.”

Do you accept?

Hello everyone and welcome back to Nerdy Shique Universe! Well, another convention has passed and it was a first year one and I have been talking about it lately, which is known as MythiCon!

MythiCon is a anime, comics, and video game convention that was held from august 23rd-25th at the Double Tree near SeaWorld, which is located by the Renaissance, where Anime Festival Orlando was held this year the previous weekend. As said before, my fiancé and I decided to skip AFO this year due to panel screw over and for the guests that were being invited and see if it’s a place for Blind EXP next year. So, let’s see what I experienced!

Location: The Double Tree is a nice resort and is pretty easy to get around! Like the International Palms, it had pretty easy traffic except there were two buildings where each part of the convention was held in, as in the main conference building for main events, dealer room, game and video room, dealers, and artists alley while the tower had special events, video rooms, and panels, and of course registration and convention information. Sounds easier than the Sheraton International where JACON was held at during 2005 and 2006, which everyone had to go to the ends of the hotel for all the panels, events, and of course signings. I still prefer the Double Tree and it was a nice location for a first year convention to be held at, knowing Mythic, they will grow probably in the second year like what Florida Anime Experience and KnightroKon did this year.
Were pretty easy to find. Unlike some conventions, they are harder to find than others, fiancé and it was a print from Supernabecause of the amount of artists being there and they had interesting items, I even bought something from one of them for mythic, it was Artists with their section outside the dealer room while the dealer room is just three steps or so away. We spent most of our time in artists alleyone good example, MegaCon felt as though you have to walk to another city to find artists since they are moved around every year for whatever position the dealer room takes on or spread them out in the vast dealers. With My
Dealers and Artists Alley: Reason why I am putting this together is because it would make sense since Artists Alleys at some conventions are in the dealers or sometimes the convention tend to put some artists in the dealer room while the rest in the actual section for them. Anyways, both dealer room and artists alley were easy to travel from one area to the next since they were so close to each other but let a lot of foot traffic come and go. I did find some stands that were great, especially one I heard about on the Metro board and that was known as Grandma Thunderpants. I wanted to find them at Metro, since the artists area was so crowded on the second floor that it was hard to find until I found them at Myth and saw that their inventory is like what they had on their Etsie site, plus she did bring the new Evee charm just in time for X and Y, Sylveon. The dealer room, on the other hand, it was pretty small! I know they are a first year convention, couldn’t blame them for not getting many dealers for the first year. KnightroKon did go through the same thing when they first started last March except with limited space due to how much availability they got. With Mythic, I can see how they didn’t get many, especially with one dealer did turn them down and they were from Orlando. I did manage to find the girl who made the clip-on cat ears I loved, she recognized me since I did talk to her through e-mail, especially with a few requests for ears and one of them was for my Kyo Sohma cosplay, which were orange ears. I did get blue ones and the zombie ones to wear during my class on vampires, zombies, and mummies as a bit of fun. Trying to get a new bell since one of the bells don’t make the sound. If anyone is in Georgia for DragonCon, go to her! I highly recommend! Besides her stand, I did find a great stand from Melbourne that had a lot of items from Kingdom Hearts, Fairy Tail, Soul Eater, and so many other things but with a limited budget this time and from splurging during Metro, I only got the Fairy Tail phone case and right for my phone since it is a 4GS. I also did find the Japanese snacks guy and gave him business again since he carries items that Donga downtown doesn’t sell and found out he didn’t have the green tea Kit Kats I was hoping to try. He said he may have them for Holiday Matsuri but I did get some sour gummies and did buy more packets after finishing the first, then these Hawaiian chocolates which tasted weird on my tongue and probably won’t get again, I did get one item I hope he has again or will contact him for (which I asked for his contact in case I want to try items or see wif he will get something for conventions) and that they are green tea chocolates with biscuits. They are like those fancy chocolates you tend to find at Godiva or in fundraisers with chocolate catalogs where you see a cookie on a chocolate square, it is like that but it tastes more like Pocky in a way. I love these and may have to get them again since I love the green tea and I believe white chocolate combination since it’s popular in Japan and I did have green tea filled chocolates before and enjoyed it, but these biscuits add more flavor! I did pick up my fave addiction and that is Hi-Chew! I tried seeing if he had the Sour Lemon ones but he sold out during AFO the previous weekend! (Didn’t go to AFO due to MythiCon.) He did new ones I never got to try and they were Golden Kiwi, which tastes like a sweetened kiwi, cola ones that taste like Coke Cola, which you have the chewy part and there are crystals like the sour lemon ones and they taste like cola! Which puts a nice twist on the cola candies I tend to get at Donga. I did get another soda flavor and it is the ramune flavored Hi-Chew and it tastes like the ramune candies I get, even the ramune gummies I recently got at Donga, it is the same form as the cola ones where there is the chew and then the crystals but taste like the ramune soda you always find at conventions and Asian markets, and if you’re lucky, FYE. I also tried out a new drink and did keep me awake and that is known as Boss Coffee which is milk coffee. It tastes not strong like coffee candy but it is stronger than café con leche yoyu tend to find at Latin American restaurants. I may have to buy this again if I get in contact. Besides this stand, I did find the guy with a lot of old school stuff and he had a lot more stuff than Floirda Anime Experience, like old N64 games to an Atari and the Pokemon Movie 2000 lunchbox I got from him, which you ccan’t find anywhere! I am using the little Tupperware containers as holders for the Hi-Chew and sour gummies since those get stuck. I did forget to mention, I did get my fiance his favorite grape Hi-Chew. I even ran into a old classmate of mine who was running the Machete Kills 2 booth where he gave out free tees and shown movie trailers, which is always fun. So, yeah, the dealer room was small but at least they had some people selling items. I am hoping they get more next year since there are dealers in different parts of Florida, hell even try getting out of state dealers, such as one from Maryland as an example. Or even get a few comic book guys since there are small shops around Orlando and Sanford that exist and Mythic is a comic book convention. I will have to mention more in Needs for Improvement. Still, not bad for a first year!

Guests: This convention’s guest list caught our eyes and ears and had me and my fiance skip AFO for it, despite AFO getting the guys who played Bulk and Skull most of our childhoods. Who did they get? Sam Riegel, who has been in Gurren Lagan, Yu-Gi-Oh, and wrote for some Disney shows and one of the anime series we do love, Tiger and Bunny! Then there is one that got me to squee and that is Liam O’Brien! Orlando never got Liam until Mythic came around! I love him as Gaara from Naruto and Cain Highwind from Final Fantasy IV, it was great meeting him in person. What made me happy the most is Cheramie Leigh returning to Orlando since she hasn’t been back for a convention since MegaCon 2010. It was great meeting her again and she did remember us which was a bonus and had more items to sign for her and did come as her character from Fairy Tail, Lucy. I did wear the boots for our picture because they were hurting my feet when I tried wearing them in the dealer room and had flip flops when I want to be comfy, but at least I trooped through waiting in line in them and getting that pic. I knew I should’ve looked at new ones at Hot Topic, oh well there is always my Hot Cash! There was one guest that really got us and some of our friends excited and that was Linkara! We all know him from That Guy With the Glasses for his show, Atop the Fourth Wall where he reviews bad comics and sometimes burns them. I will give review in panels since it was fun seeing it and also meeting him and his title card artist, I was even lucky to meet Linkara before the convention even opened! Other guests that got our attention for this convention included Grant George (Disgaea) and of course, Little Kuriboh and his wife, Mary Anne Miller. (Surprised me to know they were married!) It was great meeting them all and now wishing that all the conventions, not only in Orlando but Tampa and other parts of Florida, should get guests like these. I did find out that Colleen Clinkenbeard was at ChaotiCon but she hasn’t been back to Orlando for a long time, which is a bummer, still at least Cheramie Leigh did make a return to Orlando after three years which made me happy, especially since she is in Fairy Tail. Plus, these guests brought in a pretty big crowd, especially on day one during the evening when Cheramie and Mary Anne had their signing, their lines were pretty long by what I witnessed, which is a pretty big thing for conventions when they get people from the anime industry to show up to meet their fans and ones they never met before or reunite with them if they met at other conventions they shown up at. Even getting internet celebrities is getting big since That Guy with the Glasses and The Escapists are getting pretty big when it comes to viewers and getting Linkara and Little Kuriboh even brought a big crowd, especially with what they brought, such as the new episode of Yu-Gi-Oh Abridged and of course doing a live version of Atop of the Fourth Wall for everyone to see and meet them one on one. I am hoping they bring more internet stars since it is fun being able to see them in the flesh and of course, surprise them as a blind person myself. MythiCon bring these people back or get other guests that never been or never returned to Orlando at the other conventions, I want to see more of them!

Panels: I spent the rest of the weekend, well Friday and Saturday since I had to do homework for school Sunday, seeing panels done by the guests. I did want to bring Blind EXP to Mythic but we decided to wait til next year and see how it is goes despite the convention looking for panels. They did get panelists but we only saw the guests on the first floor in special events in the tower. It is hard to choose which one I like the most because all the voice actors had very good panels where the ffans got to ask questions about them and how they record things! Liam did have to leave after his Saturday Meet panel since his flight had to leave that evening, but it was interesting and funny at the same time and I didn’t know he was Golem in The Hobbit but at least I know now since I can get my mom’s copy of the movie signed the next time if a convention in Florida gets him. I also enjoyed Cheramie’s Meet panel Saturday since she had a few ghost stories, one at a convention in Canada since hotels tend to get haunted and when she moved to Los Angeles. She even talked about an ice cream sundae she tried at Ghiradellis which I must try! Nyuu! And of course, Atop the Fourth Wall LIVE was the most fun panels of all because not only we got to see Linkara review a Godzilla comic but it was also taped to be put on the web. If anyone hasn’t been to a live session of the show, go if he is in town at your local convention because you get to be taped and also get a sneak peek at the next episode! Plus, a sing along is included. Another panel was both sessions of the Yu-Gi-Oh Abridged Q and A where Little Kuriboh gets asked questions and of course shown the next episode of Abridged. Great thing was by the Saturday edition, we went to both Friday and Saturday, the staff of the convention even came in to watch the episode since they are also fans of the show. Not only that, we even got to ask Mary Anne some questions since she was a part of the Saturday edition since she was at another panel or something during the Friday one. Still, awesome and fun with the internet guests, especially when the title card artist and Linkara decided to make a game out of Jeff Goldblum and Christopher Walken impressions, also great impersonations of both! This is what the major conventions need, something entertaining, especially when it is about evening and everyone needs something to do! Even though the Vault panel at AFO was fun last year, but being at Linkara’s panel, Little Kuriboh’s Abridged thing, and all of the Meet the Actors stuff was a lot more fun since the atmosphere was laid back and get to know things about everyone and get a laugh, I am guessing that I am missing the entertainment behind these types of panels? Yes! This is why MythiCon needs to keep going since I enjoyed what guests were doing and keep on bringing new people to the area so we can have these kinds of panels! But we will bring Blind EXP next year since Linkara did express interest, since I told him about it before the con started. As said, always next year!

Verdict? CONVENTION ACCOMPLISHED! Why? Even though it was going through its first year, MythiCon was a success! I don’t get why a lot of people were looking down on on it and thought it wouldn’t go so well due to how it was going to happen, as in the weekend after AFO, classes starting in Orange County, and DragonCon in Atlanta this weekend, but it seems like it still got in the people that would make it keep on going. I love the layout, from hotel to how it was set up, especially the brilliance of having a gaming room and video room in one, which our friends did play a video game and stopped to watch AMV Hell at one point, still it was brilliant since we don’t have to walk all over looking for the right video room for a specific show. Plus, they got pretty good guests, big names and small, and of course internet stars as well! It even brought local That Guy personalities, such as ERod since he is doing a crossover with Linkara according to the Title Card guy and Linkara’s Camera Girl, to Orlando to see the panel. It was great!

My message to any of the readers and dealers, and so on who looked down on this convention, please don’t! By what you read, this was a first year convention and it did pretty well for its first year and I give big props for the staff who worked hard getting people out to it, getting the guests, and tried getting panelists to join in, even people to audition for the show, still it was a great convention and I can see great things already from what I seen! Yes, I will get to improvements next, still great to know that these guys did something and did it well! Sorry to say, this is my new favorite con in Orlando, I know it used to be AFO but it hasn’t been fun until this one came to be! Way to MythiCon!

Needs for Improvement: I would have to say the dealer room needs to be improved the most because even though it was a first year but there should be more dealers to be not only reached to, even if it’s out of state, but there are comic shops besides Colliseum that exist in town, hell I even went to one in Sanford and it was near a Movie Stop across from Seminole Towne Center that is small but it would be great business for them. There’s even Acme Comics and my personal fave, Anime Pagoda. Still, there is always next year for them to come to this convention. Who knows, there would be more space opened up since there were floor spaces for two or three more. Still, at least they can get more if they can. Knightro kind of did it this year, who knows the next!

Timing: I am not ragging on this on MythiCon’s part but AFO’s. I seen a big turnout but it would be bigger if AFO wasn’t the weekend before this one, why? Well, it was because the Wyndham is being rebuilt and the convention had to move and moved to the Renaissance next door the weekend before. I am thinking it was due to location timing since it depends on how the convention has to work with what availability the hotel has but still, people thought MythiCon shouldn’t have happened due to how it was timed in between two conventions and the start of school. FYI, Omni Expo was the same way, it was a week or two before MetroCon was supposed to happen in Tampa and now they are doing it May of next year, which works, which MythiCon may take place in a different time next year or not, still AFO should have planned a bit better and let people experience Mythic the weekend after them a lot better, which is my opinion of course. As said, it is not the convention’s fault that the hotel had to give them bad timing, still it would have worked better and let people come to this, still it did bring a lot of people in the end despite its timing. It certainly brought us!

Video: One thing one of our friends brought up is how they kept on showing AMV Hell and Azumanga Daioh in the video area of the gaming room and how there should be more shows. I can kind of see why because I sat in on Azumanga despite me not liking it, it scared me the first time back in high school. I seen a lot of anime being shown at other cons, maybe Mythic should get into it or have a person MCing the videos time tto time and show three or four episodes of one show and then go on to the next. I know a lot of people may request other series before next year’s event but it would be nice to have a nice change for other things. There is always next year!

Well, that’s my review! If you guys want to check this convention out, please do! Also tell your friends! Even look out for the episode from Orlando of Atop the Fourth Wall LIVE and anyone out there, this convention is awesome and small cons like these should get a chance!

What is next on the Mission block? Holiday Matsuri! ::pats Edward Elric plushie:: Soon! Until next time!

Birthday and Collective Haul

Hello everyone and welcome back to Nerdy Shique Universe! Well, my birthday has passed and time for another birthday haul and I also have other things I did get before my birthday. What about the interviews you may ask? Well, my fiance will be getting the transcripts from them since they were recorded on the DS, I will see if he did it when he comes by. So, now onto the haul.

First Target and Walgreens! I had a lot of things picked up for a little while and didn’t get any time to mention it since I had other stuff going on such as MetroCon and of course class back then, but dropped it due to issues of tests, so here goes!

Target: I got a few stuff from Target and one of them happened to be Hello Kitty stickers since I was starting to run out on the sheets that I had from a Walgreens location and I do mention I use these stickers to mark my make up to show what is what in my bag. I even wrote a blog post about this for Lighthouse Central Florida since being blind is not easy and you can’t fit Braille labels on everything such as lipstick and other things make up related, I use stickers! So, went to the party favors section for these. Target does have an aisle full of stickers and I do get some of those but if I want more mainstream or other types I go to the party favor aisle and the Hello Kitty ones were in that aisle. Next I did go to the make up area and got a few cosmetic items and one of them was a bottle of Mermaid’s Tail from Sally Hansen. At first I wanted to get Pacific Blue but the Target I went to didn’t have it, but this one was really pretty since it was blue with green gold glitters in it. I also got the Double Duty during a visit before I got the Mermaid’s Tail, since I was halfway through the bottle before and glad I have it. I did have to get the Dr. Scholl’s in-steps for women for 11-13 during that visit, along with the Dove Go Sleeveless deodorant since I was doing Lucy and don’t want my deodorant stain the costume top, and did get more baby wipes. During the second visit, I did get lip products and man my patience was great with this one! I finally got my hands on the Berry Twist lip gloss balm from Cover Girl’s Biggie Lip Balm stains and finally they restocked by the time I checked. I wanted this before and they didn’t have it, loved my Plum Twist and wanted to know if they had the Berry and they did. Then went to Revlon and went a little Revlon crazy again since I love their lip products and one of them was the lip butters in Red Velvet. I don’t wear red lip products normally but decided to get out of my comfort zone by getting this after a YouTuber talked about it and wanted to give it a try. It is very pigmented and very red. Can’t wait to wear it! Then had to get a Lustrous LipStick in Fuschia Flash I believe? It is one of the pinks and it is pretty pigmented when I swatched. I wanted to get Iced Mocha since it sounded nice but wasn’t sure at first since it was a brown but realized I tend to use Double Choc with the Chocolate Mint Splash and the Latte lip tint with a mocha gloss, so sent my dad on an errand to get Iced Mocha. That is it for Target.

Walgreens: I realized I forgot to get pocket tissues and had to get some since I use pocket tissues in my make up bag when I need them and got a pack. And of course nail polishes! With the tissues! One is Miss Pixie by L’Oreal. Recently L’Oreal released their own gel polish line and it seems that I am getting into them more lately and this one came up in a haul video and it’s a nice royal blue with glitter, which the video person said that there were bad reviews about it on blogs and the L’Oreal site, so I decided to research and found someone review it. They said they just got it as it released and they tried it out and it lost color by the next day and then chipped the day after. Someone did leave a good comment and said they never got what the blogger experienced. I got a bottle and painted my nails in it and it lasted a week! I think it’s due to using the Double Duty along with the Growth coat I use on top when I apply the base, plus I waited a while for this unlike most beauty bloggers they tend to get it on the first release, I think that is what happened and the batch they got was first batch and decided to go to crap on them. It lasted a week on me. Then got two more of the Sinful gel polishes in Aspresso and Spitfire. I did go to Walgreens again and had to restock on my Wet N Wild eyeliner in Plum and then another Maybelline Master Drama gel in Eggplant and then another vial of their shine gloss in Pink Shock I believe. Which Maybelline was doing buy one and get the other half off. Which was nice.

Now onto birthday! I only went to Lush and Hot Topic again.

Hot Topic: I did get my annual coupon and found out that Hot Topic was doing a lot of specials as in 2 for $49 on their denim and buy one get one half off on everything. I got more of the Black Heart make up in the pink lipstick I was using and about to run out, then I got the sparkling pink which is nice! Got a sparkling purple eye liner, which I was meaning to try out! I will use this if I am feeling a sparkle on the lower lashline during the night or day! My fiance thought I was getting two liners but one of them happened to be the purple lip gloss! I finally have a purple gloss since I couldn’t find it at the Altamonte location, Florida Mall had it! Yay! I also got a Naruto shirt after so long and it is of that SD show that they do in Japan where everyone is a chibi and the shirt has chibi Naruto and Sasuke! I had to get XL since it was a girl’s shirt. I tried getting the Harley Quin one but it was way tiny and couldn’t fit on me, I could only get my head and one arm in which was sad. I did buy the Naruto one. I almost thought about getting the Pacific Rim one but I could get it with my Hot Cash next month, until my fiance shown me something made squee and that is a Hello Kitty plush dressed as Chun Li! It is so adorable! Apparently Sanrio and Capcom decided to band together to do a Street Fighter Cross Sanrio thing where the Sanrio characters dress as Street Fighter guys and Hello Kitty is Chun Li. I found out that Kerroppi is Blanca, I will get him next time since I love him so much! But couldn’t pass up the Hello Kitty as Chun Li! Besides my items, my fiance did get me something that made me happy and make up for something he did that made him late, well it was sleeping in the tub and that is get me a Iron Man hoodie which is of the Mark 42 suit from the third movie! Hot Topic did those limited edition hoodies like my Captain America one and I loved the Iron Man one since they also had Iron Patriot and Cap again but the movie version. So, my fiance got me the one of Iron Man since not only limited edition but made up for what happened that morning. It is in XXL because he wants to wear it as well, especially when Avengers 2 comes out in 2015!

Lush: This was for hair remedy this year! As you know I was using the Honey I’m Strong shampoo and conditioner duo for six months and well, it is doing the damaging thing as it always does with everything else and decided I should get shampoo and conditioner from Lush this time around since their hair stuff works on me, especially when I found my mom’s bottle of Rehab and it worked! I almost got Rehab but told the girl about how my shampoo and conditioner was doing the damage and of course kept my hair up everyday and she told me and I di get these and they are the Fair Trade Honey shampoo and Happy Happy Joy Joy conditioner! Both smell awesome and will work great with my hair according to the girl. Fair Trade Honey is made with actual honey and the stuff is great since it is natural and organic and can’t wait to use! Happy Happy Joy Joy on the other hand is made in the same formula as shine So Bright, which is the split end treatment I use, and nice thing is that the girl’s mother has the same kind of curls as I do and uses this conditioner herself and the curls are more defined and best to use this conditioner with! I will have to use it and see why it is so great! Funny thing is that this name is due to the creator of Lush’s wife hated Ren & Stimpy so much, they decided to name the conditioner after the song “Happy Happy Joy Joy” despite the formulation being a fave of the wife’s. I think it fits when I try it! I did have to restock on R&B since I will be going to the bottom soon by the looks of it! I went with the medium bottles like I do with shower gel since I know the large bottles cost, plus not sure how they will work until I use up my shampoo and conditioner! I also got one more thing that is not a cosmetic but something for charity! It is their water bottle. I know, “Whaaattt?” I know I can get a regular water bottle anywhere but this one is for their Take Back the Tap campaign that has been going on for a while now. The thing is we always see everyone have water bottles on them but did you know that all this plastic we use ends up on beaches? Hell, people leave their trash while on the beach! The girl who helped us went to the beach with her husband on an island off the coast and they spent TWO HOURS cleaning the trash in the spot they were in! So it is true aboutthat. Not only that, this plastic tends to end up in animal intestines and they tend to get tangled in it. That is why they say snip those soda rings when tossing. Anyways, this bottle is metal and costs $12. 95 and $5 goes to one of three charities you choose, one of them to clean local waterways, another to keep water clean near people, which I donated to since UCF has toxic waters (there was a news story about that last year), and to keep oceans clean for turtles. I would say get one of these since this will help clean water and keep plastic out! Especially for areas that tend to be near chemical plants, which I read a newsstory about one part of Texas having arsenic in their groundwater. So, head to your local Lush and get one of these while it’s still going on, you can choose silver, white, and blue, I got blue, and donate to a charity like I did. My free item by the way for my birthday from the store was a Dragon’s Egg bath bomb since a few months back when I bought Shine So Bright, I almost go another one but got two Fluffy Eggs instead in case they won’t come back, so got a new Dragon’s Egg since I missed it so much! My fiance almost had me get a bar of Icy Blue which is his fave soap but he did get a small slice or shall I say chunk of it, which we got to win on both ends!

Oh crap! Forgot my online findings!

After Metro, I did mention I couldn’t find the Lucy belt pouch she uses for her keys and well managed to find it online from the seller that I got the right Pisces and Libra keys and Capricorn for the ring and waiting for it to come in since it is coming from Hong Kong! I hope it gets here in time for MythiCon since I am doing Lucy for that con as well! Then I found these! Recently Wet N Wild did another Limited Edition line and since it has those words, Florida would either carry them or not carry them! What is it? It is called the Pop Art Craze line which features eye shadow pallets and nail polishes themed after the time of Andy Warhol and other pop artists! I read G’s post about the shadows and well, the colors were way too out there for me! I know I tend to step out of the comfort recommendations in blue and purple and go for greens, golds, and I do have that ELF pallet with the shimmery browns , but these were way out there! So, I decided to stick to the nail polishes and found a set of all six from a seller on Ebay! They feature two blues, one teal and the other just blue, a purple, a lime green, an orange, and white! They are the gel formula and I think it would be the right move to do it that way since the pop artists used acrylic paints and tempra at some points, so gel polishes it is. I think there should have been a red since red was used, but one of the eye shadow pallets featured red, I guess the polishes should feature the orange instead. I may use these at some point, especially with the OPI shatter polishes I own and the Hot Topic shatter from Black Heart since it will look great with white. Let’s see how that goes! And finally, just got this today. It is a ELF pallet with 32 eye shadows, some lip colors, a bronze, blush, and high lighter and it was $14. 99. I know my card hates me but the e-mail from Ebay was like “Still looking for ELF pallets?” And decided to see if the seller still had the pallet I looked at but wasn’t there anymore, so got this instead. Not bad of a price since it might be around $30 on the site and maybe more in stores but couldn’t pass up and it’s been a while since I got eye shadows and I do like ELF’s eye shadows a lot since they are so pigmented and easy to swipe depending on what color pallet you have. When I put the browns from my Christmas pallet for a neutral eye for Florida anime Experience since it would look nice with my cat ears, the lid color didn’t register as much as it did before, so I had to do two swipes. I guess it’s because I haven’t used it in a while and need to use it more often. Maybe I should do it tomorrow or something. Still, can’t wait what this pallet will give me. I will keep away from Ebay and my card for until I get alerted about my Hot Cash. Which you guys should get still! Go to Hot Topic and spend $30 or more so you can get $15 off next month! (Good deal, I had it last year!)

Well, that is my entire haul! I will make sure I get those interviews and by the looks of it do another favorites post for July and August and talk about MythiCon!

MetroCon 2013 Haul

Hello everyone and welcome back to Nerdy Shique Universe! Sorry for taking so long on this but spent the weekend over at my fiance’s and he got sick, so had to take care of him. So, MetroCon passed two weeks ago and man I bought a lot! As said in the review I loved the dealer room at this convention because I found a lot more things that you rarely get to find at the normal conventions here in Orlando and it was bigger and better than the AFO, Knightro, and Florida Anime Experience dealer rooms combined! Well, FAE this year wasn’t as great as last year’s by what I heard but still better at Metro. So what did I get? Here goes!

Cosplay

New Belt for Lucy Cosplay: Decided to start with the cosplay items because this year for my first Metro I did get a few cosplayish items and the first item on the list is a new belt for Lucy! I talked about my Lucy cosplay for a while now and when I got it in the mail within a week before the con from my buddy Manchii (Due to his Chii Cosplay from Chobits) I wore it the first day and the problem or problems I had were the boots, which I need to try and break in before MythiCon in a few weeks and of course, the belt! My waist is pretty wide and I tend not to wear belts and this cosplay I had to wear a belt but it is lop sided, as in it has to go across in a slant over my waist. The belt I got off of Ebay kept on riding up and and it couldn’t fit right, especially with the notches, so I decided to go and see about the leather seller at the con about a new belt and found one. It is pretty big so it will fit a bit more around the waist and will be more comfy and not ride up. Don’t worry, the skirt has a tight waistband so it won’t slip like how Lucy’s did in one episode in Part 5! Still, glad I got it and will have to get my dad to put notches in it before Myth!

Bell Collar: Speaking of the leather seller, I decided to go back to them and get this! A new bell colarr. I love putting the cat ears on time to time and I am missing a cat bell collar. I know I have my old one that I wore for my cat character, Runa, but don’t want to ruin that collar since it is a nice one and has rhinestone studs in it with spikes. I saw these Friday and almost thought about buying one but remembered I had to buy food and I did buy some items that day but at least need to eat. I did go back Sunday and got one before we had to head back to Orlando and it fits nice and comfy. It is also purple! Loves the purple! The bell also has a nice tinkle to it and it matches the bells on my furry ears in tone. I look too cute in ears and bell form!

Orange wig: This was the first convention I ever bought a wig at! There were wig stands around the dealer room and there was a wig shop across the street from our hotel and it was very convenient since I had to improvise a costume on the spot and remembered that I wanted to do Kyo again since I lost my bracelet and bought a new one and the wig I had before no longer fitted and the hairs were falling out like crazy, which is not supposed to happen to a short wig! I managed to find a new one on the spot and of course, the same shade as Kyo’s hair in Fruits Basket. So, I was able to cosplay as Angry Cat Boy for Sunday instead of Hatsuharu as planned due to getting my Ginji Amano wig mixed up with it. The stand didn’t have the Haru hair but they did have Nightmare’s hair from the Araction Seis in Fairy Tail, so anyone interested in doing a quick Nightmare cosplay, visit this stand with wigs and figurines in the dealer room if they come back. I almost bought their blackish blue wig but it was spiked up and not as great as my Kyosuke Ishida one since I may want to do Ryonosuke, the twin brother. Still, this stand has Nightmare’s hair. I am hoping they are back next year, I may reconsider the wig. Still, I love the improve Kyo costume.

Plushies

Ayame Sohma Plushie: Plushies are a guilty pleasure and I have a huge collection over the years, especially when it came to Sasuke Uchiha and Kakashi Hatake from Naruto! But I didn’t get Naruto ones but the first one is an Ayame Sohma plushie from Fruits Basket! All thanks to Anime Pagoda, which I will mention again down below, but they carried discontinued products until people buy them! I almost got the Haruko plushie at first but wasn’t sure but when my fiance saw the Ayame one, I knew you can’t find it anymore like the Grunty I got during Knightro, which wasn’t at the stand anymore which I am glad I got it anyways, but couldn’t pass this guy up. For anyone who doesn’t know who Ayame is, he’s Yuki’s older brother and he changes into the snake when a girl hugs him, except when Tohru meets him he hides in her shirt to keep warm since it was wintertime at that point in the story. Yuki finds his brother in snake form in her shirt and drags him back to Shigure’s and yells “If you are so hungry, eat this instead!” Which makes Shigure recognize him as Ayame and told Tohru that he is Yuki’s brother. And by the way, Chris Sabat is the voice of this character and he is really good at it! I may cosplay as him at some point, because I can do a bit of a creepy impersonation of Ayame. At least I have something to work with when I do it finally!

Flareon and Leafeon Plushies: I had to mention these together because I ended up getting these when I found out a stand that had Glaceon as well sold out before Sunday of Glaceon. I was sad but I did find Flareon and Leafeon there and got them instead. I did want to collect all of the Evees but my Jolteon plushie is not being counted since it is the tiny one that you find at the Japanese Pavilion in Epcot but these are better! Why? At least they are made better than the plushies at Epcot and it feels as though an actual Japanese distributor put a lot of work, especially with Leafeon! I never got to see Leafeon before but I can see why Glaceon is favored a little more than Leafeon, but at the same time grass-types in Pokemon become very strong over time! And the detail in the plushie is amazing, as in they made the leaves life-like and the branch notches hide a little but you know they are there! Flareon on the other hand, looks like how he is supposed to in the cards and games, plus he has a lot of fur added on, especially with the tail. I am hoping I find the other Evees including the newest one for X and Y, Silveon but may have to wait a little while, probably next year for vendors here in the states to carry it. If I find Glaceon at MythiCon Day 1, I am buying him right then and there and probably others such as Vaporeon, Umbreon, Espeon, Jolteon in these and seeing how better it looks and will carry it instead for my character Ike, and of course the classic, Evee!

Happy from Fairy Tail: I know I got the pillow pet, now its licensed form, which I will be talking about next, but now I have the actual plushie! I love the cat from Fairy Tail and the plushie is very cute, especially the size I got, why? He has a pouch that you can fit little things into it! I even put one of my lip balms into it while I was over at my fiance’s to keep it from getting lost and knowing which one was being used before I placed it into my pocket. So glad I found this one and I can hug him when I am sad since his name is Happy.

Happy Licensed Pillow Pet: I know I should’ve included this with the plushie but it deserves its own entry! As you know, back in May during Florida Anime Experience I picked up a version of the Happy Pillow Pet but this one is a knock off! Yeah, there goes my $20 because this was not the actual pillow pets you see on TV, how? Well, the knockoff takes on more of a standard pillow you find at Target or WalMart and put a Velcro strap across it and attached Happy’s tail and head to it and sewed the wings and pouch around his neck to it! Plus, it is way too light to be the same color as Happy, which is a standard Royal blue. The licensed one is an ACTUAL pillow pet! As in, the tail has extra felt to bring the texture, the wings are actual wings and they take on the flying form you tend to see when Happy carries natsu or Lucy when he has to fly someone and there is an actual pouch in the center and the ties are around his neck like it is supposed to. The head is smaller and has more detail to his smiling face! Plus the ears take more on the plushie’s form. And the strap is better with this because it has a nice cover for the Velcro when it is in pillow form so it won’t fade while you lie on top of it. Plus the arms and legs in the pillow take on actual leg and arm form like he’s flying, unlike the knockoff, as said, it is a standard pillow and no Velcro cover. I know I am trying to sell the knockoff, but it does sound lame. But they are still really comfy! I had to resist falling asleep on the actual one while listening to Game of Thrones. Still, it was a better buy since I have an actual pillow pet version of Happy and I am hoping they make one of Carla, Wendy’s cat you get to see show up. If they do make Carla, oh yeah, I will buy that! Anyways, great buy at the con!

Bags

Kyo Sohma bag: I didn’t get many bags this time around, I almost got Usa-Chan and Stocking’s cat plush as a bag but didn’t want to go splurging like crazy due to MythiCon, but did and waiting for some pay back since my fiance wanted something really hard to find and a Mass Effect wallet. But I did get this at Anime Pagoda, the Kyo Sohma bag! I love Kyo from Fruits Basket and I found this out from the woman who was substituting for the weekend because the owner was off with her dad who had surgery that weekend and was making sure he was okay, the bag along with the Yuki one, was discontinued and they have been waiting for someone to buy both. I bought Kyo since I love cats and was doing the costume that day I got it and was glad I did get it. One thing I love about this place is that they carry items that are discontinued until people buy them out of that item! If I find them at MythiCon, which I will have to check their schedule for cons, I will get the Yuki one to help them out since I love this seller.

Mugs

Homura from Modoka Majica and Sailor Moon mugs: Speaking of Anime Pagoda, I finally got my kitty paws on these! They are the mugs of Homura from Modoka Majica and the Sailor Moon one with the entire group in a purple/black background. As you know, I love collecting mugs and anime ones are the ones I have been aiming for! I still have my FLCL one I bought from them with the cat and now I got these. I meant to buy them during KnightroKon but since I bought a good inventory of stuff from them, I wanted to wait and well patience did me good this time around! They were back and got them. I am hoping they have Fairy Tail ones soon! I bet you are wondering why they didn’t have Madoka from Madoka Majica as a mug, unfortunately these two were the only two mugs they brought to the cons right now and of course due to how fragile and limited of a space in every dealer room allows, I guess they couldn’t bring all of their mug inventory. I do like Homura from the series since she is the time traveling witch girl among them and she did her best in preventing witches to come out in her friends. Oh well. With the Sailor Moon one on the other hand, I started to collect a few Sailor Moon items since I remembered watching it on Toonami and loved the series a lot, I did get the Jupiter and Mars pins, I even have the Saturn top and the broach that Sailor Moon has during R and Superr S, and now the mug, well one of them which has the original scouts, Tuxedo Mask, and cats. It is an awesome one, too afraid of using it since I did get chips in my Coqui mug, especially a chip my dad tried fixing but lost the piece later on. Still, nice mugs, I recommend going to their page.

Wall Scrolls

Fairy Tail Cast scroll: It’s been a while since I bought wallscrolls and glad I found a stand that was doing two for $30 on their scrolls which is a nice deal since other stands rarely do this, but I had to take it up! First one is the Fairy Tail cast one since I love this series a lot! Back during FAE, there was one stand that sold out of their Fairy Tail ones but I did get it at Metro and this one is a close up of the main team, Natsu, Happy, Lucy, Gray, and Erza, which of course is a staple among the wallscroll collection. I did find a Plu and Lucy one which I might be able to find at the cons if I can look hard enough, I know I will find it. Hey, I did find my Black Cat one with Jenos in the back and both Train and Creed fighting. Anyways, who knows MythiCon or maybe Holiday Matsuri may have it.

Team Kid scroll: I have been looking for this all over the place! I LOVE LOVE LOOOOVVEEE Death the Kid from Soul Eater and have been looking for wallscrolls of him since I have the plushies, the bag, shirt, and keychains of the asymmetrical guy but couldn’t find one! Then I found this and it is of him and the Thompson sisters, Liz and Patti. I do have the plushies of the team so why not? It still has Kid anyways. Knowing my fiance, he would be like “Get it signed by the three!” Since Cheramie is going to be at Myth in a few weeks, who knows when Jamie Markie and Todd Habrecorn will be back, not sure I will want the scroll signed, at least I will have them sign each plush since I am going to be taking Patti with me!

Accessories:

Blair’s Hat: I know I should’ve mentioned this item during cosplay but it is a collector’s thing I have and I tend to like hats and my fiance pointed this one out! It is Blair the Witch’s hat from Soul Eater. I did mention at one point I wanted to do a Blair cosplay because she turns into a cat and well didn’t know how to get the parts or find the hat except online and Cosplay Magic was selling the costume for a little much! I amy do it for Halloween by getting a standard witch costume and blue wig to do a bit of a knockoff version. Anyways, my fiance remembered how I love Blair and he pointed the hat and good news is that it fit since it’s a one size fits all. Glad it fit my head with the orange wig on. I will probably be wearing it on Halloween since I am known for wearing witch costumes and I think it will be easy doing it and carry a small pumpkin since she uses Halloween spells. A nice little idea!

Gray necklace and Happy bracelet: I think this needs a both mentions. Well, since I have been collecting Fairy Tail items and these two we found at the same stand where we found the Blair hat and it is the Gray necklace, which is some kind of stylized cross, I believe it is supposed to be a remnant of how the rave stones looked in RaveMaster since it is by the same creator. I may wear it after my birthday since I am wearing my Leo key necklace since I am born in August and my birthday is Friday! Yay! Then the bracelet is just one of those jelly bracelets you see everywhere sell and it has Happy all over it doing different faces! It is so cute! I couldn’t resist since being a cat lover, I almost got the Happy beanie but I can just get it at Myth since there may be a lot more sellers and hoping to find more items.

DVDs

Zeta Gundam: Remembered how I was waiting for pay back for something from my fiance? Well, this is it! It is all the DVDs of the Zeta Gundam series in the original packaging! As in, you get the actual DVDs taped from the DVD seller that has it and it costs $100. Reason being is that ever since Bandai closed its American distributor they stopped releasing the items and whatever you can find you have to buy it or you can’t find it anymore, especially the special edition collections. Or you may have to find the Japanese editions of what was released here in the states like with Galaxy Angel Rune. Anyways, I was in a pickle because I felt I didn’t want to splurge despite having money and I wanted to save for Myth with what I had left and the same time you can’t find this anymore, so I did get it since I know my fiance will pay me back somehow. Now we have this rare item!

Digimon Season 2: I know it sounds weird but we found all of the first three seasons of Digimon and well, I loved the second one the best since the Digimon looked awesome in their armored forms and the story takes a more darker route, I had to get it.

Fushigi Yugi: The anime I first heard of Bridget Hoffman, well this was the first season I bought. Even though I saw the entirety of it and found the ending okay but the story was pretty interesting. I also remembered having the first 8 eps from a friend on some video tapes and it had Chinese subtitles and since I now have the first 26 eps on DVD, I can watch it without the subs! The disappointment is the box, I don’t know who packaged this box but some of the parts were broken. I am not sure if I can find the seller at Myth or at next year’s Metro, I am hoping they can give me a new copy without the broken parts.

Well, that is about it! I know it was a lot of stuff but the dealer room was worth it! I am impressed with what they sold and what dealers they brought. I think some were local Tampa ones and I know one was from Fort Myers, which was the one I got the Flareon, leafeon, and Happy plushies. I am hoping I find some of these guys again at Myth in a few weeks or at Metro next year since we will be going back! What is next? I am going to ask my fiance to get a written transcription of Scott’s and Brittney’s interviews from the recordings. And of course since my birthday is around the corner, birthday hauling! Stay tuned!
