MythiCon 2014: Opening Ceremonies!

Hello and welcome back to Nerdy Shique Universe! To continue my series of MythiCon Press Coverage, we have the first video for you and it’s the opening ceremonies from this year! As said before this was the first year we video recorded things and this was the first item we video taped. Sorry about Siri talking and the person right next to me who was describing things onstage is Mr. Nerdy Shirts himself since I can’t see anything. So enjoy the video! Next we will try and get the first interview and that is with Eric Stuart and his performance from that Saturday. It was split into two parts due to my phone giving out three questions in, we will figure it out and get it to you guys asap! Also you can go to the Nerdy Shique Universe YouTube channel anytime if you want to rewatch our videos! So search for Nerdy Shique Universe on YouTube and if you haven’t been to Mythic and missed it this year, be glad we got footage for you all! Stay tuned for my Eric Stuart stuff and the interviews with Dameon Clarke and John Swasey!

MythiCon 2014 Haul

Hello everyone and welcome back to Nerdy Shique Universe! Now that MythiCon is a Convention Accomplished, now it’s time for my haul! Yeah the dealer room was kind of lacking but I did have a few good finds in the dealers room and was glad to find something I’ve been looking for for months and couldn’t find at any other place, what was it? Keep reading!

Fairy Tail wallscrolls with Natsu and Grey on one and Lucy and Loke aka Leo on the other! As you know my collecting of Fairy Tail items keep on going no matter what and have to get it at every convention I go to! For instance my Happy backpack and my Plu plushie that I carried around during this year since I have him with my Lucy cosplay! Two items I did find and they were wallscrolls and I tend to love collecting them even if I can’t see them, especially the group pic of Natsu, Happy, Grey, Erza, and Lucy I bought at Metro last year. I was happy to find these two and they are one of Natsu and Grey back to back and the other is of Lucy and Leo spirit in his human form as a member of Fairy Tail back in season 1! I was happy to find the first wallscroll because I was looking ALL OVER for the Grey and Natsu one because my friend Mr. Nerdy Shirts found it for a friend’s son back during MegaCon and I wanted it due to how Grey and Natsu are the opposite elements and yet their fight scenes together are badassery in poetry! As in fire and ice fighting together. The thing was when I heard about this particular scroll I decided to see about prices on EBay and found it and decide to come back to it if I didn’t find it at a convention which I do go to EBay if I can’t get it at a local shop or at a convention and my luck didn’t prove itself during Omni Expo since the only thing that one actual anime stand had was a Wendy Marvell in a bikini figurine which would cost me almost the same price of my Sae in a bikini figurine from Burst Angel, well by $15 off of $90. Then Metro came and looked all over the stands with wallscrolls and they didn’t have it when Metro was where I found my Team Kid scroll from Soul Eater. Then tried asking a friend to find it for me at AFO and nothing! Finally MythiCon and managed to find it and five bucks more than EBay, I didn’t care since I was glad that I finally found the thing at a convention! I may hang this on the wall near my figures cabinet or the one of Lucy and Loke because I spotted this on day one and I couldn’t find my zodiac key as a keychain, which I am looking for still to go with my Lucy and Plu key keychains, I decided to get this wallscroll due to how it shows what the Leo spirit looked before he became his original form. And of course, I cosplay as Lucy at the conventions! I still do and will try to get the mark painted on my hand next time! I may hang the Lucy one or the Natsu or both! I will figure it out!

Disgaea 4 wallscroll! Major rare find of the convention! While we’re on the subject of wallscrolls, we were able to find this one! As you know we’re basing our wedding on the Disgaea game series and Gondras’ tux is going to be based on Valvetorres’ from the fourth game and was able to find a wallscroll from this game at a convention! Normally Nipponichi only sells their anime series that they release at stores or on their website and the merch on the site but this was something we found at a convention! We couldn’t pass it up and there was a special at the stand where the Lucy scroll came from. So glad Gondras spotted that because it is a rare find and we know it! Now to see about Troy Baker coming back to a convention next year, this is going to get signed along with my Black Cat one!

Happy in Swim suit plush from Fairy Tail: Yes, another Happy thing! I can’t help it he’s a kitty! This was a surprise find after we interviewed John Swasey, we had to meet our friends in the vendors room and stopped at a stand up front and that is where Gondras spotted the Happy plush! It was way too cute to pass up even though I did pass up on a Assistaroid plush backpack from Cat Planet Cuties since I had to choose one due to my money depleting and remembered I had to buy food and pay off my DS games after the weekend so I chose Happy because he is too cute and is wearing a swim suit or was it cap? I forgot! Plus the dang character makes me happy when I get upset. I will find the Assistaroid backpack on EBay when I get to use PayPal again. Gotta love the internet!

Kakashi cake 3DS XL case: Another item that I picked up and it was from one of the artists! We found her table as we left Chuck Huber’s table since Tobi had to get his Death Note signed by him and when we saw her table and saw handmade jewelry and cases for the 3DS in regular size and the XL. Her cases were awesome since they had characters on cakes! There were so many to choose from such as some from Sailor Moon, Fairy Tail, the one that got me put down the money was one of Anbu Kakashi with his dogs from Naruto! I love Kakashi and always remembered Gondras always cosplaying him for years and decided to get it! I know my 3DS is one of the special edition Pokemon X and Y DSes but this was a purchase I couldn’t pass up and it’s a case you can’t get anywhere!

Toshiro Hitsugaya bag from Bleach: Yes, yet another messenger bag for the collection and it was due to a bit of an incident of losing items by accident during the weekend and Gondras thought it would be best to start looking for a bigger bag. I prefer messenger bags since I can just reach for stuff easily than a backpack! Even though I did have my backpack during Omni, messenger bags are still my favorite and I tend to use them on a regular basis as a purse. The one I ended up getting is one with my fave character from Bleach and it’s Toshiro Hitsugaya from Team 7 and I haven’t gotten anything of Bleach for a long time since I lost interest due to how bad the anime has gone filler and then story and even more filler despite Naruto Shippuden is being guilty of that since it has been catching up with the manga but doing some game promotion stuff with the fillers. Anyways, this is a bag I never seen well heard of and knowing Bleach stuff is rarely at conventions due to how Fairy Tail and Attack On Titan have been getting popular. Even Sword Art Online is rising in popularity. I’m glad to get this one because it looks like you can’t find it much anymore and the bag I’m looking for is still the Tiger and Bunny one with the comic strips on it. For now, happy to get a somewhat rare item.

Doctor Who postcards and buttons: We did stop by at a entire Doctor Who stand in the artists alley area and glad to be back because Gondras saw stuff of the Fourth Doctor along with the Third and Seventh. They were buttons and postcards of them. He got Tom Baker as  postcards and then a button of him along with the one before him and the 7th! The 7th was for Linkara because he cosplays him for the little commercial inserts on Atop the Fourth Wall online and he didn’t bring the costume, at least he left with a small gift from us besides giving his title card artist the last Jelly Baby. I hope we find this stand again because I want to see if they have 10th buttons again and may have to get the postcards and hoping 12th has postcards. The new season really is interesting!

Felicia Button: This was something I rarely see and it was done by the same button seller I saw at Omni, which I bought his Fairy Tail buttons back then. Gondras spotted the one of Felicia and we rarely see anything of her nowadays. I can see where it was made due to Marvel vs. Capcom 3 a few years ago. Can’t help it! Kitty!

Money Sucked by Plushies! Oh yes! More plushies and they’re from a stand that had a ton of Pokemon plushies and others from other series! At first I bought a medium size Raichu plush. I know, another one!? Yes, this one was a bit bigger and fluffier than the mini one from Metro! It was a bit of an ouch but since he is a rare thing to find I had to get him! I can also use for my Pokemon Ranger cosplay for now on. I know the life size Raichu is impressive but it’s hard to hold most of the time during conventions. Still grateful that a friend made it for me. More money did go to this stand all thanks to three other plushies! One is of Kakashi with his sharingan and he’s reading his book! I rarely seen this one since all my other plushies are of him as a dog, him holding kunai knives, having his sharingan out, and in Anbu uniform! This one never seen it until now and had to get it to add to my collection of Kakashi plushies! Then got two other Pokemon and they are Marill and Mew! These two are also impressive since the size is more than the tiny ones you tend to see at other stands and at Epcot! Hell, they even have a Magikarp plushie in this size as in between 12 and 16 inches! I should’ve gotten Sylveon and Vaporeon since they were the same size but I can get them at other cons and who knows this same vendor might be back next year! I did love Marill since it was cute in this size and my Pokemon Ranger character did grow up with one as his first Pokemon and Mew…too cute to pass up and I loved how big it was compared to the ones at Metro and Epcot! If you see this stand, I highly recommend!

Mint Chocolate Pocky: I had to mention this since not only the stand where I got the Lucy and Loke wallscroll also had the Disgaea 4 wallscroll but it also sold snacks. It did have my fave green tea Kit Kats, I have way too much Japanese candy to finish, they also had various flavors of Pocky! I was happy to find one that I don’t see much and that’s the chocolate mint flavor! OMG this is amazing! I am glad to buy two boxes because I finished one during the con! It tastes like mint chocolate chip ice cream! I am hoping to see if the Japanese snacks guy at other cons, even at Omni next year, I want more of this! If you see this, I also highly recommend to try. The milk flavor also tasted good since Vivi offered me a stick but my money went to the mint chocolate one!

Money for signatures by Eric Stuart! I know I rarely purchase autographs but since we wanted to save time and go to panels we went to Eric Stuart’s table in the dealer room to get stuff signed. What sucked was that he charged $10 for stuff. Well, I did mention he was a singer and a way to get the money to produce stuff is through fans and I was glad to do that! He did give me a good price and did sign my stuff and it was worth it on top of it. I was happy to get my stuff signed by him after waiting for years to meet the guy! Yes, I will post the interview and the performance soon.

Gondras did also purchase one of Linkara’s DVDs of his show, which was another bonus! I did pay off my copies of Smash Brothers 3D and Alpha Sapphire and did put some down on the strategy guide for Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire because I need to know what each gym leader uses and their levels after all and where to go when I’m stuck. So glad I got those paid off and picking up Smash Brothers in a few days! Also, another nice souvenir since we are on the subject of Pokemon and Linkara, all weekend Linkara traded starter Pokemon from all the regions and I did trade for a Piplup while Gondras traded for Totodile. Made sense since Gondras played the original Gold and Silver while I started with Piplup when I first got my first DS and had Diamond and started with Piplup. Now she’s a Primplup.

Well, that’s about it for this big haul! Even though the dealer room was lacking at least I got pretty good stuff! I hope next year there are more anime vendors to buy from with the amount of shops that inhabit Florida and other parts of the state and willing to travel. Always next year! And same with Omni Expo.

What is next? The first videos for this blog! I did mention we taped stuff at this convention and you will be seeing it! And we do have a YouTube account on top of it! Stay tuned for all of that!

Convention Impossible: MythiCon 2014

Hello everyone and welcome back to Nerdy Shique Universe! I mentioned in my Ipsy Bag post that MythiCon passed and you know what that means! It’s time for another Convention Impossible! So, was it a accomplished or a complete? Find out below!

This year was the second year for MythiCon and I had the pleasure of doing press for this convention this year along with Gondras and Mr. Nerdy Shirts since I decided to have a complete team. Not only that, before I got the press badges for us I also bought my badge when it was the $30 tear on MyConsOnline and decided to pass the three day pass I bought to a friend of ours that rarely goes to conventions and wanted him to share the experience of this one with us!

Location: The location was still the same Double Tree by SeaWorld near Aquatica, which is close by to the Renaissance, which of course AFO was held a year ago before the Wyndham was finished in time for this year’s AFO. They did change the convention layout due to another conference going on so they had to move Main Events and Special Events to the building in the back to be with the game room and have the dealer room, panel rooms, viewing room, and signings in the main registration and lobby area! It was a long walk for everyone between the two buildings but we could understand why with the second building, which was where Special Events took place last year along with panels and registration. And what was also great was that there was a special voucher for anyone who was parking at the hotel and that it costs $7 for each day and that was cheaper than the regular parking cost of $15 and I would say if they do this again, do get this voucher since it does save you parking costs! Plus you don’t want to get in trouble with police since this year with conventions International Drive and the attractions parts of the area were kind of cracking down on who can park where, I heard about it with MegaCon the most for this year, so we were glad to park at the Double Tree and have handicap parking so we don’t have to park as far in the entire property like with the Wyndham years ago! So this was she same great location with a great bonus!

Vendor Room: I decided to talk about the Vendors Room next since I remembered last year’s being tiny and it was where Special Events was last year but this time it was in the main building and had more room and more people to take over. The vendors choice this year felt not enough anime vendors and a lot more Artists Alley like at Omni. I am not bashing on the artists since I do buy from them and did pick up pretty nifty items from a few this year and will mention that in my haul post from this con but it felt more like there were more artists and the first four or so aisles were filled with them and then from the front left side, next to Chuck Huber’s table (will talk about guests next, don’t worry) towards the back where Linkara, Bennet, and Eric Stuart were had the anime store vendors and it felt like there were only four to five of them when there was supposed to be around 51 vendors according to the Mythic section of MyConsOnline. I did like the sitting areas to take a break which wearing flippy floppies Friday and getting them wet along with my Lucy boots on Saturday, I felt relieved to relax there and my buddy Rayne wished MetroCon did have these as well! I agree, it’s not comfy to sit on a floor and having a table to set your bag down was nice. Back to the amount of anime vendors and artists, I feel like they could’ve had more anime store vendors than artists since it was supposed to be an expansion from last year and using more space that was given along with it. I seen a lot of vendors at MetroCon that came across the state and from Orlando, especially with Anime Pagoda last year, they could’ve gotten most of those vendors to show up. What happened guys!? I did notice that one of the sponsors was Disco Tech, which they had a stand at Metro as well, which is how I got Jinro and Attack On Titan from them, why didn’t they have a stand at this convention as well so they can sell DVDs which it seems to be lacking at most of these events by what I noticed when it came to Orlandoo. I thnk it would’ve been great that they would along with other DVD vendors like Anime Pavilion, which is still around, and even that stand from Maryland and the one from Georgia who came to Florida Anime Experience come to this convention. I know there is always next year, I think I would be happy to purchase some new anime series while I’m at events like this like how I did with MegaCon and AFO years ago and now MetroCon since I picked up pretty good DVDs. Mythic, if you’re reading this, please add DVD vendors and also add more anime merch vendors because that was lacking despite able to get pretty good stuff this year, I think I bought more items this year than last year due to how many more vendors appeared. Still, more anime vendors should be around.

Guests: This year’s guest line up was amazing! They brought not only guests that haven’t been back but also ones that never been here to Orlando and also brought back three guests from last year and they were Little Kuriboh, his wife, Mary Anne Miller, and Linkara! I was really happy about them, LK and Linkara the most, returning for another year. What also made me happy was that Little Kuriboh loves Orlando! That is a really good sign where the guest really loves coming here for a convention! I think he and Mary Anne stayed here for a few more days since they didn’t leave yet like the other guests did on Sunday. What really got me excited about this year’s convention was getting to meet Eric Stuart! Ever since I was a Pokemon, Slayers, and Yu-Gi-Oh fan I always wanted to meet him, even when I read an interview he did with Shonen Jump back in 2004 by what I remembered that I crossed my fingers that he would show up and my patience was granted that he was here for my newest favorite convention! I didn’t tell him this though but will be revealing it here, Eric if you’re reading, Brock was also my favorite character when I first got into Pokemon and even had the Japanese and American trading card game decks of Brock from the Gym Leader set. It was awesome that I got to meet him and not only that get to sit down for an interview with him, which you will get to see in a video of that and some of his performance from Saturday’s events. What was also great in the guests line up is that they got Dameon Clarke who has been in shows like Castle, NCIS, and if you guys loved the original FullMetal Alchemist series like I did, he was the original voice of Scar. This guy was also fun to interview and if you gone to his Borderlands 2 panel with John Swasey, it was hilarious! I did kind of surprised when we had to redo our interview, the video went missing somehow, he thought I did something to my hair when I wore wigs. I know should’ve taped that but hey, was very fun to give him an unexpected surprise. Besides the other guests returning, John Swasey and Chuck Huber also made another return to Orlando after so long! Chuck hasn’t come back since MegaCon 2010 and John did appear at KnightroKon this past year since a guest had to drop out back in June. It was great seeing them again even if Chuck was here only for Friday and Saturday but he still remembered the both of us. I did bring him Soul Eater Part 4 for him to sign since it has Dr. Stein and I did mention my “I’m Going to Dissect You Now” shirt I got a few years back that Aardvark made. I wish I could’ve worn it but there is always next time! Who knows, Omni might get him? I was happy to meet up with John again as well since I did have a few more things to get signed and it was surprising that he was in Brotherhood because he saw my Edward Elric plushie and he played Hoenheim in that series, so that was signed! Besides the old and the new, another new guest was added and that was Bennet the Sage from That Guy With the Glasses! Funny thing was that I was hoping that a convention here would get him since he reviews anime on his show, Anime Abandoned, and lord and behold! MythiCon made my wish, well my and Gondras’ wish come true! Not only I enjoyed Atop the Fourth Wall this year, but his Anime Abandoned Uncensored panel was not only fun to attend but…it was “WTF MAN!?” It did show something he didn’t cover on the show, I would say if you’re over the age of 18 and this is at your local convention and it was allowed (knowing Metro wouldn’t) I would say go to it if you are familiar with Bennet’s show, if not, watch it on That Guy With the Glasses and same with Linkara’s if you must. I recommend them. I still liked the crowd moments that Bennet had at the panels especially during the Borderlands panel. That may have to be placed into the “Bests and Worsts of 2014!”

Events and Panels: I know I should’ve saved the “Anime Abandoned Uncensored” panel for this section, at least I had something to talk about with Bennet. Anyways, I felt like I didn’t go to too many events and panels since we were hanging out in the vendors room and interviewing the guests, it seems that MythiCon improved in this part since the guest roster this year had more stuff to do. Unlike last year’s event there were less repeats of the “Meet [insert name here]” panels and less of them as well and with that it did bring more variety and kept the schedule flowing better. There were a few changes and mix ups with some of the timing and rooms, for example we thought Bennet’s panel on Saturday was going to be at 11 PM but it started at 10 and we were glad to be on time after dinner for it. It did say on the schedule it was at 11 when the schedule was made a month or two ago, I am guessing there was a mix up or something with how it was made or something got cancelled which it does happen. Another thing was that Eric’s performance was supposed to be in Special Events located next door to the Main Events room, since we were hearing him singing through the walls during the Abridged panel, it looked like it was a typo and it was in main events. I know it sounds confusing but hey it looks like most of the events went well even though Closing Ceremonies was late Sunday. We did enjoy the events that we went to and did have a nice discussion during the “Action Cartoons Now” panel and at the same time it felt a bit meh due to looking how action cartoon series have been changing and not a lot of shows from over seas aren’t getting dubbed as much to be shown here on Cartoon Network and did hear Hasbro did pull out of the Hub channel recently. We did catch this year’s “Atop the Fourth Wall LIVE” panel and instead of seeing the newest episode we saw the first episode of the newest season of Long Box of the Damned” which is the Halloweenish segment that Linkara does as a character known as Miorte (sorry if I butchered it!) You can catch the episode of this live edition when Linkara gets it up on his website. We did get some good tips when it comes to hosting things online during the “Life on the Internet” panel that he, Bennet, and Little Kuriboh did Sunday and got to see a bit of Little Kuriboh’s past when he talked about his introduction in making web comics. And also Eric Stuart’s performance was a great one to see since it promoted his new EP that will be released in December and we will be posting that video soon. I did almost get teary eyed during one of the songs and reach for Gondras’ hand. “”instert “aww” here!” The panels and events this year had a great changed to it and hoping next year will bring new guests to the table and probably LK, Linkara, and Bennet back or more That Guy With the Glasses people to this convention.

Needs for Improvement: Like all conventions, not all conventions are always perfect! The needs are:

  1. Vendors Room needs more anime dealers
  2. The distance between buildings need to be shrunk

Reason for the two reasons! With the vendors room, even though I went into somewhat detail above, it needs more anime dealers and I feel that Artists Alley was dominating it a bit too much. I do like getting handcrafted things but taking over the first half of the dealer room makes it harder for us to notice some of the anime vendors and they should be in the back or have a different room to let more anime dealers take the space up front. Not only that, there are tons of anime dealers all over the state of Florida and a good portion of them are willing to travel to Orlando to sell stuff! I still remembered Anime Pavilion coming here to MegaCon and AFO every year until 2010 I believe and they sold a lot of stuff to everyone that went through their displays of items, hell even in the past I shopped a lot from them and Anime Pagoda, which they’re local btw, in the past! It is also sad that there aren’t enough DVD sellers appearing at some of these events in Orlando as well, they mostly are in Tampa to sell anime or AFO to do that as well. I am hoping next year the vendors room gets more anime vendors since there were like four or five despite the good haul I will be doing next. And then the distance between the front and main building to the one in the back for the game room and other events, I felt like I was back at JACON 2005 when they were first having at the Sheraton International Resort, as in you had to go to the building in the very back of the hotel for everything else including guest signings. I did enjoy the walk all three days but with the rain wasn’t as great since Florida weather sucked for the most part. Not only that, not a lot of people made the trek to the game room since it was so far out. Which that needs an improvement, sorry for not making that important, the game room was slightly smaller than last year. I mean the games they stocked last year was a nice variety with Just Dance and fighting games all around it and you had a mini viewing area to sit and relax to enjoy anime before you get your turn, I would love that again next year since it felt like there was DDR and a few console stuff. Anyways, back to the distance, if there’s nothing else going on, I think the convention should be in the main building and use the second one for game room and other events and panels since that building has a pretty good size to it and many rooms to use and the size was pretty big. Hell, I would even place the dealer’s room in the old Special events room. With this kind of layout the distance would be easier and attendees would know that there is more to the convention a lot easier.

Verdict: CONVENTION ACCOMPLISHED! Why I think it’s accomplished? Well, I think getting press for this thing was a major accomplishment since I have been doing the press thing since last year and was able to have a nice time getting that one on one talk with some of the actors as well. It also made me happy to interview Eric Stuart as a huge accomplishment in my book as well. I still enjoyed “Atop the Fourth Wall” and how the Title Card artist did bring back the Christopher Walken game on top of it during set up, which I forgot to mention, and get to see the Naruto spoof’s new episode that Little Kuriboh had done. Many other accomplishments included getting a starter from Linkara, which he was trading all weekend with people who brought their copies of X and Y. And of course, was happy that Little Kuriboh and Mary Anne and Linkara recognized me with the Pokemon Ranger and Lucy cosplays. All in all, it was a great weekend and glad that we got to meet up with guests we met in the past and got to meet new ones!

What is next with conventions? We are on the fence with Holiday Matsuri because of the guest list right now. J Michael Tatum is coming back and Matthew Mercer is coming as a guest, but we are like we met Tatum and with Mercer is that he is going to be at Omni Expo 2015, which will be at the Rosen Center if anyone hasn’t gone to the Closing Ceremonies. And then George Lowe is making a convention appearance after a few years, it’s like I don’t know. There are rumors about a few guests but not sure if they are true, will be keeping an eye out. We are looking forward to Omni Expo 2015 and the major list of Attack On Titan cast members including the ADR Director making a return! So, keep a look out for my first convention spotlight since I will be working on press passes to get for next year. I am making sure Gondras is with me since he missed this year!

So, what’s next? My MythiCon haul and we will be trying to get the videos up soon! Stay tuned!

What’s In My Ipsy Bag: September 2014

Hello everyone and welcome back to Nerdy Shique Universe! Even though MythiCon passed this past weekend, I will have the review up in a few days, I did get my Ipsy bag the day I left for the weekend! I was glad to get this in the mail and was able to trade one of the items, give one away, and even used one during the weekend. Let’s see what I got and what I thought!

The Bag: This month’s theme is “Street Style!” This theme is based on all the fashion related events that go on in New York and Boston and many more that might be happening all over the states and this theme fits with it! The bag is a pleather bag with studs at the top. I wished the studs were all over or in a row around the entire bag than just one side, which I agree with one YouTuber who is also a subscriber about that, but at least it’s bigger than last month’s bag which I’m using right now. Way to go Ipsy!

Item 1: Kailyn Art Touch Lip Gloss in Basic Instinct! First item is a lip gloss by a company I never heard before and they are known as Kailyn and it’s their Art Touch Lip Gloss. A lot of people got this as a full size in two different colors and the one I got is Basic Instinct, which is a nude pink color by what I seen in videos. I tried it out earlier when I got home after the weekend and I found it pretty lightweight and not sticky! It went on pretty smoothly and it is also came in full size. This was one of the full size lip products that people received in the bag along with a lipstick this month depending on what your profile says when you took the quiz. I am glad they matched me with this item and now it’s in my make up bag if I need to reach for it for a day.

Item 2: Briogio Don’t Despair Hair Care Mask! This is an item I gave to my mom because I don’t really and it’s the hair mask from Briogio. It’s a hair mask that helps with dry and damaged hair and also chemically treated hair. I know my hair slightly gets dry and damaged time to time but I use products that help with that already and I only wash my hair once a week and wear dry shampoo for days when I don’t wash, so I don’t need this. I think this is best for my mom since she does chemically treat her hair more and I think it will help her out more than me. I know a lot of YouTubers got this in their bags this month or the CC Hair Cream which I thought I was getting when they shown me the sample items that I might have gotten in this month’s bag but didn’t! Looks like my mom’s going to like this and I can give her my discount code if it works out.

Item 3: Harvey Prince Hello Frgrance! I had this with me when I was at MythiCon since I was doing my Lucy costume and my Female Dr. Who costume as well and didn’t want to use any of the cologne samples I got from Ulta due to only have one crossplay with me. I was glad my Ipsy bag arrived in time because I was really excited to try out the Harvey Prince Hello! Perfume! This scent is AMAZING! It is sweet and earthy since it has a nice citrus kick with a bit of sugar with some floral notes. It has the best note ever! I was really happy since sweet and earthy scents are my fave scents of all! I am jealous that Boxy Charmers got the full size of this but with my traveling this month, I didn’t care and it helps with the size I got to carry it in my make up bag and reapply when need be. I hope I get more scents like this and try and get the actual size at some point, even as a roller ball!

Item 4: Pacifica Naturals Eye Pencil in Gunmetal! The next item is another eye pencil and it’s by Pacifica. I heard or remembered Pacifica as a drugstore brand years ago since I used to have a nail polish by them and sold it because it didn’t work out for me and now they are back and the pencil came to me. This was one of the hot items in this bag along with the nail polish in Red Red Wine and I wanted that at first but finding out that I got the pencil in the silvery grey, I’m actually happy about this and don’t mind since I love using eye pencils as an easier way of putting on eyeliner for me, especially along the water line. I did do a swatch to see how the lead was and it goes on smoothly. I think it goes on smooth as the Lord and Berry one but more softer in the feel of application. I did see some people complain about the size and didn’t want this due to how the size is but I did compare the size to one of my pencils and this is half the size as my blue Wet N Wild pencil and bigger than my ELF pencils from my eye shadow books. I don’t get why people should be complaining when they get a bigger pencil than last month’s even though that one fit the theme last month. Even though I did want the nail polish and didn’t get it but glad to try out another pencil! I did retake the quiz so hoping nail polish is one of the items next month again!

Item 5 Swapped: Be A Bombshell Finishing Powder for Hikari Lipstick in Cabronet! I did say I was swapping an item for another and it is the Be A Bombshell Finishing Powder for the Hikari Lipstick! The powder and the lipstick were two of the bigger items that were in this month’s items and I got the powder and after last month’s Paula’s Choice moisturizer I have to be a lot more careful with skin related items. If you guys don’t know, the Paula’s Choice moisturizer with the SPF caused redness around my nose and I was wondering why until I went to Ulta to spend my 20% off coupon that the lady talked about how some people are sensitive to SPF products and glad to know about that and I hate how my skin gets irritated by these items. I know SPF is important especially here in Florida where the sun is extreme on everyone but it’s not the best for everyone! So, I swapped my powder and will be shipping it to someone who sent me the Hikari lipstick which this company is a new and upcoming and glad that it is an Ipsy optiom. I did want the lipstick and thought I would receive it but got the Kailyn gloss instead and I think I did mark lipstick on the quiz but it does say that it won’t guarantee what I marked is what I will get each month and that is why swapping is important which a lot of people on the board doesn’t get. Anyways, this is a red wine color and it’s called Cabronet and I seen people swatch it and describe the color as a very vampy red. I don’t wear reds normally except for Red Velvet by Revlon from their Lip Butters but I do like to step out of my comfort zone from the pinks, purples, browns, and sometimes coral but hey! I am trying out a new company through a swap! See what you get when you swap is amazing! I can’t wait to wear this some days and possibly with cosplays in the future?

One Item I Wished For: I am going to add this since there were other items including and one of them is the NYX Hot Singles shadow since the main reason I joined Ipsy is that NYX products tend to get picked to be in bags some months and I always wanted to try them and now I am hooked onto their items, especially the butter glosses! I did watch videos where they did get the shadow and some posts said that they wanted it and didn’t get it and even willing to trade but all thanks to my visit a week ago to Ulta due to the catalog coupon (Ulta you will be the death to my wallet but you do save me money!) I was able to find them in the NYX section! I didn’t find any of the colors they gave out because people picked like vultures at these things but I did find two colors in Epic, which is a purple color, and Electric Shock and I am so glad to get these and I do like how well they glide on, kind of like the baked shadows. I hope to find more if they ever stock up. If you guys didn’t get any in your Ipsy bag, Ulta does carry these shadows! If you didn’t find a color you wanted, there is always their website or swapping with Ipsters.

So, that is my Ipsy bag for September. It was a pretty good bag and this is my second bag within my subscription and impressed by it again. I know I will be using the lipstick I swapped for, the lip gloss, the eye liner most definitely and the perfume! I am also glad to give the hair mask to my mom to help her curls out. I can’t wait for October’s bag and hoping it is a Halloween themed one as well. Let’s see what happens!

What’s next? My coverage of MythiCon Year 2! Stay tuned everyone!

Music Review: U2’s “Songs of Innocence”

Hello everyone and welcome back to Nerdy Shique Universe! I am still waiting on my September Ipsy bag since it just got shipped Friday. In the meantime I have a music review! I haven’t done one since the last concert I went to at the beginning of 2013 I think when Traverser was at the Haven. I haven’t seen them since last spring either. I’m not here to talk about them I’m here to talk about the new U2 album!

If you guys didn’t know, Irish band U2 has released a new album known as “Songs of Innocence” and this is the first album they’ve done in a few years and it’s awesome to have them return. How did I get my paws on this? Well, they put their album on ITunes for free and my phone purchased it without me even knowing. When I tried downloading after hearing the commercial for it, I saw the “Purchased” button right next to it and it was right there with all the artists I have in my Artists directory. I listened to it and this is what I thought.

This album was pretty good and it kind of have their more mellow and sweet side return for a good portion of the album until you hit the song “California,” that is where you find their “Vertigo” sound and I think with the mellow sound the first half going into the harder sound and then ending with mellow has a nice balance to the album. If I were to pick a song, I would probably pick the first track, “Niracles” because I think it is a nice start since it is the first track and it is a very cute song that I want to play in a coffee shop somewhere. Hell, I would even have this album playing while writing my fan fics or my book that I am still working on at the moment. I did mention the song, “California” since I used that as an example towards their harder sound, I don’t like how it starts though. It does mention San Diego when it starts but it feels a bit creepy in my opinion but when the song starts it gets better when the song goes on.

Is It Worht It? To U2 fans it may be worth it but to not-so-much ones it may be worth a try out and it would be great to give it to someone who is a fan of the band. I may not be a big fan of the band like Gondras is but I do like the album and it was worth getting it for free. If you weren’t so lucky in getting your copy if you have an Android, you can get it when it comes out unless it’s not already out.

My rating: 3.5 stars out of 5!

Why? Even though the album sounds good but “California” kind of creeps me out with the beginning and I do like the rest of the album for its mellow sound. I did find the last track kind of weak or was it second to last one but still this was a pretty good album.

That is it for this short review of this album, so hoping my Ipsy bag does come in the mail soon and of course MythiCon 2014 is already coming up this weekend! So stay tuned for the next couple of posts!

Beauty Review: Urban Decay Naked Basics and Ulta Matte Prime

Hello everyone and welcome back to Nerdy Shique Universe! I missed doing a post on here since my Favorites post for July and August and the Forgot to Mentions along with the post for new people to Ipsy. If you are new to Ipsy or want to subscribe to Ipsy, I suggest read that post known as “To the Ipsy Noobs!” or was it “For the Ipsy Noobs,” forgot the title for a moment. Anyways! This post is a review post on two products I started using recently and they are the Urban Decay Naked Basics Pallet and the Ulta Matte Prime. Let’s get started!

Naked Basics Pallet by Urban Decay: I know what most of you are thinking is that I am behind on this product and I am. I haven’t gotten any Urban Decay products due to high price on their Naked pallets and I wasn’t sure if I would like the shadows but when I found out there was a cheaper way of getting into Urban Decay products and that is by picking up the Naked Basics pallet, which yes, I brokedown and got it during my birthday month and did have points to spend, which I am happy that I could use that. It sucks that Ulta can’t allow coupons to be used on this line, even though the guy said it depends on what can it be used on. Anyways! This little pallet is a pallet that contains six shades that are matte and they are full size according to what Ulta said on their site and apparently they changed the packaging to match the newer Basics pallet that got released, the Naked 2 Basics pallet which I watched Grav3yard Girl review, which the one I have is a regular clutch look with the words raised but now it is more suede with a gold embossing. I can see why it’s $29 now. The shades in this pallet are Venus, which is an off white and it’s the first shade in the pallet and then you go to Foxy, which is a more of a bisque color. Then you have Walk of Shame, which is a very light nude color which kind of comes off a bit bronzy by what my dad saw when he guided me through the colors due to how I can’t see them, which is a nice crease color, of course next is Naked 2 which is a taupe color which in my pallet is bit of a grey. I think it is a greyish taupe if you get this pallet and I think it’s also in the Naked 2 Pallet and that gives a nice smoke to the crease. Then Faint is next which is a dusty brown and finally Crave which is supposed to be a black or a very deep brown but it is more black.

What do I think!? I love the pallet! I never gotten any shadows from Urban Decay until now and the sites don’t lie when it says that the application is very smooth and they are very smooth, even when I dip the brush into the pallet it felt like my brush was touching velvet rather than rough sand! It was also easy to put on and don’t need to put a lot since these shadows are very pigmented as well. I used all six, which Monday I had Foxy, Naked 2, and Crave to do a smoky eye, then today had Faint, Walk of Shame, and Fame to go with a nice outfit I was wearing to a luncheon that Lighthouse Central Florida held and thought a nice nude eye would be perfect. Now I can see why so many people rave about this pallet and one good thing is that it’s so compact and easy to carry and travel with if you need a on-the-run nude or smoky eye.

Is it worth it? I wish they kept it at the $28 even if they changed the packaging. I know Urban Decay wants to be hip in their looks but raising the price by a dollar is not right in my opinion when I knew in the past it was $28. I would say if you’re an Ulta member, you should use the points on this product since you can’t really use coupons on Urban Decay products depending what it’s excluded. Still, I can see why it’s worth getting is how the colors are pigmented and very smooth to put on the lids. I may have to pick up the second one since of course don’t want to go high end crazy and this is a good way to go and also gives newbies in Urban Decay a first taste of what the products are like if they want to dip their toe into the water when it comes to the company. I may have to try this with the Perversion mascara that I got with my Ipsy bag last month to see how well it looks.

Ulta Matte Prime: And now onto the other product! Now speaking of Ulta, now it’s time for one of their cosmetic line items! I never used primer on my face until I tried this because of my sensitive skin always wants to be a brat, especially when I used the Paula’s Choice moisturizer with SPF from last month’s Ipsy as a base, which was a bad idea! Yeah, around my nose it burned after application and left redness in the crevasses where the nostrils and cheek meets. I had to leave my skin alone with skin care items. Sorry Paula’s Choice you suck! So, I remembered that my little make up bag I got when I got that new make up set when it came out had a tube of Ulta’s Matte Primer and decided to try it out and crossed my fingers that my skin would hate it! Guess what? It didn’t! Why? It has ingredients that my skin can stand! I took a look at the product and found out that it has salisilic acid and that is best for sensitive skin which my Clean and Clear toner and facial wash contains and my Stridex acne wipes contain as well. All thanks to this item my skin is getting better little at a time and don’t feel like my make up bothers me as much with this underneath.

Is it worth it? Yes if you’re willing to get it for the price, which is $18! It is not bad considering that it has ingredients that doesn’t bother my skin and I have to go a bit high end for certain products that don’t bother my skin like my Celestial moisturizer as an example. Still, this stuff works and it is worth it, especially with coupons for online and in store when you get this. I wish the size was a bit bigger but since I don’t go out a lot now, it keeps me pretty well and I don’t have to use a lot to put on my face. Plus, when putting on all my other face make up, it doesn’t feel like it sticks in certain places as in very smooth application with the beauty blender and brushes. I would say for anyone with sensitive skin, get this item! I know there are pricier primers and of course we want to spend less at times and not all primers or moisturizers have ingredients that work well for us.

Well, that is it for this review! What is next for Nerdy Shique Universe!? Well, I am waiting on my September Ipsy bag, I saw what I’m getting, I’m going to be swapping an item but love the rest! You have to wait until I get the bag! I am supposed to be getting my tracking e-mail sometime soon and I seen videos of people getting their’s and I can’t wait! And of course since it’s September finally, you know what that means! MYTHICON IS AROUND THE CORNER! So stay tuned til next time!

For the Ipsy Noobs!

Hello everyone and welcome back to Nerdy Shique Universe! September has just started and you know what that means! Another Ipsy bag is about to be constructed for us Ipsy subscribers!

As you know I have been posting, well posted what I got in my August bag and my impressions since it was my first bag ever since I got off the waiting list at the end of July. I have been noticing in videos and on the comment boards on the site that a lot of people didn’t like it, even one subscriber tossed their items before using them, one person cancelled due to waiting, etc. Plus, I also notice on the boards how people have been not skipping the wait when we were trying to help. So, that is why I’m going to help you guys that are reading and on the wait or not for Ipsy and please don’t get offended when I mention anything or suggest because as an Ipster I care!

  • Please READ the FAQs! Like many subscription services and other websites, hell even Ulta gets me reading on their page since I was wondering about birthday perks last month, it is always important to read the FAQ page to know what you’re in for! Ipsy has a lot of subscribers subscribing almost every day and it is important to know what you’re getting into before you give them your money each month and of course, I want to say this is that you should read it more than once! First time for the first glance and knowing what it is and the next time in case you have questions about when your bag arrives, how to earn points, etc. Also, the FAQ page can help you get off the wait list a lot faster as well! So, before you want to post a question that we have been hearing on the board, please please PLEASE be kind and read the FAQ page. We read everything everyday!
  • Products Fit Themes! One thing that kind of made me irk throughout video viewings and comments is that people complained about the sizes of the products and the bag itself! I know that Ipsy does do deluxe and full size products but last month’s theme dealt with Back to School since most states are back in the classroom and they wanted to make the bag cute and the products give off a travel friendly size and I like that idea! It would’ve been handy during the summer since I was in Tampa during July, but with the August bag it made more sense with the theme since it’s not easy carrying an entire pallet of make up in your bag! I also seen how people talked about the eye shadow being nude as well, I can see why since a lot of teens and adults do like wearing more nude stuff at work and school! I can see where they were coming from, especially with the blush size and the lip balms. So, that is my next point, the products fit with the theme and I like the idea since it gives you an idea of what kinds of products you may get especially with the Glam Room opens up to view what you’re getting. Also a great thing is that they give you sneak peeks of the products you’re getting to go with that theme on top of it, which brings me to my next point!
  • Products Vary In Everyone’s Bag! I was going to put two points together but it’s easier to separate the two for explanation purposes! Anyways! I know that Ipsy gives sneak peeks of a lot of items that will be placed in bags but not everyone gets the same products since every bag contains 4-6 products every month! I know we all want all the products but Ipsy chooses them based on your quiz and reviews you made on the products since they provide that space to see if you want similar products in future bags. On top of that, not everyone gets the same products in every bag. Good example! Eleventh Gorgeous (Love you guys!) get different products in their bags each month! I even saw other videos that people got the primer in their bags or the dry shampoo or the blush sample, etc. So not always the same bag and if it was the same then it will be boring for everyone! I did notice a comment that someone wished subscribers should choose their products, I disagree a bit because having free reign on your subscription can be chaotic and the only way of telling Ipsy what you want is through reviews, Facebook posts since they read there, and of course, your quiz since you can retake it but it takes a while for them to read due to the amount of subscriptions they have to read. A question is what if you don’t like something?
  • YOU CAN SWAP ITEMS! Why the all caps? I notice way too many videos and posts saying that “We don’t like our items we received!” Like many trading card players, you can trade your items on the Ipsy website in the forum for other items that came in the bags or other items that aren’t in Ipsy since I saw someone post Sally Hansen items by what I saw. Swapping the items can let you get something you wanted but didn’t get in the bag with someone else who has the same problem. Like above, items vary and not everyone will be satisfied with everything. If I knew someone wanted to swap for the dry shampoo, my face would’ve been saved from the Paula’s Choice moisturizer, just saying. Anyways, it also keeps people from wasting products that they don’t want. Trust me, seeing people that hate their products and tossing them without a swap sucks! Especially when it comes to high end products that are pretty awesome since you can try Urban Decay and want to buy it later or if you wanted the eyeliner pencil and got the mascara, you can swap it with a person who has it. Swapping is good guys! Consider it in the future!
  • You can get off the wait list quicker! I had to mention this since so many people subscribe and are on the wait list for months and don’t want to be on there much. I was on the wait list in July since I joined in May or June, so had to wait but then I saw the get off the list quickly e-mail and followed the steps and I’m off! I did mention the FAQ page does mention how to get off a lot faster and should read them and doing the directions by subscribing to the Facebook page, Twitter page, and their YouTube, it will get you on the subscription list. If you don’t have any of those accounts and don’t want it in the first place? Well, I would say sign up since I did it for Twitter despite I didn’t want to join, but it feels good to be a subscriber guys! Not gonna lie! I say get over it and sign up if you want a bag of beauty items a month. It’s worth the hassle.
  • You don’t get the bag the same month you sign up! So many people post this question, “When will I get the Ipsy bag if I am off the wait list or just signed up and wasn’t on the wait list?” Guys, you don’t get the first Ipsy bag the same month you signed up or got off the list after the first week, as in if you got off the list before the first of the coming month then you get the next month’s bag! Example, when I got off the list, it was too late for me to get the July bag but was happy to find out I was getting the August one. Yeah, it sucks that you didn’t get the previous one but look at it this way, new month means new items and you get to try awesome items and swap for anything. And to get a further explanation on the not getting the same month, this is like a magazine subscription so once the items are prepped and sent out, it’s sent to the people who are signed up for that months bag.
  • Contact Ipsy Care if it’s late or something’s missing! A lot of people come onto the board and say they haven’t gotten their bag yet. Like what the first tip said, FAQs are their friends and it will give you how to contact Ipsy in case something goes wrong or your bag’s late. We live in the age of e-mail, so use it! Once Ipsy contacts you, they will send replacements for your missing and broken items. And head’s up, if you run into the late or broken items problem, Ipsy DOESN’T read any of the comments on the boards when you post about this, you must contact Ipsy directly! Even other ipsters have to tell so many noobs about that!
  • Don’t Get Offended When We’re Trying to Help! I found it a bit stupid that someone thought that people were being rude when we were helping them. Okay guys, here’s the thing, we’re not being rude, we are helping you so your experience with receiving these bags is a good one! As inb, people who have been subscribers for years know what’s it like to be a subscriber and how not everything is perfect and want to help you out if you’re on the waiting list and trying to point you in the right direction. So, please don’t take offense when we are doing that. Knowing a lot of people who have Birchbox, Boxy Charm, Fortune Cookie Soap Box, and many other subscriptions go through the same problems and a lot of other subscribers tell them the same thing when it comes to helping them. So understand that we’re helping not offending!
  • Points Will Take time to add up! Reason why I would say this is that it’s hard to rack up points with this subscription and knowing me it will take forever to meet a prize point but hey, think of it this way, it shows how patient you are! Also, this, like many beauty gurus, let you have a chance of reviewing products each month. Yeah, it is only ten points but once you get friends in on it through your referral link if they click on it, you get a lot more!

Well, that’s it for this post! If you have any more questions, you may comment here or contact Ipsy Care since they are there for you when need be. Plus, as said before, if you don’t like anything, just swap and don’t waste your products, understand these are samples and not the real thing!

What is next? So waiting on September’s bag and waiting for MythiCon to arrive! Til next time!
