Ipsy Time: November 2014 + Ipsy Me Offer!

Hello Shiquers and welcome back to Nerdy Shique Universe! Guess what time is it? It’s Ipsy time! So, I am back from Daytona and this is my bag for November! I did get it through the mail last weekend but since I was not at home and on the coast couldn’t do the review and see what’s in it! I am glad to be home and got it! Let’s see what I got!

Theme: Girl Meets Glitter! This month’s theme is “Girl Meets Glitter!” I feel as though this month’s theme should’ve been next month’s theme because that is when glitter tends to come in play with the holidays but hey, not bad of a theme. I would have a feeling that the December theme would have a nice theme to it due to Christmas, Kwanzaa, and Channakah.

The Bag! The bag is how a lot of video bloggers talked about in how it is plastic with the glitter inside the plastic, which is really nice and you don’t have it flying all over! Kind of like when I went to Spirit for my first time one Halloween time. Apparently Ipsy collaborated with Forever 21 to make this bag and I like it! I even like how soft the bag is ionthe inside! Lovin’ it!

IT Cosmetics Bye Bye Under Eye! Item number 1 is something I gave to my mom and that is the IT Cosmetics Bye Bye Under Eye concealer! I do have bags but it is mostly anti-aging items and don’t tend to use them. I did hear IT cosmetics is a really good brand and that their concealer is also pretty good! A full size of this at Ulta retails $24 but knowing that my mom may like it she may get the full size!

Marc Anthony Oil of Morrocco Argon Oil Hairspray! Man! That was a mouthful! Anyways, this something I was happy about and that’s the Marc Anthony Argon oil hairspray! I started using the Suave Professionals Morroccon infused shampoo and conditioner and loved that stuff a lot and I did hear a lot of Ipsters received this in their bag! I am glad that I did too and it gives me a way of trying out hairsprays that won’t hurt my hair and it is with argon oil and carotene on top of it! The size is pretty nice to be in the bag. I can’t wait to use this and also take it back with me to Daytona. I know this hairspray is like $8, close to the price of an Aveeno dry shampoo and plus I am an Ulta and Walgreens, which I heard they sold this, member. I will see how this works. And I believe this is also made by the singer!

Star Lux Gem Eye Pencil in Ultra Olive! Finally I get to try Star Lux! I never got the lip gloss last month by them and I did try trading for the Obsidian pencil from someone but somehow they said we weren’t a match. Ticked off by that thank you! I am so glad I get to try a product by them and it is the gem pencil in Ultra Olive! I noticed a lot of Ipsters got this one and not the purple one. I wouldn’t mind for the purple but this one would look nice with my Esmeralda eye shadow I traded for last month. They weren’t kidding when the packaging is hard to open like the envelope that the bag came in! Ipsy, did you send us that thing in that envelope because of the bulk of the items this time around!? It is pretty smooth when you do apply! Okay, I hope they send me more Star Lux items because Mari Blue Cat is definitely curious!

CRX Anti Aging Lotion! Okay, I got something by a company I never heard of and they are known as CRX and looking at the Ipsy page for them looks like they use natural ingredients! If you guys got any of the two items you would either get the expoliant for the body and face or the birch sap lotion which is also for the body and face! I got the lotion which I wanted it to be that since I can use it on my knees and hands because of how I read braille and it does cause my hands to get dry and I do have ashy knees. I hope this stuff works, I do like the body butter, which I have not used since I got it, it’s in my room in Daytona so I can use this until I get back.

J Cat Beauty Wonder Lip Paint in Mad Splatter! I never heard of Jay Cat until Eleventh Gorgeous got products by them in Ipsy and it’s good to be a part of Ipsy because I get to finally try them out! I got the color in Mad Splatter which is a pretty dark color according to people but hey at least I like the vampy lip! I do like how the packaging is a paint tube because Hot Topic did package their War Paint lip stuff that way along with some glitter gels they had. I can’t wait to wear this to try it out.

Overall: This month’s bag was pretty good! I know I would probably use the concealer but I thought my mom would use it more than I would and it was worth getting it so she can try something new. She did get some of my Ulta samples last time. I also did give her the hair mask from the September bag, I hope she used that thing. I was really happy overall! I mean I got the hair spray which let’s me try out something good, the eye pencil from Star Lux which I was curious in that company, the Jay Cat lip paint, which I never tried and I heard they are similar to OCC Lip Tars, which I never tried, and the Birch Sap lotion by CRX which I did put on my hands and knees and it has a nice cooling effect! This is an awesome thing!

Bonus: Ipsy Me Offer of the Ofra eye shadow pallet! I did end up getting something in the Ipsy Me page and that is an eye shadow pallet by Ofra! I never heard of Ofra cosmetics until Ipsy had an offer on their eye shadow pallet, well one of them and it includes twenty shades. It did say in the offer that they are also cream shadows and to me they feel more powdery than creamy. The brand is pretty much a skin care and beauty brand which is pretty high end! This pallet would normally cost $79 and Ipsy offered it for $28 and I was glad to get it! This is a nice magnetic pallet with a mirror and it is pretty nice. I never thought I would get something high end again outside of an Ipsy bag and thought it would be worth it after getting it with free shipping! I wanted to do a video on this but since my trip from Daytona tired me out, I’d rather write a little bit about it. And also for reading this, you guys get a code for 40% off your entire purchase on ofracosmetics.com and the code is ipsyme40 and just enter it at Check Out! The offer ends on December 8th by the way! Forgot to mention, the shadows can be placed in another magnetic pallet if you want since you can pop these out!

Well, that is it! This month’s bag was a good one and I hope next month’s bag comes as good as this one! And of course, if you haven’t joined Ipsy! You can go to their website and it only costs $10 a month and you get items from a lot of high end, online, and drugstore companies! Also, youget the Ipsy Me offer alerts in e-mails because you can’t get offers like these anywhere!

What is next!? My first spotlight on Omni Expo 2015! And of course, my faves for November and December next month, and wrap up 2014 with my Bests and Worsts of the year! Stay tuned for all that!

Big Hero Six Review

Hello everyone and welcome back to Nerdy Shique Universe! Time for another review and it deals with a movie this time! So, last night I went to see Big Hero Six with Gondras since he visited me and missed me for a while and since there haven’t been any movie trips lately, we decided to go and catch the latest Disney movie and it was done by the creators of Wreck It Ralph and Frozen but this movie didn’t feel like that. What do I mean? I kind of felt like it was mostly made by the Wreck It Ralph guys more because of how it is not a musical, which is pretty cool and it was based on a set of Marvel comics and Disney did have the rights to do it with them buying Marvel.

Even though unlike the other Marvel movies that we seen this year, Winter Soldier and Guardians of the Galaxy, Big Hero Six was animated and it fits because of what they had to work with the storyline and it was cheaper to do it that way unlike using the major special effects and getting a lot of big named actors involved, it felt more simplified with the animation and there was more done to the movie that way. I can also see why due to how they had robots in this one and I can see how they would be easier to animate unlike doing it in live action with the budget they had.  Speaking of story….

Story: The movie takes place in San Francisokyo which is pretty much if you take San Francisco in California and fused it with Tokyo in Japan. When Gondras read the name to me on the screen it was weird to hear it and I can see where it got fused a little. Anyways, you meet a kid named Hiro, who is a fourteen year old genious who graduated from high school early and at first was a robot fighter and then his brother helps him get into the same college that he went to through a showcase. He creates mini robots and was offered a deal by a big tech company to sell his robots and turn them down due to a college professor telling him not to. Then he loses his brother when the exhibition hall goes down in flame and was left his brother’s robot, Baymax, who is a medical robot. After finding out what happened with his robot project at a warehouse, Hiro decides to find the one who is mass producing the robots before the culprit uses them for bad for a revenge plot.

What I think? I felt as though that there were things left out in the story, as in why did the professor tell him not to sell to the company and how did the culprit get his hands on Hiro’s technology to build his own mini robots for the plot? It did answer the reasons why the culprit did it but at the same time it didn’t give the full circle. I hope Disney does an extended version of this movie because like most Marvel related things a story has to come to a full-circle and it would help polish some of the missing points. All-in-all it was a very good movie! I did like how one of the characters’ dads got modeled after Stan Lee and how nerds from the brother’s class got together with Hiro to take down the bad guy! It was very clever, especially when it came from a comic a lot of people didn’t know about like Guardians.

Sequel? I hope there is a sequel for this project because it did remind me of the elements that made Wreck It Ralph as good as it was and if they do make a sequel it can be improved upon and add more polished elements to it. I hope this gets to continue since it is one of those Marvel projects that got a Disney twist to it!

Rating:4 Out of 5 Paw Prints!

Well, that is it for this review! Next up on Nerdy Shique Universe will be Ipsy Time! I did order an Ipsy Me offer, it has to wait until I get home for Thanksgiving break for it. Stay tuned!

Doctor Who Season 8 Review

Hello everyone and welcome back to Nerdy Shique Universe! So, the season finale of Doctor Who season 8 has ended and like most people I enjoyed it to the end! Well, even if I had to get ITunes cards to watch the last few episodes since Daytona Beach doesn’t get BBC America depending on the box you get. At least I did get to watch “Death in Heaven!” I bet you’re wondering, “Why didn’t review the episodes like everyone?” Well, Shiquers, I’m not like most reviewers when it comes to TV, I’d rather wait until the end of the season or short series to finish before reviewing. For instance, won’t do Grace Point until that ends if Hulu keeps updating episodes! Anyways, what did I think about the season? Keep reading!

The Doctor: First, I would like to start with the Doctor and who plays him! If you seen the 50th Year Anniversary episodes you know Matt Smith’s Doctor changed into a new one for this season and he’s being played by Peter Capaldi and known as the 12th this season! Like Sylvester McCoy as the 7th, Capaldi was also Scottish born and man it sounded good! I do like his personality in this one because the character this time around takes more of a philosophical view and he does have a few comedic bits to him, especially when he argues with Clara and of course, Danny Pink! I did like the first episode right after his regeneration into Capaldi that he does get the pass outs from finding out who he is now and that he has a fear biting him rather than having the bravery all at once in the beginning like most of the other doctors. It did reveal a little back story in “Listen” how a younger version of Capaldi’s doctor was afraid of going into the academy back on Galafray and then looks deeper into who he is, especially during “Death in Heaven” as being seen as an idiot through the entire journey! Forgot to mention, spoilers! I am hoping they do more philosophical stuff with this version because it shows that he not only can be dark, serious, and funny in the mix!

Doctor and Companion: The start of this season dealt with using Clara from the Matt Smith run as his companion with Capaldi. Even though Clara did start liking Matt Smith before the regeneration but it shows how she moves on and helps Capaldi. Yeah, she may be a bit crued at some points but her cattiness with the Doctor’s smart remarks balance each other out, especially with how she started dating Danny Pink. I did like how she acted in “Robot in Sherwood” the most because it shows how she fan girls over storybook characters and then goes serious in all the same when the Sheriff of Nottingham gets her! She does mature and get more serious as the season goes on, even with her job as a school teacher and trying to help with the Doctor on his journey. Even though there may be a change who knows when, but Clara has been my favorite thus far! Next to Sarah Jane by the way!

Danny Pink as Love Interest: In this season it introduces Clara’s new love interest by the name of Danny Pink. I felt that this character was out of left field and that his personality wasn’t developed enough nor his backstory until “Listen” revealed him to be a soldier in the British Military. It felt as though his run as that interest was a bit cut off short and not as developed as Clara and the Doctor were in the episodes preceding “Dark Water” and “Death in Heaven.” I think in past seasons with any love interests that the companions have for someone or the Doctor, it seems better written in my opinion. Hoping with the next season the love interest gets brought in better since Danny was pretty much out of the loop despite Clara telling him what was going on and she meant to do that but then death takes him for the ride! I do have to say is that he did go out like a badass in “Death in Heaven” though. Too bad he wasn’t written better instead of a way out of left field thing.

The Master as a Woman: I had to mention Missy or the Master that was brought back to this series at some point! If you guys seen the season from “Deep Breath” and remembered how people were sent to this strange woman in the afterlife, she referred to herself as “Missy.” At first Gondras thought it was a different character from the past that was also female but it wasn’t since it was revealed that she was the Master! My reaction was probably like everyone’s “Holy sh*t!” over and over! Reason being is that you weren’t expecting that at first since she didn’t tell you much until the first part of the season finale! I do love the way she plays the Master since he is supposed to be sinister and the actress who played Missy made it a very good job! She was sinister, she acted like a sadistic grandma on top of that, kind of like Mother Winter from Cold Days a little until she did the Mary Poppins entrance at one point. I have to say is well done! I am hoping they make the Master a woman again later on, I believe this was well done along with Richard Delgado’s one from the past doctor seasons! I didn’t see the one from Tennet’s run, I will see how that went.

The Season In General: This season shown a more darker and philosophical side to the series itself! I know I mention philosophical with capaldi’s character but the series did take a look more into who the Doctor exactly? I liked that part the most! I did notice at some parts that it did start off slow but at the same time BBC did film the entire season at once and started anew a little after the anniversary last year. I can see where they took that year and they did put some thought in the episodes, especially with “Time Heist” which is an original story episode! They did bring in old foes such as the Dalics and Cyber Men to show the old villains are still around in limbo but it did call back to the 3rd Doctor season with the bringing back UNIT and Cyber Men respectively! I did find it interesting that the 3rd Doctor was the one that got Capaldi into the series and he was pretty much in similar story bits to Trouton. To me, this season did start off a tiny bit weak and understand why and yet it did end strong!

Favorite Episode: I would have to say “Death in Heaven” and “Robot of Sherwood” were my favorite episodes of all! I did like “Time Heist” since it did take the whole tell the actions before the rising action bit but these two really caught my eye because “Robot of Sherwood” shown how catty Capaldi’s doctor can be and how he balanced with the actor who played Robin Hood. It may not be Carrie Elwes’ Robin from Men In Tights, it might as well and I do love the quote, “I’m the Doctor and this is my spoon!” and proceeds to fight with a spoon! While “Death in Heaven” was great with the call back and of course brought sad endings and give a nice end to the season altogether! And did the Doctor give UNIT the salute? I would say watch the episode! What also what was great is a nice little end of episode preview of the Christmas Special that brought on Shawn of the Dead flashbacks and if you seen it, you will know why! I am so glad I will be home for Christmas and hoping the TV doesn’t get hogged since this will be a great special by the looks of things!

Overall Thoughts: This season did start off weak and it did have an original episode versus the using other things for it. Yes they brought the Dahlics and Cyber Men back, it did feel like the “Time Heist” original story thing should be done more, even wwhen Capaldi returns for another season! I did like how it ended on a very strong note with the great amount of drama in between and it did give me good laughs since it did involve the class that Danny and Clara teach at their school by having them be a part of some of the adventure! Even with “Kill the Moon,” it did bring a nice chuckle when Capaldi kept talking about he didn’t want to have a kid running around despite “In the Forest of the Night” shown how he was able to take care of a kid despite his early runnings with them! Still, need to keep original story related stuff! Let’s see what Season 9 holds for everyone!

Rating: 4.5 out of 5 Paw Prints!

Well, that’s my review! Next will be another review and it’s on a recent movie! Stay tuned!

Best Ulta Buys!

Hello everyone and welcome back to Nerdy Shique Universe! Sorry about taking a long while to do a post! I did say I was going to be in Daytona and I still am and will be here for a few more weeks but I do have something for you guys and that is some things I got from Ulta.com! What sucks is that there is no Ulta here in Daytona Beach but there is a few make up counters that exist in the department stores and of course drugstores, Bath and Body Works, Target, and so many more stores but no Ulta. I figured with the mall they would have one in there since they renovated parts of it the last time I was here but nope! At least I have the site and was able to get two deals and did have to get refunded and glad my parents dropped them off while visiting me today. What are they?

Urban Decay: Smoked Pallet! First item is the Urban Decay Smoked pallet! I know I don’t go for higher end items but this was a special and it was $20 off and I think it ended when it was a one day or something, don’t know but when I got the e-mail I decided to pick it up since Urban Decay is a higher end brand and I do like the Naked Basics 1 and the Perversion mascara sample from Ipsy and decided why not? What sucked was that on the day of the sale I noticed something weird and that there was a glitch on the site, if anyone else had it happen to you when you ordered, you weren’t the only one because I thought I had the order right as in it charged me the $29.99 when it was originally $49.99 and gave me the total of the $36 after tax and when I saw the receipts and order confirmation and it said that I sent $58 instead and knew that it wasn’t right and called them. I did get the refund for it next day and glad I did since I know that the sale was supposed to be what the e-mail stated. I believe Ulta noticed the glitch when I called, so anyone had the same problem and went through the sale and noticed the total is wrong, I would say call them back since the sale was two weeks ago I think. At least it’s fixed!

Contents: This pallet is a nice little zipper binder thing and very compact and it contained a primer potion, which I hear pretty good reviews about the eye shadow primers that Urban Decay makes and glad that it came with this. I think the bigger pallets have this little tube and the Basics don’t. Which I kind of wish they did, especially with brushes since the boxes come with slots that a brush could fit but you can buy those separately when I looked around on the site. Back to the contents! The pallet has a pretty big mirror and then you have ten shadows in mattes and jewel tones like purple, blue, and bronze. I like the idea of doing this because of how it can be creative with whatever shade that comes in this thing. I do notice that it is almost similar to my three Dream Catcher Pallets by NYX except blue doesn’t come in them by what I remembered since Golden Horizons has the purple and a least one or two bronze colors and then bronze in Dusk to Dawn. I think I will be loving this pallet since I love the Naked Basics pallet and the Dream Catcher pallets! It also comes with a full size 24/7 Glide On pencil in Perversion which makes it pretty awesome in my book but what sucks is that there is no brush! I understand that UD likes to make it professional and sleek but it would be nice that it came with a brush like the Naked pallets! I think the manual they do include is a nice bonus to help you guys out.

Is it worth it? For the $20 off, yes because it looks like it might be going bye bye since it’s discounted! I did get the information from their website because Ulta didn’t have it and I guess it was a hot buy due to the drop! I am glad I bought this and since I love my Dream Catchers a lot, I will like this one and if you’re interested, good thing about UD is that they do have an option on alerting you when they re-stock, not sure if they will, I would say hunt for it on EBay, it might be pricey with a few sellers but try there and maybe Amazon might have it!

Ulta Cosmetics Cheek Color in Sweet Cheeks! Next was a part of a thing that I tried using my points and yet got free shipping during the $25 spending for free shipping which is happening again and it’s worth doing that and on top of that got a hundred free points to spend until yesterday. I did try using them but had to contact customer service and couldn’t find where to enter my points and did get that $6 refund and had my points taken that way. At least I used them before the free points went bye bye and I would say if they ever do this again take advantage of that because if you have a hundred or two, I would say use them! Back to the blush! I like the Ulta blushes since they are sensitive skin friendly like their primer and these are known as the cheek colors! I skipped on it because I remembered I tried a cheek stain by them through one of their little make up bag specials and loved it! I tried finding them and I guess they changed the packaging or something and now they are more compact and more colors are available! I only bought one despite the buy two get two free and didn’t want to spend a whole lot while at check out, at least I decided to get one to see if they are still the same formulation as the stain and the one I got is called Sweet Cheeks and it’s a light pink with some white pearl to it! I thought this was interesting and it caught my cursor when I heard the color and description and it did help me in getting that free shipping. Now the cheek colors are two bucks less and kind of kicking myself, I might go back and get more when I visit during Thanksgiving! I do like the packaging and my blush brush will be fitting nicely in this thing! Get this if you haven’t tried any of their stuff.

Ulta Beuaty Treasures Make Up Set! During the free points thing I was sent an e-mail about one of the newer sets that Ulta had made and you know how I love Ulta’s make up sets and even brought both of my 66 set and my 55 set I got during the summer and the one that came out was the Glam Girl set, which I think that was the name or was it the Glam to Go….actually it’s the Glam and Go Blockbuster! I didn’t like most of the stuff for some reason and it included the usual shadows, two blushes, highlighters, and more but it didn’t scream out buy like the other two did. I may get this at a different point when the price drops but this one, which is the Beauty Treasures set, was more appealing and I will tell you why!

Contents: This thing came in a nice little caboodle, like my pink one and it is really cute! I like how they upgraded to this version of the set and it’s easier to carry and close! You can get it in pink or neutral and I chose pink! This set includes 40 eye shadows, 3 brow powders, 2 lipsticks, a bronzer, one eye shadow quad, 6 gel liners, 2 dual liners, a powder, 3 glitter top coats, 2 of the shiny lip glosses, 2 primers for the shadows, and a highlighter and that comes to 70 items in the entire set! The other set was 77 and it would cost me the same but this one had pretty awesome items for the same price and it feels like you got better for the price despite the less amount of shadows! I may not use the brow powders or powder if I found them but may use the bronzer as a blush like the 66 set I own, but this is an amazing set and it is only around for the holidays!

Is it worth it!? Yes! I am not disappointed in the past by sets I got so far by Ulta! Getting the sets is a good introduction to what Ulta’s own make up line offers and see what they carry in their range. It is also pretty reasonably priced unlike most of the holiday sets and higher end sets since when they come out with newer items it is in the $19-$24 range you’re buying these sets in! As said above, this is around for the holidays and it would be a nice present for a daughter or niece or a teen that is getting into make up! I highly recommend the Ulta brand of make up the most since I do have two of their sets, got two of the make up bag sets, and of course some more items! I would say get this or any of their sets!

Well, that is it for my Best Ulta Buys post! If you want to know about the Ulta make up Bockbuster sets, check out their site if you can! And also if you haven’t joined, join their membership program because you do get special offers as a member, get points towards platinum and when you get to platinum you get even more! Plus getting the points is worth getting the amounts they give you and you do get awesome things for your birth month!

And also: I would love to award Ulta’s make up line.a….PAW PRINT OF MAJOR APPROVAL! Because I love their make up a lot!

Well, that’s it! Not sure what to do next! Stay tuned!
