Favorites: July and August 2015

Hello SHiquers and welcome back to Nerdy Shique Universe! August is ending and you know what that means! It’s time for bi-monthly faves for July and August! It feels like I ididn’t have many favorites but let’s see what I liked!

Fave Find at the AFO Vendor’s Room: Tiger and Bunny Messenger Bag! Well, AFO was this month and it was fast and not only that was glad that I had some fun in the mix. I was happy to find this in the dealer room and it was my fave find there which is my Tiger and Bunny messenger bag that I was looking for since Metro last year. I know why didn’t I get it during Metro? Because I didn’t want to spend all my money all at once on two bags since I got my Soul Eater one. I know it sounded hypocritical due to how I got two bags this year but was glad to finally find this one and it does show off my comic book side with the comic pages on it.

Fave Snack I Bought: Strawberry Cheesecake KitKats! I was happy to get my paws on these since I contacted the Japanese Snacks guy about them after Omni and he got them for me while at home in Japan. I am a major fan of cheesecake and decided to look into the cheesecake flavors of KitKats after knowing that they exist and well the green tea flavor was overwhelming for me and decided to ask about getting some. When Gondras and I arrived in the dealer room, Snacks Guy was waiting and he fulfilled my request! They taste amazing! They taste like the strawberry cheesecake from Cheesecake Factory but with wafers instead of the crust! Snacks Guy did tell me that due to the heat in Japan that there is not many chocolates being produced but will have more by the time of Holiday Matsuri which I am crossing my fingers on press, if not, will have to go and retrieve chocolate from him. I have been on a major chocolate binge lately, even got a bag of the fun size Butterfingers and finally tried Arrow all thanks to the Ethnic Food aisle in my nearby grocery store. I will be looking forward and seeing if Snacks Guy can get more KitKats or, since they are Winter only, Melty Kiss. I will see what happens!

Awesome Birthday Present: Gruninja Amibo! As you guys know that I turned thirty this month and well Gondras wasn’t there to celebrate with me and he decided to surprise me with a gift this year and great that we were in the dealer room at AFO and saw something that Snacks Guy was selling among the toy items and that was the Gruninja Amibo! He knew I would love that thing since Froaky was myt starter in Y and was even excited that he was in Smash Brothers. I may be getting the Amibo reader for my 3DS since it’s coming out September from what I remember. I did hug Gondras for it because it was the most awesome surprise!

Fave Voice Actor Moment: Todd Habercorn Remembering Us from MegaCon 2012! One reason that drew me back to AFO was the guest list and was happy that Todd Habercorn came to AFO this year. When we met up with him, I did dress as Lucy for Friday and finally got the guild mark on my hand for it. When it was our turn, Gondras did the talking and mentioned the MegaCon thing and he did remember how he talked to me as Death the Kid about Fairy Tail being awesome and was glad he remembered. I pretty much said, “This what happened since then!” And he smiled and was happy about it, I even told him about how Fairy Tail is one of my all time fave anime series which made him happier. Yeah, I know I shouldn’t have judged it on one episode a long time ago, now I love it! At least he doesn’t know about my major collection of Happy plushies!

Beauty Faves!

Smashbox Cosmetics: Try It Kit and Mini Full Exposure Pallet! Now onto the beauty items that I love! First, some things from Smashbox Cosmetics! I started getting into this company more and more due to getting the sample size of their Phot Finish Face Primer and loved it and was glad that Ipsy offered the Try It Kit ten bucks less than it was and thought I would try more items as I go before I decide and be like, “What the hey?” I really like the Try It Kit a lot and it includes the face primer, the eye primer, a sample size of one of their mascaras, and one of the Photo Op Shadow Trios and it was good to sample them. I liked the shadow trio because not only it was very pigmented but the packaging is very unique! Knowing Smashbox has photo-themed products in their brand and this is pretty much a camera-lense package and you slide out the shadows like you’re changing lenses. It is pretty easy to navigate since you’re going in a triangle form with this, which your darkest is the base of the triangle when you flip it out, then you go to your crease shade which is to the right and then brow bone shade to the left, I go counter-clockwise since it is easier that way. I may get a full-size of one of the others because they have so many to choose from and easy to put on as well. The mascara, nice size for a trial one and it is the Full Exposure one by the way, is nice and curls my lashes pretty well. Not sure if I want to get it full-size in the future but it is a nice little option. While the primers, both the Photo Finish 24 Hour Eye Primer and the Photo-Finish Face primer, the problems I had were that it felt like they didn’t have enough product even with the eye primer. I notice how some Ipsters have problems with some of the lip glosses they receive in their bags that they don’t get a lot, like last October whre the Star Looks lip glosses were in the bag and some of them were half a tube and I did notice that. Now looking back on it, my Mica Eye primer I received looked like half a pot of it was missing that it was hard to get out while the gel liner from BoxyCharm was full. With the Photo Finish Eye Primer, it felt like there was a tiny size dent made to the tube and not much came out when I used it. I literally only used it three times and it was out! I was happy that I still had my Urban Decay primer tubes on me during AFO when it ran out that morning I did my ice trainer cosplay. I don’t get why I felt that some was not in there, I even noticed when I first got it in the set that I thought it wasn’t a big deal, usually you don’t go through a small size of a eye primer in three uses and I only used tiny drops. While the face primer, not sure what happened but my face felt a little itchy when I used it and some tiny zits appeared. The sample I got in my bag didn’t do that to me but the one in the kit did! When I was done with the sample size again I was glad I got back to my Rimmel face primer I use now and not sure if I should risk getting the full-size of the Smashbox Face Primer since I did love it and it was great for my skin but not sure why my face was itchy when I got my second try at the sample. I know, confusing!

Next, the Smashbox Mini Full-Exposure pallet! I got this with my Birthday Perks coupon which was $10 off anything and since I was on a Smashbox kick I was looking at some of the other shadows they had. I did debate on the Photo Op shadow trios because I was liking them a lot until I saw the Mini Full Exposure which really got me curious! I know they have a mini version of the Double Exposure but I wasn’t really interested in it when I first heard about the pallet despite how it claims to transform with water into different shades and some of the shades don’t appeal as much as the original since I can do smoky eyes with it. I decided why not go for the mini version of the original to try out and see how I feel and I really like it and it’s easy to to pick out shadows from both rows to get a good look out of it. Plus, it has browns, greys, and even a black I can use to have a nighttime look or just doing an everyday smoky eye. The actual Full Exposure may be on my things-to-buy list because the mini one just made me happy! Smashbox, you have gotten a…”Paw-Print of Approval” from me!

ELF Blush Quad! Now onto a drugstore product that really got me reaching for it everytime I apply my make up! That is the ELF Blush Quad and I believe I have the light skin one due to how it was hard knowing which one was which from not saying on the box! These blushes are very pigmented and easy to put on, one warning is that there is a lot of fall out with these so tapping is a must! I can’t seem to not get away from this pallet since it is in my make up kit all the time and it’s nice to choose from which shade you want to wear on a regular basis. This is $6 and you can find it on the website and at Target.

Rimmel Stay Matte Foundation Primer and Lip Liner in East End Snob! I have two items from Rimmel and first is the Stay Matte Foundation Primer! I heard good things about this face primer since a lot of YouTubers talked about it and decided to see what it does and see about not breaking me out. Good news is that it goes on cool and doesn’t make me so itchy like the Ulta one but I do have a tiny bit of itch and I need to be careful in not scratching. I do admit I rarely wear make up at home so I think that is why my face is not used to prolong wear in make up as it did. I do like this and it is more affordable than the Ulta one I used to use a lot. I may check out ELF’s since I heard their skin care items are made with salisilic acid and I did pick up the eye primer to try out. Rimmel does make good products and this one is nice, I wish the packaging is not the same as the Stay Matte BB creams since they look alike and hard to not confuse them with each other due to how they are right next to each other in the CVS displays.

Next is one of the retractable lip liners! I know, “Whoa! You’re using lip liners now!?” Yes, but with lip stains and lipsticks so they won’t slip and slide all over. I heard about this through JAM Beauty or Jessica Braun now on YouTube and decided to check out the shade East End Snob. It also seems to be a fave among other people because Kathleen Lights even mentioned this one. It is retractable which makes it easier than sharpening all the time, which with the pencils I tend to use a lot and have to sharpen when the lead is tiny and the retractable is easier due to how you don’t have to sharpen all the time. I do have to say be careful with the amount of pressure you apply with this because it it can break easily like with retractable eye liners. I will definitely be repurchasing this and trying out other lipliners, even from Ipsy and BoxyCharm which I started enjoying trying new ones out!

ELF Forgot-To Mention: Daily Brush Cleaner! Forgot to mention that I also have another ELF fave and that is their Daily Brush Cleaner! I found this at Target while looking for the eye primer and the kabuki brush and decided to pick it up. This makes brush cleaning easier than before! I used to clean my brushes with the hand soaps from Bath and Body Works but it made all the brushes feel gunky, especially my ELF foundation brush which I had to toss a few weeks back. The spray is easy to use which you just spray your bristles and wipe them off with a towel or rag and let the brush dry, which I do that mostly with my foundation brush, and it does save time than waiting for your brushes to dry from a water soak! I know they have the brush shampoo but with all my running to appointments and not wearing make up while at home, I don’t have the time to use the shampoo but it is an option to get and it’s the same price as the spray which is $3 and the Daily Cleanser does work as well as the higher end brush cleaners you find at Michael’s, which I hear people use that one, and at Sally Beauty. You can also find it at Target and I did re=purchase it through their website, which I will be doing a haul post here.

Fave Song: “Breaking Free” by Mechanism! Next is a song favorite and it’s by another local band and they are known as Mechanism. I never heard of them til last weekend, which I went to a concert at the House of Blues with Traverser, Breaking Theory, Kill the Sound, and these guys. They are operatic metal, which is pretty interesting to me since the band goes from opera to metal in their music and one song in particular I do like is called “Breaking Free,” which is a duet between the female lead and one of her guys and it is a soft sounding ballad and then goes all metal with growling and screaming. You do hear the lead singer doing her opera notes here and there on the album.

Fave Make Up Bag: Both Ipsy June and August Bags! I never mention fave make up bags until now because a lot of them are from Ipsy or Lancome, even Ulta whenever they do their beauty sample make up bag at certain times in the year. Starting to miss those Ulta, better start doing them for the stores again. The bags that caught my love this month are the ones for June and August because of how they are designed and also really love using them, well starting to use the August one. The June one was not a fave for most Ipsters which is weird since the theme was “Swim Into Beuaty” and it reflected that theme by make it with swimsuit material almost and put Ipsy all over as the print. I liked how soft it was and it was pretty big to carry a lot of things, which I tend to, especially lip balm because I sometimes lose them at home or on the go, even at Gondras’ place. I do have to cary less in the August one because it takes on a pencil case design like the February bag, March, and July bags but it looks a tad bit bigger in my opinion due to the material that they use, which it is a bit plastic on the outside like the October one last year and it takes on a hound’s tooth pattern and soft on the inside. I hope September’s bag looks as nice as either of them and can’t wait what they will be sending, which someone has gotten a sneak peek e-mail talking about shadows and a glame glow product. Let’s see what the Glam Room reveals!

Well, that is it for this month’s stuff! Next will be an ELF haul which recently I got the Ship for Free code and took advantage of it due to how there are new moisture lipsticks that came out. Can’t wait for its arrival! Til next time!

AFO 2015: Pokémon Actors Panel

Hello Shiquers and welcome back to Nerdy Shique Universe! Another post with panel videos for you all to enjoy! So, Sunday was pretty much my panel day and shopping day during AFO since I didn’t get to go to many panels during this one. I went to the last of Dante Basco’s panel before the Pokemon actors panel and did check out some of Reuben’s fighting panel afterwards. I forgot that he did have a Q&A panel at 10:30 while I was in the dealer’s room for last minute stuff.

The videos you’re about to see are in two parts because the IPad cut out right as Veronica Taylor was answering my question from the list I created for her. If you guys remembered from my Eric Stuart interview, I asked him how did it feel to be Gourry again in the last two seasons of Slayers since Funimation picked them up a few years back. I asked Veronica the same question but with her character Amelia! I did catch some of the answer in a tiny segment but will put it here, which you get to hear a bit of the answer at the end of part one but mostly she was happy to be called back since she wasn’t sure that she would be called back along with everyone else. Even Todd mentioned how Crispin mentioned it to him about the two seasons being brought over and Eric did chime in about how happy he got called in as well.

If you guys want to see my interview with Eric, you can still catch it here on Word Press with my MythiCon 2014 posts and on our YouTube channel! And sorry about the camera work, I was pulling a Saiga from the end of Speed Grapher during the panel with my IPad and phone to get it recorded, which I pointed both cameras to the stage. Nice work for a blind person…sort of…

Anyuway! That is it for my stuff from AFO this year. I did sign up for press at Holiday Matsuri since it has been two years since we gone back after hosting the Blind Experience back in 2013 and we liked it, even the staff was nice on top of it. I will also be checking out Ranger Stop since I have been a fan of Power Rangers since I was seven and since they announced many guests like Johnny Yong Bosh, Jason David Frank, and the SPD cast! I gotta check it out for a day or more, depending on what I think. And get to ask Dan Southworth about his blind experience on the Mortal Kombat Web Series.

What is next for Nerdy Shique Universe? My faves for July and August! Stay tuned!

AFO 2015: Todd Habercorn Q&A Panel!

Hello Shiquers and welcome back to Nerdy Shique Universe! Since AFO had ended, I did post a few videos, well two panel videos on the YouTube side and the first I’m posting here is the Todd Habercorn panel from Saturday. I know that we tend to do interviews but due to not having press badges at this event we couldn’t do it and Todd was one of the people we wanted to interview alongside Veronica Taylor, Reuben Langdon, and Christopher Kaman Lee. There will be other conventions these guys will show up if we do get press. Despite not getting it at AFO, I did work around it and that is asking a question from the interview list I came up with while I was waiting for the form. What was the question I asked?

I could’ve asked any of the ones I did have, I even was tempted to ask how did the “Let It Go” thing where he sang as Italy came to be but decided on this one:

You done younger and older voices, which one do you prefer to record most?

How’d he answered it, you will hear him as Rowan from Tales of Xilia in his words! Enjoy! Stay tuned for parts one and two of the Pokemon actors panel from Sunday!

Convention Impossible: Anime Festival Orlando 2015!

Hello everyone and welcome back to Nerdy Shique Universe! Well, it’s time for Convention Impossible for another convention and this time it’s one I haven’t been back to for two years. Yes, I am talking about Anime Festival Orlando, which is said to be “Orlando’s Favorite Convention.”

I am doing this review from an attendee’s point of view because we didn’t get press like we hoped and we are still disappointed but in the end we did sign up for another convention and crossing our fingers on that one. This is going to be hard because it felt like a really fast convention and there are things to be improved upon and of course wished we could’ve brought you the interviews we wanted to do. So, first…

DISCLAIMER: THIS REVIEW IS BASED ON OPINION AND OBSERVATION FROM THE WRITER. PLEASE DON’T GET ON THEM FOR WHAT THEY HAVE TO SAY, CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM = GOOD CRITICISM.

Location: First is location of course! For years this convention has been held at the Wyndham World Resort on International Drive until 2013 when the Wyndham decided to expand their convention center area to make it bigger and AFO had to move to the Renaissance near Sea World, which was next door to the Double Tree where MythiCon was held and it was the weekend before that one. Last year, since the Wyndham was finished, they returned to the hotel and man it changed! We did see it during Omni Expo weekend while driving by but didn’t see the actual inside of it since we really noticed the WaWa in the parking lot. That was a major bonus if we needed food very quickly. Being there again this year, the hallways were interesting to say the least. Yes, they did expand it and added more doorways to get to different parts a lot easier like the indoor bars, the cafes, and even different parts of the convention area but did notice something that a friend did pick up and that was some halls were still narrow and foot traffic was hard to get through. I am talking about the halls near the smaller panel room salons, they still have mirrored columns. No offense, those could be knocked down and firmed to make wider hallways because like every year, attendees go from one area to the next and it does get crowded. I like the Wyndham since the convention is in one big area but the hallways should be wider to keep the crowds in check and flowing easily. I did find the ramps being a bit of a mobility nightmare since I didn’t know where they started or stopped but at least I got the hang of it with friends and on my own on Sunday.

Did we stay at the hotel? No, unfortunately, the rates were risen and when I first saw them to have a group stay for two days, it was going to be $109 a night. Our friend Chibi’s friend saw the lowest he could get was $200. I know there was convention rates but not by much, so we did like most attendees did and that was stay at a hotel a block away and that was the La Quinta. Very nice rates for very nice rooms, but the breakfast…don’t recommend, better off buying pop tarts like I did. If we were to go back to Metro, thinking their La Quinta would be a nice place to look into since it is on the River Walk close to the convention center. All-in-all, staying somewhere else for cheaper is good.

Dealer Room: Oh yes, I was saving up for this part because knowing that every year AFO’s dealer room tends to suck my money to the point of having not much left, but at least I controlled myself and got things I was looking for and new items from vendors I tend to buy when I go to this convention or find them at a different one when I can. I was actually glad I was able to buy more things unlike Omni when I didn’t have much cash to work with. Always next year since that is going to be two months earlier. Back to AFO, good thing is that it was in the same spot as always and the room was very easy to navigate between aisles and there were a few newer vendors to appear. One of them happens to be Cybertron Games from here in Winter Park, which sells a lot of old school games from Nintendo, the Game Boy, Sega, and so on to our current generation, PS3, 3DS, etc. Gondras and I heard about these guys through Propeller Anime and checked them out a day after to browse and pick up things like my Pikachu Amibo. Glad to see those guys show up there and will be visiting their shop soon since they have a copy of Pokemon Pearl I want to get. And of course, they do sell anime at their shop, I I did pick up the first Tenchi Muyo movie from there. I bet you’re wondering, what did I get and from whom?

Japanese Snacks Guy: He was there as always and started selling even more toys and not only that, Gondras did get me a Gruninja Amibo from him as a belated birthday present since he was working on my birthday. Trust me, I was hugging him when he got it. I did get a box of Strawberry Cheesecake Kit Kats which I was curious about cheesecake flavors of those and Japan is well known for their many flavored Kit Kats. I also picked up two flavors of Hi-Chew in Peach and Tangerine; the tangerine ones were limited edition and decided to check them out while peach was a flavor I rarely see and according to him it was new. I love Hi-Chew and glad I can get my paws on more flavors from him. If you see him at other conventions, buy from him because he has good stuff including figures, how else did I get my Frosh keychain?

Aardvark Tees: I was happy to find these guys again because as you know I always love buying my shirts from them! They did have a few new ones and I did replace one of my shirts with my actual size and that was the Arbok’s Koffing shirt which is a parody of the Starbucks logo with Pokemon. I did try having a medium and didn’t fit well, so I got it in Extra Large. The other two I picked up was a Power Rangers crossover with Pokemon of Rita Repulsa throwing Rare Candy at some Pokemon and it says “Make My Monsters Grow!” I may have to wear this one at Ranger Stop because it makes sense and it is funny! And finally, since Jurassic World came out this year they did make one for that! It’s a silhouette of Greymon and it says “Digital World” and it does take on the logo from the movies. I did give the guys an idea I had and it dealt with Happy from Fairy Tail as a Happy Meal box. Let’s see if they make it! BTW people, you can find these shirts at http://www.aardvarktees.com along with some of the others I have mentioned like my Gypsy Danger petting Eva Unit 1, the Prini Rights, and so many more!

Some of the other things I got included Fairy Tail Part 15 which I was itching to pick up due to the announcement of 16 coming out this month and wanted to watch more of it since it is getting good as always. I also did get another Fairy Tail messenger bag because the bag strap adjuster on my Erza bag cracked and I was sad about it. The guy who sold it to me said this one with the logo is sturdier and hoping it is since I do like using messenger bags as purses. I also finally found the Tiger and Bunny one I saw at Metro a year ago which had the comic book pages on it and it looked awesome! May use it next year since the next Marvel movie phase is going to be epic! A Sylveon plushie, a blue cat tail to go with my blue cat ears when I wear them, the Fairy Tail symbol necklace, and something I never thought I would get and that is a pair of steam punk goggles in Harley Quin style! When the guy mentioned those, I couldn’t resist! The good thing is, he does make the goggles and I can have custom jobs done, which I have a cosplay design coming up that I will be going to him for a pair of goggles to go with it.

Man, no wonder the dealer room at this convention seems to get good vendors like MetroCon does, which is a good thing because they blend people that make items in it and have shops selling their stuff. Now to save the rest of what I have left for other conventions at the end of this year.

Guests: The guests is one major reason that got me to come back for this year and wanted to do press for since they got guests that have been to Orlando recently which happened to be Eric Stuart, which as you know I have interviewed a year ago at MythiCon, and Dante Basco, who has been at KnightroKon and MetroCon last year as well. You can still view the video interview with Eric on our YouTube page and read the Dante Basco interview here on Word Press.

What guests that got me coming back were Todd Habercorn and Veronica Taylor due to how Todd was the nail in the coffin for Fairy Tail and that I was glad to see Veronica back after nine years and have grown up with her voice as Ash Ketchum, Ash’s mom, and May. I did show up to Todd’s Friday signing as Lucy and he did remember MegaCon 2012 and he was glad that I love the series and how it became a top fave of mine. I did bring part 15 for him to sign on Saturday since I didn’t bring any of the other parts that may have Natsu and thought like in Part 1 have him sign it like some of the other cast members that shown up in 2012. We also did get both Tails of Xilia games signed by him, the first insert on Friday and the second one on Saturday due to…well…this was the first AFO that I ever heard an autograph charge. The charge was the first item was free and the second item was $20 and pictures were also charged even with your camera and that was $10. Nerdy Shirts, who was with me Saturday since Gondras was working the rest of the weekend, was sad that he had to pay for a pic because he wanted to have one with Reuben Langdon. I was bummed too because I had Summer Wars on me along with my mini Death the Kid plushie. What was even harder was Veronica Taylor since I had all the rest of Slayers for her to sign since she signed my original Central Park Media box for season one back in 2006. I did get the original Central Park Media box for Try and the first season of Pokemon signed since the each of us carried one item. I did have to get Eric Stuart to redo his signature on Evolution R if I remembered right due to how smudged it was. I have to say is that with the charge being a bit excessive, I liked how autographs were free back in the past and same with photos as well and the only thing you get charged was any photos or posters that the guests brought. Plus, it would’ve been great to have the photo ops with each guest in a private area like in 2012 because it gives a nice intimate moment with them and have a pic on your phone or Ipad or camera to take with you. I was still glad that Todd remembered that moment from 2012 and I did surprise Veronica with my age since I do get the surprised reaction due to not looking the age. I am glad that I did get Slayers Try signed due to how you can’t find the Central Park Media boxes anymore and will treasure it forever, even season one.

Panels and Events: Even though we didn’t go to many of them due to how we got caught in bad weather, especially Saturday when we walked back to the hotel and it turned into Monsoon La Florida, I did go to some on Sunday to make up for it. Nerdy Shirts and I did video tape on the IPad the entirety of Todd’s Q&A panel and I did attempt the end of Speed Grapher getting the Pokemon actors panel, which some of you may not know that Todd is Tierno in XY. I also attended the last bit of Dante Basco’s panel since I didn’t get to go to any of his panels during the weekend and did have a question about his crossover with Nostalgia Critic last year for the “Best Avatar Episodes” where he came in as Zuko ad it hilarity ensues! His answer was that Dog’s great and his family was great and he had a lot of fun doing it with him. I would recommend watching that episode if you haven’t. He also mentioned how there is going to be another Hook movie but it’s centering around his character Rufio and how became a lost boy, not sure if it’s going to be animated or live-action at this point, at least it’s in the thinking stages.

Other panels I did take a look into was Reuben Langdon’s fighting panel which was pretty interesting and did go to Manime Man’s Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure panel that deals with doing the many poses from the anime. I liked it! It was like if you were doing yoga but doing it to anime shots of different poses and it did bring my flexibility back from not doing yoga in months and I did almost fall over from how the bells on my collar and ears were jingling like crazy. It was very fun, especially seeing people compete for a special edition box set in a posing contest. I want to see more panels like this because it shows more one-on-one with anime and gives attendees a nice demonstration in what an actor goes through with stunts like Reuben did for the movies he has stunt coordinated for and of course the many pose panels which helps with a lot of cosplaying, which can give major points for costume contests.

I didn’t see any of the Tails of Orlandia stuff due to how much running around and waiting in lines, and so on during the weekend. I did like the joke of the Line Ride from South Park that was made earlier Saturday morning, which was essentially Lines the Ride!

Verdict: CONVENTION COMPLETE! It was hard choosing to say about the verdict on this convention because it wasn’t really an accomplished due to how we did get in late Friday, went to one signing, and the weather was just bad, hell even flood advisories were made for the International Drive area. Trust us, so glad we had a third floor room at the La Quinta. And it didn’t seem it needed the Aborted rating either because there weren’t many things to see why it needed it. Reason that Complete fits more is because despite not having the press forms, we still had a good time overall. There is something I do need to talk about…

Needs for Improvement: Time Management! As always, a lot of conventions aren’t always perfect and I did notice on the group page for AFO a lot of panelists were waiting on news about panels. Heck, I was pretty much on the edge of my seat about press status and that took a long time as well despite the form was just one day and that was in July, month before the convention and felt a little unfair about the form. To me, after experiences with other conventions with their press and panel forms, they should be up at the same time. Why? Because when running a convention you are pretty much on crunch time with the many deadlines you have. Whether it’s auditioning for a certain show that is being done, like the LARP experience that AFO does every year, or making sure that the hotel dates and your dates are on the same page, you are on a major crunch time. This goes the same way with the many applications that conventions have because even if we are panelists, press, volunteers, and so on, we need the time between the deadlines if we got accepted to make plans if we need to reserve a room, find people to stay with, transportation arrangements which is a major must at these things, and what equipment to use for panels or press.

Another thing is that with the press form, like I said above, should be up with the panels and artist’s alley and dealer room forms because the July 3rd at midnight deadline caught us off guard! Seriously. If we didn’t know that that was the time they needed to be filled out the same day as they were posted, Gondras and I would’ve gone to Ongaku Overdrive and not contact Nerdy Shirts about it either. So glad I did check on the Handy Dandy Braille Sense. The thing is other conventions tend to do this because a lot of people are starting blogs and YouTube channels dedicated to conventions and other things. The better example is MetroCon due to how they pick press and panels at the same time knowing how many people want to do interviews with the guests and the panelists are able to pick out the rooms on the schedule so the time constraints before the convention would be easier. Plus, there are times when a blog or people who do Podcasts need the time after being selected to research who they are interviewing to come up with questions, such as for Lauren Landa, when I interviewed her, I did a lot of research on her work since she did both video games and anime.

In the end, the real thing is mostly time management needs to be improved because seeing how a convention works as a press badge holder and a volunteer in the past, it’s NOT easy! Especially when things do go wrong if they did at last minute, you never know.

Well, that is it for this Convention Impossible! Will we go back to AFO? I don’t think so! I know there were some positives out of this convention but there are things to be worked on and glad that panels do get time to set up and operate for that hour. Even though doing unofficial press as an attendee, it was not the same actually due to how we did want to interview Reuben Langdon, which you guys could’ve seen Gondras do that, Todd Habercorn, Veronica Taylor, and Christopher K. Lee which would’ve brought my first Power Ranger interview to this blog and YouTube. We did find a way around it and you will see in the video posts I put here. I do want to thank Nerdy Shirts for helping me get out of that slump when I got the big turn down, which was bad enough when it happened the day after a bad situation took place in my personal life.

Nerdy Shique Universe has been an important thing in my life, despite it being baby form back on Blog Spot and growing here on Word Press, I wouldn’t be enjoying every minute of it and every post I bring to you guys. I am almost in tears writing this because of the sacrifices we made to get out to conventions to bring you videos or transcribed interviews for you all to enjoy. Even cosplay tips and tricks, fan fiction rants, and even stuff about beauty since it can relate to cosplay in a way. I bring it to you guys! It’s all because of you guys that this blog has grown and I am dedicated to bring it to you. I even enjoy getting the chance to meet the people behind the microphone in video games and anime, even music since I did interview a local band, to learn more about them. Without us, you wouldn’t learn that Dameon Clarke was in Supernatural nor Castle or Bryce Papenbrook had a hard time doing a scream after an entire pile of sweet potato fries, you get to learn so many things from these people. With all the Monster Javas I chug and all the research we’ve done, for interviews even with my posts, in the end I love it! That makes Nerdy Shique Universe the blog that it is and we are willing to find ways of making it better and still bring you the best.

What is next for conventions? Well, as said above, signed up for press for Holiday Matsuri! It’s been two years since we gone back to that one as well and it would be a nice holiday present for you all to cover a holiday themed convention with a multimedia twist! I am not sure about Ranger Stop, since Zeno revealed the entire guest list and it got this kitty wanting to go after being a Power Rangers fan since age seven. And a possible day trip to ShadoCon in Tampa! Because one of our fave reviewers on the net, Spoony, will be there and I do have stuff to get signed by Neil Kaplan again and it would be good to touch bases with him again.

Well, stay tuned for the panel videos, you will enjoy what we caught in our own way of press. Til next time!

Ipsy and BOxyCharm: August 2015

Hello Shiquers and welcome back to Nerdy Shique Universe! Well, another month and another time for Ipsy and BoxyCharm! I finally got both in the mail, well BoxyCharm came before my Ipsy bag which is weird since they either come at the same time or Ipsy comes first but it was the other way around. It seemed that BoxyCharm also shown up first while I was away for AFO, which my review will be up next for that. Let’s see what I got in both!

Ipsy: This month’s theme was “Prep School” and it fits since some states start school in August while others don’t start til next month, Ipsy usually kicks it off with their bag and unlike last year, the bag was very different! Last year’s bag was a pencil case type bag and the items were tiny compared to other items in other months and a lot of people didn’t like it. I did and I got the idea of the theme while this year it was more of a hounds tooth-like bag and very textured. It kind of feels like last month’s bag but more plastic/vinyl feeling and inside you have a cloth material. It is a pretty decent size this year and the items fit with this year which a lot of Ipsters got pencil-type items and other things you may use in school, especially when a lot of younger teens have been getting into make up and I always remembered standing behind girls hogging the mirrors and sinks putting on make up. Anyways, I did get one item I had to give to my mom and the rest was good!

Ofra Cosmetics Lip Liner in Wine! To start my Prep School bag is a liner pencil and it’s for the lips! As said, a lot of Ipsters got pencil items to fit with the theme and lip liner pencils were part of it and I got my lip liner from Ofra Cosmetics, which I have tried products from them such as my first Ipsy Me offer of an eye shadow pallet, the shimmery blush stripes from BoxyCharm and also an eyeliner, forgot about that, and one of the points items in the points shop. I never tried a lip liner by these guys and it’s good to try out something new and it’s clever to put a lip liner in this, plus it’s my second lip liner I ever gotten and starting to use them here and there. It is in a wine nude color, I think it will go with a lot of my lip colors.

Doucce Precision Eye Liner in Black! Another pencil for the month and that is an eye liner pencil by a brand called Doucce. I gotten a face mask by this brand in BoxyCharm but gave it to my mom since it is meant for mature skin. I am glad to receive an eye liner by these guys because it lets me explore this brand more and of course eye liner is a major item I love to use and it’s good that I get these because I don’t have to buy so many eye liners in the store and let me try out newer brands. This is in black and it is very universal to have black liner since it is pretty much a base color to have. I have tons of black liners but hey I get to try out other companies while I use them up! It says on the page that is very precise and glides on very smoothly, which I like and it’s also a blends easily! Plus it’s full size, which I did get a liner sample last August from Lord and Berry, which that brand was also one of the others available this year, in black as well but used it up due to how tiny it was. At least it is full size and will last even longer! I hope to get more of this brand along the way!

Marc Anthony Argon Oil! Next is a hair product and it’s my second time trying out the brand Marc Anthony! As we all go back to school, we love to use hair products and this was a perfect time for Ipsy to give out hair items! Some Ipsters did receive a Brioggio volume spray and this argon oil by Marc Antony. I tried the hair spray and love it and got the full size of it and now this time I have a hair oil, I can’t wait to try it out since I have so many other hair items from both the subscriptions I have, like the Cool Way Leave in Oil, the Gorge Cosmetics Leave In Conitioner and the product I got in Boxy this month. I love getting hair items and this one is something good totry. And also good news, mine didn’t leak.

La Fresh Group Good Night Cream! This is something I gave to my mom because of its properties and that is La Fresh Group’s Good Night Night Cream. I know I should be happy since it is a night cream but not, this cream is meant for people with wrinkles and crow’s feet and I don’t have that. Yes, I know it’s hydrating but it is meant for older skin. Again, I would’ve been happy with nail polish instead or anything else but this is not something I use. At least my mom gets to put it to good use!

Hikari Lip Gloss! Yay! Another Hikari item! I love Hikari and and was super excited to find out that I was getting an item by them again and was looking forward to getting the lip gloss when I saw my Glam Room! A lot of Ipsters got this item and they got it in the color Salsa which is a red, not sure if it’s red but glad to try this out since I liked the Cabronet lipstick that I swapped for. Glad that Ipsy sent this to me and hoping they get more Hikari items in the future because this is a good company.

BoxyCharm: This month’s BoxyCharm was slightly better. It had more eye related products but one stood out in particular!

Coastal Sense Revealed 3! First item is the Coastal Sense Revealed 3 pallet! I was so happy to get it this month because I was hoping to get it in one of the boxes and decided to wait for that and my patience paid off. I did get the first two in December and April like everyone else and loved them and now the third pallet has come. This pallet has the twenty shades and it still has the cardboard covering but it feels more sturdier than the first two because it has more of the standard pallet look inside minus the magnets all over the place. This pallet has more of the pink and purple shades along with some bronze-like and taupe shades and one black one. I wore it and it felt great on the eyes, but the warning is that these are pretty powdery, so some tapping may be required with brushes. I hope they give out more Coastal Sense stuff because it is a great company to get items from!

Mica Beauty Gel Liner! Next is another eye product and it’s the Mica beauty gel liner in black. I stopped wearing the potted gel liners because not only they can kind of get messy but they started bothering my eyes a bit. That even includes the liquid liners since they do bother a little but the extra step is annoying and I prefer pencils now. I know they are meant for the upper part but it’s hard for me to apply there, that is why I put liquids and gels on the lower line on top of the pencil. I do like Mica beauty items, heck still using the eye primer I got in Ipsy, I won’t be using this and may give it away to Vivi or someone else.

Nio Sheild Texture Spray! Next up another hair product and it’s by Nio Sheild. I never heard of these guys before and it seems interesting, especially this spray or hair oil since it has a pump for that has SPF in it which would help with the scalp from sun damage. Perfect for Florida due to how we are known as the Sunshine State except a friend made a point that we should be the Thunder State due to how bad the weather’s been lately. Anyuway, this is a nice try since I can’t use any make up with SPF due to sensitivity, the hair may be better due to how it is supposed to help with texture and keeps frizz away with the argon oil in it. Perfect yet again! It also has Vitamin B and E5 which is also good. Wish they had this in stores around summer since it will help during this time of year. I will try it out and see how my frizz will be tamed.

So Susan Statement Highlighter Crayon! Yay! Another highlighting product ad another company I never heard of. Like in my many reviews, I like trying out new brands and it’s good to try them out in these subscriptions. This is a chiseled highlighter crayon and it is in the color Moonstone by what I heard from one video who got this. I tried it out and it is very easy to use because it goes on smoothly and easy to put on the cupid’s bow and nose. I think it goes on better than the highlighting pencil I got in Ipsy a few months back, heck this doesn’t need a sharpener since it’s self sharpening. Boxy and Ipsy needs to give out more highlighters after getting this.

Seta Eye Liner Brush! Last and definitely not least, the Seta eye liner brush, which may be useful besides in eye liner. How so? Well, since I started getting my Fairy Tail emblem painted on, it would be nice to get the small details painted a bit. Anyways, this is supposed to give you a nice precise and chiseled line on your lines and even. As said, since not using the gel liners, I would use this for getting any make up detailing for any other work.

Well, that’s it for this month. A better month for BoxyCharm since it did send the Revealed 3 this time and now have all three pallets, which will be showing to Vivi since she wants to check them out. Glad to get a hair product for the summer, wished they gave this out in May due to how hot the sun has been all summer. Then of course Ipsy with the lip and eye pencils, lip gloss, and another hair product. I will give away the gel liner from Mica since I stopped using those. All-in-all, great month and can’t wait what September will bring to these boxes.

What is next up for Nerdy Shique Universe? Convention Impossible with Anime Festival Orlando 2015! Will it be a Convention Acoomplished, Complete, or Aborted? Then I have two videos from two panels and will be starting a new segment known as “Doesn’t Sound the Same” with artists changing their music to fit with the times or just not how they used to be. And of course, forgot, the whole too young for make up thing. Stay tuned for all that!
