New Cosplay Documentary: #Cosplay Not Equal to Consent

Hello Shiquers and welcome back to Nerdy Shique Universe! Sorry for not posting for a while since the Ipsy and BoxyCharm post since we still haven’t posted the interview videos. Don’t worry, those will be up soon since they need to be edited. Stay tuned for those and any updates on our Twitter page!

Anyways, I want to turn the convention area to something a little different. We all know that there are documentaries have been made on many subjects such as biographies, stuff on the end of the world such as the most recent one that was on Discovery on extinction, but there is one I want to talk about and it deals with cosplay.

One night I was on Facebook and noticed a post made on the Florida Cosplayers page by a person named Katarina Muyers and she was talking about a last call for stories for her a documentary she is making on harassment being done at conventions and it’s mostly on cosplayers. I contacted her and wanted to tell my story from AFO 2010 where a creeper creeped on me during the Yaoi PJ Party which I included a book I have been working on. (Still in the middle of editing by the way.) Then talked more about it which I found pretty interesting.

The documentary is about teaching people about harassment that is taking place in our convention and cosplay community and how its impact on people. People are getting taught better about it today but it seems to get swept under the rug still. It started off as a school project to show her classmates about cosplay nad conventions and Katarina found it interesting in how much time and money is spent in making the finished project with what people are making them.

As time went on, she did research more about it and wanted to focus on the harassment part of it since that there are people aren’t getting the message and there hasn’t been something like this done. I do agree with that point since there are people still doing it in many ways and don’t see it that way, such as the creeper that got on me did nuzzle me like a cat and then licked me and I did try telling him I was dating Gondras at the time, which this happened the year before he proposed to me, he said it didn’t matter. Hell, he followed a girl who was dating someone that I talked to at the same event we were at when it happened had him follow her halfway to her hotel room and she said the same “I’m dating someone” and got the same response. And even in the past there were photographers that did upskirt shots from stories I seen on the net.

I asked where this documentary can be seen when it’s done and she’s hoping to get it shown at conventions and at film festivals; once it’s all done it would be on YouTube and on a Facebook page dedicated to the project. With more works on the horizon, she wants to gear towards the entertainment industry and try to make a convention documentary.

I like the idea that someone like Katarina is doing something like this because it does spread the word that things like this do take place in our lovely convention scene. I would love to see what she pieces together with what she has with my story in tow. And a nice word to the wise, if you guys see anything off and might have someone creeping, security is always your friends both the convention center and volunteers.

You can catch her Facebook page at:

Her documentary is called #Cosplay Not Equal to Consent. She will hand me the YouTube link at a later time but you can check the Facebook out for now and keep up to date there and tell you friends who are convention attendees like we are and cosplayers as well since we do cosplay and keep on doing it for the fun of it it doesn’t mean we have to be harassed while doing it.

What is next on Nerdy Shique Universe? I will keep you up to date on the interviews since we did give Fox Warrior the flashdrive with the videos from Omni Expo, we will get those up and have them here for you guys to view. I suggest going to our Twitter for the updates as well because it helps following us and know what is going on and you can find us @ Nerdy Shique! Stay tuned!

Ipsy and BoxyCharm: March 2016

Hello Shiquers and welcome back to Nerdy Shique Universe! Time to take a break from the Omni Expo coverage since we have to edit the interview videos and we’re getting help with that and will have those up soon. Sorry about that!

So, what do I have instead? I got my Ipsy and BoxyCharm for March! I got Ipsy in the mail Friday and BoxyCharm today, wishing they come at the same time like some months so I can write this post up front but what can I do? Let’s see what I got!

Ipsy: Ipsy’s theme this month is “Hello Spring” and it matches due to how March is when Spring flies in on the 20th. I was told the 21st but the calendars say 20th. Anyways, there were three designs this month for the bag and I got the teal and orange striped bag while everyone else got the coral or orange ones along with this one. I am so glad I got this one because I tend to love blue colors even in nail polish. Good news is that my bag did improve due to retaking the quiz, I unmarked foundation, concealer, and powder on the “Items You Use Most’ question because that is how I didn’t get the blushes like I hoped and got powders and concealers instead. It worked out better.

Marc Anthony Oil of Morroco 3 Day Nourishing Blow Dry Cream: I gave this to my mom despite it being a Marc Anthony product. Reason why? Well, I don’t use hair dryers on a regular basis. I remembered how my mom blown dry my bangs but that got really annoying and did burn a little, plus it did damage my hair as time went on so this is a great thing for my mom to try out since she uses a hair dryer and she hasn’t tried this brand before but I have. She did ask me what I use to keep my hair going nuts and two of the items are from this brand. I did get the Reparing Macadamia Oil trio which comes with the shampoo, conditioner, and leave-in oil treatment from the offers page and they smell amazing! Can’t wait to try them!

Vera Mona Lotus Eye Shadow in Clover: I heard about this brand through some YouTubers that have gotten something called the Color Switch is where you can clean off shadow while applying it and want to use the same brush for other shadows. They did include that in a pallet they sold on the website on one Ipsy Offer but wanted to see how this shadow stands since I never tried anything from this brand before. This shadow is a peach with gold shimmer in it even though the product page on the Glam Bag area said it was a rosy gold but someone described it on YouTube as a peach and since I never tried out peachy shades it was good to check it out. I did wear it and had the NYX gold eye pencil to go with it since it just goes right with each other. The shadow did glide on very well on primer and did stay put throughout the day. I may have to try out some golden shadow looks with this to see how it pairs with other golden shades. I hope to get more from this brand in future bags or through the offers page.

Pixie By Petra Beauty Blush Duo in Rose Gold: This was what got me excited since I was glad I retook the quiz and it is a blush and highlighter duo from Pixie. Nowadays a lot of companies are coming out with ombre blushes and blush and highlighting duos and even trios from what I heard with some companies. This one by Pixie had me happy except what happened with the package and that is the plexiglass covering breaking off in transit which I am getting a replacement. I did use this by swirling around my blush brush and put it on my cheek bones, not apples, and it blended pretty well. It is a nice rosy color with a golden highlight which is a nice thing on the go if you need to travel and don’t want to carry both a highlighter and a blush. This does it for you!

NYX Liquid Suede Cream Lipstick: I think Ipsy should’ve given out the newer liquid lipstick in this bag since they are into newer products and that is the Lip Lingerie. But what made me happy about this is that I got a color I wanted to get from Ulta but they only had testers of when I tried getting it and that is Kitten Heels. The other two colors were Soft Spoken and Pink Lust which are two other colors but in the pinky range. I do have the blush in Soft Spoken and wouldn’t mind getting that but Kitten Heels is what I wanted most and crossed my fingers on that. These Liquid Suede lipsticks are okay but very comfortable as time does go on while wearing them, I guess the Amethyst one was the more okay one but Kitten Heels was the better. I may have to get this if Ulta didn’t run out. I will have to check out the Lip Lingerie ones in the future when the craze for them dies down.

Me Me Me Powder Brush: Yay! Another brush and it’s a powder brush by a brand called Me Me Me! When I got my bag I put it with the rest of my brushes in my day-to-day case and I love how soft this brush is! I’m glad to get a powder brush since I have been using my Mistura brush for a while again and get to see other brands with brushes. There were a few shadow brushes but getting a powder brush was a nice change.

BoxyCharm: This month’s BoxyCharm was a different change this month because of not only they changed the card which you have to go online for what you got, well look at the items that came in it and see the items’ descriptions that way, and of course they sent items at random in each box. I did notice how the Mistura brush was back along with the Previse Hydromilk Moisturizer and asked about it which I got the response that the newer charmers would get those instead of the older charmers. What did I get?

Ofra Charming Glow: I love Ofra cosmetics and glad to get this from them! This is supposed to be a BoxyCharm exclusive color and it can be used on the face and body which I would use on the face more than body. It is a decent sized product since it is 4.4 fl oz. I can’t wait to see how this will work out since I did run out of the NYX Gleam illuminizer a while ago and do have the Jelly Pong Pong one from December.

Luxie Beauty Contouring Brush: Makes me happy that I got another Luxie brush through Boxy and have loved these guys since I got my blush brush in Ipsy and their brushes are still soft as ever! This time it’s a contouring brush, which I am thinking of using this for highlighting since I don’t use contouring products at all since I can’t see myself in the mirror doing it. Highlighting will be the best use for this brush!

Chella Tantilizing Taupe Brow Pencil: I find it interesting that I got all the items that they say that will come randomly depending on who gets what and the three brands they mentioned in a sneak peek were Chella, Luxie, and Ofra and guess what, lucky me! Not so lucky with the brow pencil since I don’t use these due to how I prefer the clear brow gel. I used up the Chella brow gel a while back and that was really good and may trade this pencil.

Catherine Malendrino Style De Paris Perfume: Yay! Another perfume! Also another spray like last month’s perfume and this one is also fruity with a hint of earthiness to it. The notes are Ruby Red Grapefruit, Nashi Pear, which I heard about those pears through CanadaJin3 on YouTube when she made a potato salad with them, Gardenia and Orange Blossoms. No wonder I smelled a familiar flower since I still have Orange Blossom perfume from Lush. This is a very nice perfume and stays a lot more than the Real Treee one last month. I put it on top of CK One and Snowcake which I was wearing already and it made it smell sweeter. Can we have more perfumes Boxy?

MakeUp Geek Eye Shadows: The final items in the box are what made me happy this month and that are the MakeUp Geek eye shadows they gave out! They had three kinds which everyone got a matte one and either a foiled one or a shimmer one and the matte shade pressed one I got is Cocoa Bear which is a very popular shade with everyone who buys from this brand and the other is a shimmery peach one called Mai Tie or however you spell it, which peach is a huge staple in a lot of people’s collections. I never tried MakeUp Geek and wanted the Manny pallet so badly so will be waiting on getting that. I am glad to try these little pans because it gives me an idea of what MakeUp Geek is all about! I heard good things in pigmentation and how beautiful these colors are made. I hear about this brand along with Colour Pop, which that brand is also amazing. Good start to the shadow try out this month.

Thoughts: Both sides were equally good actually because I got to try a new color I wanted in the NYX Liquid Suede lipstick, wishing they gave out the Lip Lingerie even though next month is a possibility. I got two new brushes from one brand I already love and the other from a new brand I never tried. I finally get to try MakeUp Geek shadows for my first time along with Vera Mona. My mom gets to see what I love about Marc Anthony since I enjoy their products and she knows that Ulta and Walgreens do carry it, which she may be asking for a full-size since it is sooooo affordable! I am also glad to try out more Ofra products since I love their liquid lipsticks and shadows and now banana powder from last month since I use that to set my under eye concealer. Plus a new blush and perfume. The brow pencil will be traded since I prefer clear gels. All in all a good month for month and hoping they keep it up! Can’t wait to see what is up for April!

Well, that is it for this month! I will try and get the interviews up from Omni Expo for you guys! Stay tuned for those because I had a blast doing them. Til next time!

Omni Expo 2016: Opening Ceremonies Clip!

Hello Shiquers and welcome back to Nerdy Shique Universe. Continuing my coverage from Omni Expo, I am bringing you a clip from Opening Ceremonies!

We did get three parts of it but decided to give you part one since that introduces the guests from this year. You can go and watch the other two parts on the YouTube channel which you can click on “Watch on YouTube” on the video. Speaking of videos, have to update you guys on that, we do have the interviews but the videos need to be edited due to some of them are upside down. I know I am hearing laughter but we somehow had them recorded like that and also need to put two parts together since one of the interviews got recorded on Gondras’ phone and then mine due to the IPad almost full due to the Opening Ceremony videos. We are planning to get a video camera but in the meantime, you will get these from the phones and IPad.

I would say stay tuned for our interview videos because the first one is with Brian Beacock! I am also hoping to receive my Ipsy and BoxyCharm in the mail in a few days, I know Ipsy might be here today while Boxy a few days from now due to just getting my tracking. And make sure you follow us on Twitter and YouTube for any new videos!

If you guys are wondering about any more press? We’re looking into MegaCon right now since their guest list is HUGE! We’re not kidding! Just stay tuned for any updates! Enjoy!

Convention Impossible: Omni Expo 2016

DISCLAIMER: THIS REVIEW IS BASED ON OPINION AND OBSERVATION! PLEASE RESPECT THE THOUGHTS and feelings of the one writing this review. If you don[‘t like, don’t read it!

Hello Shiquers and welcome back to Nerdy Shique Universe! Well, another convention has passed where we done press and it’s time for Convention Impossible for Omni Expo 2016! Yay! This year was new location, new guests, and new interviews as well! So, we got a lot of new experiences from this convention and had a lot of fun! Let’s see what I think and if it is a Convention Accomplished, Complete, or, doubt it would be, Aborted?

Hotel: Too bad this convention was not at the Rosen Center this year even though that was a nice place, but of course a convention does grow out of its location like Holiday Matsuri had. This year it was at the Double Tree across from Universal and man it was a very good choice! How so? Well, it was all in one building versus more than one like the one near SeaWorld. The only thing I wished some of the conventions and hotels would do is to put up signs to indicate the location they are at instead of people guessing where to go if they aren’t staying at the location, especially if you are at a huge location with a lot of levels to it like the World Center back in year one. What was also weird was that some of the parking lots were blocked off and like with the sign thing, no signs to show where to park either. Yet again, signs please and thank you. We did get to have free parking even if we had to be in the Kobe Steakhouse parking area which it looked like where we parked was in there. Hey, better than nothing. Speaking of restaurants, there were restaurants where you could walk to and we did that Friday night with GOlden Corral since it was right there and we did drive to other places nearby which was very convenient. I hope they stay at this hotel for next year if they are doing another one because it is so easy to navigate inside for one thing, everything was in one place than having to walk building to building to get to events like how the Ramada near Kissimmmee was with JACON and the Double Tree with MythiCon near SeaWorld, especially with how unpredictable Florida weather is where it’s hot, it’s been seasonably cold which is good, and of course rainy even around summer if they decide to move the dates. I also heard that Spooky Empire was at that same one and can see why they hold it there. I also liked the set up with the vendor’s room and Artist’s Alley being in two different rooms which we don’t have to go far in the vendor’s room to find artist’s alley. I didn’t get to see it so much but knew where it was. Then there were smaller rooms near the bathroom area for viewing rooms, gaming, both tabletop which was a first, and video gaming. There was also a smaller panel room as well for open discussions which was also fun and that was the Sci-Fi room.

Vendor’s Room: Since I mentioned vendor’s room in the Hotel section, it was pretty nice and well…not many vendors this year like the last. I did have a bit more money this year and was hoping to find some of the vendors from Holiday Matsuri to buy from besides the Japanese Snacks guy, which I will get to him next, but there weren’t that many! I think it was also because of ConjureCon taking place that Saturday and Sunday. I just hate it whenever I have a bit more money to spend this year that there is not much. I did get three items and it shows since I tend to go spend crazy at these things but not so much even with limited space in my room. What did I get? Well, one thing is a sleeping Raichu beanie baby! There was a stand that sold imported plushies of Pokemon, Digimon, and many other items and man there was a lot! You know me I do love Pokemon and have been collecting plushies of them and now got back to the card game which I have braille labels on my decks. At first I almost bought a Skitty plushie that had a face going “Nya!” It was so cute! You know me and cats and even have a Skitty on my team in Alpha Sapphire. But Gondras had to break me and it was with a Sleeping Raichu! What do I mean by this? Well, at the Pokemon Center stores lately there has been versions of the Pokemon plushies like they are lseeping and they have the little animated faces to show they are sleeping. They mostly did it in the Ty Beanie Baby style and have Pokemon such as Mew, the Evees, Cyndaquil, and of course, my all time fave, Raichu! It is sooooo cute! If you find these anywhere with your fave Pokemon or go to the Pokemon Center website, get them! I will get Skitty another time if I see this dealer and hoping I have more in my money pouch since she also sold the Cosplay Pikachu plush of him as Lucario. I wish they made one of Lugia since that was my fave legendary.

Now onto the other place where I bought from and that is my buddy Mr. Japanese Snacks! Hey, made a new name! I bought cheesecake flavored Lucky Chocolates! I heard about these before a long time ago actually and seen videos of people having them and they are basically chocolates that spell out “Lucky” and they are packaged in the style of Hershey bars but they are already separated for you. He had many flavors but the cheesecake ones appealed to me like crazy! They do taste like cheesecake but with a hint of fruitiness. I want more of these because I love Japanese chocolates a bit more than American ones except for Ghiradelli, I love that brand the most and if I end up as a guest and ask for gifts for fans to bring (which I hear stories about), Ghiradelli is my number one. Anyways, the main thing I bought from him was all thanks to PikaBelleChu! She posted back around January a picture of a tin of Pokemon cookies that has Pikachu and a few other Pokemon on it and I asked her on Facebook, “Where can I get them?” She told me that only the Pokemon Center in Japan has it and was kind of sad but then realized that I knew Mr. Japanese Snacks and shoot him an email and he said he was going back to Japan in February and will drop by the Tokyo one and get me a tin. I was happy! What made it more fun of the story is that he was at another convention before Omni and had it on display! An attendee sees it and asks for it and he tried telling them nicely it was for someone else and the person begged him because you can’t get this anywhere in the US and this tin is made for the 20th Anniversary for Pokemon. He sold it and did ask his buddy to overnight him another tin and glad he did! It was $15 but worth the pretty penny because you can’t find this unless you’re in Tokyo. The flavor he got me was mil tea and they are DELICIOUS! My patience was very rewarded and of course will keep the tin since it is gorgeous. I suggest if you see Mr. Japanese Snacks, buy from him! He gets very good stuff from Japan and does go back for more of it. All in all, there should be more vendors for this convention, hoping next year!

Guests: Oh man, this year’s special guests were awesome! They did get Austin Tindle back and of course everyone remembered the shouting his name multiple times from last year. I wasn’t expecting the panels they put on being very fun! Maybe I should talk about that here as well since they were very entertaining with what we went to!

RJ Heady was a blast to see! We went to interview him and found his display at the signing area and didn’t know he also made a Mrs. Doubtfire costume! He even does a very awesome impersonation…I bet you’re wondering who? First, RJ Heady was the fan favorite during Face Off in Season Two and if you have seen that season, that was with the Tim Burton challenge where the contestants had to do a Tim Burton version of certain people like the toymaker, baker, and what he got was the bell hop. I don’t want to spoil that for you since he talked about it in detail in the interview and I would say search for videos of that challenge if you’re curious. While Mrs. Doubtfire on the other hand, if you were a 90’s kid like I was, it was the movie where Robin Williams took on a nanny persona, which was a very funny flick. If you guys want to stay tuned for the interview, he was a very nice guy and very awesome to talk to about visual effects stuff since that was a major first to do for Nerdy Shique Universe and made sense due to how I mention makeup from drugstores and highend for cosplay. If you seen my cosplays, that is where you see some of the stuff I used.

Brian Beacock was another guy we interviewed and was funny is that he never played Cards Against Humanity and there was a panel where some of the guests played with the Co-Head of Omni at a game of it. Oh man, it was hilarious at first but then died a bit down. It was fun seeing him reading some of the ridiculous stuff and he was awesome interviewing him. I got to learn more about his background and the series he is working on called Acting Dead. We will have that video and the links to that website up for you when it does go up.

Jeff Perazzo and Kevin Duhaney were the Power Ranger guests and of course our first Power Rangers interview ever. I was glad that two of the Dino Thunder rangers were there since we get to see any of the Disney year rangers, even though the SPD cast was at Ranger Stop last year. Also AFO did get JDF for many years. Still, awesome to know that this convention got these guys to Orlando and they never been until now. We did get to learn a little more about the series in the interview and during a panel that took place when we got back to the con on Saturday and got to know about their own movie project. Stay tuned for that as well! And of course, we did attend a Dino Thunder commentary panel where we got to see their favorite epsodes and talk about the series and interesting enough, I did tell them about Linkara’s History of the Power Rangers since they never seen it. Now they know who he is.

Paul St. Peter was the last voice actor guest which made the convention an all round experience! Even though we didn’t get to interview him since it would be tough knowing what to ask him but able to do that during his voice acting panels. We attended his Villains of Paul St. Peter panel, VOicemaker panel, Pirate Curses, and Voice Performance and man they were awesome and interesting! With Pirate Curses, it was more about the history of pirates and how they came to be. He even was dressed in pirate garb and had the voice to fit! Oh yeah, he is not playing around! He even did a small contest where he handed sheets of paper with pirate curse sayings and some of them were pretty ridiculous when you hear them but more censored in what we tend to say today. If you see this panel in convention guide, I highly recommend it! Even keep tally if you were to make a drinking game out of it, which Gondras did and the tally was over 100! While the voice acting panels, on the other hand, were even more interesting because he was talking about the different ranges he uses, how he layers his voices like with Wormmon in Gigimon Adventure 2, and how to sound nasaly as well, he knows his stuff and how to do it well! He even had people volunteer to try out voice acting, as in doing villains and how to do advertisements and trailers by Sunday. Gondras did try it out since he does have theater experience during his high school days. I also highly recommend to go to Paul St. Peter’s voice acting panels if you’re interested in doing voice work. He also said that Todd Habercorn and Steve Blum do their own panels and of course, anyone who has been to a convention with Chris Sabat, he also does his own voice acting panels too! I would say if a voice actor do panels like these and you want to go into voice acting, go to any of these panels because it gives you pointers, trying it out, and feedback from the audience and the actor too. So glad panels like these exist and there should be more of them!

Verdict: Convention Accomplished! Yes, a third ACCOMPLISHED in a row! I almost thought about a COMPLETE due to how Friday was a bit dead but I can’t base it off of one day. I bet you’re wondering, why didn’t I go to CongjureCon? Well, I did hear that they offered free admission for Sunday but we didn’t want to leave Omni since they have been good to us and the very first convention to reach out to us for press. Plus, they also put in a good word for one of our interviews on top of it. Not only that, you can’t find voice acting panels as much at some of the other Orlando conventions nowadays and Paul St. Peter brought it and talked about it very well and we need more stuff like that since we do live in a place where Disney is around and of course a lot of studios are asking for new people. I hope Omni brings more pros like these even Steve Blum.

Needs for Improvement: Well, there were some things we did notice that need more work on and the first thing is of course more vendors. I did mention this in the MythiCon 2014 review that there weren’t many vendors that sold stuff and we seen it here. Plus, there weren’t many attendees browsing them either due to how less there are from the previous year. The main thing about a convention that a lot of attendees tend to go for is buying from vendors. I am not sure how many people went to Artist’s Alley but I think a lot were there. Still, there should be more vendors like last year and didn’t help with ConjureCon either since knowing them they may have had a vendor room too. Still, more vendors for next year.

Another thing is more security volunteers! Like Holiday Matsuri, there weren’t many volunteers on standby at the doors. I noticed it like Fox Warrior did and felt a bit weird since knowing when I did security for JACON 2009 and MegaCon 2009 that having volunteers for conventions are a big help even keeping people safe. I mean what if a mace spraying or even worse a fire broke out? People will panic and not know where to go and which exits to use if a volunteer is not there to help. I seen more volunteers at the past two Omni Expos but the lack this year kind of needs to be improved.

What I Want to See: New section! Knowing a lot of conventions like feedback in what attendees want to see for next year and since doing reviews on here would help show what I want to see as well!

Guests: I definitely want to see more voice actors appear since last year and the year before there were a lot of them. Like year one, there were a lot of variety of them ranging from Ellyn McLain from Portal to Team FourStar’s Big Three showing up. Then Year Two was all about Attack On Titan! This year, it did focus a bit more on cosplay and visual effects, but there is one more voice actor that should be brought and that is definitely Steve Blum. Why is that? Not only he is the major voice of our childhoods along with Scott McNeill but it would be awesome to see how he teaches voice acting since so many people teach differently. Chris Sabat shown it with his recording panels, Paul St. Peter did it this year with bringing different scripts to play with, I definitely want to see what Steve Blum brings!

More Open Discussion Panels: Why I am I mentioning this? Well, the thing was in the Sci-Fi room there were open discussions with people from NecroNomeCon and it was fun doing it. Of course we have the usual guest panels but having open discussions help with meeting other people and hearing their own convention experiences. Hell, even got to have fun with Doctor Who discussions. I did remember AFO 2012 having a ranting panel with how people are frustrated with certain things and I miss something like that where people talk about what they like, don’t like, and so on.

More Props and Vehicles: This year the vendor’s hall had the vehicles from Supernatural, Back to the Future, and Jurassic Park, along with props, they even had the Tardus two years in a row! That should expand a bit more and bring in the Ghostbusters mobile even since there is the reboot movie coming out and would be nice for next year.

Well, that is it for this review! So glad to do press for this convention for another year. They have been good to us and have been going through the sweat, blood, and tears to keep it going! I know the feeling, I write this blog as well and it can be hard. We did get to meet and interview great people and even had fun afterwards since we haven’t hung out with anyone after conventions end in many years. Heck, I still remember CiCi’s Pizzeria being our after convention spot and during convention spot for food. We need more of that! I am hoping 2017 brings another and that we get to do press again or even more stuff along with it.

What is next? The clips from Opening Ceremonies!

Three Most Dangerous Beauty Hacks That Caught My Curiosity!

Hello Shiquers and welcome back to Nerdy Shique Universe! Well, in the days of beauty we tend to see a lot of hacks but there are ones that are very dangerous to us since some things contain a lot more dangerous chemicals in the processes. There are three hacks I have seen that were mentioned in Allure’s Dangerous Hacks article I finally read in full. I did try to read it while killing time before Ranger Stop opened up for everyone but glad that I read it. The three hacks that got my attention were Oreo mascara, glowstick nail polish, and colored pencil eyeliners.

I know these three sound weird but some beauty gurus have used these things as beauty products and the items are very dangerous. Let me start off with the first…

Colored Pencils as Eyeliner: This one really surprised me but the truth is that the lovely colored pencils I used and still have a huge container of since my drawing days are dangerous for your eyes and not meant for makeup purposes. Even though it says “Non-Toxic” and someone did have a video about it and called Crayola’s hotline about it but the truth is that the materials in these products aren’t tested to be used for makeup. Even Crayola said the same thing to the person who made the video, which how she made it easy by dipping the colored pencil lead into hot water and just put it on your waterline and lower lashline and can use it for lipliner. In the Allure article had dermatologists and doctors talking about the effects and the pigments used in these pencils CAN blind you because of how foreign they are to the eye.

Better Off With… You’re better off just getting your favorite eyeliner from the drugstore or subscribing to beauty boxes because you are getting brands that go through the usual testing with makeup and the chemicals used to say “Hey! It’s good for cosmetic use!” Plus, another thing to use for eyeliner is taking your angled eyeliner brush or pencil brush and wet a teeny bit and dip it into eye shadow. Like many cosmetics, eye shadows are also tested the same way as a lot of other cosmetics are and even companies make their shadows in many ways to be safe to use. I would say just stick to drugstore, higher end if you can afford it, and subscription boxes for eye shadows for liners or liner pencils or gel ones as well.

Glowstick nail polish: Okay, this was an interesting thing I never thought that would pop up as a dangerous hack! As a convention goer, I admit I have gone to raves in the past and stock up on glowsticks from Dollar Tree and Party City before convention season starts. When I read about this, I had the reaction of, “No!” Why? The chemicals in these sticks are harmful even though I have heard people do crack them open to drain the liquid and place them into jars or use them as sprays which can stain. Not only that, The liquids can stain your hands, face and so on, which brings to the point why it’s dangerous to do this. The chemicals used in this not only don’t glow for long ince exposed; everyone in convention world knows that once you crack that glowstick it only glows for a short time unless you stay in the rave for hours on end. Plus, if it’s on the nail there are nail biters that are out there and that chemical can be injested and can also be rubbed at the eyes. So, this one hack that shouldn’t be tested nor made!

Better Off With… Wait until Halloween when vendors have Glow-in-the-Dark nail polishes and stock up once the sales happen if any bottles are left! What I mean is that you’re safer getting an actual nail polish brand that makes it with their chemicals over what the DIYs suggest which is take a glowstick, crack it and empty it, and add clear nail polish. I did see one video which some of the colors they painted didn’t come out as opaque either when the ones during Halloween a opaque due to the stuff they use. The brands I highly recommend with this are Sinful Colors and Fantasymakers with their Tombstone nail polishes. I have used these brands glow polishes whenever I do my nuclear nails, which I take the glow polish and paint it on first and put a black crackle polish over it to make it look like I have a nuclear reactor glowing on my nails when I go into dark places im;ess I have a black light available. Anyways, they are pretty opaque and go on pretty smoothly, I do recommend buying new bottles if any of them dry out after a year or two depending on how well the polish stays liquefied from the previous Halloween. Plus, these nail polishes will run from $1 to $2 depending on where you go, it might cost a bit more if you buy a set on EBay or Amazon. So, this hack shouldn’t be tested and just save the danger by getting the Halloween glow polish.

Oreo Mascara: Okay, this is one hack that got my kitty attention! I bet it got yours too because I never thought people would go nuts enough to take Oreos and mash them up to make a makeup product. I seen the videos actually and I think someone was going to make M&M eyeliner but I stopped right there because the thing is food is food. Of course there are foods that are used for beauty purposes in companies like Lush uses oatmeal, seaweed, and other delicious foods for their cosmetics and bath products and some other makeup brands do use grapeseed oil in many other products. This was interesting to say the least but dangerous as well. How so? Well, you’re crushing up oreos into crumbs and adding primer to the mix and then using alcohol to swab down your container after the procuess is made. Those crumbs do get into the eyes and can cause blindness. I bet it would go even worse with the M&M eyeliner with the hard sheels if you’re not careful. Plus, it does cost more than a usual tube of mascara to get the products you need on top of it. And almost forgot, Oreos are also processed and meant for eating and the ingredients to make them aren’t tested for cosmetic uses like Crayola products.

Better Off With… Like with the eyeliners, I say buy your mascaras at Ulta, Sephora, drugstores, WalMart, Target….the list does go on, or join BOxyCharm, Ipsy, Glossy Box…etc. Because that way you’re not wasting precious Oreos to blind yourself. Take it from me for being blind, it sucks being blind! Which means you have to figure out how to put on eyeliner and mascara differently if Hack Number One and this one blind you, even with a bad eye infection that can happen. You’re better off just getting mascaras from brands that are meant to use mascaras for eyes such as Maybelline, L’Oreal, and if you have extra cash to spare, Urban Decay and Benefit are two higherend alternatives if you want to go there. Once you get home with your lovely mascara tubes, you can sit and enjoy your favorite Oreos with a glass of milk.

Well, that is it for this post! I did enjoy reading about Allure talking about the worst beauty hacks out there, but the ones that brought my attention the most were the three I mentioned because I love painting my nails, wearing eyeliner and mascara even with cosplay. If you see some of these videos, don’t do the DIY behind it because you are putting yourself in harm’s way.

What is next for Nerdy Shique Universe? Omni Expo of course! Stay tuned!
