Music: Top Ten Songs of May 2017

Hello Shiquers and welcome back to Nerdy Shique Universe! Time for the top ten songs of May 2017! I feel like music should help me get over the deep MegaCon blues since now I have an urge to keep me from choosing the third option of statements to say like in Mass Effect. I rather not get into it but let’s see what I got this month!

10. “MST3K Theme Song”: Styarting this list off was a song that was supposed to be on the list last month! So, MST3K is now back all thanks to a kick starter to bring it back and that means the song is back! It is very catchy and this time with Felicia Day it makes it even more catchier with the cute little beat. Try having Gondras singing it most of the time and ends up in your head all the time. Still a great song!
9. “Gong” by JAM Project: Next is a song from the past and my days with THEE X and that is by JAM Project and the song is called “Gong.” How I got into JAM Project was all thanks to an anime called SoulTaker and they did the song for it which THEE X got me into them by not only giving me music by them but me looking for their stuff. One song in particular that was really epic was “Gong” which was used in Super Robot Wars if I remembered and it makes you hot blooded and does lift you up even with a gong being hit. What got me to listen to this song again is due to JAM Project being at Otakon this year and damn it! I want to do press and see them and cover it to post on the YouTube channel!
8. “Fire Escape” by Fastball: Lately, I’ve been on a ‘90s kick with music. This one song was one that I had fun singing and that is “Frie Escape” by Fastball. If this song sounds familiar well it did appear in Dawson’s Creek episode years ago when Fastball was popular or am I confusing it with Roswell, I forget! Still, I love this song more than the “Way” since it kind of had a better sound and better lyrics and it is one of those songs you can chill with and it deals with being oneself as its message. Man, I feel like I’m thirteen again when I had their album.
7. “Surrender” by Cheap Trick: I don’t get why I can’t get this song out of my head and that is “Surrender” by Cheap Trick! All thanks to Guardians Volume 2 having this in the credits I can’t get it out of my head! I even remembered them performing it live when me, Gondras, and two of our buddies caught them in town at a free show. Not only that it was also in Guitar Hero as a track. Still a good rock song and always an ear worm!
6. “Gravity” by Papa Roach: Okay, I had to mention this one because it has been on the radio almost everyday and that is “Gravity” by Papa Roach. Even though this song is from the albums that they had them change their sound but I do like the chorus. I still remember them from their “Last Resort” days but this almost goes back to those days even though it has more hip hop to it. When you look at it,they were more of hip hop with metal like Linkin Park was. Don’t worry, none of the new Linkin Park will be on any list!
5. “It’s All Been Done” by the Barenaked Ladies: I did say I was on a ‘90’s kick lately and this is another song on that kick and that is “It’s All Been Done” by the Barenaked Ladies! I had an interesting music taste as a teen and Barenaked Ladies was one of those bands I liked. Reason being is that they had a very unque sound and lyric choice. Try quoting the one line about Chinese chicken from “One Week” when I crave honey chicken. Anyways, this song, on the other hand, has been my fave for the longest time and always sticks with me to this day. Plus, I am wondering with that one line in the song “Will I cry, will I smile, while we run down the aisle?” towards me and Gondras even though now we are married in some of our friends’ eyes. Who knows if I will cry or smile when that day does come!
4. “Iris” by Goo Goo Dolls: Next is another important song from my start in pop/rock music in middle school is “Iris” by GooGoo Dolls. I loved this song and how cute it is due to how it is a love song. I even catch myself singing along when it comes up on I Heart Radio while in the shower. It does also have a beautiful violin and guitar sound to it too whiuch makes me want to listen to it over and over. If this was on Rock Band I would definitely sing it if the room wasn’t filled to the back ::laughs nervously::
3. “All My Best Friends Are Metalheads” by Less Than Jake: I blame Bennet the Sage for this entry! How so? Well, he reviewed the Digimon movie and this song was on the soundtrack and in the movie which is by Less Than Jake and it’s called “All My Best Friends Are Metal Heads!” It is playing when Matt and T. K. are riding on the back of motorcycle so they can get to the nearest computer in town to fight Diaboromon with Tai and Izzy. Paul St. Peter is still awesome at voicing the big bads in this movie and wonder if he uses that voice for any haunted houses. Still, this song has an awesome ska beat to it and would be fun to play it on the way to either Omni Expo or MetroCon in Tampa if we were to go back to do press.
2. “GITSUNE (“ by. BabyMetal: Next is a song by BabyMetal again and don’t want to try and spell it again, lol! Anyways, I love this song because it has an awesome metal beat to it and it kind of gives you a video game fighting song vibe too.
1. “The Violence” by Rise Against: My final entry on this month’s list and it is by Rise Against and it is their newest song “The Violence!” Yes, Rise Against made new music and can’t wait for the newest album either since I did love their Black Market album a lot! I did hear another great song from whatever they are releasing but I do love the lyrics in this song since it seems to paint our world right now even with all the violence taking place especially in Manchester, England recently. Plus, I do think this would make an awesome anime theme song due to the lyrics ask, “Are we Strong enoguh? Are we brave enough?” Doesn’t t shonen right there? Hope this will make it into Rock Band 4 since thiy do get the latest Rise Against stuff which the last tracks they had for three was from End Game with “Help Is On It’s Way.” Wouldn’t mind singing this one!

Well, that is it for May’s list! Let’s see what June holds for music! Make sure you’re following us on Twitter and Facebook for the latest updates!
