Books: White Fur by Jardine Libaire

Hello Shiquers and welcome back to Nerdy Shique Universe! It is time for another book review and it was a hard and long read for me. Here goes!

Title: White Fur
Author: Jardine Libaire

Disclaimer: This review is based on opinion and observation of the lead writer and producer of this blog. Please respect her thoughts and opinions and there might be spoilers.

Synopsis: A story set in the 1980’s where we meet two lovers who came from different backgrounds. Elise Perez is someone from the projects who didn’t have a father growing up and never graduated high school and ends up in New Haven where she meets Jamie Hyde, a Yale student and an heir to a family owned fortune and company and they end up as neighbors that turn into sexual obsession. When they move to Manhattan to live their lives together, Jamie’s family tries to intervene to show that Jamie should keep going with his family’s expectations of inheriting the business but he wants Elise. Even they have to fight for their lives after a crazy dinner party that throws them into a situation that makes life harder but their love stronger.

Thoughts: Man! This was a very long, hard, and strange read. I did like the description and when I read books from NetGalley, I am always honest in choosing the description option while requesting the book. When I read it, it was something I never expected and it felt different from the description since yes, I did see the sexual obsession between Elise and Jamie bubbling, yes, I saw Jamie’s family always expecting him to be like them but I did like how he said, “Screw it! I want Elise!” Which I can see why he wanted to give up everything to be with her rather than being the rich boy always following the rules and always having servants doting on his every command. He just wanted to be with her and I saw that throughout the book. What I didn’t like is that they seemed stiff, as in the characters Elise and Jamie were always the types that don’t want to be where they are at most of the time as in they didn’t want to be at this dinner party or they don’t want to be at a fancy restaurant and just want to eat in Central Park. Even at first when they started dating, they were kind of stiff in how they interacted, yes relationships do start kind of awkward but I felt that their personalities were lost in some moments.

Even though this book is supposed to be a slice-of-life book set in the 1980’s, I think it did show what it is like to live in new York at first since it did paint the time very well. As in, got to see that drugs are still there, how college life is different back then, even how arcades existed back then due to how Jamie and Elise hung out at one most of the time which we rarely see as we used to. Yes, we do have Daven Buster’s here in Orlando but we used to have Rocky’s Replay but they closed down and there used to be another arcade in one mall where Gondras enjoyed DDR but the nearest arcade you can get to is really inside movie theaters unless you have a hundred to spare at Daven for an entire night. Sorry! A little off track, the book also painted how life is not always glamorous as in not all families have to be like the Brady’s on t. v. and there are going to be times when you are going to face life and hardships and even have to make money to survive on rent and food most of the time. I would say this is more of that darker and grittier slice-of-life story that is different from the rest.

Rating: 3.5 Star Pawprints Out of 5! I almost gave this one a three but I think it gains the half point since it did give us the portrait that life can be hard and that being a rich boy or girl is not always everything. I think the characters could’ve been fleshed out a bit more but the scenery did give off that the characters can live through anything especially the real hardships at the end. If you are into something like this, take a read since you can find this on Amazon like a lot of the other titles I read.

Well, that is it for now! Hoping the next book is a bit lighthearted! Until next time!

Beauty: Project Pan 2017!

Hello Shiquers and welcome back to Nerdy Shique Universe! I decided to bring you a new post since I haven’t posted anything beauty related on here since I have started doing more reviews on other genres and my convention stuff. Today, I am bringing you a Project Pan!

What is Project Pan? I know some of you who might be new to the beauty world and the beauty stuff here, it is where some people take some of the makeup items in their collection and try to hit pan. It depends if they want to do it montly or yearly depending on what they want to do that project if they have it for so long.

My Project Pan: I was inspired by Beauty News who are two girls from Australia on YouTube and they are amazing in their news updates and they give it to you real and uncut. As in, they are very honest on what they want to buy and say it doesn’t look good, etc. I have been really watching the more honest people on YouTube. I notice how my stuff is not getting much love and I will be giving some love to my older stuff and try ot hit pan. I will try to incorporate into looks along the way while I use a lip product if it is in there for days on end! Let’s see what I have!

Mac Star Trek Warp Speed Ahead Lip Glass: The Lip Glass collectyion from Mac is easy to finish off since they sometimes don’t carry enough product in the tubes. I also do love re-applying once it wears down. The one I am trying to finish up is the Star Trek collection glass in Warp Speed Ahead. When I put it on the other day or so, noticed how it doesn’t have much and decided to finish it up. I have been wearing it and it is a nice limited edition color which is a deep purple color with shimmer. The Star Trek collection is a celestial type glimmer and this one, WWarp Speed Ahead, was the last one they had at the counter while going to it in Daytona and I did get one from the website since they put them on sale but still have tons of it. I am trying to finish up Warp since it feels like it will be done and hoping to get it done by my birthday so I can trade my stuff in to Mac since I have five items so far.

Almay Natural Smokes Trio in Hazel Eyes: I had this one in my collection forever and hardly touched it all! I have many other trios and well Almay got me into the shadow trio bits but I tend to get the bigger pallets if I can. The hazel trio is true to me since my eyes are considered as hazel despite how they look. Let me describe it! In the center near the pupil is like a golden color then it goes into a light green fading to a mid moss green and then to blue on the edges. There are times when my eyes do shift from gold to green then to blue or even a cerulean blue! People think GOndras and I look like siblings except our eye color is different since he has hazel eyes but they are more golden and mine are more blue-green. I do have the bold nudes trio for green eyes for my volunteer/work/interview friendly makeup looks but this one is normal looks. I will have to hit pan since it is in the old packaging and they did change the packaging to make it bigger and look like an eye to show how much should go where. I may get the smoke trio in green again. I will see later.

E. L. F. Disney Villains pallets in Malifisent, Evil Queen, and Cruella DeVille: I had these three eye shadow pallets from the Disney Villains collection that E. L. F. for the longest time and when I saw that I was hitting pan in one shadow in my Malifisent I knew it was time to hit the pan. These three are in my Project Pan to finally finish them up even though Evil and Mal (I know I am going with the Descendants names almost) were the hardest to find since people were buying them as presents for Christmas at the time. I hardly get any E. L. F. stuff as much as I used to since some stuff doesn’t make me want to run out and get it right away. I tend to get what I need like the double ended brow and lash gel for my professional kit since I love that thing to death! I also sometimes grab one or two items like a lip item or even the newly formulated mascara recently when I got the Shadow Lock primer which I threw out due to how dry it is…I am not kidding! (Don’t worry, I am using Painterly now!) I do like E. L. F. still and I love the brushes a lot! I do have a blush and few other items too in my makeup travel case for my daily makeup!

Revlon Eye Shadow +Primer Pallets in Advant Gard, Metropolitan, and Bohemian: These pallets are not as popular ever since they came out but I did like them despite the lack of popularity and they are the RRevlon pallets that have a shadow that acts like a primer and you do the usual dfiner, crease, and brow and top it off with the glitter top coat and I have these in Advant Gard, Metropolitan, and Bohemian, which this one is no longer available and it was my first one ever! People had problems with pigmentation but I did use primer with these still despite it not being necessary. The thing is with an actual primer is that it is MORE pigmented on it. I have used it with my Maybelline one, E. L. F., and even with my NYX one when I used to use it in the past. I am about to hit pan in the primer shades in Advant and Bohemian. I may buy these again if I can still find them and if not then oh well! Amazing while it lasted!

Milani Romantic Rose Blush: The last item for this one even though I may add more to it. Nd it is the Milani Rose blush in Romantic Rose! I noticed while using this for a while it was starting to go down in use. I do love this one but it is really hard to finish a blush even with how pigmented Milani makes their stuff! I still have the Baked Blush in Berry Amore and I do want to get more of their items but there are times when I don’t always go to the store and I don’t feel like getting any new items besides what I need. I am human people so there are times when I feel like that. I love these blushes and rosy colors do fit me most according to people and I thought I should try and finish this one up. Let’s see how it goes!

Well, that is it! I will try and finish these items as time goes on and will mix them time to time with other items to make it more easier on myself since I don’t wear the same thing everyday. I will update on Twitter if I have finished anything and will do one big update during the Bests and Worsts at the end of this year! So, follow us on Twitter @ Nerdy Shique if you can! Also tell your friends! So, will be finishing up a book soon, so stay tuned for that review!

Music: Top Ten Songs of July 2017!

Hello Shiquers and welcome back to Nerdy Shique Universe! It is time again for my Top Ten Songs and this time it is for July! This summer was all about listening to Electric Daisy Carnival music since I do admit I love rave sounding music with a good beat. Sorry Anime Sushi, I think EDC’s artists have you guys beat. Let’s see what I have for you all this month!

10. “Save A Little Love” by Don Diablo: First up is EDC’s 2017 artist known as Don Diablo! I never heard of this guy until I decided to see if anything was posted from Las Vegas’ EDC this year which was last month! I like the beats in this song when it came up when I saw Don Diablo’s set on YouTube and had to go and search for him! Not only I searched for him on YouTube but also did it on I Heart Radio too since they do have the EDC Radio and their artists on there. This song is just one of those feel good songs you can’t help with! I would even listen to this on the way to MetroCon next month if we were going.
9. “Alone” by Marshmallow: Another artist from EDC this year is known as Marshmallow and I found this one while ltryng to find more of his music when his performance video from Las Vegas was skipping and stumbled upon this one. This song felt like I was playing a video game rather than just sitting at my computer listening to it on YouTube! It has that really cute beat that you figured would be in one of those dating type games or a strategic video game like Disgaea for example. It does kind of remind me of music by Porter Robinson , which is another artist I like myself, but the beat is more uplifting! I have to listen to more of this guy’s music as time goes on!
8. “Forty-Five” by Shine Down: This song got into my head a couple of times and no I wasn’t reading Cold Days on loop since they mentioned this song in it and that is “Forty-Five” by Shine Down. I admit that this is a very pretty song since I do like the more slower stuff Shine Down does! I think they also performed this one during Carnival of Madness when they came through Orlando back in 2010. I am still remembering the sene from Cold Days where Harry and Mab did dance to an orchestraic version of this and it did make sense with Harry since he did just become the Winter Knight and they were celebrating his birthday.
7. “So I Thought” by Flyleaf: Next is another band with another pretty song and that is Flyleaf with “So I Thought.” This is from their first album before having the newer singer. I just love how the beat goes in this song and I do like the lyrics in how they sound in this. I would have this play at my wedding with Gondras. ::hears people pass out from sweetness overload:: There they go again!
6. “Back from the Dead” by Skillet: Even though I am just listening to this song and holy sh&t it should be on the list! Yeah, I have to listen to it for an entire month which I was going to put another Skillet song but while finding it on YouTUbe, I scroll down with JAWS and found that “Feeling Invincible” song which that was the first song they played to return with on the radio which I found this one and decided to click due to my curiosity. Oh man! The video starts off like a bit of a movie and then it goes into something that would fit in an actual zombie film! Well, the song does talk about zombies and I feel that if my zombie story was made into a movie this would be so my theme! How so? You have to read it and you may see why! Awesome song and deserves a slot after one and now two listens!
5. “This Will Be the Day” from RWBY: Oh yeah! RWBY is back on this list with the song that really got me into the series and its music and that is “This Will Be the Day” which is the opening song from Volume 1! You can tell I was in when I first heard this song because the riffs are so METAL! The other openings are pretty good but this is the song you would want to walk onstage with even in RWBY cosplay! (I did say I want to cosplay as Blake at some point, lol!)
4. “”Trails of Light” by Soul Switch: I bet you’re wondering, “Say what now!?” Well, my boys of Soul Switch released a new track and when I saw it on YouTube and saw the video I fell in love with the song! I was wondering if they performed it at the last show since we had to skip out due to Gondras not feeling well. There is always next time! With this song I kind of feel like it took me back to “Saving Me” since it fits in that realm of their song! Even the guitars took me back to that sound too! Awesome track yet again Tom and the boys!
3. “Crawling in the Dark” by Hoobastank: Yes, I know! Old school from the early 2000s no less! This song is what I loved about Hoobastank the most since not only they slightly sounded like Incubus but they were more hard sounding. I did like the first album and Gondras hasn’t given it back to me and not sure if he will since he did have a car accident. Anyways, this was an awesome song and loved it and when WJRR played it again, it got back into my head! Makes me wonder if they are still around. Hmmm!
2. “Apologize” by Silverstein: I bet you are wondering “Didn’t One Republic do this one?” They did but Silverstein covered it and it is awesome! I think I prefer this version over the original since there are times when bands do cover pop. I mean look at I Prevail doing “Blank Space” by Taylor Swift and they did that one better! The lead singer knows how to sing it and I feel like the lyric, either version, “It’s too late to apologize” describes a specific person that visited that brought me and my mom down for some reasons and don’t want to go into too much detail. Anyways, back to uplifting somewhat, I do like this version and hope other bands do more covers like these.
1. “Crawling” by Linkin Park: Well, this is my tribute to Chester Bennington is that I put “Crawling” by Linkin Park at Number 1! I was surprised that Chester died when I saw a tribute video by the blind gamer I like to see and that got me Google searching about it and well…Chester died but not only that by hiws on hands. We just lost Chris Cornell and now another great artist. Like many I was a fan of Linkin Park in high school, I even loved the Meteora album the most since I loved drawing while listening to it the most after it came out when I was Junior in high school. “Crawling” is one of my fave songs because it is a very well done music video it takes an interesting twist on special effects and that is what I like about their videos. Of course this will be here on the post and do want to end off the list by saying, Rest in Peace Chester! You brought the world awesome metal and hoping wherever you are will be rocking with you and Chris Cornell!

Well that is it for this list! I know it went from uplifting techno to somewhat emo! Wait, pretty emo. Well, I do have to say is that July was great when I hung out with Gondras and my friends including the girls but my brother visiting didn’t give us a great month since he did bring me and my mom down…as in “Who the f*ck is this guy!? And what did he do to my brother?” I am not joking!

Anyways, I know we haven’t brought anymore MegaCon stuff lately since I know Nerdy Shirts is probably busy somewhere in the Nerd Universe and he does run a channel with his brother which is Super Reaction Bros which you should check out and me and Gondras did appear for their E3 videos! So bear with us and hoping with August being my birthday month it will get better! Until next time!

Books: Our Only Chance by Ray Else

Hello Shiquers and welcome back to Nerdy Shique Universe! It is time for another book review!

Title: Our Only Chance
Author: Ray Else

Disclaimer: This review is based on observations of the opinions of the lead writer of this blog! Please respect her thoughts and opinions and there might be some spoilers ahead!

Synopsis: This book is about how A. I. can make themselves human which we get to meet Eina who is seen as a normal girl who loves to laugh, pray in temples, and other things but she is really an artificial intelligence created by MManaka Yagami, who is a genious scientist. With her human-like thoughts and experiences, Eina must create her own soul and human bodies without Manaka and the Yakuza even knowing.

Thoughts: All I have to say is that this book was very uplifting! I felt better after reading this book and despite my neck having a major crick earlier today, I still felt better reading it. I felt like I was reading the book version of A. I. but instead of having Haley Joel Osment, I was seeing our modern world doing it and seeing more of it being animated either by the person behind Digimon and Summer Wars or even Studio Ghibli. I did like the anime references in this book since it did take placein Kyoto and one part taking place in Tokyo, which this book was able to paint the picture of daily life in Japan. As in from being employed even in technology and robotics all the way to being a kindergarten assistant which Eina did in parts of the book. I did like how she got to explore Tokyo in cosplay with some of the workers and then her computer self went portable with another worker in Tokyo so it could explore what Android Eina was seeing except it was in a Pachinko Casino.

One character I can relate to is Manaka because we got to see how she was a university student at first and was always surrounded by technology and work which I know that feeling of being able to be surrounded by my phone, IPad, computer, and Braille device at home. What I did like was how she interacted with Eina the most like a mother would since she was known as “mother” due to how she created her in the start of the book. She was one of those motherly types who wanted to know what her daughter was up to since Eina had major plans and wanted to make them happen and even wondered about what love is and how it is from Manaka to Eina and back. I did feel bad about Manaka in how she lost not only her lover all thanks to her lover’s wife trying to kill her but things went downhill for him but also felt like she lost her daughter and her soul with it. I did notice that this book is supposed to be in the first of more to come since it did have “A. I. Chronicles” attached to it so it looks like there is a sequel being written and I did see some opened parts for one and if there is one I would like to see what happens next to Manaka and her relationship with Eina.

I did see one review talking about how this book should be a movie and I agree and I did say above it should be animated because I think it would be easier to do and they can do a lot in making Eina’s Android form more real looking. If it was dubbed I would see Luci Christian playing Eina since she can do little girls very welland can make her voice high. For Yuriko I can see Tara Platt or Colleen Clinkenbeard for that role. For Manaka, I would either see Christine Auten or even Mary Elizabeth McGlynn to play her since they can do the motherly roles very well. I even see R. Bruce Elliot as Manaka’s Professor Mentor and seen as the uncle towards Eina since he is supposed to be the older and wiser despite the events that take place.

Rating: 5 Star Pawprints Out of 5! I do agree with the earlier praises for this book that it is well written. I felt like I was there in the lab to witness Eina’s creation and seeing the feelings of every person in the room. I hope this does become a movie because I would love to see this on the big screen and with audio description.

That is it for this review! Since July is almost over, I do have my Top Ten Songs for this month! Stay tuned!

Also, a head’s up, reason I am mentioning Anime as a category with this one it does mention anime.

Books: Once in Lourd by Sharon Solwitz

Hello Shiquers and welcome back to Ne3rdy Shique Universe! It’s time for another book review and this book was a hard one to sit through and you will see why!

Title: Once in Lourd
Author: Sharon Solwitz

Disclaimer: This review is based on opinion and observation. Please respect the thoughts and feelings of the writer since this is a pretty honest review. There might be spoilers and if you don’t like the topics of what may be discussed there are other book reviews on this blog to check out.

Description: In this book, we meet four teens who are living in Lourd, Michigan during 1968 during the Vietnam War. They face many hardships in their own lives and decided to make a pledge to either take their lives on a bluff after two weeks or enter adulthood. These four, Vira, Kate, C. J., and Saint will live for each other until their own day comes and see how their lives changed and see how they either take a pledge to take their lives or decide to not do it in the end.

Thoughts: Oh man! This was a very hard read! I almost didn’t want to finish reading it but knowing this was set in a time in the past where things are different from what we are facing now in America I felt like I was standing in Kate’s shoes. Yes, there were heartfelt moments but other times there were times I wanted to close up Kindle and leave it alone and want to read something else, which I did at night with more of a lighthearted book (Accidentally Married to a Vampire, sorry!)

I admit I definitely relate to Kate the most because…well…recently I went through a day where my older brother got on me about dieting and if you guys have seen my videos I didn’t look fat since I did struggle with weight when I was younger and I did lose a lot of weight over time. My parents are diabetic and I do have a thyroid problem but here is the thing I have a different diet from most and I have to make sure I have Vitamin D incorporated into it to keep those levels up while making sure I don’t fall victim as well. My brother is in the military so he doesn’t know what I do on a daily basis or what I eat. With Kate, I know how it feels because I’ve been in the overweight blues even how her stepmother ripped her apart in the book at one point after she was at a tennis session and her stepmother got a call about her missing slime classes that she forced her to do. I admit I tried doing exercise videos and that didn’t help much in the past.I even remembered how I did have pints of ice cream everyday but did tone it down over years and same with other sweets and plus I rarely think about food unless I am hungry. Just hand me a bottle of water for the day and I am good until the next meal or snacktime.

I think Solwitz was pretty much painting the picture of what is like to ive in 1968 where not only you get to see old days of sports to seeing what people lived through differently such as able to smoke and drink while being younger even though fake IDs of course to having a different outlook on one part of your body being deformed, which Vira had a deformed hand and so many people thought it was sick and she didn’t like how people stared at her hand. Plus, we see how neighbors are different during this time where you hardly see people on the streets early in the morning like we do now in town at least. So yes, this book did paint the idea of how things were different and how being accepted for who you are or what sex you want in a relationship is way different from what is now. Heck, even incest was seen in this book but don’t want to touch on that since that was a bit weird.

Rating: 3 Star Pawprints Out of 5! I am being nice with this one since it did bring us a new idea of Historical Fiction but it was a hard read for me. I felt a little sad while reading this book and wishing I hadn’t clicked on “Request” at the same time. Still, if you are into something like this you can get it through Amazon as an EBook. So, read with caution just in case.

Well, that is about it! Hoping the next book is not as emo as this one and not as weird too. Until next time!

Books: The GIrl With the Red Balloon by. Katherine Locke

Hello Shiquers and welcome back to Nerdy Shique Universe! Time for another book review since I finished another book!

Title: Girl With the Red Ballon
Author: Katherine Locke

Disclaimer: This review is based on observations and opinions of the lead writer. Please respect her thoguhts and opinions of the book and there might be spoilers!

Synopsis: Ellie Born, a sixteen year-old girl, goes on a class trip to Berlin and ends up time traveling to 1980s Berline all thanks to a red balloon. When new buddies thought her trip was an accidental trip, they find out that someone might be tampering with the ballons and using a darker magic in order to change history since the ballons are meant to travel through time with magic. Will she ever get home or will she be stuck in the Berlin that takes place before the wall falls?

Thoughts: This book gave me a bit of Doctor Who vibes while I was reading it since I did find the description very interesting and I had to request it on Net Galley.

This book not only takes a look at Berlin in the past but also told the story behind her grandfather and how he knew about a girl with a red ballon and he did tell her about meeting a girl that saved his life during World War II when he and his family got sent to a ghetto which is hard for Siri to pronounce and then loses his sister to pneumonia and his father out of nowhere. He gets rescued before heading off to a concentration camp like his mom after a train ride. It is interesting to see that aspect of the story because it does link to what happens later and who is trying to go back in time to fix what had happened.

I did find it interesting that the red ballons are a way of time travel and it is like what if the Doctor were to use a ballon for a story or something, like if he was separated from the Tardus all thanks to it or if Missy used one to survive, etc. That would make an interesting plot or fan fiction. I did hear “99 Red Balloons” while I was reading this book too since that is supposed to talk about the end of the world and this book did talk about ending bad history which was World War II and helping people that didn’t get saved and changing it to be a better future but it did explain that is why the ballons were tempered.

I did like how Locke did mention in her Author’s Note that she loved Madeline L’Englle’s writing and how it inspired her to do this book and I did read some books like Camilla, Moonlight by Night, and my all time fave by L’Engle, A Ring of Endless Light which Disney did a movie for TV but it wasn’t as great as a book in my opinion. Maybe I should do a list of book movies that should be remade. Still, I think this book was really well written and I did like how the past being told to the 1988 Berlin linked up and how it does show how magic works in this setting and it does show how it shouldn’t be tampered with.

Rating: 5 Star Pawprints of 5! This book was a very well written piece and I am glad I did see it on the main page one day and decided to hit the “Request” button after reading the description. I am very honest in picking my books because as a writer myself the description does catch the eye and this book did it. I liked the characters especially Mitsy who is a lesbian character that is very sisterly towards Ellie even though I did catch moments how Mitsy does fall for Ellie and gets jealous when Kai is around her. I do like how she learns how to be brave all thanks to Ellie because she was scared of showing her teal hair and scared to be caught being a runner for the balloons all over Berlin since this is when the Berlin Wall is up and you have to follow certain rules, etc. Mitsy does become braver after being around Ellie and does shed the terror by the end and takes off the hat to show off her teal blue hair to say, “F*ck it! I am different and I don’t care!”

I did like the relationship between Kai and Ellie which it does start off a bit awkward even with a girl from the 2000s being in your time and it does grow with her being in the time for six months and it is cute how the both of them interact. Not only that, I do like how both were able to work on the mystery behind the balloons and how they were working with Kai’s sister to get through the mystery that was going on and I liked it especially with how they solved it and ended it. Still a great book and I wonder how Ellie was able to get back fine with her balloon which I have a feeling she did.

Well, that is it for this book review! I have a new post to right and that is the books with movies that should be re-done, I think I should watch the Hunger Games since I loved those books to see if those should have been re-done. Maybe? Don’t know! I will get that list to you guys! Until next time!

TV: Doctor Who Season 10!

Hello Shiquers and welcome back to Nerdy Shique Universe! Today was the last episode of Doctor Who Season 10! Oh man and here are my thoughts!

Disclaimer: This review is bbased on observations and opinions of the lead writer! Please respect her thoughts and opinions! Spoilers ahead too!

Oh man! Oh man! This season was the strongest season for Capaldi because last season was weak! I didn’t do a review on it because I missed two episodes and didn’t pay attention to it as much as I did with this one and Season 8 along with the Christmas specials! I was bummed after seeing Clara resurrected when we all know that companions die and they tend to die epic deaths and hardly come back. Nope! Even though this was a death that led to him meeting with river again in the second Christmas special and that was when they took a year off before the next one including a new season. I think taking that year to make the new season was a good idea. I know it threw off a season each year but after the last season…yeah it needed work and glad it was worked on, especially when the news dropped about Peter Jackson being in for an episode or two. When I heard about it, I was like, “Okay! Dude who did the Lord of the Rings movies is joining the team! This will be interesting!”

So, the Doctor is a university professor in this one teaching Physics and does make sense since time travel does have to rely on Physics and then we see the new companion, Bill Potts, walk in to listen to his lectures and after the first meeting things start going weird. Such as seeing puddles coming alive to having a house killing your roommates after moving in and of course the adventures to Mars to meet a classic Who creature and meeting GRman soldiers and ancient Celts who are afraid of a demon that they had to fight for all time.

Nerdy Shirts explained that Bill was a call back to one of the classic doctors but I did like her as a companion. Too bad she was only in for this season since most companions are around for one or two. Her character shown her to be inquisitive and asking about the many creatures that they encountered and of course does get into trouble in some points, especially when the Monks appeared in this season where it does show how she really cares for the Doctor despite being a lesbian. Yes, she makes it clear in one episode she doesn’t like men. I’m cool with it and it made it different from the Clara and Danny story from season 8. I did like in the last Christmas special that she was hinted as a doll that the kid had at the end. The ending for for Bill, in my book, was better than Clara’s actually even though it dealt with the Cybermen again in the end of this season but better in a way. Gondras and I were surprised that she was turned into one which GOndras did say, “Now they are turning everyone into one?” Which he talked about Season 8’s ending where the Brigadeer and Danny were turned into them but I would say how they did it this time was calling back to the classic design according to Gondras. I haven’t really seen enough classic Who but he has told me enough about it that which brings me to…

One of the episodes featured another classic creature from Doctor Who and it’s the Martian Men who are lizard creatures that sound human but have more of a growl to their voice. The episode has the Doctor go to Mars and meet British soldiers that have saved one of these creatures and he assimilated himself to them until the Martian Queen comes alive. Apparently, they were dormant and appeared to be extinct even though there was an episode of Smith where a Martian Man was in a submarine with him Rowry and Amy. I do find it interesting how they put a piece of British history on Mars as a way of them colonizing it and made it seem more “dead.” Hmmm, foreshadowing much Doctor Who with humans colonizing Mars?

The Return of Missy: We did get to see Missy again in this season since she did show up at the start of Season 9 and was only around for two episodes dealing with Davras and the Dahlics. In this one was a bit more interesting because she ends up in a vault inside the Tardus. Even though the Doctor wants to be friends again with Missy but you know how she always like to turn her back due to her Master side and yes it is cute how they work with each other until the season finale when we get to meet a Master from the past! The one that appeared in the tenth’s run! Oh yes! Double the Master, Double the fun! You never thought that would happen especially with how he asks Missy about becoming a woman which when Missy first appeared in Season 8, I wasn’t expecting her to be the Master but they did play it low. I wonder what will happen next with the Master now since it looked like the old and Missy vanished in the finale but it was fun seeing a female version of the Master!

Regeneration? Throughout this season, it felt like we were almost seeing the end of Capaldi’s doctor since this was his last season. At first in some of the last few episodes it felt like he was going to sacrifice himself. But the non-human companion with Bill and the Doctor was worrying about him as well in how he was acting reckless throughout the episodes. I can see how he was really reckless especially the space episode where the satellite was acting like a business in space where he ends up blind after handing Bill his helmet. I did like that tidnbi and would’ve love to see more episodes with that since that could be a weakness that Missy could play with or any other villain but nope, Bill did help get his sight back all thanks to the Monks. It felt too quick but would be a great story unless it was told as a story in a book.

Do we get to meet the next version? Well…I would say wait until the Christmas special if you haven’t caught this one, I would download it from ITunes if you can. I can’t wait what will happen during the Christmas special since Gondras did do a text message description for me that the next doctor looks like William Hartnell and we will see how that will take place during the special. Besides Holiday Matsuri, can’t wait for Christmas!

Rating: 5 Out of 5 Star Pawprints: Yes! I give this one a five because it was stronger than the last season! They did have a good choice in using Peter Jackson during this season but saved him towards the end from what we have seen. I did like Bill and too bad this was her only season. I can’t wait what to see with the next doctor once the new season happens probably next year. Hoping so or take another year off since it did help develop the story a lot better and make it strong!

Well, that is it for this review! I decided to base it on thoughts alone since that would be easier! Let’s see if Season 11 will be strong whenever it comes back on BBC!
