Hello Shiquers and welcome back to Nerdy Shique Universe! It is time again for my Top Ten Songs and this time it is for July! This summer was all about listening to Electric Daisy Carnival music since I do admit I love rave sounding music with a good beat. Sorry Anime Sushi, I think EDC’s artists have you guys beat. Let’s see what I have for you all this month!
10. “Save A Little Love” by Don Diablo: First up is EDC’s 2017 artist known as Don Diablo! I never heard of this guy until I decided to see if anything was posted from Las Vegas’ EDC this year which was last month! I like the beats in this song when it came up when I saw Don Diablo’s set on YouTube and had to go and search for him! Not only I searched for him on YouTube but also did it on I Heart Radio too since they do have the EDC Radio and their artists on there. This song is just one of those feel good songs you can’t help with! I would even listen to this on the way to MetroCon next month if we were going.
9. “Alone” by Marshmallow: Another artist from EDC this year is known as Marshmallow and I found this one while ltryng to find more of his music when his performance video from Las Vegas was skipping and stumbled upon this one. This song felt like I was playing a video game rather than just sitting at my computer listening to it on YouTube! It has that really cute beat that you figured would be in one of those dating type games or a strategic video game like Disgaea for example. It does kind of remind me of music by Porter Robinson , which is another artist I like myself, but the beat is more uplifting! I have to listen to more of this guy’s music as time goes on!
8. “Forty-Five” by Shine Down: This song got into my head a couple of times and no I wasn’t reading Cold Days on loop since they mentioned this song in it and that is “Forty-Five” by Shine Down. I admit that this is a very pretty song since I do like the more slower stuff Shine Down does! I think they also performed this one during Carnival of Madness when they came through Orlando back in 2010. I am still remembering the sene from Cold Days where Harry and Mab did dance to an orchestraic version of this and it did make sense with Harry since he did just become the Winter Knight and they were celebrating his birthday.
7. “So I Thought” by Flyleaf: Next is another band with another pretty song and that is Flyleaf with “So I Thought.” This is from their first album before having the newer singer. I just love how the beat goes in this song and I do like the lyrics in how they sound in this. I would have this play at my wedding with Gondras. ::hears people pass out from sweetness overload:: There they go again!
6. “Back from the Dead” by Skillet: Even though I am just listening to this song and holy sh&t it should be on the list! Yeah, I have to listen to it for an entire month which I was going to put another Skillet song but while finding it on YouTUbe, I scroll down with JAWS and found that “Feeling Invincible” song which that was the first song they played to return with on the radio which I found this one and decided to click due to my curiosity. Oh man! The video starts off like a bit of a movie and then it goes into something that would fit in an actual zombie film! Well, the song does talk about zombies and I feel that if my zombie story was made into a movie this would be so my theme! How so? You have to read it and you may see why! Awesome song and deserves a slot after one and now two listens!
5. “This Will Be the Day” from RWBY: Oh yeah! RWBY is back on this list with the song that really got me into the series and its music and that is “This Will Be the Day” which is the opening song from Volume 1! You can tell I was in when I first heard this song because the riffs are so METAL! The other openings are pretty good but this is the song you would want to walk onstage with even in RWBY cosplay! (I did say I want to cosplay as Blake at some point, lol!)
4. “”Trails of Light” by Soul Switch: I bet you’re wondering, “Say what now!?” Well, my boys of Soul Switch released a new track and when I saw it on YouTube and saw the video I fell in love with the song! I was wondering if they performed it at the last show since we had to skip out due to Gondras not feeling well. There is always next time! With this song I kind of feel like it took me back to “Saving Me” since it fits in that realm of their song! Even the guitars took me back to that sound too! Awesome track yet again Tom and the boys!
3. “Crawling in the Dark” by Hoobastank: Yes, I know! Old school from the early 2000s no less! This song is what I loved about Hoobastank the most since not only they slightly sounded like Incubus but they were more hard sounding. I did like the first album and Gondras hasn’t given it back to me and not sure if he will since he did have a car accident. Anyways, this was an awesome song and loved it and when WJRR played it again, it got back into my head! Makes me wonder if they are still around. Hmmm!
2. “Apologize” by Silverstein: I bet you are wondering “Didn’t One Republic do this one?” They did but Silverstein covered it and it is awesome! I think I prefer this version over the original since there are times when bands do cover pop. I mean look at I Prevail doing “Blank Space” by Taylor Swift and they did that one better! The lead singer knows how to sing it and I feel like the lyric, either version, “It’s too late to apologize” describes a specific person that visited that brought me and my mom down for some reasons and don’t want to go into too much detail. Anyways, back to uplifting somewhat, I do like this version and hope other bands do more covers like these.
1. “Crawling” by Linkin Park: Well, this is my tribute to Chester Bennington is that I put “Crawling” by Linkin Park at Number 1! I was surprised that Chester died when I saw a tribute video by the blind gamer I like to see and that got me Google searching about it and well…Chester died but not only that by hiws on hands. We just lost Chris Cornell and now another great artist. Like many I was a fan of Linkin Park in high school, I even loved the Meteora album the most since I loved drawing while listening to it the most after it came out when I was Junior in high school. “Crawling” is one of my fave songs because it is a very well done music video it takes an interesting twist on special effects and that is what I like about their videos. Of course this will be here on the post and do want to end off the list by saying, Rest in Peace Chester! You brought the world awesome metal and hoping wherever you are will be rocking with you and Chris Cornell!
Well that is it for this list! I know it went from uplifting techno to somewhat emo! Wait, pretty emo. Well, I do have to say is that July was great when I hung out with Gondras and my friends including the girls but my brother visiting didn’t give us a great month since he did bring me and my mom down…as in “Who the f*ck is this guy!? And what did he do to my brother?” I am not joking!
Anyways, I know we haven’t brought anymore MegaCon stuff lately since I know Nerdy Shirts is probably busy somewhere in the Nerd Universe and he does run a channel with his brother which is Super Reaction Bros which you should check out and me and Gondras did appear for their E3 videos! So bear with us and hoping with August being my birthday month it will get better! Until next time!
