Beauty: Coastal Scents Revealed 2 Look!

Hello Shiquers and welcome back to Nerdy Shique Universe! Time for another look in my Coastal Scents Look Series!

Revealed 2!

Another Revealed pallet since so far I have done Smoky, Matte, and 3 and now it’s time for 2! I got this pallet through BoxyCharm when I used to be subscribed and it’s apparently a bestselling pallet on Coastal Scents! This is supposed to be like the Naked 2 pallet by Urban Decay and I can see why since it does have the slightly smoky bits to it. I do love this pallet and glad to pull it out again. I did use my Spoon highlight from Colour Pop and lovin’ it!

Since this video went up, I did fill out the press form for Anime Festival Orlando 2018 and hoping to get it this year because after 2015 it is time to re-build that bridge and reach out since I did say after Omni that I have confidence again in getting more press opportunities. I’m still trying to reach out to Ranger Stop since we did interview Power Ranger voice actor alum Derek Steven Prince and two of the Dino Thunder Rangers in the past, I would like to interview more Power Ranger guests since we are fans of the series itself. 2018 is all about expanding so keeping our fingers crossed, sent our Press Kit even to show that we have been at this for a long while. So, wish us luck everyone!

That is it for this post! I hope you all who celebrate it a Happy Easter and enjoy all the food and desserts and even making makeup looks based on the holiday colors, which I will be and it will be on Instagram, and stay tuned for any book reviews, hoping more Omni coverage, and next weekend will be the last two Revealed Looks with Revealed 1 and colors from all five!

Beauty: Coastal Scents Revealed 3 Look!

Hello Shiquers and welcome back to Nerdy Shique Universe and I’m back with another Coastal Scents look!

Revealed 3!

Now to continue my Revealed Look series and it’s with the Revealed 3 pallet! I am so sorry for not getting this up on Sunday because my camera decided to record a minute videos somehow. I hate it when this happens because it did happen before and it caused me to use my Android tablet’s camera but that only records ten to fifteen minutes at a time which kind of sucks. That is why I rather use the IPhone camera since it records more than that and only does it on a good day. I hope Samsung fixes that recording issue since there are times where people love to use the camera to record things. Anyways, another thing is that in my original look I tried using a Bare Minerals bronzer that Gondras’ mom gave me during Omni and well it turned up super dark on my face and my mom noticed. I had to toss it and I was warned it was going to do that. Bare Minerals, if you make a warm bronzer it is not that dark for the shade warm, just saying. I did use my Physician’s Formula Butter Bronzer in Light along with the Milani Blush in Berry Amore in this one. I almost used Spoon from Colour Pop but realized I already had a highlight I wanted to use and that was Boozy Brunch from Wet N Wild so I will be using Spoon with my Revealed 2 look tomorrow. So stay tuned for that one!

That’s it for this look and stay tuned for Revealed 2! And news about the Omni coverage, I am still waiting for the videos to be uploaded since Gondras still has them. I did text him this morning because it’s almost April. Sorry about that guys I am working on it. So stay tuned and follow us on Twitter!

Books: Ballad of Huck & Miguel by. Tim Deroche

Hello Shiquers and welcome back to Nerdy Shique Universe! Guess what? I finished another book and decided to read something out of order.

Title: The Ballad of Huck & Miguel
Author: Tim DeRoche

Disclaimer: This review is based on thoughts and opinion of the lead writer of this blog! Please respect what she says about this book!

Description: In this re-telling of The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, we see young Huck being placed into our modern world in this spin from Deroche. He gets chased by his psychotic father, Pap, after meeting an illegal Mexican immigrant by the name of Miguel and have to travel down a river through rainy and calm nights in order to dodge his father and anyone who thinks Miguel is accused of murder when he’s not. These two have to survive the the trip so Miguel could be free and form a bond along the way.

Thoughts: I admit I never read the original Adventures of Huckleberry Finn but I remembered the classic characters of Tom and Huck that Mark Twain had created all those years ago. I still remember from middle school where I had to see a video where a girl skipped a class and had to watch a scene with a Mark Twain actor and a scene of Huck and Tom to guess the different vocab terms that went with Twain’s stuff, even Onomatopoeia as an example. I still remember Hey Arnold! With that spelling bee.

I did like this book a lot since it gave Huck Finn a modern twist and made it more interesting in how it was written. I did find it entertaining how Deroche wrote the book in Huck’s words as in jumbled spelling and misspelled since it shown that he was a boy out of school traveling with his dad across the U. S. to get to California.

What did I love about the book was how Huck and Miguel have traveled along the river in order to be free. I knew they would be great friends at first when Huck was brought to Mrs. Watson’s place and how’d he preferred to be around Miguel over the two women even when he was taking care of Carolina with Miguel. I did find how they saved each other, Miguel saving Huck from his dad at first and keeping him protected during the other times they were found by Mr. Finn, and how Huck had to get the anti-venom to help Miguel when he got bitten by a rattlesnake when it was found inside a blanket on their raft. It shows how much their bond has not only gotten stronger but shown that they can’t be separated. Heck, especially when Tom Sawyer was added in again the friendship still blossomed between Tom and Huck. I wished there were more of Tom since Mark Twain always paired them up together in a lot of adventures. Who knows, maybe a sequel in the works to show the newer adventures of Huck and Tom since it is set in modern times and who knows what kinds of things they could get into in this kind of era?

Rating: 5 Star Paw Prints Out of 5! This modern re-telling kept the spirit of the original Adventures of Huckleberry Finn that twain had told and can see how people still loved it to this day. Knowing when people were to read this book they would still feel that same free spirit that Huck had felt during his time traveling even with Miguel. Now hoping to see a sequel to have Tom more in the story since we got to see how Huck got to Los Angeles and to see what else can happen to the two. Apparently, there is going to be a movie version of this book and I can’t wait to see how it gets portrayed with this kind of telling. Still a great book and it gets my “Star Paw Print of Approval!”

Well, that is it for this review! I will include a link to the book for you guys to check out and I do recommend as a great read! I am reading more of The Ballad of Huck & Miguel on AmazonSiege Line so stay tuned for that review! Until next time!

Beauty: Look with the Coastal Scents Revealed Smoky Pallet!

Hello Shiquers and welcome back to Nerdy Shique Universe! Time for another look from the Coastal Scents series!

Revealed Smoky!

So, next in the Revealed pallets is the Revealed Smoky from Coastal Scents! This pallet is a dupe for the Urban Decay Naked Smoky which was discontinued a year ago, which was a sad time for all of us Naked lovers. Apparently there weren’t enough sales for Naked Smoky over time so it was discontinued. I still have mine and this one which unlike Naked Smoky it has twenty shades to choose from and the shades do blend very well. Some people found it is not as pigmented as the others which to me it did come out pretty pigmented and did enjoy it. I got mine through BoxyCharm when they had it in the January 2016 box where they did nothing but eyes that month like with Ipsy and this was a great treasure to have. I did use the Milani Romantic Rose blush since I love rosy blushes with a smoky look, the Lilac to Reality highlight that Wet N Wild released last spring, and my Makeup Revolution Bronzer that is meant for light-medium skin types.

Stay tuned for my look with Revealed 3 coming up tomorrow where I get to play with some purple tones! Make sure you follow us on Twitter @ Nerdy Shique for all of the latest updates!

Beauty: Coastal Scents Revealed Matte Look!

Hello Shiquers and welcome back to Nerdy Shique universe! Don’t worry, the press coverage is coming soon, well the rest of it so stay tuned. I wanted to come on here to give you a new video!

Coastal Scents Revealed Pallet Series! Look 1: Revealed Matte!

So, I decided to start a new look series over on the Nerdy Shique Universe Channel and wanted to start posting the videos here too so you guys can see them. I started with Too Faced over there with the Chocolate Bar pallets and then did one look with colors from all three pallets. This time I’m doing it with the Revealed pallets from Coastal Scents in the same idea but starting backwards. I started with the Revealed Matte pallet since I just received it in the mail this past week and combined it with the Ten Blush 2 Pallet since that was also on sale last week.

I felt that Coastal Scents hasn’t gotten much love on YouTube and this series will get it back up since they are a pretty good brand and very affordable. They even have really good discount sales and you can also get them on Amazon like I did with the Brush Vanity Affair 22 Brush set I have been wanting for three years. Anyways, I’m also an affiliate with them and you can find my link on the Affiliate Links page here and it’s just the letter “R” which I find it funny that ended up like that on the page. I would say check it out and I do get 7% commission if you use my link. You can find the products I used from Coastal Scents in the description box on YouTube when clicking, “View on YouTube.”

Well, that is it for this post! Next makeup look is the Revealed Smoky which I received through BoxyCharm a few years back. Also follow us on Twitter @ Nerdy Shique for our press coverage updates! Until next time!

Beauty: Beauty Habits Tag!

Hello Shiquers and welcome back to Nerdy Shique Universe! Since I’m waiting for the other videos to be uploaded to our YouTube channel, I thought I should do something fun in the meantime and that is another tag post!

Tag: Make Up Habits!

So, as a makeup lover, there are times when you have those habits when it comes to wearing it and putting it on and this tag was started by Danielle Schmidt and Shannon Bidgood tagged Nicki Murphy and I watched her video which had me inspired to do my own! Let’s see what I have to say!

1. How often do you wear a full face of makeup? Hmm! I hardly wear a full face unless I want to experiment, making a beauty video over on the Nerdy Shique Universe YouTube, now I have been wearing more neutral looks for my Customer Service Training classes since I have been doing it for the past two weeks and going back on Monday, so it’s now everyday but if I wasn’t doing the training just once in a while.
2. Is your look more neutral or colorful? Most of the time it’s more neutral because it’s my comfort zone and it looks nice with my eyes. I don’t mind playing with color since I have my Ulta makeup sets and play around with some of the colors in that, also my Unicorn Blood and Midnight Unicorn pallets, heck even my Gwen Stefani pallet. Of course I have used the Naked Heat pallet and had fun with that too. Most of the time it’s neutral.
3. How long does it take for your full makeup to do? Tends to be forty-five minutes to an hour because I have to make sure my eyes aren’t crazy with smudges all over the place. I remembered having brown shadow on my nose by accident and went to WalMart to run errands and people glared at my fiancé and didn’t know why and he saw the smudge on the nose. That is why I have to be extra careful!
4. Do you apply eye foundation before or after eye shadow? Before! I found it easier to do it before my eye shadow since of course fall out and it can be messy depending on the shadow I use. Plus the cleanup with my baby wipes is easier with doing it after shadow.
5. What are your bad makeup habits you can’t stop doing? It’s hard to say! I would say napping with makeup on, I am guilty of doing that but nowadays I make sure I clean it off if I need a cat nap after a long day of something. Also, tugging on the corners of my eyes, mostly my right eye, to apply my crease and lid shades! There are times when my right eye can be the lazy eye while my left is the twitchy one and I am not sure is due to how my eyes aren’t used to being pulled on, even the doctors have hard times putting the eye drops in when I go to my big appointment in South Florida. Putting eye shadow can be challenging time to time and I have to keep my right eye from being so lazy and have to pull it to make it easier to get my transition and crease shades sometimes, heck it’s mostly the lid shade.
6. Do you use beauty influencers’ techniques or your own? It’s mostly my own because as a blind person I can’t see myself in the mirror and knowing where to place a shadow or blush I have to make sure that I get it just right and knowing where to go by feeling until I memorize it by heart becomes easier over time. With brushes, my technique by the way, is to feel the feral and bristles in how wide they are to know which one is which if I have it in my brush collection or in a set I picked up from Amazon or a different company. I do admit I used Molly Perk’s way of doing her eyebrows which I thought it didn’t work out for me but I used it again with my NYX brow pomade yesterday and that is to go from the tail end of your brow to the start of it and it worked out a bit better for the pomade since there are times brows can be a miss or can go on heavy. I will make sure to remember her technique if I’m in a pickle. If you don’t know who Molly is, she is an awesome YouTuber who has my eye condition, Retinitis Pigmentosa, and she went blind in her teens while I went blind in my twenties. I suggest checking her out in how she lives her life as a blind person.
7. What is the one step that takes you the longest to do? You already know and if you have seen my beauty videos and that is the eye! That is why my And That’s Jacob Tutorial video took an hour to do since there was a ton of steps to do but most of the time it is my eye entire eye step! Brows I tend to be quick, face not too bad, eyes almost thirty minutes depending on the day and pallet I’m using! I think the quickest pallets for me have to be the Wet N Wild trios but that can take me twenty minutes.
8. This is a two parter! First is what step you can skip? Brows because my brows are so perfect! They were bushy almost every time and always had to get them waxed but when I have my own tweezers that is when I do my own and I prefer it that way too. People do complement me on my brows and how well they are put together even without the brow gel and pomade, even powder if I used the Ulta sets. Second is what one step you can’t do without is? I would say eye shadow even if it takes me almost an hour to do because I feel naked sometimes if I just do eyeliner!
9. What makeup look is out of your comfort zone? Oh man! Hmmm I would say sometimes the really out there colorful looks! I do try them out time to time if I need to do something like a cosplay look or just wanted to have fun, they can be a bit out there. I do admit when I did my RWBY inspired looks I went a bit out of my comfort zone and even my Digimon character I added pink and silver, so yeah colorful looks are a little bit out there and don’t have to be afraid of them all the time.
10. Do you wear matte, glossy, or cream lipsticks? I wear all three actually! There are times where I switch it up and I tend to carry a gloss in my makeup bag if I want to switch it to that some days or put it on top of whatever matte lipstick I wear while with cream ones I tend to wear either a liquid lip or the MAC Cream Sheens.
11. If you could only wear one shade of lipstick what would it be? I would say either Cream Cup or Ruby Wu from MAC because those two colors fit me a lot.
12. Do you highlight or contour? Yes on both because I started doing my contour recently since I asked Vivi for some pointers and then to do my cheek bones with my bronzer and blend the edges with my blush and then highlight after blush. I tend to use a lot of golden highlights while other times if it was cosplay then I would use Sweet Visions from MAC for FlutterShy for example or the Mosaic looking one from NYX.
13. What is the one step that makes you feel complete? I would say setting spray since I started to use it now. I never thought setting sprays would be such a great completion to makeup until I started really using it. I’m using the Demi Matte one from NYX since my skin is dry and sensitive and it’s working out pretty well.
That is it for this tag post! I had fun doing it since it’s been a bit since the last tag I done and that was the Baby Bat Days one thanks to Vivi. Speaking of which, the person I want to tag is Vivi to do this one since I think it would be a nice idea for her channel.

What is next for Nerdy Shique Universe? We’re starting to put up more of the videos onto our channel from Omni Fandom Expo so stay tuned!

Interviews: No Ordinary Balloon Man and Shadow Scythe Studios from Omni Fandom Expo 2018!

Hello Shiquers and welcome back to Nerdy SHique Universe! Now to continue with our press coverage from Omni Fandom Expo!

Interview with Bruce Carr and Evan Benardi!

So, this year had a new person to interview or two new people and they are Bruce Carr, also known as the No Ordinary Balloon Man, and Evan from Shadow Scythe Studios. If you haven’t been to Omni, Bruce was known for the Colossal Titan from Attack on Titan during the first year of Omni in 2014 when he attacked the Matthew Mercer and Kyle Hebert panel. That is the most impressive feat when it came to balloon making! The year after he made Armored Titan for the Cast Panel in 2015 which you can still catch that video on our channel and it is our most viewed to this day. We got to interview him and Evan this year since we wanted to show his work to you guys! He and Evan are examples when it comes to doing anything with a disability.

So enjoy the interview and make sure you check out Bruce’s stuff all over social media with No Ordinary Balloon Man and if you want to have him anywhere at events and conventions, get in contact with him! : Cough: holidaymatsuri::cough: Which I did suggest Lighthouse have him at their walk for next year. Forgot to mention, he does sing anything you request! We all sang the “Pokémon Theme” even during one of his panels.

Anyways, stay tuned for everything else from Omni Fandom Expo and enjoy our interview! Until next time!

Conventions: Omni Fandom Expo 2018: The Most Inspirational Anime Convention Year!

Hello Shiquers and welcome back to Nerdy Shique Universe! I’m back from Omni Expo 2018 and man I am exhausted but feel inspired! How so? Well, this year was a huge inspirational convention and there were things that took place that were things that made me not feel inspired but an inspiration on its own. I will explain as the review goes on.

Disclaimer: This review is based on thoughts, opinions, and observation of the lead writer of this blog. Please respect her thoughts on this convention and thank you!

Man! This year was a huge year for Omni Expo and let’s see let’s start with location!

Location: This year Omni Expo was at the Florida Hotel again since it was a success at this location a year ago. Last year, the format was a little weird because of Panel Room 1 being close to the vendor hall and the Main Events Room and so on, this year they changed it up slightly. Instead of having Panel Room 1 close to Vendors, they put it closer to the Gamin Rooms and Panel Room 2 which 2 was changed and was a bit bigger from last year. As in, PR 2 is not as tiny, I don’t feel like my claustrophobia was being affected, it was just longer and had more chairs in the audience area. PR 1, on the other hand, it was wider! As in, it seems like they wanted these rooms to be bigger than last year’s rooms and glad they went with that especially with more people attendee this convention. Yes, there was a bigger turn out this year that I’ve noticed and glad to see that with this year. Heck, someone even posted on the Florida Mall Facebook saying, “There are so many people with weird colored hair, armor, and more.” This is what happens when you hold a convention, heck I still remember walking past Auntie Ann’s last year as Link and everyone followed with their gazes.

Vendors Hall: This year’s Vendors Hall felt like it was the same size as last year. Even though I was hoping Surreal Makeup would be back for this year since there was one item I did see I would like to get but they weren’t there which sucked a little. Hoping to catch them again somewhere at Holiday Matsuri if we get press again or just buy from their website. I did find something nice that I did end up picking up and that is a Pink Ranger lunch box from the same guy who sells a lot of old school stuff even from Power Rangers. It is the classic Mighty Morphen Pink Ranger and as you know it brings back so many memories and when I was around that age I didn’t get any Power Rangers stuff except the movie items from McDonald’s when I was about to go into the fourth grade and wanted to see that movie but saw Pocahontas instead. This lunch box does come in handy to carry food in even for convention time when I do carry sandwiches and other things, heck I think it’s roomier than my Dead Pool Chimichanga truck lunch box. We did bump into the Japanese snacks guy we always love buying from since he spotted me through my Rarity cosplay and I thought he wouldn’t be selling at the convention but silly kitty or shall I say unicorn me was glad to see him and did get another mystery bag and a bag of strawberry Kit Kats to try out! Look out for a video on that! Besides the vendors, they did bring back some of the vehicles they had on display, which we did hear the Jurassic Park theme song playing in the back and that was next to Rob Simms’s table. We mostly mingled with some of the other guests, I did get to talk to Mesumi Sempai a little bit since I never got to talk to her one on one and she is one of the nicest people you will ever meet. We did talk to Paul St. Peter again since we have interviewed him last year and it was sad that he didn’t bring back Pirate Curses. We did go to two of his other panels which….

Events & Panels: This year was eventful! Even more than last year! I can see why there was a bigger turn out since there were a lot of guests coming including Sawa who was the Japanese singer that was invited this year, we wanted to interview her but due to her being on high demand for interviews and her schedule being busy we will be arranging a Skype interview sometime soon. We did go to her acoustic show Saturday night and if you haven’t seen her live I would suggest to do so! We do have both of her CDs and I will probably do a review of them whenever I can get the time to do it since now I’ve been pretty busy. I did get brought to tears during one of her songs since it was very touching and hearing it acoustic made it even more special. She did do one medley but don’t want to tell you guys about it since she did say not to record that one but the others you could. I did like the song “What Is Wrong with Me?” since that is also a sticker you could get for free at her table and can’t wait to hear the album version. We did go to her panel on Sunday and it was very educational because we get to learn about the bath houses and she shown pictures of the one her family owns. It’s interesting to learn that like with apprenticeships, where you take up some of the more cultural things like being a Geisha and puppetry, it is starting to become a bit of a dying breed due to people in Japan starting to get their own bathrooms to take showers and baths in. If you’re visiting Japan at all, I would say visit them or even Sawa’s family’s bathhouse since we have seen them in anime and movies why not check out the real one? Also, meet Sawa if she is at a convention near you because she is a major sweetheart!

Besides going to Sawa’s stuff, we did go to, well I did go to the Crystal Carnivale ball since it was RWBY themed this year. As you know, Gondras and I are huge fans and well we did have a bit of a hiccup at the door. The thing was Gondras was supposed to be my escort despite not being formally dressed, I thought he would do his Fourth Doctor but he didn’t since it would be a little hot in the Florida Mall Hotel despite it being cold at night, I know the weather should have happened during Holiday Matsuri. Anyways, when we got to the door, they wouldn’t allow Gondras in even though we asked the staff it was okay and apparently word didn’t get to the volunteers at the door. I didn’t want to waste the $5 and went in anyways. One of the staff members did find me and apologized for what had happened at the door and was appreciative for what we have done ever since the convention started. I did spend the rest of the hour there but felt bad for Gondras even though they wanted him back in and I tried telling him to come back which they said it was okay, he didn’t want to. I did try having fun at least and got to see the Nora cosplayer, since she is one of my fave characters from the series, perform even if I couldn’t see it. The funny thing though, not sure if they got the vibe from my dress or something, the room was split into red and white tables representing Team RWBY and Team JNPR and when you entered the ball you were given a pack of buttons with clothes pins in the color representing that team and I was already sitting at a white tablecloth table and asked what color was the clothespin and it was white. I did joke in my notes, “Maybe they knew I had a Team JNPR shirt?” Which is true, I have it in my closet again to go with my new RWBY chiffon skirt and hat! I did reunite with Gondras and we go to the Creating Good Guys panel and Bad Guys panels that night since I am a writer after all and have been on a major writer’s block with my third book and getting back into it, it was interesting in my opinion since it did give me new insights in how I should take my story. I even asked advice from Kaz LeFave and Mimi Jean Pamfiloff recently and I thank them for that. In between both of those panels, we did attend Derek Steven Prince’s Jeopardy panel which I did put on our itinerary as a possible thing to do. We did participate in it and winning lets you spend an hour with him. Did we win? Yes! It was a challenge with most of the questions and we got to learn more about him before the interview which you will catch on our YouTube soon which that was our entire hour with him. He did come into the Creating Bad Guys panel and sit in on it. I think we do have video from that so you will get to see the Good Guys and Bad Guys panels.

Many other events and panels we went to include the two panels that Bruce Carr also known as No Ordinary Balloon Man which if you haven’t catched him at a con, you should because he does a lot of balloon creations. This year he went all Digimon with Wyrmon, Tai, and the Digimon Emperor! We did see Josh Seth stand next to the Tai creation during the weekend which was awesome. What panel stood out between the two he had done was Twisting Up the Odds because what was interesting about him is that he has Asperger’s along with Evan, which we also catch with him and records video of his creations, and it was a very inspirational panel. One thing I have to say is that being disabled people think you can’t do anything and it’s heartbreaking to see that. I did help with making a penguin because Bruce pulled me up to the front due to his story about how he went into balloon making and that he and I recreated the penguin he had made for a boy that not only his condition but was also blind and that he came to me for that it brought tears of joy. Heck, trying to keep my composure here! I still have the penguin and knowing that my final review part may make you guys cry so have the tissues because I may need them too! Another event on a happier note, the Live Script Reading! This year’s script reading was very entertaining and it included Sawa, Paul, Derek, Josh, one of the cosplay guests, and Rob Simms and the scripts they had included from Star Wars, Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2, and Fifth Element. Perfect timing for Guardians 2 since they had the scenes with Taser Face and the one where Groot had to get Yandu’s fin back. In the Taser Face thing, Sawa played the part of Rocket and she did pretty well and she did narrate the Yandu and Groot part where Josh was Rocket, Rob was Groot, and Derek was Yandu. He gave him the Veemon voice from what I was noticing and it fit! I still busted out laughing with the human toe part! That still gets me even when how the audio description read it out to me while seeing the movie a year ago. And another event was Josh Seth’s illusion show that he made for Omni Expo! What most people probably don’t know is that he does magic related things and it was an amazing show that he put together for Omni and how he made the tricks. Heck, the final trick, he had the serial number on Gondras’ dollar bill in the end! Holy crap! Two thumbs up if you’re into magic shows. It was my first one live as a blind person since Gondras wanted to see how Josh would make his show seen by a blind person since on Pen & Teller’s Fool Us show one of the magicians did a card trick made for a blind participant in mind. I did participate somewhat in the final trick where he tried asking me to come up but he had me stay in the audience. Don’t want to fall off another stage which…in case anyone is asking…my panel…no one came again! I am not sure if it is my time slot selection since the cosplay contest was going on and hoped to get some remains of Josh’s crowd from his creative panel. Empty and again Gondras had to play the crowd which I do have video from. Not sure if I should bring another panel or not, who knows what will happen next year.

Rating: ::hears alarms:: SUPER CONVENTION ACCOMPLISHED! What does that mean? It means this convention had a major accomplishment since things have gone through the roof! This year’s Omni has been a major inspirational convention because of how we can tackle obstacles and put ourselves out there. Ever since Omni first found this blog all thanks to a small typo, I wouldn’t be still doing press for them to this day and is keeping me hopeful for my future doing press. Not only that, also my dreams to become an Assistive Tech Specialist since I was told to stick with writing except I use tech in order to write and without that tech I wouldn’t be writing this review and Nerdy Shique Universe wouldn’t exist! All I have to say is that all thanks to meeting Sawa, Derek Steven Prince, even getting to be up there with Bruce helping him with re-creating that penguin, it has inspired me to go further. What really makes me go further was that staff member, Roy, who came to talk to me before the Crystal Carnivale ever started and telling me that they have appreciated what not only me but what Gondras and Nerdy Shirts had done over the years. Yes, I went to year one alone and came back with two other members and looking at what we’ve done is a major accomplishment and that really warmed my heart. ::sees kitty minions with tissue boxes:: Thanks! ::takes one:: So in the end, I hung up my Omni Expo badge as a symbol of how much we’ve done in the past and even this year. Thank you Omni Expo for bringing us for press every year and showing that you guys may be small as heck but you still bring people to your convention even if it’s before springtime and had to switch with MegaCon. You guys are still a favorite and keep on going!

Needs for Improvement: Even though this year was really good but I do have two things to improve on…

Improving Volunteers With Escorts: As in, letting them know that even if they don’t have formal wear but let their escorts into the Crystal Carnivale when it comes to being disabled. Staff did apologize to me in person which was the best thing ever and I did write to Omni that there should be something in place to help any disabled, especially blind, attendees when it comes to getting around and even having their escorts with them in a special way. For instance, when I was in the costume contest last year as Link, I had Gondras escort me to where I need to be and they let him help and even handled Ageslash in making it wave. Anyways, that should be a permanent thing for certain events whether it’s being a contestant or going into the formal even if the escort is not dressed for the occasion.
Signings Should Be In A Small Room: What I mean by this is that the lines for the guests were taking up foot traffic in the Vendor’s Room which there were the area for shopping and it was hard to see who was in line for the guests and who was going to a vendor. I think the Florida Mall Hotel can move the walls so it would be a nice section to block off between the vendor halls and have people either peek in to see if a guest is around or see about the schedule on an easel to say, “Hey! This person is going to be back at this time!” Would ease the foot traffic a little or expand the width of the vendor’s area to make it more expanded for signings. I missed it where in the Double Tree near Universal there was a big area for the guests to sign things and that was out of the way of people walking, it was the same way back at the Rosen Center in 2015 and even year one where there was one huge area towards the back of the vendor area for guests so it would be easier to walk around. So yeah, there should be a bigger area for guests and/or make a room separate for them so foot traffic won’t be so obstructed. Always next year folks!

Guest Suggestions: Since I haven’t put this in here, now starting to with new reviews, I think conventions should be suggested some people and take them on a bit more. Here are my suggestions for 2019!

Melissa Fon: Since we have three Digimon guest, why not get someone from one of the most iconic of the seasons and darkest of them all, Melissa Fon who played Rika. She also was the voice of Edward in Cowboy Bebop!
Steve Blum: He was at Holiday Matsuri and would be fun for him to return for another Orlando convention!
Mary Elizabeth McGlynn: Can’t have Steve without Mary since they have worked with each other in the past!
Neil Kaplan: He has not been back to Orlando has he? He plays Halsemon and Hawkmon in Digimon Season 2 and any Voltron: Legendary Defender fans, he is Zarcon for that season!
Team FourStar: It’s been four years since they’ve been back and it would be fun to bring the main three, Lenimpataur, Takata, and KaiserNekko to bring on the fun. Especially with Final Fantasy VII Mission Abridged being such a hit. Try having your fiancé quote Vincent Valentine from this!
Louis Lovehog also known as Linkara: Since MythiCon had ended in 2014, I think we’re missing Atop the Fourth Wall Live and it would be fun to see him do another comic here in the Sunshine State!

Well, that is it for this review! Don’t worry everyone, we do have videos coming up from this year’s event! From my panel to our interview with Mr. Prince, we have a lot! Not only that, I did say we are trying to arrange a Skype interview with Sawa in the near future due to her packed schedule and hoping we can get it up before whatever convention we go to next. Knowing that our time differences well probably be worked around since she is in Japan and we’re in the U. S. would be nice to visit Japan, wouldn’t it? Hey, we have to work with what we got and I did re-install Skype since we have our first interview in the works to make up for not being able to interview anyone during Holiday Matsuri last year. You will see! So, in the meantime, make sure you follow us on Twitter @ Nerdy Shique for all the latest updates for our posts here on Word Press and YouTube. In case if you want to suggest who we should start doing Skype interviews with, would like suggestions and see if we can reach out. We also would like authors too since we do have book reviews here! So, until next time! Catch you all on the universe side!

Books: Dark Designs by. Stephanie Spangler

Hello Shiquers and welcome back to Nerdy Shique Universe! I just finished another book tonight and time for another review!

Title: Dark Designs
Author: Stephanie Spangler

Disclaimer: This book review is based on thoughts and opinions of the lead writer of this blog. Please respect her thoughts and opinions on this book. There might be spoilers ahead.

Synopsis: Even though they’re opposites but twins Ivy and Violet Grant have one thing in common and that is their magic. Ivy has returned to Oak Hill after being away for college and returns and notices how her sister, Violet, who is often quiet, a little distant from her because she thinks that she would act like their mother who had left them. Charlie Logan, a former farm hand, has been obsessed with Ivy Grant for many years and finds a book with dark magic during a burglary and decides to use it in order to get his hands on Ivy again.

With the help from their grandmother, both Ivy and Violet must use their magic practices in order to defeat Charlie and the dark demon within him in order to keep Ivy away from him or they’re doomed.

Thoughts: Even though this book was fast but it was too fast because of how much each chapter had and ended a bit too quickly. I don’t mind the short chapters since there are times where so much story is told and it feels like forever before the next one starts. Spangler is pretty good at writing, I did notice that there were times where some things were missing from the plot such as how did the girls knew that they can do magic for instance or what kind of book Charlie may have found. Even though there were parts where some explanation took place like Audrey, their grandmother, getting her magical talent and how the spell book hat their family had contained information she needed there should have been a bit more to explain. I did notice in the description how both sisters were practicing their magic but I didn’t see it much because I mostly see them bickering, Violet being with her new boyfriend, Kevin, and them being with Audrey. I wished they would’ve focused on them starting to use it slightly more since this is a story about magic after all and could’ve explained what kind of magic they used. I do notice how it kind of felt like Dresden Files with using ritual items like candles, blood, sticks to write things down, even matches, and stones, I am thinking if I were to get this right and that is they might be using Wicca in the book due to Ivy’s friend from college was also Wiccan and did give her a blade with a stone that did help take down Charlie. I don’t want to give away too much but I think this book could’ve had more explanation to the magic itself and I did like the character back stories that led up to how Charlie was stalking Ivy but could have shown his obsessions towards her a little more and could probably show him talking with the spirit a little more that was taking him over as the book progressed. Besides my nit picking, I did like how Violet was acting on the more big sisterly role, not sure who is supposed to be the older one since there are times where one twin is born a few seconds to a minute more than the other from what I hear, I think it may be Violet due to how much she has been looking after Ivy even in this book when Charlie was coming after her. Also, I did like how she was acting on not only as sister but the replacement mother which she was angry towards her which I take it’s due to leaving the both of them or it’s just probably due to the magic part, we don’t really know since it was rarely talked about. I do remember Audrey mentioned that their mom left because she didn’t understand the magic they possessed and didn’t want to learn it. Wishing that was explained a little more too.

Rating: 3 Out of 5 Star Paw Prints! I know it is a bit of a harsh rating but I feel like the characters’ motivations needed to be Dark Designs by. Stephanie Spanglerexplained a little bit more. I get that Charlie Logan is obsessed with Ivy and I wonder why he is obsessed with her. Was the dark magic book necessary and how was it tied in? I understand that Violet is mad at their mother, why was she mad at her? Audrey talks about why their mother left, is it due to the magic or is it that she is that wild? These questions still made me wonder and not sure where Spangler was going with this book and wishing that some points were explained a little more. There was some back story which I did like and wishing there was a little more to it even towards the Grant family even with the magic explanations even where there was a matching book to Charlie’s. Plus, I felt this book went a little too fast and wishing it slowed down a bit so I could get a breath in between chapters even with the action.

Well, that is about it for this review, I know it was a little fast and a long explanation to some things but the book was good except it should’ve been worked on a little more and that’s my opinion. Well, next post will be my review on Omni, it is taking a bit since I have been busy the past week and my Braille Sense needed a major recharge since Gondras had my charger for the rest of the weekend. I really need that Polaris! Anyways, until next time!

Restaurants: Peach Valley Cafe Review

Hello Shiquers and welcome back to Nerdy Shique Universe! Before I do my Omni Expo stuff, I would like to do a food review!

Place: Peach Valley Café
Location: Orlando, FL

Well, it’s been years since I have done a restaurant review since I haven’t tried any unique places as of late. Well, I did try Bakery Plus and Smash Burger except this was around the time when Irma hit! Today, I’m bringing you a place I finally tried and that is Peach Valley Café. I didn’t know about this place until the National Federation of the Blind here in Orlando talked about how they held their Christmas party there for years. I couldn’t go to their Christmas Party due to Holiday Matsuri taking place the same weekend, especially last year, so I finally got to go today because of the 35th anniversary Orlando’s Chapter was having and celebrated at this café.

When I arrived with my dad, it was a pretty big place in a shopping center. I didn’t know it was close to where Gondras lives which he could’ve been at this thing to meet everyone and know what the NFB is about after knowing that I always go to their meetings and have been for years. There is the Greater Orlando Council of the Blind’s fundraising event this Wednesday so he will get his chance then.

Back to the Peach Valley Café, I was led to a room that is meant for group events and it was decently sized as well. There were three groups of tables from my hearing and the waiters and waitresses were very accommodating. Good thing is that we got the event menu beforehand and it was small from their usual menu. I went for the cheeseburger since that is my go to item at restaurants that serve them if it is a new environment. It is the easiest thing to pick for me and don’t have to worry about forks and knives just eating the burger and putting ketchup on my fries. I didn’t know they had sweet potato fries until someone mentioned them and at least I didn’t crack up with that) If you have seen my interview with Bryce Papenbrook then you would know that story!) But the fries were as good. I wish they were extra crispy since I love my fries that way, wishing I asked for them like that but there is always next time since I want to come back on a normal day. I’ve heard the chicken salad is also good and their breakfast items are even tasty which makes me curious about that due to seeing that one of the items to choose was an omelet and that is my favorite egg dish. I almost thought about dessert which their only thing was peach cobbler. I do like cobbler, wishing there was more variety, especially something with chocolate. I mean you can combine peaches and white chocolate or regular chocolate with peaches, I mean Brookside tested that very well with their stuff. I may have to try the cobbler next time since it was close to closing time too on a Saturday which is 3 PM.

Final Thoughts: Even though this is my first time, I would say it was a really good first try. I’m open to new places if I have heard a lot of good things about them and Peach Valley was one of them. I have to try the chicken salad sandwich next since that is one thing I have loved for many years. I also have learned to ask for my fries extra crispy on my part even though they were really tasty. Also, the staff was very friendly and if they get something wrong they fix it automatically. When I got my second cup of split tea, which is half of sweet and half of unsweet and have done it ever since drinking the McDonald’s sweet tea, I noticed it was unsweet and asked for it to be fixed and they did it right away. They should have a bit more variety with desserts since you know me with chocolate, I do want to try out the cobbler next time.

Rating: 5 Out of 5 Star Paw Prints! If you’re in the mood for breakfast or lunch, Peach Valley is the place for you! It is a place with a friendly atmosphere and they are very accommodating too. If you’re in town and have extra time to stop for a fairly priced bite to eat, Peach Valley is for you!

That is it for this review! I will include a link to their website in case if you want to check them out and take your friends to. I highly recommend! Next post will be my Omni Expo review and I will also have Peach Valley Cafe Official Websitea book review lined up! Until next time!
