Assistive Tech: Meet the Be My Eyes App!

Hello to all of my beautiful nerds traveling the vast universe! I am back with another Assistive Technology post!

Be My Eyes!

Since I’ve been talking about Microsoft’s Soundscape for a while now it was time to bring something new to the Assistive Tech category on here and that’s a handy little app known as Be My Eyes. I’ve known about this app for a few years now and it has changed the accessibility game even for myself since I have to rely on my sighted peers or parents for help but this is a great app to help you when you don’t have anyone around.

The Idea Behind It: Before we get into what it does I feel like talking about the idea behind it. This app’s story started in Denmark in 2012 with Hans Jorgen Wiberg who is a furniture craftsmen that was also visually impaired and all thanks to his work through the Danish Association For the Blind he recognized that the blind people in his community need a little help and with a blind friend having video calls with family members to give him assistance, Hans came up with an idea to use video chat features on someone’s phone or tablet to get this kind of assistance and that deals with volunteers instead.

What It Does? What this app does basically opens up on the main area of the app, when you first register which you need to is that it does ask if you’re a volunteer or the blind person using this app and I’m blind so I have been using it, and it gives you the button when you’re the person using this app as a blind person a button to call anyone and it sends a call to ten people and whoever gets it then they can see through your camera and you ask what you need help with, for example I needed help with money once and Seeing A. I. didn’t have the Currency channel at the time and my little gadget from the Talking Book Library died right about that time and the person was able to help me out. Another example, I don’t like interrupting conversations unless I need to and during a luncheon with the NFB of Central Florida I got a raffle ticket and someone who still had some sight was busy so I opened up Be My Eyes and used it to read out the last three digits out to me. As I said, it can do anything! I remember a British lady did do an interview where she demonstrated how to find a green spool of thread.

I bet you’re wondering, does the sighted volunteer get any information or looks at anything else that might be private, I did go to the panel on this during the NFB National Convention and all they see is what you is in front of them to help guide. One thing is they need more sighted volunteers at the moment and I suggest downloading the app and sign up for it because it would give you some nice work experience. Trust me, volunteering does help and doing it for the blind is even more helpful!

I’m going to try and see about interviewing the Hans since of course Denmark is six hours ahead of us and it would be cool to do a Skype interview with an app developer that has been helping for three years now. Oh almost forgot!

What Platforms Is It Available On? You can get Be My Eyes on the IOS App Store which I did for my IPhone and my IPad one time and of course on the Google Play Store for Android. The great news for anyone who has the Braille Note Touch or the Braille Sense Polaris, you can get it on the Play Store too through those devices because I asked during the National Convention if it could work with Braille devices since now they are building the note takers with cameras and Android tech, don’t worry will get to that review, and they didn’t know. A few days of resting, I decided to test it on my Polaris and it does work! I know it seems odd to hear a Braille device having a camera but they do see what’s in front of them through Be My Eyes and I used it with a pack of Oreos my dad bought for my nephews while they visited and they saw it clearly through the app. So if you have a Note Touch from Human Ware or a Polaris from HIMS it’s available and you just wear the device so in case if you’re somewhere with it and need help with a hand out from a teacher or what’s on the board you have Be My Eyes. And good news is that it’s free by the way. And by the way…

New Features: There is a new feature for Be My Eyes and that is the Specialized Help tab in the app. This is where you can connect with the Be My Eyes Technical Support and also Microsoft! They are trying to grow this where you can suggest other companies and maybe they should have Apple and Google Support for the Specialized Help, or even Freedom Scientific, you never know!

Well, that’s it for this post! Next app I will be talking about is a new one for locating places and that is N Reach! So stay tuned for that! And also in other news, we will be interviewing the band Traverser through Skype! Yay! We wanted to interview them for a while and they’ve been out somewhere in the universe and back for a new performance in August and will be interviewing the guys as they are about to rehearse for the big show! I will try to get an interview with Hans from Be My Eyes since this has been a big help so far in my life, heck even Nerdy Shirts was surprised that an app like it exists. So make sure to follow us on Twitter whenever we tweet about any interviews going up on YouTube and a lot more over @ Nerdy Shique! Until next time, stay beautiful in the universe!

Beauty: Ipsy July 2018!

Hello to all of my beautiful nerds traveling the vast universe! I am back with a new post and guess what, my Ipsy is back!

Ipsy July 2018!

It’s back! It’s back! I am glad to be subscribed to Ipsy again and it’s been a long year and a half to two years because my story behind that I used to use my dad’s account to get Ipsy since I didn’t have my account with my funds I get every month and since that got transferred over I am glad to get it back. When I noticed that I had enough to start this subscription again after getting invites back to Ipsy I decided it was time after not getting it and being sad with YouTube videos about it. The funny thing was that I was originally supposed to get August’s bag first because when I got my very first bag it was August 2014’s bag and after getting finger printed for the job offer I was surprised by an email saying, “Congrats! Your Glam Bag is On Its Way!” In the subject area and I did ask them about it and guess what? They had extra slots for July and I was happy and surprised that I was getting my July bag first! Hey, it was better than waiting and they did say they didn’t want me to wait until next month so happy early birthday? Let’s see what they welcomed me back with shall we?

July Bag: It looks like they changed things up since the last time I got a bag and it looks like no theme and I think they stopped doing themes now and it is sometimes hard to catch up because there were times where I forgot it and just dive right in. I also noticed that with videos they have been paying attention to profiles a lot more because back in the past I remembered so many people complained on Facebook about their bag containing products that don’t match them at all, that they didn’t mark products but getting them anyways, etc. I remembered first signing up that it did mention in the fine print, “Not guaranteed to get what’s on your profile because this is a sampling service.” Which I did get items I didn’t like or want and just traded them or gave them away and now that my profile is marked better it seems like they matched me pretty well and wishing they didn’t get my age wrong since they thought I was 34 when I said I was born in 1985.

Another change that happened was they added something new and that’s Ipsy Shopper where with products that you get you get to click on a button the page for that product to buy it and you get cash back and it is kind of like Ebates where you get the check after getting $5 or more. I might consider this if I like the products and have some money left over let’s see how it goes!

The Bag: The bag is really cute! It’s like the bags I remembered getting where the zipper is an inch from the top instead of really on top and it feels like vinyl almost. It’s also very shiny and kind of reminds you of a mermaid. Also the zipper tag was protected by some kind of plastic which I took off! Very cute!

BKR Water Balm: First item which is in the envelope is by BKR and it’s a Water Balm. Never heard of this brand until I got this product. That’s what I like about Ipsy is that they get brands I hardly ever heard of and I get to try them out. This brand is known for a water bottle that the staff at Ipsy have and is considered as a beauty product due to the hydration that water gives and that is a huge key to have a healthy complexion which I do agree since I’ve been drinking a lot of water after being ill a few times. This is the Paris Water balm that includes sixteen healthy plant actives including Mediterranean Algae, French Rose, and bio lipids and the algae is supposed to keep your lips healthy and not only that can be used on your cuticles too which makes it better. Also great to use as a lip product base which can help with liquid lipsticks due to how drying a lot of them are. I did try it out and it does go on very smoothly.
Smash Box Cosmetics Always on Liquid Lipstick in Stepping Out: Next is a liquid lipstick by Smash Box and it’s from their Always on Line. I always wanted to try these and glad to get it even though it’s a sample size. I did notice a lot of people got their waterproof concealer which I didn’t mark that I wanted concealers since I use my NYX one in light and I did hear that it does oxidize and I am not a part of that life. I am glad to get this though since I do love lip products. I do thank Ipsy to get me into Smash Box but I haven’t been giving them much love as much as Urban Decay has been from me. I have heard their new shadow trios are pretty good though. This shade is a deep mauve nude and it lasts for eight hours which that will be a great test to do and apparently this does have primer oils so you don’t need a lip primer, which I have to try and see if that’s true.
Sugar Cosmetics Stroke Of Genious Heavy-Duty Kohl in Purple Rain: Next is an eyeliner pencil from Sugar Cosmetics. I think I never got anything from these guys and I was looking for a purple eyeliner months ago but hey not bad to have another one just in case. Some people thought this was a lip liner but actually Kohl is meant for the eyes and if you remembered from Egyptian times it’s the eyeliner they made in order to line their lines to help block out the sun from their eyes from what I heard and if you remembered from the artwork too it’s what you see in any portraits of the Pharaohs and servants. I did kind of felt the tip and oh man this is super creamy! This is also supposed to be a waterproof formula with eight hours of wear time without smudging and fading, which this will be a great test since I am thinking of trying some of these products and take a picture for Instagram. If you aren’t following me there, Mari Blue Cat is my display name. Also, this won’t tug on your eyes from what JAWS is telling me which is good to know since people are still saying that’s a bad thing. I do notice how sometimes eyeliners do skip which that is why I go back and forth to make sure it’s going on right. Let’s see how this goes!
Ittse Matte Eye Shadow in Changing to Flats: Next is an eye shadow single from a brand called Ittse. I remembered Coffee Break with Dani talked about these guys and they are almost like Colour Pop in a way due to pricing but their shadows are two bucks more minus the cash back which you do get with this. It’s an eye shadow pan which is great to add to my Z-Pallet and it’s almost the size as my Makeup Geeks and the smaller Ofra ones I got from Boxy Charm from my very last box. It’s a matte plum shade and I think this will go good with one of my Balm shadows and the Treasure shadow from Pacifica that I got in Ipsy Bags Past, let’s see how it will look. I remembered in someone’s video they swatched this and hardly any pigment, let me see in my peripheral vision if it does. It didn’t show but to be fair with some shadows if you’re swatching on the hand they sometimes don’t show up there but will show on the eyes, let’s see how it goes when I do put it on top of my primer and my Pearl Fizz shadow from Tini Beauty which I am trying to pan at the moment so that’s my setting shadow for my primer at the moment and did get it in Ipsy many years ago.
IBY Beauty Eye Shadow Fluff Brush: Final item is a brush from IBY Beauty! One thing besides most products I love getting are brushes! As you know I used to paint and well after going blind makeup has been my other creative outlet. I was happy to get this brush in my Ipsy bag this month and I don’t think I’ve gotten any of IBY’s brushes before. I have heard of these guys since many people have gotten their items in the past. I have to test this brush since this is good to put down defining shadows on my lid area and will see how it goes with the Ittse shadow.

Way to go Ipsy! This was an amazing bag especially with me coming back for a subscription again! I am glad that they are going with people’s profiles and this was a great match with me. The brush is nice and soft, I think I put adventurous in shadows or lip colors I forget but they did match me very well with both since hazel eyes go well with purple shadows and Jeffree Starr, haven’t mentioned his name in a while here, did say purples are hard to formulate and I agree with that since some of the shadows in the Revealed 3 were hard for some people. Hoping the shadow does translate well to my eyes. I’m also glad that I am trying out the Always on Liquid Lipstick and who knows I might get some in the future in how well it goes. And the eye pencil will definitely use and same with that water balm which does feel nice on the lips, let’s see how well it works as a lip base! Thank you Ipsy and can’t wait for August! I am going to wait a little while before I get back to Boxy Charm since now they are doing a pallet every month but my drawer is stuffed with pallets who knows when I can keep on doing my Project Pan. Let’s see what the future holds but definitely staying with Ipsy!

What’s next? I am going back to Assistive Tech with talking about Be My Eyes since I mentioned that I met the creators at the NFB National Convention! You may want to stick around for this so until next time! Make sure you follow us at Twittter @ Nerdy Shique for all of the latest updates!

Beauty: Limited Edition MakeUp Tag!

Hello my beautiful nerds who are traveling the vast universe! It’s time for a new makeup tag!

Limited Edition Makeup Tag!

This tag was created by Angelica Nyquist who is a YouTuber I got into all thanks to Karen Harris and her video in particular besides the cat got me to do my answers. I hope doing it as a blog post is okay since it’s easier for me to do rather than have a camera with Siri telling me where my face is. I think this is an interesting tag because it asks about limited edition stuff and we all love the novelties behind it and sometimes it can be annoying to find depending on where you live or it’s in stock or not! Let’s see what questions she asked and what my answers are! I am not bashing on these brands if I have anything negative to say it’s my opinion and I’m entitled to that opinion!

1. What is the limited edition product that you were happy to get your hands on? It has to be both the Tarte Swamp Queen Pallet and the Too Faced Holiday 2016 Sets in New York Café and Merry Macarons! I remembered how Bunny also known as Grav3yard Girl on YouTube was releasing a pallet with Tarte and it caught my ear and I wanted it so badly. It was sold out at Ulta and when I got enough money to get this thing I had to order it on Sephora and was lucky that it was still available there when it sold out everywhere else. I love everything except that the bronzer was way too dark for me to use as a contour shade, I feel like an Oompa Loompa if I used it for that so I use it as eye shadow instead with the other shades that have an orange undertone. I wished there was a lighter bronzer even though Bunny does love her super dark contour but I can’t use it. Again, it’s an eye shadow for me. While the other two sets, these were very popular even the Merry Macarons because it smelled like cookies and it was sold out everywhere in my town and my dad didn’t want to give up on me getting it for Christmas until I called the Ulta he went to first and they had one left and I begged for them to hold it and they did until noon which made me happy that I got this. I haven’t used it much because of it being a hard thing to find and I love the vanilla scent it gives as much as the coffee scent from the New York Café ones since that’s coffee and these were the two really pigmented sets out of all three they did that Christmas. So I was really happy to get these three!
2. What was your least favorite LE Product you could live without? I would have to say the Nikkie Tutorials Collab with Too Faced. I know I did praise it despite how bad reviews were but this was one collab I wished it would’ve been pushed back for the pigmentation issues. I admit I did have some issues with one of the shimmer shades while the rest were pigmented. I do have to say one thing is that companies should not rush their collabs with YouTubers and celebrities because this can happen and Too Faced, especially, is well known for being one of the greatest companies with their pigmentation but lately it feels like they are going down the hill and their saving graces are the Peach Collection and the Chocolate Bar Collection. I am still on the fence about the Golden Bar Pallet by the way. I wished I didn’t have bought this despite how I love leopard, which got me, and I did want to support Nikkie. Still, it should’ve been pushed back.
3. What brand do you think that does Limited Edition best? This one is a hard one but so far so good I am giving it to Wet N Wild because they’ve been working their asses off especially last year with their Spring, Summer, and Fall Collections! I still have all three by the way and the only collection I have this year is the Flights of Fancy Collection and that was really good except for the primer spray which the sprayer died on me very badly. If I were to pick which collection was my overall favorite it would be Unicorn Glow because it was very simple and you can do a lot of things with those eye pigments, highlights, and you do have the lipsticks and that cute brush! I am also still thinking about their Zodiac Collection since I am also thinking what happens if they do a fall one in the midst? Who knows but still I think Wet N Wild does it best.
4. And to flip things over, what brand do you think does it the worst? Oh man, this one is very hard because I tend to pick which brand I want to get the limited edition stuff wisely because I look at reviews with some things like the Christmas stuff for example and some YouTuber related items just in case they go on sale. So, I can’t really say who does it the worst because reviews can be where you can tell yourself if you should get it. Also, I have to agree with Karen that there are times where brands do make it hard by saying it is limited or not and then bring it back due to people wanting it back, to me that is also confusing.
5. Name one thing or more that you wished that wasn’t Limited Edition? Easily the lip scrubs and baked blushes that were in the Flights Of Fancy Collection because as you know lip scrubs are a huge thing at the moment since people love to take care of their lips and brands have been popping up with their own scrubs in the drugstore so you don’t need to go to Sephora or Lush to get their scrubs as an affordable option. I have the watermelon one and man it doesn’t feel so rough like some of the ones I’ve tried so far, it’s just sugar and oils which are very essential to the lips after you get the scrubby bits off. I am not sure but I do lick it off and it’s not harmful to me and it does taste like watermelon. These should be permanent and more flavors please Wet N Wild. While the baked blushes, this was their first line of baked blushes and I feel like they can keep these in their permanent range due to how popular their Color Icon Blushes have been. These are as pigmented and easy to blend and yeah they may have the hummingbird in it but that can be removed and place it on the shelf. And of course, can make more colors of on top of it. I mean they took the concepts for the Metallic Cat Suits to make nude colors for their permanent range why not this?
6. What is the thing that got away and you couldn’t get and missed? I would say the Manny MUA pallet he did with Makeup Geek. I was so excited for this to come out but couldn’t get it since at the time I always asked for some money from my mom and was sad not to get it since the price was over whatever I had left. I did ask for it in PR and they said no to that. I wanted it so badly since I used to support Manny and I did love the shades that came in it, especially Luna and Artemis, I wished they released some of those unique shades separately then I would buy those but nope! I did let it get away and one side of me is kicking myself but the other is not feeling so badly since he does have his own makeup line and not sure if I should support it after not being subscribed to him for a while due to his makeup videos weren’t that entertaining after a while. I do like neutral eyes but they can be boring after a while. Sorry Manny.
7. What was one thing that was limited and made permanently and either made sense or not to you? I would say, since I mentioned Wet N Wild is that they took the Metallic Cat Suits and made a different range of them to be nuder and I liked that. I don’t have any of those shades yet but will in the future since I did love the ones from the Midnight Mermaid Collection and it was great that Wet N Wild took that and said, “Hey, people loved these why not just make nude ones since not everyone wants a bold lip.” I admit I love wearing blue and green sometimes but other times I do like my nudes and I did hear good things about what they did for permanent shades and glad that they did that instead of just keeping the Metallic Cat Suits limited edition.
8. What is one thing permanent do you think should have been left limited? Hmmmmmm! That’s a hard one! I got one! I noticed this ended up on Ulta’s website and that is the Midnight Mermaid Box! I wanted this originally from Wet N Wild but it sold out and it stayed sold out on their website and I got the individual pieces from Ulta and Wet N Wild to get the entire collection. Trust me, that was hard on both sides but what the question is would it have been back in stock? I even talked to people over at Wet N Wild on the phone and they said it won’t be back. Guess what? A year or so later, it was on Ulta’s website. Seriously? I was mad at Ulta since they could’ve had this when the Midnight Mermaid box first released but we were told it was going to be only on Wet N Wild’s website. All I have to say, it looks like it’s no longer there but at least it was still considered limited edition because I feel like the box sets should stay limited and like what Wet N Wild told me if it sold out then you pretty much can’t get it again. The Flights of Fancy Box is there though in case if you haven’t gotten that yet.
9. What is the Best Thing or Collab Released According to You? I would say when Ofra collaborated with any of the YouTubers so far like Nikkie Tutorials, Manny MUA, and Kathleen Lights because they have had liquid lipsticks released, not only that Nikkie had a highlighter wheel made and now she’s getting another collab with them which is a good thing. I love Ofra and I hope they keep on going with other You Tubers that have been working hard and I know some of the shades are also permanent at the moment which is pretty awesome for Ofra.
10. What limited collab or product would you like to see? I would like to see more brands collab with smaller you Tubers. Yes, it’s great that they got the bigger ones but the smaller ones need some boosts too because they buy the brands all thanks to the bigger ones and try them out on their channels or blogs and getting that support like with the bigger YouTubers can help them get more subscribers after having their work checked out. Yes, being on a PR list is great but getting that collaboration chance would make it even better.
Well, those are my answers and it was pretty challenging because you never thought limited edition would be thought about until now. We always hear “Limited Edition” all over the place and we know it’s not really for some things. But these were my answers and I hope you enjoy it!

Next post is my Ipsy for July! I know, I said I was getting my first bag in August but apparently I’m getting one this month and I will explain that in that post! So follow us on Twitter for any updates about that @ Nerdy Shique! In the meantime guys, stay beautiful my nerds!

Interview with Apl De Ap from the Black Eyed Peas at the NFB National Convention!

Yes! I had the opportunity to interview the one and only Apl DeAp at this year’s NFB National Convention! I wanted to interview him since I didn’t know he was visually impaired until I read the email sent through the Email list with the NFB and pondered about it and asked about having an interview since he is not only visually impaired and got to ask about his experiences but also a Grammy Winning Artist on top of it since he was with the Black Eyed Peas for many years and has done great hits like “I’ve Got a Feeling” and “Let’s Get IT Started!” What did I ask him? You can click play in the YouTube frame and also if you want to find anything new on Mr. DeAp you can also click on the video to be taken to the YouTube Page and take a look at the video description and oh yes I will also include links around here to check out his Twitter and Charity!

Beauty: Do I Want It? Summer 2018

Hello all of my beautiful nerds traveling the vast universe! Today I have a new Anti-Haul Type post!

Do I Want It?

I feel like titling this segment “Do I Want It?” Because I feel like Anti-Haul is too much and everyone already uses “Pass or Buy!” Even “Bye or Buy!” With me, I will do it as “Do I Want It?” Let’s see what items I may want or not.

Urban Decay Born to Run Pallet: First is something from my favorite makeup brand and that is Urban Decay from the Prestige Side of my favorites though. I am a little torn because so far so good that the reviews have been pretty well. This pallet includes twenty-one shades and they have a few promotes from some of the other many shades like Smog which is in the Original Naked pallet and Blaze from Beached and the rest are new shades. This pallet claims to have different shades you can play with like rose golds, purple, forest green, and so much more. I have seen Coffee Break with Dani and Hot Mess Mama MD review this pallet and now I’m pondering if I want it? I know that I’m collecting the naked pallets but this pallet has shades that aren’t in those pallets and you can do so much with these shades even for concerts for the most part! I’m putting this in a maybe status since I am going to be collecting the last two naked pallets I haven’t gotten yet. Let’s see what Christmas brings.

Wet N Wild Zodiac Collection: Lately brands are coming out with many zodiac collections, I mean Bite Beauty is doing a Zodiac lipstick every month and now Wet N Wild is getting in on it and so far I am on the fence because I think the next brand I will be mentioning is going to have one soon too. This collection is based on the elements of Water, Fire, Air, and Earth and has bundles or you can get some of the items separately. As you know I am a Leo and the Fire Bundle is already sold out which makes me sad a bit because knowing me I would get that one but might get some things separately instead since Gondar’s is a Capricorn and he is a water sign. I am not entirely sure as of now since I do love the Limited Edition Sets from Wet N Wild and you can get the items on the website and then get it in Walmart starting August 1st. It doesn’t say anywhere if this is their way of saying this is our fall collection or not but I am looking forward to a fall collection if there is going to be any after how much people loved the Midnight Mermaid stuff last year.

Colour Pop X Kathleen Lights Astrology Collection: Yes, Color Pop is getting in on the Astrology Collection with Kathleen Lights. I do support her work with Color Pop since I have the Dream Street Pallet, Lumier lipstick, Aquarius lip stick and lip gloss and this time it’s all out Astrology for her collection with them. I saw her video last night talking about this and what catches my eye is mostly the shadow pallet because it features a lot of colors based on the zodiac signs and they do go well with each other. I do love the shadow she has chosen for Leo, my sign, because it makes sense with the gold and orange reflects and don’t have a color like that! Plus The Scorpio has me at hello because it is a burgundy purple shade instead of burgundy red. I wished she did go with burgundy red because I do wear the Naked Heat pallet a lot which you have to keep away from my paws before I hit pan. But when she explained why she went with more of a purple, I can deal with that especially with what I can do with that and the brown shades in this pallet and the Capricorn since that is an interesting shade she did with that one. I definitely want this pallet. I might go with one of the Lux lipsticks since I did get two of those before and I am loving them so far since they aren’t as bad as the liquid lipsticks I have tried and they are easier to control, who knows what I want to get from this collection but the eye shadow pallet is what I want!

NYX Cosmetics Midnight Chaos Shadow Pallet: Do I really want this thing!? I am not entirely sure because I kind of feel like Hot Topic has beaten NYX to the punch with having the edgy shadows such as the Midnight Unicorn, Unicorn Blood, and the Galaxy pallets which I do have. Even though they keep on saying that they are duo-chromatic but it doesn’t have me at hello really unless I see this thing in person probably in the NYX Store where I can swatch and play around a little and have the girl or guy working describe it to me. Plus, it’s $21 for ten shadows when I remembered when NYX’s pallets were really affordable especially with my Dream Catchers that I still have and still made. I am mostly waiting for the Machinist Collection that Beauty News talked about since it’s supposed to be a steam punk themed collection and you know me I love my steam punk stuff and want to see that collection now over this thing, I’m sorry NYX! Again Hot Topic has beaten you.

Colour Pop All Star Prep & Set Duo: Hmmm, this one…I am not entirely sure if I want both. I think I might do the setting spray in this duo since I use the moisturizing face primers due to my face being so dry but I think the setting spray has me more interested since I do use the Wet N Wild Matte Spray. So pass on the primer and maybe on the spray since they sell them separately!

I think that’s good for this set of products since I feel like there have been so many new things coming out and so little time due to how fast 2018 has gone by. Before I know it Holiday Matsuri will be here! So yes, I do have some ideas if I want any of these things since I am on the fence about the new Urban Decay and the new Wet N Wild Zodiac Collection. Who knows what August will bring or even September, let’s see what happens! So make sure to follow us on Twitter @ Nerdy Shique for all of the latest updates! Until next time!

Beauty: What FIve Things I Would Save In A Fire?

Hello all my beautiful nerds traveling the vast universe! Today is going to be a new tag!

What Five Makeup Products I Would Save In Fire?

So, today, I watched a video by Just Call Me Jo on YouTube which I just subscribed to all thanks to Danielle Schmidt and now watching Danielle’s video and this tag deals with what five things I would save from a fire? Now I’m hearing “fire” by Arthur Brown in my head especially with one specific line that goes, “You lost all you saved and earned…” Anyways, so it’s interesting to see what a blind person has to say with a huge makeup collection but these are five items I would save.

. Ulta Be Gorgeous Set: This is the first product I would grab first because it is one of my shelves and this is a set I can’t stop touching and well it’s no longer available. It has all of the things I need which there is a ton of shadows, also has bronzer, blush, and highlight, even my gel liners and a few pencil liners and lip products! I better grab the flash drive with my pallet guides then!
L’Oréal Voluminous Miss Manga Mascara: The mascara I would save is the L’Oréal Miss Manga Mascara! This is my ride or die because it is my top fave cosplay item and it makes my lashes look amazing and yes I can replace it but this is one that I would run out with! Can’t help it if it’s my all-time fave mascara either!
Black Moon Cosmetics Moonlighter in Shroom: I just got this recently and it looks stunning on me and that is my Shroom Moonlighter from Black Moon Cosmetics because of how beautiful it is! I was hoping to get Squid from this line but it sold out at Riley Rose which sucked but this one was my second choice if that happened. It does have a bit of glitter but not to the point of pooping it since I can put a brush easily into the compact and put it on my cheek bones!
Both Urban Decay Naked Heat and Petite Heat Pallets: I know this is slightly cheating but Jo did have six items but I would have these together and they are the Petite Heat and the Naked Heat pallets from Urban Decay. I’m trying to collect all of the naked pallets from Urban Decay at the moment and my birthday is coming up soon and have two left to get but these two have my faves out of all the ones that have been released, even more than the Naked 2 Basics. The mini pallets really got me to collecting since I use those for interview makeup and when I had my work experience, heck I hit pan pretty hard on the final shade of the Naked 2 Basics and bought another during Pre-Employment, so yeah on my second one on that and the first one may follow suit but later. These two in particular are very unique despite how warm toned they are but very versatile. Yes, people have complained about too many warm pallets but you can create a lot of looks plus the Petite Heat is a supplement where you have colors that did not appear in its original counterpart especially with the orange! I would grab these two since I can’t keep my paws off of them!
Wet N Wild Foundation in Buff Bisque: My final item is of course the Wet N Wild Photo Focus Foundation in Buff Bisque! I know over the years I raved about Almay’s foundation from the Clear Complexion line but this one beats it out of the water because the applicator is simple and you don’t have to pump out so much which you just spread all over the face and I buff it in with my beauty sponge! Plus, it’s very affordable and my skin just matches perfectly with this shade. Speaking of tools…
Coastal Scents Vanity Affair Brush Set: I’m going to pop in one more item before I end this post or shall I say before my runner ups! I would so grab this brush set first since I can’t go without brushes and my suitcase of loose brushes would be too heavy and that’s the Brush Vanity Affair Set from Coastal Scents! Reason being is that I had watched this set on Coastal Scents for years until it went on sale but found it on Amazon a few months back for $9.99 plus free shipping and grabbed it since it was the last one. And Coastal Scents put it on sale for half off. What the heck? Oh well, but this set does have all the brushes I need from powder to foundation and all the eye brushes I need. I can just get the Real Techniques sponge at Ulta real quick!

Runner Ups: Can’t go without a few runner ups!

Hot Topic Black Beauty Galaxy Shadow Pallet: First is something from my fave store Hot Topic and that is the Galaxy shadow pallet which is in the original huge packaging! This shadow pallet is unique and it has more out of this world colors and I admit I’m not afraid of playing with color time to time!
NYX Dream Catcher Pallets: My most favorite pallets from NYX are the Dream Catcher pallets which are Dusk to Dawn, Golden Horizon, and Stormy Skies which I love all three and they are so pigmented! Plus these are the cheaper pallets that NYX has released since. I saw the newest one and ten shadows for close to $30? Say what?
MAC’s Warm Soul Blush: I’m so addicted to this blush and it became a major staple in most looks!
L’Oréal Lumi Bronze It In Light: This has become a favorite bronzer and it’s hard to not wanting to use it but it always ends up in my hands like the next item!
Physician’s Formula Butter Bronzer in Light: This is a bronzer I wear a lot since it is so natural and the smell is amazing!
Curve Chill perfume: Even though I’m running low at the moment but I would grab my bottle of Curve Chill! This perfume is the cleanest smell in the Curve line because I tend to love clean smelling perfumes and it’s not that heavy of a scent either. Plus Curve was one of my first perfumes but it was Curve Crush and I do have a bottle of that along with Kick, Appeal, and Wave.
Burberry Brit Perfume: Last runner up and another perfume and that is Burberry Brit which has been a big staple fragrance in my perfume collection! Everyone at the Blind Rehab Center always knows me by this scent due to it being a unique vanilla spice scent and I’m a unique person that everyone meets.

Well, that’s about it for this post! It was hard to narrow down some items since I do have a big collection of makeup and it does continue to grow! I am glad that Danielle Schmidt and so many other YouTubers have done this tag so I can do this post. If I were to tag anyone, definitely Vivi! Your turn! I want to see what you have to say! I will get the interview with Apl D Ap up as soon as she finishes looking at it in case if it needs editing and more things to come! I haven’t been posting as much since I’m going through a lot of books and I’m also still going through the JAWS Certification so I can pass that before I start my Grad Certificate Program so hang in there! In the meantime, make sure you follow us over on Twitter @ Nerdy Shique for any latest updates like if I finished anything in my Project Pan! Until next time! Stay beautiful my nerds!

Beauty: Project Pan Update 2018 Number 2!

Hello all my beautiful nerds traveling the vast universe, I am back with a Project Pan Update! I decided to do this since I have added a few things and hitting dents on others and of course took out some things.

Project Pan 2018 Update 2

So, I haven’t been doing much progress since I have been using some of my other items in my collection and got a few new ones along the way but can say this…

Making Dents in Wet N Wild Stuff: Since I mentioned I’m trying to use up more of my older pallets from Wet N Wild the good news is that I’ve been making some dents in some of my items. I have made dents in my Shimmer the Night Away from the Where’s the Party collection which was a holiday collection from either 2011 or 2012 and I remembered I had a hard time finding this all over. None of the Walgreens…wait it was 2012 because I remembered the Be Jeweled collection never made it to Orlando stores and had to go on EBay along with this pallet. I hated at the time when they never brought Limited Edition to all the stores even in Orlando, you have to live in certain parts of the United States since I remembered Eleventh Gorgeous was able to get the Be Jeweled collection in their area while here they released other stuff not those including Where’s the Party collection. I was pissed but now they bring Limited Edition stuff to stores here which is great. Anyways, I made a good dent in the navy shade in this pallet and did use the I’m His Breezy Five Pan last week to match my blue shirt during the NFB Convention and that had some considerable dents I’ve made over time despite how pigmented it was and wasn’t since these five pans were kind of disastrous since I did toss out Floral Values since that had no pigment at all. This is why you should test to see if the pigmentation is amazing before releasing but I think Wet N Wild has been doing that since their new formulated shadows have been great even with the newer ones in the Flights of Fancy Collection have been great. Let’s see, I also used Blue Had Me at Hello which I am making a dent in the lid shade on the second side of that one so yeah making some progress there!

ELF Disney Villains: I have made a few dents in these three but not as much. I did hit slight pan in the maleficent one on the bottom row, making huge dents on the top row of Evil Queen while Cruella, which the first one I was got, not so much! I guess I loved Maleficent and Evil Queen’s eye shadows more than Cruella but I know I will get into Cruella at some point.

One Night in Morocco: I have made considerable dents on the bottom row of this shadow pallet. I will eventually finish this pallet in the near future.

What I’ve taken Out: I took out the Avon trio I had in this because I have a green skirt I can wear this trio with and it’s very matte.

What I’ve added:

Now I added a few things and they are…

Any Eye Shadows or Lip Glosses from Ipsy and Boxy Charm: I am going to announce here that I have re-subscribed to Ipsy because I am admitting it that I missed it way too much and after the whole Yes Oh Yas Box thing and seeing that Ipsy has sent me another invite email I decided to go back. I’m excited to get my August bag since that was the month I officially started with the bags and the bags are multi-purpose use which makes it even better. So, I decided with any old shadow samples I’ve gotten from them or Boxy Charm’s little points shop I will be using those up. I feel like they’ve been shut up for so long in a past bag that they need to be used up. Plus Vivi did give me two lip glosses she had gotten since she doesn’t like lip gloss so I took those and I only have two so those will be easy to finish up. Also, I will be posting my Ipsy unbaggings and thoughts here since this is where I had the most response on those and to tell you the truth guys, I have missed you all liking my posts even those since those posts got me the most traffic here. Be glad they will be back, I may wait until later to get back with Boxy Charm due to budgeting reasons. It will happen.

My Kat Von D Lip Items: Yes, you already know that I am one of the people who will be using up my Kat Von D Lippies and not buying stuff from her anymore due to the news about her Instagram post. Plus, still kind of ticked with how much she has treated Makeup Revolution due to them “copying every inch” of her Shade & Light pallet. Reason why for the quotes, they can’t copy her artwork, read my post about the whole dupes thing. Plus, in all honesty looking back on it her stuff is so drying for the lips. I remembered wearing Wolf most recently and it is so uncomfortable which means I know it’s there while other liquid lipsticks I have tried they don’t feel like they’re there as in the Soft Matte Lip Creams, Liquid Suedes, Cosmic Metals, even the Metallic Liquid Suedes from NYX, the Cat Suits from Wet N Wild, and even Black Moon Cosmetics don’t feel like they’re there either as in they are so comfy and prefer these over Kat Von D’s since I wore Eternal all last week up to the job fair. Yes, that was even with the lip primer with Wolf. And not only that, a lot of the brands in drugstores even Mac are starting to get the bold colors even Ofra has a black liquid lipstick in their Liquid Lipstick Line called Bronx and those are also comfortable. So, yeah I will be using up Echo, Wolf, and my Ion lipstick up and won’t buy from KVD again. And before anyone says anything, Kat was a great person and she stood up for a lot of things but she has gotten to the point to being way to controversial even with this Instagram post and here is the thing she didn’t look on the net about is that there is a vegan alternative to the flu vaccine and of course there are vegans out there that do get their kids vaccinated and them themselves so we won’t go through the dark days of really harmful diseases and the autism thing was debunked too. I am just saying this before anyone gets on my case since those are my own thoughts on the subject and will be finishing my products from her and I can find cheaper dupes at the drugstore of the bold colors now which is great on most companies parts.

Well, that’s it with that update, I know it was short but I have been using new products and playing around with new looks even have a few new ones in the works that are based on songs and can’t wait to test out. I know the last bit bot a bit deep but had to put my thoughts out there on one subject. So there you go. Just make sure you follow us on Twitter @ Nerdy Shique since a lot more is in store for this blog! In case if anyone is wondering since AFO is the first week of August, unfortunately we didn’t get press again. I know it sucks but it’s due to audience participation this time as in not enough subscribers on YouTube even though we still get comments on the Attack on Titan Cast Panel from 2015 to this day! Oh boy, I can imagine when the Apl D Ap interview goes up. Anyways, that is that announcement! So, til next time and stay beautiful!

Conventions: National Federation of the Blind National Convention 2018 Review!

Hello to all of my beautiful nerds traveling the vast universe, I am back from a nice rest because I was at the NFB National Convention last week and man it was a huge experience and a new environment since I never thought I would be at a convention minus the costumes that I am usually familiar with but I was in my element since I’m visually impaired myself. Let’s see what I have to say about this event. But first as always…

Disclaimer: This review is based on thoughts and opinions of the lead writer of this blog! Please Respect the thoughts and opinions since this based on the experience they went through.

Location: First is the location and that is at the Rosen Shingle Creek and man this place was bigger than the Rosen Center itself despite that one was also connected to the Convention Center downtown on International Drive. If you remembered when Gondras and I covered Omni Fandom Expo 2015 it was at the Rosen Center and you had the events on the bottom floor and top floor while Rosen Shingle Creek felt like it was like the World Center in my observation because a ton of ballrooms to work with, plus you have more panel rooms upstairs to use right above the lower lobby and then more escalators leading to more board rooms and a printing store, oh yes you can print stuff if you need it which I had to with my resume for the Job Fair, which I will get to a bit later. Plus you do have the food court which is a little pricey, I did have my snacks but I needed a caffeine recharge since their coffee shop was reasonably priced, even more reasonable than Starbucks. I would say the white chocolate lattes are great. Anyways, this place should be an anime convention place too because conventions do out grow their location, heck Holiday Matsuri is a good example of that, since there are tons of rooms to play with and even the main ballroom in the Sebastian areas were huge for General Sessions and held all of the State Affiliates of the NFB. Even the Independence Market and Exhibitors Hall was very well sized for what they were displaying and selling, which I will got to…

Exhibitors and Independence Market: Now! This room was pretty much where my money went because I found stuff I needed and found very well. I know it’s weird calling it Independence Market but it’s due to vendors selling items to help us in the blind community to be more independent such as books, tech, and even Braille slates! I found a vendor who sold my favorite full page slate which I still have from EBay. The main thing I wanted was a new watch because my old taking one had the talking part die permanently. Let me describe it, it not only has the digital numbers but it does have its talking setting where you can set the time, the alarms, and now you change the voice on the talking models now from when I looked at them. I decided to change to Braille because the thing is as a convention and concert goer, especially with one concert coming up in August, it’s hard to hear these things over the noise and not only that they can go off if you set the hour alert and can be a bit disruptive. So, I went with Braille and it was kind of hard to set the time on this but I like how to touch the watch face and where the hour and minute hands point to at the dots. Which on the clock face you have the 1, 2, 4, 5, 7, 8, 10 and 11 are single dots while the 3, 6, 9, and 12 have more of a wedge to touch while feeling the time. Plus it makes it better than just using my phone which I have done for the past year and a half to two years. Plus, this watch I paid for was not that bad because you have some going into the hundred dollar to two hundred range which I went with the $55 and a tip for women who love to grow their nails, go with the men’s model because the watch face is bigger and it’s easier to feel when you have long nails. I had long nails when I bought mine even though they broke during the entire week I was there and had to clip mine but getting the men’s version would be easier to feel since the women’s watch faces are smaller and the dots are too. Just letting you know. Besides buying different items for the independence part, I had to replace my battery for my Victor Reader Stream, for a while now I ran into the issue where I touched the battery and it shuts off and had to order a new one. I was glad that Human Ware was there to take care of that which they were promoting their Stream, the Stream Trek, and the Braille Note Touch. If you don’t know what the Braille Note Touch is, it’s basically where you take a Braille display and fuse with an Android tablet where you have the display and the keyboard on top of an Android tablet and you can also Braille on the tablet too. I almost went with this Polaris had my heart and yes HIMS was also there which I will talk about that with events next.

I did go to the State Affiliates area where in this area all the different NFB State Chapters were selling things to fund raise and you also get to talk to them one on one and get to meet who else is out there. I did buy some things and got to chat with Massachusetts since I was born in Boston and they were happy, I got to chat with Arizona since I will be starting at Northern Arizona in the fall and they are some of the nicest people, also even got a popcorn ball from Nebraska since they claim to have the best popcorn in the United States and they weren’t joking! I got a popcorn ball and they said it is soft and tastes like marshmallow and it does! If I go to Nebraska I must visit their popcorn shops and get more of these because normally around Halloween time when Brach’s does their popcorn balls they are hard cement! Not kidding. These from Nebraska, I highly recommend if you ever visit Nebraska or go to their State Conventions or even the NFB National. I also did get to meet Hawaii briefly because my brother was stationed there and they are also sweet too! I did have a bit of situation with charging banks from Alabama though. As you know, I had a Pikachu one from Think Geek which GameStop sold during Hurricane Irma time and somehow it did not like my Apple devices and wanted to get a better one since you know me and traveling especially with our convention travels and when I heard that chargers will be sold I went and asked about that on Day Three and found them at Alabama, the one that I was sold was not working right and even with the cords so I did exchange it and did lose the cords because they fell out of my bag somehow but the good news is the one that got exchanged works properly even with a new cord I got on EBay and got in the mail today. I can even recharge my Polaris with this thing with its own USB cord. But back to the story, even though I was sad, I decided to find New York since they also had one and they had two left and I was lucky to get theirs as well and that thing charged my Victor Reader Stream! So yes, I now have two charge banks and working because of Alabama and New York, which I must thank now and if I was out somewhere and one doesn’t work without any juice I do have a backup and also my friends can use since there are times where outlets aren’t always in close range even at a restaurant.

Another thing I did pick up which I was really excited about was from the National Braille Press! This is an organization that prints Braille books and sells them and not bad for pricing either and the books are for all ages because I felt a Dr. Seuss book while I was at their table. I got a book that I heard about through the Blind Side Podcast through an interview with the author Judy Dixon and it is called Writing Your Way: Composing and editing on an IPhone and IPad. This interview was very informative because it talks about the many ways you can edit on writing apps on your IPhone and IPad, I wonder about Android tablets since I do use my Polaris and Galaxy Tab E. I have to take a read myself and I was happy that they carried this at the convention and did buy it so I can have it and can use it as a teaching tool while working. I highly suggest National Braille Press in case if you need that specific Braille book for your loved ones or even as gifts for them because we don’t want to leave anyone in the dark without a good book! I may have to talk to them and see about getting my books in Braille, what about that?

Besides some of these companies, there were also Google showing off their tech which I want to get myself a Chrome Book since I got to test out Chrome Vox on them and of course wishing they had Google Play cards which I will talk about down in the Needs in Improvements area for one thing. Also, a new app has been developed for locations which is like Soundscape but more in detail called N Reach and I have become an affiliate with them by the way, which I need to get my cards out to businesses. (Tried to on Monday at the mall but couldn’t get the chance!) And one awesome exhibitor is 3D Photo Works who does tactile photos, Braille plaques, and audio descriptions for exhibits and they are trying to get into more museums, which reminds me I need to still talk to the Science Center because this would help any blind visitors be able to feel the photos that are displayed, read the plaques, and not only that hear any information because at their booth they talked about how they helped with the Vietnam Exhibit in Washington and had three pictures as examples. If you want these guys to do something a museum near you, I would suggest talking to the museum and have them get in contact with this company because a blind person like me can’t see the exhibits, the last exhibit I was able to see was the Tiffany Glass Exhibit here in town and I can imagine what if their exhibit had these plaques and this kind of tactile work on top of it. There is a lot to think about with this company.

Events: Woot! A lot to talk about here and I feel my fingers hurting slightly! I am still pumped! There were a lot of events to go to and so little time because a lot of them took place at the same time and a good tip is choose wisely while reading the agenda in its final form. Which the good thing was you can download and store it for your pleasure. I downloaded, nice tip for everyone with a Braille device, the Word document and transferred it over onto my Braille Sense Polaris so I can feel it if I need to. I should do that with all of the convention guidebooks or if I get KNFB Reader I can take pictures of it too.

Day 1 was more seminar day where you can meet some of the companies that will be there in the Exhibitors Hall and of course in the morning there was also parent meetings for any blind parent or parents with blind children to discuss tips and advice and many other things even talking about the day care services that were going to be on site. I went to the HIMS Seminar since I do have my Polaris and of course discussed some issues with the typing in Word Processor where I and other people experienced where the cursor moved time to time. This was annoying while taking notes on the JAWS Certification materials. Also some issues with navigating the Google Suite editing areas. Hoping that can be fixed even with the next updates.

The next few days were filled with General Sessions where the president, Mark Rickabono, talked about many things that the NFB has been working on to improve our lives as blind people, heck even his speech almost put me in tears because I faced so much back in school, I still remember how I was taken out of my Exceptional Education Minor to be in my Writing Minor because I was told how I can’t make it through Grad School because it would be too hard for me, heck I am going now! I didn’t stay for resolutions on Saturday, well the end of it, because it was going to be a long ways through it and I felt that I was falling asleep, heck I fainted a bit after Friday’s session let out. It’s due to exhaustion since I did commute with paratransit and had to be there in time for the first General Session. And of course, we did find out where next year NFB Convention is was going to be for National and that is in Las Vegas, Nevada at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino! Knowing Nevada is happy about that! Hoping I can save enough to go out there or get a Master’s to try for the NFB National Scholarship again which this convention did inspire me to look into more schooling if I can because what if I want to continue with my education? Let’s see what’s happens!

More things took place, heck I even volunteered at the Braille Book Fair which takes place during the convention where kids and their parents can look through many Braille books and take them and have them sent home to where they live via UPS. I felt really good volunteering at this because I love reading even if it is in Braille and having that experience to help out did help me have the one on one with kids and their parents, I even gave tips to a woman who had a girl who went through a stroke and needed tips on getting her dexterity back. Plus it gave me leverage before I start teaching blind people again and I felt more of my confidence again as I helped. And to tell you the truth, I missed volunteering for things like these since it gives me experience and a bigger heart as I help.

Let’s see what else happened! Oh right! Friday night, Gondras met up with me and besides meeting up with me we had an amazing experience and that was…: drum roll: we got to interview Apl D Ap from the Black Eyed Peas! :: hears fans screaming:: I wanted to interview him since an interesting fact is that he’s visually impaired and was performing this year and this was a great opportunity to get someone who has been in the music business who is also blind in on the YouTube side of this blog since it’s a nice change from our voice actors we get to interview and we get to learn more about him. Just hold on and follow us on Twitter @ Nerdy Shique when we upload the video from this interview along with more information about his own charity, Apple of My Eye, hoping I spelled that right, and so much more! And other people I got to meet were the developers of the Be My Eyes app which as you may have seen my Assistive Tech Panel from Omni 2017 where I demonstrated this app, will I have a future interview with them? I will be in the works of setting that up to do it over Skype since they are from Denmark which made it interesting even with one of them having my eye condition on top of it. I did demonstrate it on my Polaris and it works as much as the Apple version. I did Tweet them about it too. And finally, I got to go to Google’s presentation on their tech because I wanted to see what’s new in their development in Accessibility even with Android. Again, I want a Chrome Book after this presentation because I want to be open minded in the tech and they are also developing an app that is like Seeing A. I. almost and maybe I should write about that one as well if I can test it on my tablet or on my Polaris so stay tuned for that! I didn’t go to Microsoft’s presentation because I had so much to do in between and Google did their presentation at the same time, but Microsoft did a repeat and I only got to their Narrator portion. I did hear how their presentation focused more on the Narrator side rather than Soundscape and Seeing A. I. which I heard that demo for Seeing A. I. was not as great. Okay Microsoft, you do awesome presentations at E3, what’s going on? If I was there and demonstrating Seeing A. I., I would do all of the channels on it because it is critical to show off each one even with currency. And of course, if you guys were at that presentation, I would say go to my posts about Soundscape where I tested it in two malls so far and I did test it out in Shingle Creek which it did detect the area I was in. And finally, my finishing event, I did go to the job fair but briefly since I did have to catch my ride. It was loud! But at least I got to talk to the NFB and the New Jersey Coalition for the Blind about the Access Tech positions on top of it and did find Lighthouse Central Florida since they were also looking for people. It felt great to re-connect with them and give them updates.

Rating: CONVENTION ACCOMPLISHED! This convention deserves a Convention Accomplished because it kind of makes me connect more with my blind peers in one place. Even though I missed the costume parts but this was a different environment and a new aspect of conventions. This brings a huge community together and get to know each other, what is going on with us in one huge organization, not only that make us think that we’re not the only one being blind even in our own state. I got to meet people from Nebraska, Arizona, Hawaii, heck there was Puerto Rico as one of the NFB Affiliates! Wishing I caught one of the members but hey I cheered for them along with Arizona and Massachusetts. Plus, I found out that I am not the only blind cosplayer that exists because one of the National Scholarship Finalists was one too! She makes her own stuff and I got to meet her which was awesome! I want to suggest that the NFB should have a Geeky Division because we are blind geeks/nerds. That is why there is nerd in this blog’s name. Still, this convention was very inspiring and I hope to go to more of them even if they end up in Georgia, Massachusetts, even in Louisiana if Gondras and I get to travel that far.

Needs for Improvements: Well, not all conventions are perfect so there are some needs for improvement.

Microsoft Demo All Aspects Of Accessible Products: What I mean by this is that I heard that not all of the aspects of seeing A. I. was not tested and well that got me thinking why aren’t demonstrating all the aspects of products. I did notice that Narrator was tested in all aspects and knowing they want to show that it’s a free screen reader but to me Microsoft has way more stuff to it and that it can be demonstrated more from what I heard.
Repeat the Demonstrations throughout the Week: What I mean by this is that I noticed that according to the agenda that Microsoft was the only one who got a repeat because not everyone can go to every demonstration in the agenda. I think this would benefit anyone who couldn’t make it to the Google one and can go to the second showing since one day they were at the same time as Microsoft and that would be nice if it was vice versa for anyone who wanted to see Google but didn’t get to. Repeating the brand demonstrations can help with the overload and can give more options to people in what to do after the General Sessions are done. Plus, it gives the person what they missed a new opportunity to catch it later if they have something else to go to or needs to eat.
Time Slots Should Be More Organized: What I mean is that there were times where some things ran over during General Sessions or that when I get to an area that the time changed and etc. I know the final agenda is published way in advanced but they should at least confirm some of the time slots to be accurate and edit the agenda before the convention probably two weeks before because I noticed that some things ran over or an example I was supposed to volunteer at 1 in the afternoon for the Braille Book Fair but I had to go back at 3:45 for the actual event. I think it would be easier to either edit the agenda to fit the time slots or during the presentations, like Google did, set a timer for each speaker because some of them ran over and doing the timer thing can help out a little. If you have to be up on the stage for fifteen minutes then set that timer and not only that, if you know your event starts late then send a group email to the newsletter since some people do check their emails during the day whether it’s on the Polaris, Braille Note Touch, or on their phone they can read it and say, “Oh! It got pushed back! Gotcha!” I understand so many events so little time but starting on time makes more sense.
More Volunteers to Guide: What I mean is that I feel like there were volunteers to tell you where the escalators, stairs, and ballrooms were but there should’ve been more and they should’ve also given more details in where to go like this ballroom to your left or right and probably have some volunteers to able to say, “Hey, need some help! Grab on and I will lead you!” Heck, even for bathrooms because there were some bathrooms where there was single room and so many people were trying to get into them and it was hard to tell Women and Men from that one particular bathroom, would be nice to have someone standing and say, “Women’s Bathroom over here!” and vice versa since it was hard getting around when there were people with canes and dogs in one area. And also, didn’t know that I couldn’t sit in one part where it was to the side that was counted as foot traffic areas, should be nice to have volunteers warning us about that too because there was no mention of that as rules anywhere even if you were to the side or at least have volunteers asking, “Hey, do you need a seat? There are free seats over here.” Just saying!
Making Registration Easier to Navigate: I bring this idea up because while walking round the Registration Area we didn’t know where to go or how the lines were split. I heard there were ropes before, where were they? That would be easy or I gave this as an idea and that is Lego Tape on the ground. Oh yes, there is tape made with Legos that you can use to stick and build upon one on top of the other, it would help with the shoreline bit with getting around the Registration area instead of bumping into the ropes which I did before and it was not pleasant, it happened one year at an anime con by the way. People were surprised that it exists because Assistive Tech FAQS mentioned this as a way of building an ergonomic platform for a keyboard. NFB you should try it out for making shorelines for this area or even the Exhibitor’s Hall and the General Session and Presentation Rooms to help with finding exits and chairs.
Making Signs For Tourists: Another thing I have noticed is that a few stray tourists were hanging around the convention area that weren’t a part of the convention which I have asked directions. They didn’t know what I was talking about and realized that they weren’t there for the convention just sitting around. I understand that some tourists like to sit around but there are other areas for them to be in that is not the convention floor, as in they can be the food court area, the pool, and there was another side to the hotel, which this brings me to my last point and that is there should be signs for any stray wonderers telling them that a blind convention is being held in this hotel, like one sign would say, “Welcome to all tourists! There is a blindness convention this way! Try to help our patrons.” Because there are times where not all tourists know what event they are witnessing and not there for it, trust me I’ve seen it with anime conventions where people stayed at the hotel for theme parks and family but hang around the area which can be confusing even for a blind person. And the helping part, the tourist may be able to help if they had amap of the event to guide if need be for instance if someone had the map and I asked where registration was and they can say, “Oh, I have a map here that someone gave me, follow me.” It can make things a little easier since we can get lost and not everyone would know that they are in an area where people may need help in.

Well, I think that’s good enough here because I think I talked about so much when it came to this convention already. I think I smell smoke from my fingers. This convention was fun and sad to hear that it won’t be in Orlando for a while but hey at least people can travel to someplace they never been before. I hope to go to Vegas but if not you guys in Vegas and other parts of the country who are blind or knows someone who is blind to check it out and also be a member of the NFB because they believe in living the life you want since blindness doesn’t define you as a person. I want to thank the NFB of Florida for giving me the Dr. Jernagand Scholarship so I can be a part of this convention by attending it and getting to interview Apl D Ap and not only that getting to give my services to the Braille Book Fair. So, this hoping for the future especially with me since there are more things to explore and do for this blog and the YouTube Channel. So make sure you follow us on Twitter! Until next time!
