Conventions: Mega Force Panel!

Hello to all of my beautiful nerds traveling across the vast universe! I am back with another video for you from Ranger Stop this year!

Mega Force Five Year Anniversary Panel!

Can you believe it that it has been five years since Mega Force has been on air? Dang! Time has gone fast but when you look at it, Dino Charge and Ninja Steel has been the last two seasons that have aired.

Sorry if Voiceover is on during this or if not and sorry for not focusing the camera on the cast as well. Plus somehow my camera didn’t start recording until the point you see where it started with one of the girls speaking. I hope I got the parts where two of the guys were talking about the episode where they switched bodies and they started to act like each other because one of them does it very well and they started to do everyone on the cast. This was a pretty fun panel to go to and great to meet these guys as well since got to talk to them. I didn’t get to have interviews with any of them during the weekend due to how busy they were so hoping in the near future that we do have one over Skype with one of them. So stay tuned for that!

I hope you all enjoy this panel video and the next one is the Saban Era Meets Disney Era Panel where you get to see a lot of the Saban actors and Disney actors from Power Rangers in one panel. Stay tuned and follow our Twitter while you’re at it!

Conventions: The Villain, Mentor, and the Minion Panel!

Hello to all of my beautiful nerds traveling the vast universe! I am back with another post and it’s from Ranger Stop!

The Villain, Mentor, and the minion Panel!

The next panel is The Villain, The Mentor, and the Minion from Ranger Stop this year and it was a panel that I had to get onto YouTube. It featured Barbara Goodson, David Fielding, Peta-Marie Rickson, and Romy. Sharf, and I think Psycho Red was in this too from what I remembered. Anyways, this was entertaining since we got to hear the different stories especially how Peta had to recount how she as Alpha tried to fight Ivan Ooze during the Power Rangers Movie back from the 90’s and that she had her eyes covered and heard how they were going to blow things up around her. Scary thought right there.

And also, if you’re watching this and notice my camera is not focusing on anyone let me say this. This is from a comment someone had left on the In Space panel on YouTube about how I didn’t point my camera towards the cast but just the host and downwards. I am doing my best with this stuff and since I didn’t have Nerdy Shirts with me with the camera on the first two days, I had to rely on myself like when I started doing this press stuff. Reason why I put this stuff up since the comment did ask about that is because I want to bring awesome content to you guys who don’t get to go to these things and probably couldn’t make this year’s event so I put it up. Plus my left arm’s motor skills aren’t the best so I had to hold it up the best as I could. So please, I’m asking don’t get mad about how bad it looks. I do the best I can as someone who does press and at least you get to hear these people speak in this video and same with the others. I may not be Steve Saylor or Molly Berk but I am just Mari Blue Cat who does this stuff for you guys! I am dedicated to my work and I want to make it work! Thank you!

So, that’s it for this post, hope you enjoy this panel because the next one is the Mega Force Panel! Stay tuned!

Books: The Witch Of the Hills by. J. M. Fraser

Hello to all of my beautiful nerds traveling the vast universe! I am back and Happy Thanksgiving! Taking one break from the Ranger Stop coverage which I will get back to since I have been moving to a new place. I am there and my computer is working with my own internet connection and everything. So, let me get to the book review!

The Witch of the Hills by. J.M. Fraser

Disclaimer: This review is based on thoughts and opinions of the lead writer of this blog. Please respect her thoughts on this book and thank you!

What Is It About? An ancient prophecy compels a witch from the 1600s to recruit a modern boy to save the dream world. Rebecca Church goes into the dreams of a modern boy to have him save the interactive dream world that she lives in by sending him riddles, drawings, and visiting him in the real world but only can do it for nine times even though she has fallen for him.

When Brian Danahey meets Rebecca on a desolate road he recognizes her from a nightmare he has about a girl in danger. He falls in love with her and she disappears to haunt his dreams and he has to figure out how to see her again and he starts knowing her as the Witch of the Hills.

Thoughts: This book was a very well written tale and I felt like I was reading a version of Paprika but without the weird elements of Kohn like in that movie. I loved how the dream world was a mix of modern and going back in the past to the time before the witch trials of Salem were to begin since we get to see some witch and sorcerer elements in this book. I did like the riddle and poem elements because it does draw the mystery of who Rebecca really is since she did write in an ancient language.

I do like how Brian and Rebecca having chemistry with each other because of how they interacted with each other even within each dream. I did find some parts confusing like why does Brian always become the main link in all of this? Which does get explained towards the end of the book and what his family is and why they are an important link to it and I always wondered why Abigail was so horrible throughout this thing? Which was explained to have fallen under a curse that Rebecca had placed on her and another person which I noticed I haven’t heard much about throughout this entire story except when Brian first goes to Salem and then later finds out what happens to Rebecca and her mother and how they get sentenced by the coven they were a part of. This is still a good book and definitely recommend it!

Rating: 5 Star Paw Prints Out of 5! This was a really good story! The beginning to end did have an interesting twist and it played with the characters very well. It even had the idea of going between dreams and real life since we do see Brian switch between being a normal guy out of high school in college and falling in love with a girl of his dreams quite literally. This did have very interesting historical references to Salem and even Agatha Christy for one thing since I wasn’t expecting that. Maybe the author was a major fan of her writing? Who knows? I would definitely recommend it to my older readers because even though this is supposed to be a Young Adult book but it felt more like someone my age should read due to the college aspects and the historical stuff. Definitely pick it up when you get the chance!

Well that’s it for this review! It feels good to do another post on here since I have been so busy. Stay tuned tomorrow for the next Ranger Stop post! So, follow us on Twitter for that as The Witch of the Hills by. J. M. Fraserwell! Until next time! Stay beautiful while traveling the universe and Happy Thanksgiving!

Conventions: Power Rangers In Space: 25 Years Later!

Hello to all of my beautiful nerds traveling across the vast universe! I have been busy with my move since it’s going to take place tomorrow. Before I continue packing, I want to post at least one panel video for you all on here from Ranger Stop!

Power Rangers in Space: 25 Years After!

First panel up is the Power Rangers in Space panel! This season has been one of my favorites since it does continue from Turbo after Cordon gets taken. This season was also the end of the Cordon Era of Power Rangers since we already know what happens. If you’re new to this season, I would suggest to take a watch because it had a lot of stuff going on in this one even Ninja Turtles showing up. Not kidding! At the same time, the live-action Ninja Turtles series was going on at the same time and had a crossover with this season. It was weird but I’ve seen weirder in most anime and funnier too, I mean me and Gondras are watching Overlord for one thing but hey at least I had a blast watching this season. So enjoy this panel even with the ones who couldn’t attend Friday’s events which someone did comment about that. This blog has your back when it comes to panel videos!

That is it for this panel video! Next will be the Villain, Mentor, and Minion panel from Saturday! Stay tuned and make sure you follow us on Twitter @ Nerdy Shique to get that alert! Until next time! Stay beautiful while traveling the universe and also wish me luck at my new place while you’re at it!

Convention Impossible: RangerStop 6!

Hello to all of my beautiful nerds and welcome back from traveling the vast universe! It is time again for the Convention Spotlight!

Disclaimer: This review is based on thoughts, opinions, and observations from the lead writer of this blog. Please respect her thoughts on the convention and what she had observed!

Well, Ranger Stop 6 has come and gone and it’s that time again to review this convention!

Location: The Holiday Inn & Suites Across from Universal has been the same layout ever since I have been there as an attendee but I felt like the sighted help was better this time around. As in, when I got dropped off by Paratransit there were valets there helping and they guided me to where I needed to go for picking up my badge. The guy who sight guided me Friday asked me what my favorite season was even and told him it was Time Force and he told me they had Time Force Pink as a guest last year. I was kind of sad about that because tried getting press last year which I will get to that point later. Hoping she does come back again. Back on topic, volunteers did help me out in getting in and out of the convention as in the two sets of doors in where to go and guiding me around the barriers and even through the panel rooms! Way to go staff! I give you major props on this! Heck, even a cleaning lady helped me when my liquid lipstick was a bit askew.

Events: After learning my lesson from three years ago, I did show up on the first day a little before it opened and I think the events have gotten better as in not just having so many events for VIPs and letting regular attendees miss out on them. Now they have events in Panel Room B where you have to pay for a sit down meal or snack with your favorite ranger members, heck there was one with the ZyuRangers on Friday. Trust me, if I had the money right then I would have enjoyed S’mores with the RPM Gold and Silver Rangers or pancakes with Sean C. W. Johnson. Maybe next year if we do press again. Still the other panels in Panel Room A were the most jam packed because of what they had this year. For instance, the Power Rangers in Space: 25 Years after Panel was amazing and did record that one since it was one of my other favorite seasons. I did also attend many other panels like Let’s Henshin since it was a Kamen Rider panel that covers the series later on and knowing Gondras would fan boy over. He did show me V3 since we did find it on DVD during MegaCon. I think my favorite panel of all throughout the weekend would have to be the Saban Meets Disney Era one because we got to have cast mates from both sides of the Saban series of seasons with the Disney ones due to how Disney bought Power Rangers from Wild Force all the way through RPM. I did get to ask a question since at one point in the video you do see me heading towards the line, I would say if you would do a MST3K bit at home just sound like you’re on a rollercoaster since I was using my camera on my phone and carried it with me to the microphone which was actually nice and easier than having someone run from one area of the room to the next like three years ago. What did I ask? You have to watch that video! And yes, I did go to Rangers after Dark, can’t say much except don’t tick off Jason Mamoa.

Guests: The guests this year were very friendly and sweet. They were surprised that I was blind and doing press at the thing because well like most times the cane is not visible until I point at it. I did get a little shy, I know Nerdy Shirts did point out on Sunday why should I be shy when I interview people? Valid question but sometimes it does happen because I will explain here that seeing all these people when I was a kid and on Net Flix in their respective seasons is a little exciting but it can also be a little overwhelming at times and I think, Crap! What do I say!? Even though there are times where my hat or shirt speaks for me as in they get noticed. Yes, was wearing my RWBY hat since well I don’t have one for Power Rangers anywhere. In case if you were wondering, I did talk to Barbara Goodson and was wearing “Make My Monsters Grow” shirt and she loved it! What made it funnier was Friday, I was wearing my Lost Galaxy Red shirt and apparently if I have it right but Christopher Kayman Lee was also wearing one and we were twins! Thank you Mr. Photographer, I am still waiting for that pic since I did hand him my card. Christopher did like the shirt I wore Sunday which was Dead Pool punching a shark, I would make the joke that it was the Shark Zord from Ninja Storm but was telling him that would be easier to interview him over Skype since this convention was pretty busy for them and it is our back up interview area, I did interview some people thought but have to wait!

Did I meet up with Austin St. John and Walter Jones? Yes! I did find something awesome among my items in a box of stuff from the attic was a Mighty Morphen Black Ranger plush. The story behind it was that I won this during a set of games at an event called Disney Days At the Park and they had Power Ranger dolls as prizes for the kids and I think I was around ten at the time and won one of the Black Ranger ones and was happy to find it again and thought to show it to Walter and he was surprised I had something like it. I wished to get it signed but it does cost for an autograph but at least I shown it to him. Still a nice guy like Austin.

I did get to meet the Mega Force crew since it has been five years since the series had ended and they were nice people. I hope to get them on Skype for an interview! Did also meet the Alpha suit wearers which were Peta-Marie from the 1995 movie and Romy who was the one from the show and Romy and I talked about Richard Horvitz since he voiced Alpha. These two did get asked what they thought about the 2017 movie from last year like everyone else and you will get to see that in the Villain, the Mentor and Minion panel video. I did ask Sean C. W. Johnson about the call back to Mariner Bay by the way which you will also get to see that.

I didn’t get to meet up with Yoshi from Dino Charge since I met him briefly three years ago when the show was still going on nor did get to meet his brother, Peter, who took up the Blue Ninja Steel mantle. Well, too be fair so many fans were meeting everyone and didn’t know where they were but at least I got to meet everyone even had an anime discussion with some people and explained what RWBY was for a few people. I did have one major meaningful moment but want to wait towards the end.

Vendors: Sorry guys, due to the move I didn’t buy anything since I wanted to save money in case if I had to pay for my power deposit or need to get groceries just in case and yes there were nice, pretty shiny things but I had to keep myself from buying anything. I did get some buttons that were made for the guests and that they were giving away and got a few for my Polaris strap since it would tell my Polaris apart from other Braille devices people may have while working. I know with most conventions I would have a small haul with what I bought but my move was more important at the moment but maybe next year or during Holiday Matsuri since this year is going to be a Christmas Gift Shopping bit for Gondras.

Verdict: CONVENTION ACCOMPLISHED! Reason for this is because I had a blast this time around not only doing press but getting to meet and know some of the guests too. I had a lot of fun at the panels and glad that the convention and hotel staff helped me out. I also thank Nerdy Shirts taking his Sunday to join up with me to record the interviews as always and hoping next year GOndras gets to join in on the fun because I want to do press again! Why is that? Well, since I did mention a very touching moment is that I did even impressed Tracy Lynn Cruz, who played Space Yellow, and Audrey Dubois, who did play Trini in the pilot for Mighty Morphen and that I was seen as inspirational towards them. Yes, despite the blindness it can be a tough thing but in the end I am doing something that not all blind people think of doing or probably step out to do. Doing this press stuff gives me a purpose and showing that even though you’re disabled you can find a way around obstacles in getting content out there on YouTube, Word Press, Tumblr, and other places and passing that torch onto someone who wants to do it too is even more rewarding. I mean I gave advice to a new writer who was talking to Christopher Kayman Lee about his own story and we kind of got confused and asked questions and then gave my own advice about fleshing out the story more and when I was done Christopher goes, “There you go.” It felt thrilling and at the same time that I can be that mentor to others to show that things are possible. Hoping no water works but hey it felt amazing. I will take it to heart and put it into my work coming up soon and a warning for my interview with Audrey you may need tissues. And now…

Needs for Improvement: Which is Just a Press Form! I think this is the only need for improvement because I feel like it would help out. It’s nice to email someone that is doing press but emails do get lost and sometimes end up in the Spam Folder and doesn’t get seen. When I contacted about press last year no response and it took a bit for this year. Trust, I didn’t give up on this one and glad to add this convention to our experience. I did explain the reasons behind it with the heads for this convention and did point out that we do live in the age of tech so using sites for making forms and adding it to the website can make it easier in finding out who are the press teams that are signing up and what they do and plus it makes it less of a mess trying to find an email or two when you et the forms on a certain server to look at. I mean all the other cons do it like Omni Fandom Expo, MegaCon, even the guys at MetroCon sent me theirs when I did press for them years ago, even MythiCon when they were around did it. Just have a form it would be so much easier!

Well, that is it for this Convention Spotlight. I bet you’re wondering, “Do we want to do press again?” HELL yeah! I mean of course! I would even drag Gondras if I have to since he needs to experience this himself!

Anyways, stay tuned for all of the videos including interviews and panels from this year’s event! So, follow us on Twitter for the latest updates! Until next time, stay beautiful while traveling the universe!

Television: How I Watch Power Rangers As a Blind Person!

Hello to all of my beautiful nerds, I am back but this is a re-write to a post I had done and tried posting but somehow things didn’t appear. Let’s try this again shall we?

How I Watch Power Rangers As A Blind Person!

As you know I was at Ranger Stop 6 this past weekend and after meeting so many cast members from the vast series, I was inspired to write something.

Three years ago before I got the Press Pass, I remembered how I was meeting Jason Fond from Time Force and he asked about how I was able to watch Power Rangers as a blind person. I did give him a short answer but will go into more detail right now!

The Tone of Voice: As someone who has really good hearing, being able to tell the characters apart in how they sound give a different idea of who is good and who is evil. One example is Rita Repulsa with her scary voice since she is supposed to be a witch and Goldar having a very growling, bass voice. I know Finster sounds more prim and proper but he is on the bad guy’s side due to what he does and how he talks about the many monsters he creates for Rita. While the good guys, the sound strong, sometimes very positive and peppy but with their own personality on top of it like Kimberly in Mighty Morphen being that tough valley girl in how she speaks. Even Princess Shayla in Wild Force being the mentor figure that also sings and does help the rangers with her advice to them. So many aspects and attitudes that can be portrayed in someone’s
tone of voice.

The Music: I didn’t get to mention it in the original so I am bringing it here and that is the music. Each show has music for the bad guys and the good guys to show where we are in each episode. I will use Light Speed Rescue for example. When we see Diabolico and crew we hear the menacing music in the background as they speak, heck Vipra even had a bit of a rock sound while driving her car across Mariner Bay in one episode and the Rangers had to chase her to get to her. While the Ranger side had a very uplifting orchestra sound showing who they are even when they appear. Plus, you hear the instrumental version of the theme song when the transformed. When the Lost Galaxy Rangers even had their music when the crossover happened. In the end, the music tells you what side is which even how it changes between the two even in the fights.

The Grunts and Calls While Fighting: During each episode we tend to see the Rangers fight the foot soldiers or the henchman hand on hand before the monster grows. While hearing these grunts I can tell that the good guys are putting up a fight and even say some cheesy lines while doing it, it is a show for kids on our side of the planet after all. When they get hit, it’s easy to tell that the bad guys are making the fight even harder for our heroes. No matter what kind of fight it is hearing those grunts and cries can show what is going on.

The Morphing Phrases: Besides the fighting and hearing the voices, hearing the morphing phrases does give another idea who is also on the good side. Each season has their own morphing phrase to go with their suits and some of them are either lengthy or just easy to say but the same result is that they transform into their multi-colored suits. Well, the sixth ranger does have their own phrase to call out which makes them even more unique.

People Screaming: I know I should’ve mentioned this earlier but there are times where the citizens of the town getting attacked by the monster of the week. When hearing these screams it gives the signal that everyone is in trouble call in the good guys! Even when someone gets captured in a certain situation, like a volcano erupting in Mariner Bay where Dayna is in a bus with some people even a burglar, not kidding, and they get trapped. No matter what, each episode does show people being attacked and gives the idea that heroes will be coming to rescue.

The Monster of the Week Growing: Next is how the monsters always grow so that the Rangers would fight in their robots. When hearing this the voice on them does gets deeper and more growl sounding due to how huge they’ve gotten. Plus, when hearing their footsteps on the ground it does add more to the sound effects. Plus, the music is an added factor because of the idea they have changed in size.

The Zords: Next is the Zords! Every season has their own unique zord and sometimes they can be either animals, dinosaurs, even vehicles like in Turbo, Light Speed Rescue, and RPM. When that monster grows and our heroes call on their zords to come we tend to hear the music change to the instrumental version of the theme song, I think in some other seasons we do hear the lyrics as well or just a few mixed in. Still, knowing that these robots come and help save the day does give another telling.

The Weapons and Cycles: I decided to add these two together because they fit. Besides the zords and the suits, each team has their own weapon to go with what they change into. They tend to either have the same kind of weapon like the Rescue Blasters or their own weapons like in Mighty Morphen but no matter what each team had weapons to help take on a monster or one of the bad guys in that hand-on-hand combat. Not only that, in a lot of the seasons to add more speed they were handed motorcycles like Light Speed Rescue, Wild Force, and SPD for example to chase the villain in order to get to the scene on time and sometimes they do use these weapons in conjunction with their cycles or even with their zords as some sort of key. No matter what there is some sort of weapon that gets used or a motorcycle to give that extra speed.

Well, that’s it for this post. I am hoping it shows up this time. I am really sorry for Word Press doing what it did in not showing anything. I hope you guys enjoy this post and stay tuned for our coverage on Ranger Stop 6!

Beauty: CoverGirl Has Gone Cruelty Free!

Hello to all of my beautiful nerds and welcome back to this blog for a second time. I forgot to write something!

CoverGirl Is Now Cruelty Free, What about the Other Brands?

You read right! Huge cosmetics brand CoverGirl is now Cruelty Free and Leaping Bunny Certified! They have partnered with Coty in order to become Cruelty Free which for now on they will no longer test on animals and no longer using ingredients tested on animals and Coty is working on making their brands to be Cruelty Free by 2020! That makes a lot of people happy, even me since I am seeing that a good portion of my makeup is Cruelty Free and I did say a long time ago when I first touched this topic here that brands who aren’t on Leaping Bunny’s list should work to losing animal testing and guess what? CoverGirl is doing that just right! As you know animal testing doesn’t give accurate results when it comes to cosmetics, don’t worry I am not going to talk about animal brutality, I did see a documentary named Earthlings all thanks to someone who suggested it and won’t see it ever again. Anyways, like I said testing makeup on animals don’t give you the allergy nor skin irritation and other side effects that makeup can cause on human skin because you’re testing it on a different piece of skin that is not human. I did listen to a BBC podcast episode about how 3D printing is going to be used in order to help with testing cosmetics by printing out flesh samples which can be a really good alternative and not only that, California is starting to take a step in the right direction by getting rid of animal testing in their state and hoping to lead other states the same way but now back to CoverGirl!

What Should This Mean to Other Brands? Definitely taking the leap of course! Like I said above, animal testing with cosmetics is not a good way of testing to see if a lipstick is working right in plumping them and same with a certain ingredient if it’s safe to use. This should be a gateway for other brands to start thinking more especially with consumers nowadays. Like I said in my Pet Peeves Post when it came to beauty, we as consumers speak with our wallets and I’ve been noticing a change towards getting more Cruelty Free items. I admit it, I did say most of my stuff is that even though I do confess I still buy MAC and Maybelline but it doesn’t mean they can’t turn around either for one reason.

What is that reason you may ask? Well, a good portion of the market is in China! In order to have your makeup brand to sell in China it has to be tested on animals before it hits shelves due to safety reasons. This only includes the Republic of China not Hong Kong and also any airports in China as well. They also lifted testing any local products and now apparently, just reading an article on living kindly from this July, that China will start working on moving away from testing on animals with Leaping Bunny and the United Kingdom International Trade will be helping them on it. Yes, they are a huge market for a lot of brands and that is why they’re selling there and they do state in their policies that they will be helping the fight, for example the most recent one to go and sell was Nars. Famous for their Orgasm blush, still shaking my head at that, Nars started selling the beginning of this year and knew what they had to do but claimed they are doing it in order to help China fight to end the testing. Wouldn’t it be better to just not do it and sell in Hong Kong instead? That’s my question. At least now the Chinese Government is starting the fight but the question is will it show results? Who knows we will find out probably before 2025 which according to studies China and Japan are looking towards for better alternatives and more vegan products?

Which brings me back to what CoverGirl did, everyone is starting to say that brands should take notes and start doing what CoverGirl has done over time and finally kicking the testing out the door. I am glad they did work on it and it shows that starting now is not too late nor too hard. Yes the FDA says there is no laws on testing your products even finished products but there are the brands that keep their status to a “T.” And I did say before about consumers speaking with their wallets because if the brands notice that their fans are leaving their products on store shelves like Target, Sephora, Ulta, Walgreens, and even Walmart, then it kind of paints a big picture. Some brands that are indie and Cruelty Free are showing up more in stores like Colored Rain, MakeUp Geek, and even Colour Pop has bene showing up in Ulta and Sephora. Even Juvia’s Place and Beauty Bakerie is showing up in Ulta now. Heck, NYX Professional MakeUp has brick and mortar stores now, Orlando has two locations even as an example! If the consumers are starting to turn to them more then they have to start kicking out this testing and take CoverGirl as an inspiration for that.

What Will I do? Okay, I do admit I still have some animal tested brands which include Maybelline, Garnier, L’Oréal, MAC, and I did used to use Almay but their makeup has become a little pricey on my pocket for a while now, I am seeing that if these brands for example and many more that have been testing for many years can take a page out of CoverGirl’s book and ask them and Coty how to start? Where to start? How can we get onto Leaping Bunny? And so many other questions over a cup of coffee and a plate of scones. Heck, do the same thing in talking with Urban Decay, NYX Professional MakeUp, and some of the indie brands in how they keep it altogether when it comes to that status? The right conversation can lead to more conversation and be able to work with each other. This brings the dialogue and hopes for the future since I did say China is working on it and now the brands should still work on it and help more, who knows the future will be bright. Glad that CoverGirl has made those first steps and let’s see if Maybelline and other brands follow suit!

Well, that is it for this post! Yay for CoverGirl for leading the way and I am admitting I will be buying more stuff from them since I need another tube of Total Teaze mascara after all since that works on my lashes better! I understand it’s hard for me to leave some of these brands behind when a good portion of my makeup includes NYX and Wet N Wild after all, now hoping for the best for other brands even my fave hair care one, Garnier Fructis. Anyways, I hope this post will be my last one before Ranger Stop since I have bene on a roll with posting lately even in the Beauty Category. Except…it looks like I will have a beauty haul coming up, haven’t done those in a while! Stay tuned for that and any other posts to come from Ranger Stop 2018 by paying attention to our Twitter! Until next time! Stay beautiful while traveling the universe!

Technology: How to Make An Accessible Convention Schedule

Hello to all of my beautiful nerds traveling the vast universe! I am back with something completely different!

Creating a Simple and Accessible Convention Schedule!

As a blind person myself, it’s sometimes hard to read a convention guide with or without the accessible apps. Ever since last year, I have been creating my own Convention Schedules through using Google Sheets which makes it easier on myself, even if we have a press pass or not. I did have the Word Document version of the NFB Convention Schedule but wishing I had done that spreadsheet because it was a little tedious going through all the different pages in the entire guide. If I were to go to future NFB related events I will definitely do that. I bet you’re wondering, how am I able to get access to that document? Well, with the technology we have today there are different apps we can use in order to read documents and of course with how Apple has the Files app in order to access the Pages and Numbers apps to read things alongside Google having Drive and I did review the Polaris and how Drive can be used. So, here is how I make my Convention Schedule:

What You Need: Either a Tablet or a PC in order to access a spreadsheet program and either One Drive, Drop Box, Google Drive, and other File Sharing apps. If you have one, a Braille Device with Android Tech or you can just save it to a Thumb Drive.

1. Look at the convention schedule for the one you’re going to. Conventions tend to have a short list of events and then add onto it, which to keep the document ready in order to access again to add onto it.
2. Next, on whatever spreadsheet app or program, at the top of the columns, title them “Day,” “Panel Room,” “Time,” “Panel/Event Name” or what name you want it to be. You can also do a Notes column where you can write in what you want to have your friends do if they are on your press team or if you don’t have a press pass but want video for a YouTube Channel you like to put your convention videos on, you can also mention video or pictures. Also, if it’s a meet up, just mention that.
3. Next, this will get a little technical and that is merging cells to create blocks. This will help separate the days from each other, even the panel rooms where each event would be and their times. Such as this event will take place on Friday, in the same room as another but at a different time. So, in the Day Column from the day you type in do a Shift+Down Arrow and count each cell you may need to add the events, like if you want to go to four events end it at that by going home or heading back to your hotel room for the rest of the day which you would count three cells from Friday and it would select those blocks as you go. Next, there are times where certain apps give you the Alignment Box which gives you the options that gives options on how you want your text and cells be formatted. If you’re using Excel on a computer, you use the Applications Key and then up arrow to “Format Cells” and it will give you a box with tabs, which you can switch with either using Ctrl+Tab but now you can easily use Ctrl+Page Up or Down and just do that until you hear Alignment.
A. In order to get to the Merge Cells option in the Alignment area is by swiping on your device until you hear “Merge Cells” and sometimes depending on the device it will say, “Off” so double tap and it will turn on. Once you go back to the cells in your spreadsheet by either swiping or using a keyboard if you have one, it will say, “A2 to A4” Merged Cells!”
B. With Excel on a computer, once in the Alignment, you tab over to “Merge Cells” and hit the enter key on that option. And it will say the same message as if it was done on your tablet.
4. Once you have all of the events you want and added into the spreadsheet for the entire weekend, there are many things you can do with it:
A. For the Braille Device user, for the Polaris since I use that, best way of being able to view this document is by a PDF. First, go into Docs on your Polaris and go to the apps area and you can either access Docs or Drive and whatever account it’s saved under make sure you’re on that account. Next, either first letter navigate or tab, F3, to go to the spreadsheet it’s titled as and then use one of the scroll keys to go down and hear “More Options for this File.” Hit enter or Dot eight and then tab to where it says, “Send a Copy.” This will give you the option to save as a PDF, hit Enter once you tab over to it and tab over to the OK button and it will give you the options of apps to send to or save to and I choose Drive where once it’s entered on that, it will give you the OK button to send it over. Once that’s done. Go to Drive and it will give you all your documents you have saved through the different Google apps, find that file you saved as a PDF and once you tab to More Options, hit Enter again and then tab down to Download. And it will download to the Downloads folder in the File Manager. When you open that file from Downloads, all your information you have entered will be there. You can also save it as an Excel format, if you haven’t used Excel Viewer which I had to look up, there are commands to use in order to view your information. I find the PDF view easier since all my information is aligned.
B. For anyone who doesn’t have the Android specs, you can save the information to a thumb drive and save the file to your device by cutting or copying the file to your clipboard and paste it into your documents folder and open it from there to view it. If your device has the Excel Viewer like mine, I think the U2 had it f I remembered, you can find the navigation keys in the Help Menu.
C. If you have Numbers, even though it has changed with IOS 12, or have Sheets as well, you can use the Bluetooth capabilities with your Apple device in order to navigate a spreadsheet if it’s saved as one or copy down the schedule into the Pages app as an easier alternative to using a spreadsheet app. And of course with I Cloud on your device, you can save the many spreadsheets as different formats and send it to Drive if you prefer it that way and download it from Drive on your Polaris, you an also do it that way.
Well, that is it for this post. I know it was really technical in a way and tried to make it as simple as I could. The possibilities are endless when it comes to creating this schedule, whether it’s through using Excel on your computer and saving it to a thumb drive or just doing it through Google or Apple, you can create something that can help you get to your events during a big weekend. I will be using this idea with Ranger Stop this weekend and will give you an update in the Convention Spotlight in how it worked. I will take a look into what happened with Numbers and may make a post about that since I noticed some changes since IOS 12 has released. Stay tuned for that and anything else! Until then, stay beautiful while traveling the universe!

Beauty: Beauty Pet Peeves!

Hello to all of my beautiful nerds and welcome back from traveling the vast universe! Today, I’m doing a new post and it’s all thanks to Amy Loves Makeup on YouTube!

Makeup Pet Peeves!

Yes, we may have some as makeup lovers either on YouTube or here in the Blog Sphere. I do have a few myself because since the Beauty Community on YouTube has been kind of in two sections, the bigger people and the smaller people which is where we are in with my beauty stuff and our convention stuff, and well there are things that tick us off whether it’s the product or something as a big deal on its own. Let’s see what I have to say, but first!

Disclaimer: This post is based on thoughts and opinions of the writer of this blog. Please respect her thoughts and opinions of certain topics and not only that products that she loves and doesn’t love. Thank you!

Pet Peeve #1: Swatches Aren’t Everything! First pet peeve of mine is due to something and that is doing swatches on the arm with a finger or a brush. The thing is that lately Ms. Jacklyn Hill has been saying on social media that swatches don’t tell the whole opinion of the pallet due to the oils in our skin giving different appearances to an eye shadow or anything else that’s being swatched. This was posted after James Charles did a second swatch party type video of his Morphe pallet that is about to come out this month in time for the holidays since people thought he was faking them and he did quote what Jacklyn said. Yes, some of us are very oily and it can counteract with certain pigments but…BUT…the thing is that first swatch or few swatches of that shadow, that blush, even lipstick tells you how the product would perform patchy or not. A lot of companies are based on pigmentation and quality of that product and if something that doesn’t look right to someone who is looking at the swatch being done in a picture then it won’t be purchased. We are the consumers and we speak with our wallets as in our debit cards, credit cards, and cash. Even with Apple Pay and Google Pay we also speak! Not only that, I think it was Tati who mentioned years ago that a finger swatch and a brush swatch of a certain product is different from each other because yes some of us do like to put makeup on with our fingers and most of us prefer brushes, heck I am a brush person for my shadows due to sanitary reasons and ease of application, and the performance can be different like what happened to her with the shade Apartment in the Emily Edit Wants pallet where it came out patchy with her when she put it on with her finger. I did apply it with a brush with my pallet and it came out fine and built up to the pigmentation I wanted. Which brings me to my next peeve!
Pet Peeve #2: Pigmentation is Not Always There! Even though I can’t see whether there is pigment or not but I do trust reviews and swatches myself which does help me with purchasing of course but one thing to know is that there are times where pigmentation is not there, somewhat there, and “Holy crap! That’s pigmented!” The reason why pigmentation in a product is important when it comes to buying a certain product is that while swatching it should show up in order to see how well it will look on different skin tones and also the question is do we have to build it up to get it to where we want? One good example is the Emily Edit Wants pallet. Makeup Revolution is known for making eye shadows to be buildable like most other companies and I did remember how Emily did say these shadows are very buildable where you can have a light wash of color or just layer it on until you get to where you want it to be and a lot of people prefer their shadows or blushes or even highlights to be like that and having the right pigmentation to do that makes it more fun to blend into the skin. I know not everyone likes so light of a shadow that they have to pretty much blend and blend and blend until they’re not ready until midnight but pigmentation even in swatches is an important thing and sometimes it can be nerve racking when it’s not there or patchy.
Pet Peeve #3: How Companies Complain About Copying! I needed to put this on here because I did do a post and it’s still around. It feels like we’re seeing people still copying off of each other when it comes to creating makeup or a skin care product but it has been going on for many years and why are there complaints to this day? Not sure! I think people love to complain about it? Most recent offender was Jeffree Starr when people said his new Alien Pallet was a copy of Hot Topic’s Black Heart Beauty Galactic Pallet where there are twelve shades in the BHB pallet while Jeffree has eighteen shades, some of the colors are similar even with their names and so on. What really hits is the packaging! I did post on Dustin Daily’s video that this is still going on where drugstore brands are making their own version but they can’t copy all the way through as in all of the packaging and artwork and he did say it was a good observation because I pointed out how Kat Von D pretty much cussed out Makeup Revolution for copying…excuse me..”Copying” her Shade & Light pallet. Here is the thing, her artwork is unique to her since she does all the designs in a notebook and she is a tattoo artist after all and the only thing that would be hard for Makeup Revolution to do is copy her artwork so they probably did their own design for the pallet like they do with many of their other ones, like the Girls On Film Pallet when they first came to the United States. Latest is the creator of Fasally, sorry for the butchered name, who is known for the different essences even the Unicorn one and now many brands are doing essences themselves except the creator is complaining about how the Coke bottle inspired design is being copied by many brands. This is not new actually, I bet a lot of brands do similar packaging to other brands I mean even the Wet N Wild lip glosses kind of reminded me of the packaging of the L’Oréal Infolluble Lip Glosses from years ago. Seriously, stop complaining about the copying, it’s still going to happen and like I said above, we as consumers will judge with our wallets as in if we can afford the dupe then we buy the dupe or save up for the luxury version.
Pet Peeve #4: When Liquid Lipsticks Bleed Especially On Me With Colour Pop! This is one pet peeve I have faced especially with Colour Pop and that is the whole liquid lipsticks bleeding thing. I love Colour Pop especially their highlights and eye shadows but their liquid lipsticks they bleed like crazy on me even when I try using a lip primer. I remembered getting the Hello Kitty one in Ribbon a while back and that made me look like what if I was Harley Quin from Suicide Squad. I had to toss it and even though I love liquid lipsticks but why does Colour Pop ends up bleeding on me? The only one from Wet N Wild that bleeds is Goth Topic and I think I used it on top of a lip primer and it stayed put very well. I think the reason is that Color Pop just makes it way to liquid-like and it doesn’t want to stay, this is why I am just buying the other lip products I do like by them like the Lux Lipsticks and the Lip Glosses and also Lippie Sticks.
Pet Peeve #5: Saying One Brush Brand Is Better Than The Other, As In Better Than Sliced Bread! What I mean by this, going back to Jacklyn Hill right now, she kept on saying Morphe brushes are better than a lot of brands and it was overhyped for a while. I found it interesting since I saw here for the Tea and Tea Spill do a bit of a documentary thing and it shown her saying the same thing when it came to MAC and Sigma. I haven’t tried brushes from either brands but have from Morphe and they are just meh! Here is the thing in my own opinion when it comes to brushes and that not all brands are created equal. I have tons of brushes myself I have bought from Amazon, even from Ipsy through their deals page, and even from Real Techniques, Wet N Wild, and even got some from Ulta in those little makeup bag sets they used to give out and the brushes I have used from them are very good. I may try Sigma or/and MAC in the future when I do save up enough to get a brush or two or a set but in my opinion can’t knock brushes from other brands and say that one is the end all and be all. One good example, everyone said Artiste the best oval brushes except they cost $400 for a set. Yeah! Not kidding! I have tried Ulta’s oval brushes last year and they were $20.00 for a set and they perform very well, even though the style of the brush is not my favorite but it was good to try. I sometimes use the foundation brush for blush a lot. Anyways, you can find pretty good brushes for pretty good prices if you look around or get a holiday set for a good price even. I just got the Wet N Wild Holiday Set for half off on Sunday. If you want to try Morphe’s brushes for yourself, I’m not telling you to spend your money just try one or two brushes or even a set to get a picture of what they sell because worth the hype is not always worth it. You are the judge and it is your wallet.

I think that’s where I am going to end it! I know I will probably have more but I think that’s a good start. If you like this, just sound off in the comments!

What is next? Well, Ranger Stop coverage of course! Stay tuned and follow us on Twitter!

Technology: Review on the Braille Sense Polaris by H. I. M. S. International

Hello to all of my beautiful nerds and welcome back from traveling the vast universe! It’s time for a technology review!

Braille Sense Polaris by H. I. M. S. International!

Disclaimer: This review is based on observations and experience of the lead writer of this blog. Please respect her thoughts and opinions!

It’s a long time coming but finally get to review this device and that’s the Braille Sense Polaris. As you know, I have been using Braille tech for a long time and this is the latest note taker that has been released a year ago.

Built with Android tech, the Braille Sense Polaris not only acts like a Braille note taker but also acts like an Android tablet using apps that can be downloaded from the Google Play Store and use a touch bar under the the routing buttons right above the Braille display. There are many functions it can do such as reading books, using the Word Processor to take notes and even read Excel Spreadsheets, on top of that also has a built in camera to use many apps that rely on it.

My thoughts on this device has a lot of pros but does have its cons with it too, let’s see what I think!

Thoughts: I have had much experience with the H. I. M. S. International Braille Sense line with starting with the Braille Sense plus QWERTY model which is basically what if you took a keyboard from a computer and attached to a Braille display and took notes that way. Reason why I went with this one is because being in college you have to pay attention to the lectures and and figuring out the contractions while the professor speaks then you will miss something important and having this one did help me out, even though I am a fast typist and there were times when it couldn’t keep up. Plus, it did help with reading some books that were hard to read for class assignments. This did go on with using during my earlier press jobs at MetroCon 2013 and 2014, Omni Expo 2014, and of course MythiCon 2014 until one of my keys ended up breaking off and that got me to the U2, which introduced me to the Perkins Brailler keyboard. I thought it would be simple but it wasn’t because unlike the QWERTY counterpart you have chords to use which is a Braille character with the spacebar combined. I did have to remember a lot of them as time went on but got a hang of it until the battery decided to give me issues and knew I had to step up and that’s where the Polaris came in.

There is another device I was introduced to and knew about and that was the Braille Note Touch which what if you took an Android tablet and placed a Perkins keyboard on top and you can also use the touch screen to Braille with it as well. You can even use Bluetooth devices with it too but one thing I didn’t like about it was that it was heavy. You not only have the tablet portion but you also have the keyboard on top to add to the weight which as you know I do press at conventions and having something lightweight helps so that is why the Polaris was better for me. As in, going from panel to panel, being able to access it easily to interview people and so on made me choose this device more. Plus, I am more familiar with the Braille Sense line than the Braille Note line which makes it even easier for me to use the Polaris more.

What Do I Like the Most: What I like the most about the Polaris is that it added more features to it since we are not only playing with a single product but with a second platform at added to it which is Android and it gave Braille a better advantage since nowadays people are using Android and Apple devices for their daily tasks. Besides note taking, I do love using my Polaris to pair with my phone in order to navigate through Facebook, Instagram, and even sometimes email with it since dictation likes to be tricky even in text messages but of course I have been using it with the video function on my phone because well if you have seen my earlier beauty videos, Siri talked a lot in them. Imagine with all the comments I got, I did get some tips from someone from a tech company who did demonstrate the two devices for me. It did help and using the Polaris with the phone while recording does tell me the video is still recording without having to get up and go to the camera to see if it is still recording. Nice little feature.

Another thing I did like is how the Help Topics were expanded because you have so many new features to use within the Polaris itself and remembering everything can be a hassle so having different Help Topics to go back on does help out, heck even there was a section for me to look at on the Touch Bar itself since I didn’t get much information about that which I will talk about that later and will talk about the Touch Bar now!

The newest feature that was added was the Touch Bar which is a strip placed in between the routing buttons and the Braille Display itself. You can turn on the Touch Bar by using the Global Settings Options and use this feature as if you’re navigating a tablet screen. As in, you can swipe with your fingers across this strip to go between the programs, double tap to go into apps, and so on. It’s a fun little feature and yes if you have long nails it can be tricky so I would say clip your nails back if you can.

Another feature is of course being able to download apps from the Google Play Store and being able to use them in this environment. Great thing about this feature besides downloading is that if you have an Android phone or tablet yourself you can download the apps you had on those devices and place them onto the Polaris itself which is great because you can use Google Docs and Sheets between the two and able to save and open these kinds of documents between the Braille Sense side and the Android side. Not only that, other apps can be downloaded too if you haven’t used them on other Android devices such as a printing app. My mom has a wireless printer and during the summer I didn’t have any ink in my printer so I decided to try out her printer with my Polaris and downloaded the printing apps I needed and it worked out beautifully! And remembered when I mentioned the camera? There are apps you can use with this feature and one app I did test out while using it is of course Be My Eyes! While I was at the NFB Convention this summer, I did ask if it could work on a Braille device with a camera and they weren’t sure about it and afterwards I put it to the test and downloaded it to my Polaris. It did work! Even though you can’t see the object through the camera but it does act like a video camera for the volunteer? I also heard that KNFB Reader can also be used this way so I am waiting for my chance to download it during a sale, if I can, to see how well it works out for me. I would love to read my documents during work with this app and it is a dream of mine to be able to have it.

Cons: Besides the Pros, there are cons to this device. First is and hearing it was fixed with the last update and that is how in Word Processor where writing gets jumbled. As in if I was writing something, it gets moved automatically like if you were using a laptop, trust me I didn’t like that due to the Mouse Track Pad. I wasn’t the only one who experienced this either since other people at the NFB Convention also went through what I went through. Now I have to see about it being fixed during Ranger Stop when I take notes.

Another con is using Google Docs and Google Sheets, I am not sure if this is the same issue with Slides but I have noticed while trying to type in Docs I sometimes get taken out of the document area and it’s hard to get back in. Now, I am not sure if it will work better since I have been trying the Touch Bar and if it would still have me in writing a document but this annoyed me while trying to write my latest fan fiction and had to restart the chapters over and over. I will see how it goes with using the Touch Bar feature and get back to you on that. And with Sheets it feels like when you add columns it’s hard to go back to previous columns since it can only fit a few on this kind of display. I did mention Touch Bar and I will see how that goes and may write a post about my experiences with the Touch Bar since apparently I am the only one so far trying it out. Anyways, I do like how I can just construct the spreadsheets on this device but trying to navigate the columns and rows not so much, wishing they can expand on this which I will mention in the Improvements area.

And finally, not all of the apps are optimized for this kind of environment. What do I mean by this? Well, while downloading some of the apps through Play Store, I did notice there was a message mentioning that this app is not optimized to the Polaris itself as in its optimized for tablets and phones only. I understand you’re using a Braille device but being able to have the Android system built in to add more functionality to the device itself the app should be able to operate normally and optimized to be used in this environment. Not sure how well the apps are able to work on the Braille Note Touch, I have a feeling since that that has a screen it is optimized better in their environment. Not only that, some apps can’t be used on this type of device which includes Kindle which makes me sad, I did suggest that they should add Kindle in order to have more reading options.

How Can This Product Can Be Improved? There are many ways such as making the apps be optimized to fit this device more since it is a new tech being used and of course it is new to this market. I would have to say the most would being able to use the G-Suite Programs without any issues as in being able to type in Docs without being kicked out of the document area. If we’re using Google Suite programs we should be able to use them to their fullest potential especially in the classroom. Yes, we can copy and paste what we wrote in Word Processor but being able to just type it right there it would be easier than just going from one area to the next. Goes the same with Sheets too, having that ability to just create spreadsheets and going back and forth between columns if they get added can be a better extension of using a Braille device with Google.

Another improvement is that that there are recordings of videos about how to use the Polaris and not only that recordings done with the audio recorder on the Polaris too. Sorry to say H. I. M. S., with my super bat hearing I can’t hear it! As in, the audio is so low it is hard for me to hear even raising the device volume to its fullest. It goes the same way when you watch the videos on YouTube on a PC and probably goes the same way on other devices that use YouTube. Hello, a microphone can help out and don’t just use the audio recorder on these devices, no offense I have used it before and it doesn’t record anything loud enough unless you put it closer. Best to just use a microphone and probably talk a bit louder if there is no mike. I even talk loud in all of my videos in a loud room, why not do the same?

Another thing is talk about the Touch Bar more. What I mean is that yes it can be a tricky thing to do and use which I admit I always find myself in the Global Settings if I’m not careful enough but being able to talk about this feature and train people on it, even doing it as an instructional video, can give more functionality to this device. This takes me back to the G-Suite thing, if you guys built it into a device then why not show how to use it? I did say I was able to find out how to use it on my own and as a new A. T. Instructor knowing about this feature does help. Plus, it is a neat feature to use after my small experience with it and its fun to play around with and being able to train someone after learning it first can help give new customers to the company and also show what else the device does besides using the Braille keys. It’s like using the Terminal Mode with the phone, I sometimes need to swipe in order to get around on my IPhone while navigating on my Polaris and cool thing is with the Touch Bar you can swipe to those apps too. So, talking about this feature more can expand what the capabilities are. If Human Ware has the touch options on their devices so does this one and as said before should be talked about more.

And one more thing, knowing with updating the Firm Ware on this device, there should be flash messages saying, “Hey! New Update!” Instead of just guessing. For instance, there was a new update and it was supposed to be released at the end of August but didn’t show up until mid-October. I did check the Update Firm Ware to see if there was one and having a message saying it can help because there are Notifications on this thing like a regular Android Tablet Apple Devices why not do notifications based on that since a lot of these note takers do use Wi-Fi.

Rating: 4 Star Paw Prints Out of 5! Not all devices are perfect and this one is one of them. I know I had some cons and some improvements that should be made. I wills see how the Touch Bar interacts with the Google Suite Apps because I feel like they would benefit more with it than just the keyboard use. Not only that I am hoping Kindle can be used on this thing since I have a ton of books needing to be read and if I’m at a convention and having a break and want a good book to read then that is what I can fall upon besides using the DAISY Player and Bard Mobile. In the end, H. I. M. S. has done a pretty good job but does need to make improvements along the way and hoping they keep making devices like these due to how much tech has been growing and it was a great step up for them due to how much Apple and Android has been big parts in the mobile devices market. Plus, good thing is this can help with getting into Android a little since not everyone uses this type of tech platform and I did say in the Life After Sight Loss live stream recently that you can see what’s best for you by being able to test both platforms and good thing with this kind of device you can use the Bluetooth settings with Apple devices so they can go hand in hand with each other. I think I did make a good choice with this device since I am familiar with the products and now Accessibility and Braille is starting to get more into the high tech field by catching up with Android so it’s living strong. I bet you’re wondering, would I have gone with the Braille Note Touch instead? Even though the features were nice on that thing, if it was lighter than I would but as someone who goes convention to convention, I’d rather go for a lightweight device and not slow myself down. If I were to save up for the Touch itself then I would probably consider it to see how it works and expand my tech knowledge more. Who knows what will happen but I am going to stick with the Polaris and see how much it will improve over time.

That is it for this review! I am glad that I was able to talk about this device since so many people have seen me use it before and always ask me questions. Ranger Stop will be its first convention that I will be using my Polaris at and will be having some fun with it. Let’s see how it goes!
