Subscription Satelite: Allure Beauty Box June 2022

2 Hello to all of you beautiful nerds and their dads and welcome back from traveling the vast nerd universe! I am back with the next subscription!

Allure Beauty Box June 2022

It’s time for the Allure Beauty Box and I do have to say that this made up for the disappointment from Glossy Box because the products are amazing this month. This box is curated by the Allure Editors with products they have loved throughout the months and placed them in the box with full and deluxe sizes for $23. Since I announced the slight price rise with Ipsy last post, I have not seen anything about Allure doing the same thing since they are a well-known magazine but they have been an online publication for a while since I do get articles sent to my inbox everyday. Hoping they keep it at this price every month since the value is pretty nice. Let’s see what they shipped to me!

  • Ciata London Everyday Vacay Pallet
  • CosRX Full Fit Light Ampule
  • Floss Beauty Lip Advocate Lip Tint
  • La Roche Posay Lipikar Balm Plus Intense Body Cream
  • Sephora Smooth + Blur Primer
  • Simbiosis Hyaluronic Acid + Shea Butter Ultra Rich Night Treatment

I know I didn’t include links but figured this would be easier to do since anyone can do a search for these items except for the Everyday Vacay Pallet, which I could only find a review of and can be found on Mercari and EBay. Not sure if this item is discontinued since Ciata didn’t have it on their site under Everyday Vacay. Did Allure have this in their offices for a year or so? Usually brands won’t keep products for a while after the collection is done. Now, I’m not saying Allure had expired products, I am just wondering if this was something in their vault or was given by Ciata a year back or just recently for the box if they had new packaging? I am just wondering why this is not linked anywhere on the net when it’s not on the official website and how did it get into Allure’s hands? I know BoxyCharm went through a scandal with some products being expired a while back especially with the Boxy Pop Up where I just watched someone’s video about a rose oil that’s expired. I am not sure as of now but will have to see how this product goes since I do like what I’ve tried from Ciata all thanks to these subscriptions. This box also gave me my first La Roche Posay product for me to try. I have seen their sunscreen being advertised but it’s way out of my budget when it comes to skin care. The highest I would spend on skin care would be in the $20 range and if it’s something like Sunday Riley or La Rosch then I just use it and find a dupe for it that would work as well, like this repair cream I got from them. I know it will be expensive on Ulta and glad to get a sample size since having samples is the best. I bet you guys may tell me that I should spend the most on skin care, not exactly. I do get Murad but only on sale especially during 21 Days of Beauty but a $12 moisturizer from the drugstore would probably do the same as $100 moisturizer, I am just saying. I will use this of course. I also did receive another Floss item which is a lip tint. I burned my lips and let them heal before I use anything besides lip balm, a Vaseline lip therapy, and burn ointment. Long story short, I just did a taste test with curry when it happened. It was straight out of my slow cooker if anyone is wondering. I put the Apule in my bathroom and started using it since this is my first Ampule I’ve ever had and so far it has not broken me out since I used it last night and this morning. I will have to see how this goes since CosRX is a good brand and heard of them through James Welsh, also I think I got some items from when I was with No Make No Life a year ago. The Sephora primer is something that was a bit of a surprise since I am more of an Ulta shopper and fan of their own brand, it’s good to try another store’s brand to see how they go. I will put this in my everyday makeup Caboodle. All I have to say this was a good box, but a little suspicious of the Ciata shadow pallet.

That completes this box! It did help with the disappointment I had towards Glossy Box since I did have that blush break on me and glad I went on Pixie’s website to pick up another one. I will definitely start using the lip tint once my lips heal from the burn. I am still using the Ampule from CosRX which so far has been good. I can’t wait to see what the editors picked for next month with Fourth of July looks about to happen. I am waiting for another Color Club order since I did pick up their Fourth themed polish and needed a white polish to match. Next will be my Ipsy bag and also have another post in line! Stay tuned!

Subscription Satelite: Glam Bag Plus June 2022

Hello to all of you beautiful nerds and welcome back from traveling the vast nerd universe! Time for another subscription!

Glam Bag Plus June 2022

I know I usually put the Glam Bags together but I think doing them separate would be fair. So, my Glam Bag Plus did get to me in one piece since nothing broke on the truck. That is a good thing and I have to announce something. Due to inflation, Ipsy is raising their shipping to meet the inflation situation by 1.50. So, we will be paying more starting next month, even Glam Bag X will also be affected by being $58 starting August. I did say I will give that one more chance unless they screw up but after realizing what had happened in Glossy, I will just buy the items they screwed up on if they don’t send the replacement. I haven’t bought the Nudestix blush due to getting some other makeup items but may do it next month or wait for my birthday coupon for Ulta.Let’s see what I got this month!

This was a better bag this time since I did get two skin care items. I got another serum but from this bag and I never heard of Dr. Zenobia before but glad to get a serum that has one of the ingredients I tend to enjoy and that is Hyaluronic Acid. I think of using this next since I don’t know if I can find my other Good Molecules one since I moved recently and the bottle is just there. I’m also happy that I received another Dr. Brandt items which I’ve enjoyed from them so far. I am still currently using one moisturizer that I just opened in my collection of moisturizers. I did use up my Expholikate moisturizer due to being so dry from my stomach bug. I did have a hard time finding a link for the Laura Gellar Illuminator Duo which I am happy to use since I have gotten into this brand through Ipsy and also BoxyCharm. I will definitely use this and combine the two to give off a nice glow on whatever blush I wear that day. I’m also happy to choose the Girlactick Shadow Stick since I have enjoyed shadow sticks so far and they are so easy to use when I want a quick look and I wished Ipsy did link them for Shop Brand, which I was glad to find their website and they do have other colors which I may explore. What is interesting is that this stick is more water based which will be interesting to see how well it stays on top of primer. And finally, a nail polish duo but from Mischo Beauty. I think I got a nail polish set from this brand or maybe another one since I do love nail polishes and what caught my interest was the teal, even though the website says it is a dusty blue, which still is interesting since I do love blue polish. I put on a blue black polish from Essie that I recently purchased on Nail Polish Day. I will definitely check more nail polishes out by Mischo since they are a little bit pricier than Color Club but will have to see how well their polishes feel before buying of course!

That completes this post, I’m happy for this month’s bag because I feel that the choices had more variety this time around since I did post asking about that and I feel that they listened. I can’t wait to see what July has in store since we do have the Fourth coming up and usually having something Star Spangled does make me happy since I do love stars! I did buy two of the star themed polishes from Color Club. Stay tuned for my Allure Beauty Box!

Subscription Satelite: Glossy Box June 2022

Hello to all of you beautiful nerds and welcome back from traveling the vast nerd universe! Sorry for not being around, it has been a bit chaotic over here in the Nerd Universe. Let’s see, I caught Rj’s stomach bug which he caught while being at work and we both had to go to the E. R. to get fluids because this one was a doozy on us. As in, we couldn’t keep anything down, especially when I had some pain added which happened to be a UTI. I got mine around the first few days of my summer semester of school on top of it and had to get my first week of assignments in and glad I did, week two of school met our move to a new apartment. Tobi moved in with us and we upgraded in our complex and did get to turn in stuff and now back at work to make money again. Hooray! It is back to normal and I hope I never get another stomach bug. It shows that with Covid that new things can come up that are pretty bad, I am looking at Monkey Pox which sounded new but weird. Anyways, tangent’s aside, I have the first subscription for June!

Glossy Box June 2022

So, Glossy Box arrived and I had to get it from my old mailbox because they told me I had to change my address before the 20th of the month and I did not see that anywhere. At least with Ipsy it’s before the first of the next month, but Glossy can you post that on your change of address form? Anyways, this box is $21 a month and contains full-size and some deluxe size items and can range from five to six and can also range from drugstore to luxury and even some indie brands I never heard of, let’s see what I got!

So, this month there are four products! I think this is a better box because last month was kind of underwhelming, especially having a scrubbing item that was really rough on my skin. I did toss it out because my skin hated it. The only thing that was disappointing was my blush from Pixie shattering. WHen it came it was completely broken! I thought it was from Mica beauty but it was not, whoops, but it was Pixie and I was sad. I hope they send me a replacement, if not, I may have to purchase one from Pixie since I love what i’ve tried from them. I am wanting to know, who’s bright idea was to place this item on the top? This should have been at the bottom with a better cushion because delivery is not too kind, especially by UPS. I did start using the body cream though because my skin has been super dry and left a lotion back at the old place. I do find the Christof Robin item interesting this time which claims to be a shampoo replacement. I’m not going to totally replace my shampoo since I did switch to a Carotene shampoo since I am trying to grow my hair back out and glad it is now even due to a hair cut. And I’m glad to get a new face cream to use at night since my skin did have a major dry patch after the stomach bug and it looked like a desert patch. I know, stomach bugs can dehydrate and my skin is now back to normal. I am still going to keep it hydrated as usual due how dry my skin does guests year round. I will see how everything goes and hope for an update on the blush because that was a sad moment I never thought I would go through.

That is it for this box, I know it was short but glad I got this box and glad to be back on here. I hope to get back to the normal rotation since my Glam Bag Plus is supposed to be here soon if the post does nI also get a kabuki brush with this item when I got it from the website, so if yours came broken then buy it since you can get a better value with the brush and learning from what had happened with GBX last month, if anything came broken or if they ran out, I will just buy the item instead of facing what happened last month since who knows if Glossy Box got enough inventory and with things happening with inflation and supply not being up, I doubt they would have enough. Also, I did get an email from Ipsy which I will explain in the next subscription which is Glam Bag Plus!ot get things mixed up with our mail! Grrr! Until next time!

Update: Sorry for the wait, I ran out of time all week due to busy schedule! I decided to buy the Pixie Blush Duo from Pixie’s website this morning, which is Saturday! I decided to do this because Glssy Box wanted pics and I was way too busy t do anything about it and figured that it was not that bad of a price so why not? I wanted to buy anything Pixie for years and finally got that chance since I am working.

Subscription Satelite: My Feelings About Ipsy

Hello to all of you beautiful nerds and welcome back from traveling the vast nerd universe! Sorry for not posting as of late. I’ve been busy with not only work but finished my first semester at George Mason and about to go into the summer semester. As you can tell, I did pass the first semester and will make sure I get to move on. Also, I ‘ve been packing for a move. I know, we moved back in 2020 to a new part of town and will be staying in our complex except this time Tobi will be moving in with us. He was going through a bad situation and we’re helping him get out of that. I don’t want to go into too much but if you have read stuff on Reddit about Slumlords, that’s all I can say. So, I do have a different post today so I will be talking about something that is making me on the fence.

On the Fence About Ipsy

So, this month I ran into something and now feel on the fence but must do my Disclaimer first!

Disclaimer

This post is based on thoughts and experiences by the writer of this blog, please respect her thoughts and her experiences, you’ve been warned.

Well, I’ve been back with Ipsy since 2018 because when I was subscribed before then, I had to have my dad pay for it and he had to get me to leave the subscription. I got back into it but this time with my own funds since I did get my own money into my own account that year and I was about to be hired here on the coast as well which I was glad to stay in. As time continued, Glam Bag Plus showed up and I joined that and enjoyed it. I didn’t join Lux after seeing someone’s experience not being so great with that tier. As time went on, they added the choose one item idea and one month during the summer I was not expecting this to happen. One month, I got to choose my item and chose a pretty nice product and the rest were also pretty amazing but when the box arrived it contained items that were the wrong items. They were not the ones that appeared on my profile page for GB Plus and I had to contact them about it and they apologized and sent me a new box with the right items. I don’t know what had happened but somehow someone didn’t read my items right and decided to send me someone else’s products or didn’t pay attention and packed the wrong ones, but that is not normal when I’m with Ipsy and this was the first mistake I’ve seen and took it pretty well. Unfortunately, this next instance not so much. At the end of last year, they decided to end GB Lux and added GB X and I liked it because you get items that someone famous in the beauty or beauty lover out there and you get to pick the other items while the person chooses based on your profile that they have enjoyed over time. I have enjoyed what I got every four months until now.

This month’s bag was with Madelaine Petch who was on Riverdale. I did like the items, even some of the ones I chose and one of them happened to be the Nudestix Nudies Bloom stick in Sweet Cheeks which is a blush stick. I heard good things about this brand and never got to try over time since I was not working and when I got a chance with 21 Days of Beauty I was not interested. When I saw this, I wanted to try it due to loving blushes and got into blush sticks more due to Trestique and Milani. When the bag arrived, I didn’t get it, I got a perfume instead that was in the same group. I was disappointed after getting this and tried contacting Ipsy and they sent the replacement which was not the item, they sent me a Keys Cheek Tint which was one of my other items in my bag this month and clearly upset. I sent them an email after not getting a response on Messenger and they explained that when sending the replacement they ran out of this item and sent me another Keys Cheek Tint instead since they didn’t realize they ran out of the Nudestix Nudies Bloom but they did give me a small refund and points to redeem except I feel like I am on the fence about them.

How Do I Feel?

Disappointed in them, mad, upset, wishing they would have told me the truth instead of sending something in its place. I felt that as a customer that I was not looked at as one due to how much it took for them to respond back. When I had that issue with GB Plus they got back to me right away when I explained what had happened, what items were sent instead, and they gave me a new box right away. Nowadays, since they are with BoxyCharm, I kind of feel like they are going down the same route as them. As in, not taking the time to respond in the time they usually had, as in an hour or two or even six within the same day. Not only that, they should have been honest in running out of the product, also wishing they had more than one shade if they could get it from the brand, which sometimes they get two shades of the item or three if lucky. I wouldn’t mind getting a different shade, except they only had one. I did like the perfume though and glad to have another for my collection except I am feeling a bit on the fence about Ipsy.

What Will I Do?

After this, I was thinking Ipsy was not known for sending wrong products like they had when I first joined. They were always on top, they always had really great items. I have noticed that for months they had the Roller Lash Mascara sample for Glam Bag as a choice for months and I had to avoid it. I am not a big fan of this mascara because it reminds me of the one from Rimmel I prefer more except stores don’t have it like they used to. THey were not known for repeats, which is odd. I guess they had extras? Maybe? But glad I didn’t get it again or choose it since I go for other items. I even chose sunscreen this month since we are about to hit summer. Anyways, not sure what is going on on their side but this never happened and this was the second time for the bags themselves but I did remember when I was missing something in one of my Refreshments when I was with that part of Ipsy. I am usually excited about the items but now knowing that this took place, not sure how I feel. It’s supposed to be Christmas and this feels like getting a boring gift. I am not sure if I want to just cancel GBX or do the entirety and find another box to go with Glossy and Allure since those boxes seem to have items they don’t repeat most of the time. Not sure, I will give it a few more months and think about it. The next GBX is in August and give that a chance, if they screw up with it again then I will cancel that tier entirely. I’m paying a lot and should not be screwed around with and with products like this. They should give what the customer picks and have extras if something does go wrong or have another shade and ask the customer if they want the other shade they have in their inventory. That’s my two cents on that.

That is it for this post. I will be busy for the next few weeks guys, so I won’t have time to post and I hope the internet won’t be screwed around like the last time we moved. I will update Twitter as time goes on so stay tuned!

Subscription Satelite: Allure Beauty Box April 2022

Hello to all of you beautiful nerds and welcome back from traveling the vast nerd universe. I am back with the last subscription box for April!

Allure Beauty Box April 2022

My Allure box was the last box to arrive and it is a good start to the summer months since one item is perfect for the start. I wished I got the nail item but I realized I was not a nail strips fan, but anyways, this box is $23 a month and you get items based on Editors picks from Allure Magazine. Let’s see what I got this month since there were variations!

So, these were the items that there were in my Allure box. I was hoping to get the Scratch Nail Wraps, however I realized I was not a big fan of nail strips, I even remembered having the KISS type dye ones years ago except they came off too easily. I never got the strips again so I went with a press on nails years later. I did start using the essence though from Neogen and it doesn’t feel too bad on the skin. I am glad that it’s a deluxe size since it’s better to try something new in this size. I’m glad to get facial oil just in time since I would run out of the rose hemp oil I have been using from Good Molecules as of late. I am most excited about the sunscreen though since I am using the Sunday Riley sunscreen from last year’s boxes and I was meaning to get another sunscreen, which I am glad to get this in the box in time for summer around here. I know we have to wear it as the last step of our skin care and here in Florida it’s proof of that. I can’t wait to use this though. I’m also excited about the air sponges I received since I do enjoy using makeup sponges for my foundation. These are pretty small in the container but do expand when wet and have to be air dried afterwards. I will use these with my beloved Wet N Wild and Urban Decay! I am not too sure about the peel gel since when I think of peels I think of spreading the mask all over and have to peel it off once dry. THis one, apparently, can be washed off actually so it’s just a scrub? I guess I have to give it a chance, if I get any weird reaction then toss!

This month’s box was pretty good. I am glad they are doing variations since for a long while they give everyone the same box and that can get a bit boring and noticing the variety of products that can show up make this box better. I can’t wait what May will bring since here in Florida summer comes early. Trust me, during MegaCon 2017, I felt the heat while waiting for my dad and was glad I wore lighter clothing, especially my Link cosplay since I wore shorts with that costume. Anyways, that completes this month’s boxes! What’s next? Not sure because the next few weeks are going to be final projects for me at school before the next semester and well, RJ and I are moving to another apartment in the complex, more on that when June hits. So, see you all next month!

Subscription Satelite: Ipsy April 2022

Hello to all of you beautiful nerds and welcome back from traveling the vast nerd universe! I am back with another makeup subscription!

Ipsy April 2022

It’s time for Ipsy for this month with both the Blam Bag and GB Plus. These two of the Glam Bags you can have with your subscription. The regular Glam Bag is $13 every month with deluxe to full size items with a makeup bag while the GB Plus is $28 each month with a drawstring bag containing more full-size items and you get to choose three out of the five items. Let’s see what I got in each bag shall we?

Glam Bag

I have to say that this month’s bag has another mix of makeup and skin care, even one hair care item. When I found out I was getting the Marc Anthony Leave-In Conditioner, I was excited since it was a brand I loved for so long and has given my hair some life ever since trying them out through Ipsy. WHen I got my Glam Bag in the mail, I put this item with the rest of my hair products because it has been a staple in my daily hair routine. It gives my shorter curls some life! I will definitely get a full-size product of this since I have enjoyed it! WHat I found weird is with the Symbiosis primer, it gave me a different name on the tube and the website, which you will see in the link. Even though it says Perfecting here but it says something different on their website. Not sure if it was due to Ipsy not wanting to put the actual name for the product, that seems a little weird to me when they always put the full name every month. I am looking forward to using it since it is a good size product. The item I picked was the V Cosmetics Blush since I saw this and saw it was rose gold, it got my click when the choice came up. I felt that some of the products in the selection were okay until this blush appeared. I do love blush and this was different. It’s a triple milled, shimmery pink blush that is soft on the skin. I can’t wait to use this and see how it goes!

Update! I finished the Glow Recipe Watermelon Drops and with such a small sample, it did moisturize my face and didn’t have any weird effects like the avocado sleep mask I got from BoxyCharm a few years ago, but it was pretty good@! Wishing it was a full-size or a bigger sample size for easier distribution.

Glam Bag Plus

I don’t know why but the second and third groups for choice on GB Plus were boring again. Group 1 was the exciting one and hard for me to choose since it not only had the Ciate London bronzer but also had a nail polish duo, you all know how I love polish and keeping my nails pretty while typing, and some cream shadow from Girlactic. Why don’t they put those two products in  the other two groups since those were underwhelming and I wanted them as well. I did comment over at Ipsy about it and hoped it gets changed for June since next month is GBX. I did have a hard time with February’s GBX because the final group had some good items but the sunglasses called to me more.Anyways, I found the Dragon’s Blood Eye Gel most interesting in group 3 despite having other eye creams, it has an interesting name except has more of the skin loving ingredients such as Hyaluronic Acid, Rose Water and other ingredients to help moisturize the eye area. I will definitely be using this once I’m done with few of the other eye creams. The Ciate bronzer caught my eye since I haven’t tried a browser from Ciate yet and thought it would be a new addition even though I use bronzers on certain occasions when I feel like contouring my outer cheeks. I will also use the brush set since this would be great for the Urban Decay Moisturizer Foundation I picked up during 21 Days of Beauty this time around. I will have to see these go.

That completes these Glam Bags. I think Glam Bag beat out GB Plus again due to how useful the products I got were. I will still use my items in GB Plus since I never heard of SandBar before and glad to have a blush pallet this time. I did go into Jen Luv’s chat this week about Cos Box going out of business and how subscriptions are great but some people cancel due to how much product. I think, this is how I feel, subscriptions give you the items so you can take months to use over time instead of that particular month. It took an entire eight months before I started using my Sunday Riley sunscreen I got in my Allure Beauty Box last year due to using the Coppertone one I took with me to Atlanta. I will be talking about Allure next so stay tuned!

The Tech Quadrant: Braille Sense 6 vs. Braille Note Touch Plus: WHich Notetaker is the Better One?

Hello to all of you beautiful nerds and welcome back from traveling the vast nerd universe! It’s time for a device battle!

Braille Sense 6 vs. the Braille Note Touch Plus: Which is the Better Notetaker?

So, it’s time to put the Braille Sense 6 and the BrailleNote Touch Plus up to each other and see how well they fare against each other. I have both of these devices and was able to use them over time, especially upgrading my Polaris to the 6 when I was offered it by the vendor I went through with a funding source I went through for my Braille Note Touch Plus. They are good note takers for the same price range, however there are features I would like to talk about between both devices that may work for some and may work for others if anyone wants to purchase one of these as their notetaker. Let me start with this!

Disclaimer

This post is based on thoughts, opinions, and experiences from the writer of this blog. She has used these devices and seen how they work and how fast they are, how well they type, and so much more. Please respect her thoughts!

Weight

First off, we’re starting with how much these devices weigh. One thing about these devices is well you can carry them place to place and weight can be a factor for what you choose. The Braille Sense 6 is 1.58 on its own while it’s 2.36 pounds with the case on.  The BrailleNote Touch Plus is 2 Pounds. Not by much when it comes to weight, the BrailleNote Touch Plus is three pounds lighter despite having the Android tablet underneath the Perkins keyboard, however I feel as though the BS6 kept the same weight from its Polaris and don’t feel much carrying it around to its Humanware counterpart despite not having the tablet built into it. If you would rather go without the tablet underneath, then the BS6 would be perfect since I had the Polaris before, going from one convention room to the next without the extra weight made it easier but if the tablet won’t hurt then go with the BNTP. I would say either one would be a great choice since both of them are almost the same weight and do have cases to protect them.

Keyboard

Both keyboards on both devices are in the Perkins Brailler style. H. I M. S. did have the QWERTY style with the QWERTY Plus and the U2 QWERTY which I admit I had the QWERTY Plus when I was at school and earlier press days with Nerd Shique Universe. The layouts are different from each other due to how they were built. The BNTP has the usual six keys for the Braille Cell, the Enter and Delete, and the Space Bar, then you have your cursor keys underneath. WHile the BS6 has your usual Brailler keys but have the F1, F2, F3, and F4 keys alongside an Alt key and a CTRL key to use on the Android platform. The learning curve for both is a little different if you have used devices from both companies like I’m doing now and have been doing for the past year due to how the shortcut structure is different. Yes, first letter navigation is available for both, except the chords are different when it comes to navigating to areas on both devices. One example is doing a copy on the BNTP is delete key with the letter Y. With the BS6 is the letter C with the Enter key. I would say if you’re familiar with a certain way of typing with one device then stick with the brand of devices you’re familiar with, unless you want to switch over for a newer experience depending on which layout seems to be easier. If you have any device demonstrated for you, ask for a demonstration of key commands on both devices.

Typing

With typing on either device, I found that each device can cause a bit of noise depending on your typing speed. I type fifty words per minute and can see how the noise on each device can be cumbersome. To me the BTNP’s keys are noisier than the BS6 since HIMS has been building their devices with keys that are softer while pressing them and have noticed it with the BS6 and the Q Braille as well. While the NNTP, on the other hand, the keys not only click pretty loudly but also have the clocks while inputting Braille. You can turn these clicks off pretty easily in the settings, except the keys themselves can be noisy no matter what you do. I think Humanware should have softer keys in the next notetaker if they decide to make another one in the next few years since HIMS has developed the BS6 but the BS6 has them beat in the typing department due to how quiet they are with input and having not too loud of a typing noise makes it easier, especially if listening to someone on a phone call. I give it to BS6.

Touch Features

One feature that made the Braille Sense Polaris and the BNTP comparable was being able to have the touch features. The BS Polaris had a touch strip in between the display and the cursor routing keys while the BNTP had a built-in touch screen underneath the keyboard. WHat made them unique was that you could touch Braille on the tablet under the BNTP as a quieter option while the BS Polaris only did touch gestures like if you used it as a tablet. Unfortunately, when the BS6 was created they took out the touch gesture ability due to lack of popularity, which there was no tutorial when Humanware does tutorials on how to do Touch Braille on their device. It would have been nice if the touch gestures were kept on the newer Braille Sense since the Android system is faster and the reaction time could have a better speed increase, which was an issue with the Polaris, which I will touch upon next. So, if you want the idea of doing the touch features then the BNTP would be the best device and it wins this category due to keeping the features or shall I say having them in the first place.

Speed

Both devices have pretty good speed when it comes to reaction time. When the Polaris was around, it had Lollipop as its system and it was very laggy and almost lethargic while using it, when the BS6 arrived I was happy that the reaction times were as fast as the BNTP when it comes to opening apps, being able to with saving files, and even downloading books from Bookshare. I have to say both get speed!

Android Systems

Both devices run on tw Both devices run on two different Android versions but they seem to work the same to me. The BNTP runs on Oreo or Android 8 while the BS6 runs on Android 10. Even though 10 is newer, Oreo still runs as smoothly despite how old it is. I did write to Humanware but not sure when will they update the Android version to a later version but hoping they could do it soon since we are already in Android 11 and if they want a leg up, they should either go to 11 or stay in competition may do 10 instead like HIMS has with the BS6. There is one drawback though is that there are times where either device can’t install certain apps due to the version they run, such as One Step Reader is the new version of KNFB Reader is not optimized for BNTP while the BS6 can due to how newer it is. I can’t fault the BNTP for this since I can still use KNFB Reader and it’s useful but would be nicer to have a newer Android version. Humanware, if you’re reading this, we need a newer Android version and now!

Apps

Speaking of apps, there are apps that each device does come with when you first receive them. The BNTP comes with KNFB Reader, which is normally $100 and Easy Reader + and of course your normal Google apps due to having the Android system. While the BS6 comes with Bookshare Download, a Podcasts app, Document Reader, Online DAISY, Google Search, Wiki Search, Assistant And your usual Google apps as well. Of course you can still download apps on Playstore but you have to see which ones are compatible with your device once you check them. One thing though is that not all apps can be available, one example is Kindle is not available for the BS6 but for the BNTP, which I find weird, while Audible is available for both. I do like the other apps you can read with on the BS6 but I do like the idea that I can still use Kindle on the BNTP but it’s not accessible there. It’s basically what you like to use on either device and how much you want to use the apps and install ones that can be used, either device is pretty powerful in this department and being able to stream anime, movies with audio description, and listening to music makes possibilities endless.

Bluetooth

Final category is bluetooth connectivity. One of the features of both is being able to use these devices as Braille Displays through bluetooth. You can connect to your computer with USB but what catches most users’ ears is the bluetooth capabilities. I admit I have trouble using the BNTP with devices besides my IPhone since it’s easier to connect with that. I even tried it with my ChromeBook and it couldn’t connect since laptops that run WIndows have an easier time with the Q Braille due to the bluetooth being easier to connect. The BS6, I have an easier time connecting with any device due to not having a code to pair with, which is the problem with the BNTP. It would be better if the BNTP didn’t require a code like the BS6 and other Braille displays because bluetooth has become more streamlined over the years and easy to pair with. I even had an easier time with my Apple devices since I can use my BNTP with those devices , even my Mac even though I have to unpair it due to using the Q Braille with it for the Function Keys. I have a Macbook with a Touch Bar, that’s why. I did try pairing the BS6 with the Chrome Book but it still has the BNTP with it, I have to try it out again at a later date. I do have to say the bluetooth on the BS6 is easier with other devices that have good bluetooth connections. I think the BS6 wins this category due to how much easier it is to connect even with a computer.

Winner: It’s a Tie!

It’s hard to say who wins what despite how they advance each other in some of the categories but both devices are still powerful for what they are. Not all devices are created equal and after using them both, they are equal in speed, the BS6 has a quieter keyboard over the BNTP, the BNTP still has touch features and I do love the idea of the tablet size for Touch Braille which you need a big screen for that, and of course you have a learning curb in using the keyboard shortcut structure which I’m still learning with the BNTP myself after using Braille Sense devices over the years.

What Should I Get If IAm New to Note Takers?

My advice is to look at both! It doesn’t hurt to go to demonstrations or have someone come to you and demo both devices to show off their features. One thing I could also suggest is ask around before choosing, as in see who has gotten either device and prefer which one over the other since they do work differently. Also, look into Assistive Technology groups that may have members that use the devices as well since they may have different ideas of the both of them from what I brought here. And, of course, think about the features you think you would use more whether it’s at school or work since these devices could be used in either environment, if you can’t pick one, there are lower cost options to think about that work equally as well, especially in the bluetooth department.

That completes this post! If you have either device, drop a comment below or if you’re wanting either one, drop down a comment, I would like to hear what you all think on either side! Next will be my Ipsy bags!

Subscription Satelite: Glossy Box April 2022

Hello to all of you beautiful nerds and welcome back from traveling the vast nerd universe! I know I was going to do my Battle of the Notetakers post but my first beauty box arrived!

Glossy Box April 2022

So, my Glossy Box arrive today and I came home to it on my doorstep. Some cities do mail on Sundays so I sometimes get some of my packages on Sundays. Heck, my first Chrome Bokk arrived while being at Holiday Matsuri. Anyways, this box contains five items that can range from deluxe to full size items and they can be independent to luxury. This is $21 a month, but you can get a discount code for your first box if you see a few YouTube influencers. My first box had a code all thanks to Theresa is Dead. This box is okay but I did laugh at one item I got because of something I did this morning, let’s get to the items.

I was laughing when I saw the scrunchies because this morning I went to get my haircut to a soft pixie bob. My hair has been uneven for years and I tried to cut some uneven tips but didn’t work. I will wear them when I have longer hair but now my hair has short curls. I am excited about the lash primer though since it helps my lashes from giving my eyes an allergic reaction with every mascara I wear. I will see how it works since collagen is good for skin and hair. While with the serum from Suwasu, I placed it on my bathroom counter since I enjoy serums. I did like the toner from Suwasu I got in Ipsy not too long ago, which is to try another product. I will see how this works after knowing the toner was soothing. I did see an eyeliner pencil from Loretzy which is in black. I know I have a ton of black liners and have gotten them all thanks to other subscriptions over time. I never tried this brand but will give them a chance. And of course, the lotion from Thisworks. I never heard of this brand and it looks full size to me instead of travel. I think this will be great for my dry skin. It claims that the lavender is supposed to help with calming to sleep. I hope so since I did try one of those pillow sprays but it kept me awake.

That is it for this post. I think this month’s box was okay, not to the point of disappointing. I think the idea of having some refreshments for spring does make sense with how most people refresh their look or makeup with new items. I will see how these items go. I am waiting for Allure and my Ipsy bags, I will be doing my notetakers post, stay tuned!

Subscription Satelite: Glossy Box March 2022

Hello to all of you beautiful nerds and welcome back from traveling the vast nerd universe! I am back with my final subscription box!

Glossy Box March 2022

Final box is my Glossy Box and man, it was a wait. It shipped later than last month’s box but I was glad to receive it this past week and man I was happy for what’s in my box. This box is $21 a month and you get a mix of full and deluxe size items ranging from prestige to indie and it comes nicely wrapped in a box. Let’s see what I got!

Okay, I need to ask, why did they put an MLM product in this box? I tried searching but nothing appeared. I am against MLM products and how they take advantage of women, including blind women who join, I don’t think I want to use this product and support them again since my experience with their shadows and blush. I know it’s a moisturizer that can help but I am not sure if I want to use it on my face since the product can cause adverse effects if not made well or made with ingredients not meant for sensitive skin. It is supposed to be cooling. Should I or shouldn’t I? I am still using my Rich Bitch moisturizer from Glam Bag X. Moving onto the other items since I am excited about those the most since they are not from MLMs. I’m happy that a hand cream is in this box since my hands do get dry due to the hand washing I have been doing for a long time.I never heard of Merci Handy before so this will be a new brand for me to try out. The Luxie Brush was a great addition to the box due to the Estate shadow quad but when I felt it, it felt more like a blush brush over a shadow brush. I think this would be too big for my eyes so I will use it as a blush brush. I did get excited about the Estate shadow quad the most since I have this brand in Ipsy and I saw there were two different ones to get in this box, I don’t know which one I got but I can’t wait to use it. And of course, Model Co. is back in this box but with a highlighting shimmer whip. I remembered getting the ones from E. L. F. but haven’t used those as much since I prefer the powder ones years ago, except I started using them again and have used the stick ones and of course did enjoy the one from About Face in my Glam Bag Plus this month.  I will definitely try this out since I like to use a powder highlight on top to give more glow and keep it in place. I did link it to the champagne shade, not sure what color they really sent me so it’s a good link to see what item it is at least.

That’s it for this box, I will use the other four products since I’m afraid of the Avon moisturizer. I will probably tweet later to say if I do use the moisturizer or not. What’s next? I will finally do the post about the BrailleNote Touch Plus vs. the Braille Sense 6! Stay tuned!

Subscription Satelite: Ipsy March 2022

Hello to all of you beautiful nerds and welcome back from traveling the vast nerd universe. I am back with another subscription post!

Ipsy March 2022

I got both my Glam Bag and Glam Bag Plus a few days after each other. I feel that this month’s bags had more makeup being centered since I felt I had a lot of skin care and picked makeup items for GB Plus. The regular Glam Bag is $13 and the Glam Bag Plus is $28 a month. In the Glam Bag you get more deluxe size items and sometimes full size ones while GB Plus contains more full size items and you choose three items each month. Let’s see what I got!

Glam Bag:

  • Context Skin Matte Lipstick in Robot Lover
  • Half Baked In Bloom Powder Blush in SoftServe_Queen
  • Pure Brazilian Daily Anti-Frizz Serum
  • Shana B Miami Be Extra Pigment Duo in Venetian Gray and Queen Of Diamonds
  • Winky Lux Super Perfect Under Eye Concealer in Light Beige

This month’s bag was about makeup and one hair item. The product I selected was the Winky Lux Under Eye concealer since it was different from what I’ve seen in past choices. Even though there were concealers in choices for past bags, some months didn’t have the right shade for me and I was glad to choose this one. It was very creamy when I applied it. I just put a dab on my mixing palette and then dabbed it on and blended it with a brush. I figured it was easier than putting a huge glob on my under eyes. It blended very well though. I did use the lipstick from Context Skin since it was my second lipstick from these guys due to getting it last month. It is a medium dark red color which is perfect to wear at work. Plus, it feels good on the lips! I am currently wearing the Shana B Duo and the Half Caked Blush which I was surprised at the size of the blush but I was able to fit my brush very well. I took a look and it is supposed to be a cotton candy shade and so it’s pink. It did go on pretty well. I did use the shadow duo on top of my Mac Paint Pot in Taylor Gray to enhance the gray in the duo. I did find it weird that the other shade felt like it was falling apart slightly. At least this is just a sample I don’t have to worry about. With the anti-frizz serum, I only used it once when I was using my other hair products, I did notice my hair was softer so I have to keep using it.

Glam Bag Plus:

  • About Face Light Lock Fluid in Fight or Flight
  • ViseArt Petit Pourquoi
  • Gerard Cosmetics Hydro Matte Liquid Lipstick in 1995
  • Alleyoop Multi-Tasker
  • MOTD Cosmetics Highlighting Powder in Lucid Moon

Now it’s time for Glam Bag Plus! I wish the final group for choices had better options since I feel like that it always feels meh. Even though the second grouping felt the same way. I did pick some pretty good items and they were the liquid lipstick from Gerard Cosmetics, a sponge and brush duo from Alley Oop and a highlighting powder from MOTD. I was most excited about the Gerard Cosmetics lipsticks because I heard so many good things about these over the years. I was glad to see this item as a choice and picked it. I felt that the applicator was interesting but it did apply a good amount of product. I do carry it with me in my makeup bag for work since it’s a rosey brown shade. I will have to check more things out by this brand since I heard good things about the eye primer. I am wearing both of the MOTD and About Face highlighters on my face at the moment. I did the same thing with the concealer by applying the About Face liquid on the pallet and applying it with my fingers and then used the MOTD highlighter with a brush to blend the two together. I like the idea that the About Face liquid is in dropper packaging and it helps with product distribution and won’t go all over the place. I do have another all thanks to an About Face duo I picked up from the Offers page. I haven’t used the Vise Art shadow quad as of yet. Wait! It is an eight pan! I will try it out and see how it goes!

That is it for this pair of bags. I’m happy with this month’s bags and what I chose. I’m thinking of linking each product again with each bullet point, and will do that whenever I get my Glossy Box. I did check on its status and nothing about shipment, I did ask them and they explained that it would ship within the month and it’s already the second to last week of the month. Still will be looking out for it. Hoping it does arrive and that is the next post!
