Favorites Quadrant: First Quarter 2020

Hello to all of you beautiful nerds and welcome back from traveling the vast universe! I am back with another post!

First Quarter Favorites 2020!

It’s time for the first quarter favorites. As you probably have seen at the end of last year that I was going to do quarterly favorites instead of bi-monthly favorites this year. It’s kind of stressful and easier to talk about my favorites and what I’ve been using and what I think! Let’s get into it!

Not-So-Favorite: E. L. F. Putty Eye Shadow Primer: First is not much of a fave because it sucked! The E. L. F. Putty Eye Primer was it this time around! For a little while now I’ve been using the Poreless Putty Primer which I got in my final Allure Beauty Box and remembered how Jeffree Starr said this was approved by him and everyone bought it out everywhere as in everywhere sold out until now which you can buy again. I was able to find it at my local Target which was good. When I saw that they have an eye shadow primer I decided to pick it up and when I used it it was not my favorite. It was so dry I was afraid that my shadow was not showing. I even asked the Collective Brain at What’s up in Makeup and people experienced the same thing except the rose one. I did not go further to try this because I was so done with it and I have tried better eye primers, heck the Lorac one that came with their Pro Pallets is better than this one. I would say use your favorite eye primer guys because this was not worth it!

Favorite Moisturizer: Tony Moley Choc Choc Green Tea moisturizer: Next is from Tony Moley and have been enjoying what I’ve been using from them and this is one of them and that is their Choc Choc Green Tea Moisturizer. I use this at night to keep my face moisturized even before putting on my makeup and this feels really cooling to the skin. I was hoping to use the smaller tube I got in a bundle from Ipsy which I got Green Tea Sheet Masks, this and the the hand cream and like I said hoped to use it during Omni but with what’s going on in the world I have it with my daily makeup case. I will definitely buy this again since it doesn’t cost too much, it is almost the same price as Celestial from Lush except I get more moisture from this and green tea does have a lot of skin benefits.
Second Favorite Moisturizer: Murad Essential C Moisturizer! Another favorite is the Murad Essential C Moisturizer and glad to try it all thanks to GB Plus. I am glad that I’m getting to try out Murad all thanks to them and glad that 21 Days of Beauty put Murad on sale and this was one of the items on sale during this past one for half off and to tell you the truth is that this is the first SPF item I enjoy. As you know I have sensitive skin and sometimes SPF infused skin care and makeup doesn’t work out for me. First time this happened was with the Paula’s Choice Moisturizer with SPF 20 from my Ipsy August 2014 and my skin even hated the IT Cosmetics CC Cream I tried later due to the SPF. I was worried that it would do the same with this one and I decided to try it without makeup on top and it worked out and then the next day for work I had it underneath makeup and no break outs! It helps that this brand is meant for sensitive skin types like me and I can see why Grav3yard Girl loves this brand and I am enjoying it since I did get another tube of their AHA & BHA Cleanser I also tried all thanks to GB Plus and it was also on sale during 21 Days. I hope the Water Gel is in the next one which I say if you are curious to try Murad after what I have tried wait for the 21 Days of Beauty sale because it goes half off during that time at Ulta because this brand is very pricey even was surprised that this moisturizer is $60. Ow! Again wait for the 21 Days of Beauty for Murad’s sales.

Favorite Cleanser: Tony Moley Foaming Peach Cleanser! Next is a cleanser and that is from Tony Moley again but this time it’s their Peach Foaming Cleanser from their peach line! This fits the claims because it is really gentle on the skin, it foams and feels as good on the skin as it does and it smells amazing! I have tried the Peach Cleansing Sherbet but it is not as good as the Foaming Cleanser. I will definitely keep on buying this even on sale since I did go through the President’s Day special where it was Buy One Get One Half Off I believe but it was worth it and will keep me stocked. So far so good Tony Moley has been great on my skin and they are really sensitive skin friendly!

Favorite Body Scrub: HEMPZ Herbal Body Scrub! Next is a body scrub which is a first. Since the end of last year my legs have been dry and itchy for a long while and even developed scaly bits on my legs. I tried everything even layering body lotions until this popped up in one of my Ulta emails and that is that HEMPZ had new items including an herbal body scrub and had to try it. I noticed it because I was getting a coffee body scrub in GB Plus and figured it would help with my legs and it is helping out. My skin is losing some of the dryness at a slow rate but it is helping as time goes on. Skin care doesn’t work overnight so at least it is helping getting the scales off and I am not itchy anymore which is good. Yay! Will keep on using though.

Favorite Face Primer: E. L. F. Poreless Putty Primer! Like I mentioned above I’ve been using the E. L. F. Poreless Putty Face Primer lately. I’ve been enjoying the creaminess and how much my makeup stays on top. It does have a hard application with my Cover Girl Clean Makeup since I have to wet my sponge to spread it all over a bit more to get a better application. I don’t get why this product is creamier than the Putty Eye Primer? Okay E. L. F., whatever you did with this primer with the creamy consistency add it to the eye version because it needs it!

Favorite New Mascara: Flower Beauty Lash Warrior Mascara! Lately I’ve been wearing more mascara to work because I became allergic to my Holy Grail Lash Gel and Brow Gel duo from E. L. F. the past couple of months and then switched to lash primers and mascaras which has been helping with application and not causing me any adverse effects. I am still trying out lash primers to see how they go but the mascara I’ve been enjoying is the Flower Beauty Lash Warrior Mascara. This makes my lashes look amazing every time I wear it to work. I even worn it when I just put makeup at home. I miss wearing stuff from Flower Beauty and should keep on using this brand.

Favorite Face Pallet: Wonder Beauty Trip for Two Blush & Bronzer Duo! Next up is the Trip Two from Wonder Beauty. There are times where I reach for this and use it since it is easy to use. The bronzer is on the right and the blush is on the left and just dip brushes in and it’s good enough to travel with due to how small it is. Glad that I got this in one of my subscriptions because it’s easy to reach when I want to use one face pallet for my looks.

Favorite Highlighter: Colour Pop Stick in Peach! Last makeup item goes to the Color Pop Highlighter Sticks in Peach. When I was looking for a peach highlighter I found this one and found it amazing! Not only that when I wore it back in December to a party a friend did comment how my skin looked with this on. It is amazing and very smooth to get onto the cheeks. At first it was a bit rough but now it’s easier to get on. I hope this doesn’t get discontinued by Color Pop because it’s a good product and I enjoy it!

Favorite Book Series Thus Far: Playful Brides Series by Valerie Bowman! One of the books I’ve been reading leading up to the one I need to review is in the series called the Playful Brides. It’s a historical fiction series and I’ve been enjoying what I’ve been reading so far. It’s cute and the girls like Lucy, Cassandra, and now Jane are enjoyable. I am on book three where Jane is having her time to shine and it’s cute so far since she wants to be a spinster but she’s getting involved with a scandal. I have to keep on reading and don’t worry I will reach the book I need to review soon!

Favorite Song: “About a Voyage” by Sayori! I’ve been getting this song stuck in my head ever since Season 4 of My Hero Academia was being dubbed and it’s called “About a Voyage.” It’s very catchy and the funny thing is that the opening bars sound so innocent but when it starts that’s when it changes to an all-out rock song! I did download it and it’s on my phone and do play it when it gets in my head. Got to love how anime gets the catchiest songs!

Favorite Clothes Item: My Hero Academia Chibi Skater Skirt and United States of Smash Tour Long-Sleeved Shirt! Speaking of My Hero Academia! I do love this outfit and that is my chibi character skirt and my United States of Smash Tour shirt of All Might and the states that had smashes he has done. I even worn it to the second movie premiere back in February. This is what happens when I become a major fan of a series.
So guys that ends this favorites post! I think I prefer doing this because it gives me more time to try more things and bring it back to you guys in this post! I hope you all enjoyed it and can’t wait to bring new things to the next Quarterly Favorites in August! I should be getting my GB Plus Tuesday so stay tuned!

THe Favorites Quadrant: May & June 2019

Hello to all of my beautiful nerds and welcome back from traveling the vast universe! I am back with another post!

May and June Favorites 2019!

It’s that time again and that’s my favorites for May and June! We’re already halfway through this year and already heading into July which I can’t believe it. Before I know it it will be one year since I started working an actual job! Let’s see ‘what I liked and what I thought about my subscriptions!

Subscription Thoughts:

Well, these two months were really good for BoxyCharm, Ipsy, and Glam Bag Plus while May was very disappointing for Allure and June was better for it. All I have to say is that to any box subscription that may tumble onto this post I do have to say is that not everyone likes to self-tan!!! I know we all want to look like people in California and Florida with their bronze tanned skin but not everyone likes to do that even with how it can be patchy and the process to get to having that even tan is even more annoying. I am still thinking back to Good Luck Charlie where Teddy had her tanning session with a spray one messed up because Charlie took the timer that she was using and turned orange. I even remembered a pic that Jen put in of a girl having a really dark hand on her mouth and her loved ones thought she was being kidnapped but no she screwed up the tan. Again, I am not into self-tanning and I don’t want to look like an orange at work and have my co-workers ask me, “What happened to you?” When I have really nice light to medium skin and to me we should embrace our skin tone sometimes me of those chemicals can be dangerous. I did toss out the two San Tropes tanners that Allure and BoxyCharm sent me including the glove that came with the one from BoxyCharm because I am not using it neither the face mist from Allure because I prefer keeping my foundation shade thank you very much. So, rant over! There is one product I am really loving and that is the Tarte Be Naturally You pallet from this month’s BoxyCharm! I have been using this pallet for work looks and I love how pigmented and smells amazing! I keep my pallet on top of my work makeup box. On my vanity. I was also excited for these boxes because May was my first Glam Bag Plus and so far my first two months they have been amazing until one item and that is the Girllactic lip balm pencil that I was using. I have been using lip pencils as lip colors and well when I wore this underneath my lip pencil and my lip gloss from Allure this month it felt a bit drying, well too during and it felt a bit numbing. Even though I love lip balms and everything but I feel like these are a bit drying and whishing it felt like more of one those lip crayons from Wet N Wild and other brands that are more of a chubby stick not a sharpening pencil. Plus the glitter effect makes it more drying and I hope they could change these to the chubby stick instead. I am glad to try this brand finally and same with Suba Beauty with the Hydroliner which is an interesting product and glad to see what it was about. It was easy to apply because it was not like liquid liner and I didn’t feel it run either. It was very controlled due to it using water rather not being a liquid liner. I hope I get to try these more for being such a great and interesting product and I don’t feel like Benji from Good Charlotte. And lastly, I did the collaboration with Tetris that Ipsy had done for June because it shows that we can love video games as beauty enthusiasts and I do like the items in the collection except the lip balms because they’re drying. The shadows are great and blendable and I do love the brushes! I did get two of my friends the shadow pallets and they love them which makes me happy! I hope more brands do this because we’re all nerds! I know Wet N Wild will be doing Pac Man this year not sure when but I know it’s soon. I can’t wait to see what July brings me for my boxes!

Beauty Faves:

Maybelline Studio Fix Setting Spray: First is a making setting spray and it’s from Maybelline and that is their Face Studio Setting Spray. I found this through Shipt on Target and decided to get it. What I like is this is bigger than the Wet N Wild ones because I have to get two of those to last me two months but this one has lasted me since the end of May to now and we’re going into July. I do have a drawback though where I do like how it makes my makeup stay and it doesn’t feel so itchy but if you spray too close your makeup becomes splotchy! Gondras noticed since he moved in and then a supervisor did and man it was embarrassing! I did start spraying a bit farther but what sucks is that I can’t find this anymore on SHipt. I did find it on CVS’ selection but it was a different one from this but too pricey. Here in Florida the CVS locations upcharge like crazy when I get most of this lesser than them. I did start getting NYX again so I am going to see how that goes.

Fair’s Cucumber and Witch Hazel Toner: The past month and a half or more I have been into toners again all thanks to the Momond Rose Toner I got in Allure and decided to look into the drugstore ones since that one is $30 and this one I have been using is $7.50 at Target and it does smell weird but it does help my skin. It does have a nice cooling effect and use it twice a day to keep my skin healthy. I do have their rose one to see how that goes and glad I got into toners again!

Formula 10.06 Rescue Me Blemish Treatment and Mark Gel: Next are two skin care favorites from Formula 10.06 or was it 1006? Anyways, I got into this brand all thanks to Ipsy sending me the Three Times Sublime in one of my bags and fell in love with that which next post I will be doing the brands I bought from my subscriptions. These two items are gels to help with acne blemishes and spots after they dissolved and it has been helping out so far. The Rescue Me gel even smells very good and I put that on before the Mark Gel so it would help with shrinking the blemishes and their marks that they would leave behind. I am glad this brand is good for sensitive skin people which is pretty important to me. I will keep on using this brand.

Three Quarter Sleeve Tops: Next is a fashion item and that is three quarter sleeve tops. Since I’m working it’s important to dress the part and I’ve been shopping around on Amazon for work clothing and I find it a lot of fun lately since I’m doing it for myself and no one is doing it for me. I remembered one time I asked my mom to get me clothes for interviews and any work experiences and I made the mistake of saying get some with some designs and got stuff with prints from the 1980s from what Gondras had told me. Heck, a pair of pants was a good example with the orange and red patterns. I should have stuck with saying solids and when I started to shop for myself I started with getting more solid colored tops and bottoms which I have gotten a nice pencil skirt on Amazon and just got a navy one since I loved the white one so much. I like the three quarter sleeve tops the most because they’re really comfortable and come in a variety of colors and styles. I have three with scoop necks and one with a V-neck to it and man I love them! I am going back for two more of the V-necks and glad I found these!

Well guys, that’s it for this bi-monthly favorites! I will be doing a post on brands I buy from that I have gotten in my subscriptions since there are some I do buy from them due to how I have enjoyed what I’ve sampled. SO, stay tuned for that!

Hauls + Accessibility: Hot Cash April 2018 Haul and Microsoft Soundscape Review!

Hello Shiquers and welcome back to Nerdy Shique Universe! Well, here is a mash up I never thought I would do! You know I love shopping even at Hot Topic and tech and this is a mash of tech and a haul since I got my Hot Cash Haul for 2018 and tested out a new app while I’m at it! Let’s start with the haul shall we?

Hot Cash Haul April 2018!

So, Hot Cash has come and gone at Hot Topic and this time all thanks to some purchases in February I did get two of them and it was a hard thing to choose when knowing what to get in order to meet that amount you have to get a discount! I had #30 off this time around let’s see what I got!

Sailor Moon Sailor Guardian Symbols Earring Set! You all know that I have been a Sailor Moon fan for the longest time and and had a major nostalgia bomb when I watched the re-dub. When I saw these on the website, I knew I had to have them. They are earrings of the original five guardian symbols that you see in the series when they reveal themselves as Sailor Guardians. I was really happy about it due to the Jupiter symbol in there since Jupiter is my all-time fave scout or guardian! Sorry! I wished they made the earrings Sailor Moon and Mars wore, I always wanted those!
Spike Gem Earrings! I know it sounds crazy but these earrings are almost like icicles in a way but they’re plastic spikes. I kind of feel like Hot Topic is coming back with the spike items since I saw a choker with spikes with a ring in it like in the past which I almost got but decided not to. These earrings were interesting and never seen before. I have gotten the spiked hoops which were heavy but looked great and even worn them with my Digimon character but these are cool! I feel like I had my ears pierced with these but they are more of a stud style. Hot Topic! Make more earrings like these!
Loki Septor Necklace! You all know who know me, I love Tom Hiddleston’s Loki from the Marvel movies! I can’t help it because he does it so well! While looking for items for this haul, I was looking for items related to the Avengers due to Infinity War coming out today and found Loki’s septor as a necklace. I added it to my bag right away and was surprised that when I got it it was a horizontal charm necklace like my Panic! At the Disco one. I’m wearing this with my Fairy Tail emblem and Panic! Necklaces and it gives an interesting layer when you look at it. Oh yeah, next author pic, I’m wearing these three necklaces!
New Doctor Who Logo Shirt! I did get two t-shirts since there are times where my large tees don’t fit as well as they used to due to my shoulders and I’m pretty much plus sized at the moment. This shirt was something I’ve been wanting for a while and that is my new Doctor Who logo shirt. As we all know is that the new season is coming out this fall and with it there is a new logo and Hot Topic happened to have a shirt with it and released it around February but decided to wait a bit before I got it since I was getting Hot Cash. The wait was worth it since I got the $30 off my entire order. I’m happy that I finally got it and can’t wait for the newest season in the fall!
Avengers Infinity War Collage Tee! So, Infinity War is out and I thought it would be perfect to get a shirt for the newest movie and the good thing that Hot Topic had a ton of t-shirts to choose from based on Marvel. I got the one where all the characters are in a collage since in this movie we will be seeing a ton of characters appearing and can’t wait! In case anyone is wondering, yes I caught Sebastian Stand, Bucky Barnes, on The Talk yesterday and it was great watching him talk a little bit of the movie and the pics they took as one big cast. I can’t wait to see this movie and will be wearing my Thor Thunderbolts and Loki Septor!

Additional Items:

Exchanged Sailor Moon Cat Cup for Pushin Cat Bottle! Well, after this order, I did notice Hot Topic was doing a discount code but couldn’t use it with Hot Cash so I went for the Sailor Moon cats travel cup. I didn’t know it was going to be one of those cups you tend to get for a kid when I saw it in person or felt it. I thought it was going to be a sealed tumbler because when you hear “travel cups” you think to that or the mug version and was wrong. I had to exchange it for something better and it’s a water bottle with pushin cats! It may not be a tumbler but it also has cats! I love this thing even if it has the straw inside. The reason why I prefer sealed bottles or tumblers is because I tend to knock over my drinks and with it being sealed tight there would be no spills. I am glad that this one is the same way where you have tightly sealed and the straw comes up easily.

Avengers Infinity War Makeup Pallet and Too Many Dead Pools Shirt! Gondras brought me a coupon that Hot Topic had sent him and he knew I would put it to good use and I did! What got me to use it is that they advertised an eye shadow pallet based on the Infinity Stones from the Marvel movies and other shades in it. I was hoping they would have it in store but they sold out and had to go online. What else I picked up was a Dad Pool shirt since the last Dead Pool shirt I got for I was many years ago and it was of him with the cake and the portal behind him as a Portal joke. I got the one with Too Many Dead Pools. I almost got the one with him and Domino but this one was funnier and I prefer the funnier shirts with him, I mean Gondras has the one of him punching a shark that Nerdy Shirts got him. Now my shopping spree is over.

Soundscape!

Besides picking up my order, I did have a bit of a mobility test with myself and it’s with an app I’ve been using lately and it’s called Soundscape which is made by Microsoft and only available in the App Store on IOS devices. What got me to get this app is because of one situation with paratransit during my customer service training at the local Lighthouse. There are times where I get home early and other times I get home so late it’s unacceptable and this time it was really unacceptable because I live nearby the Lighthouse which is around thirty minutes or less but nope! They didn’t get me home until close to 8 at night! Even Gondras was on the phone with me when it happened and that is why he picked me up during the last weeks of training because it made him mad and concerned that they are doing this time to time. I understand that too since there are times where some people need priority drop offs.

What is this app? Well, it’s basically a location app that uses your Location Tracking to tell you were you are with the “My Location” button which tells you the direction you’re heading or what place you’re at, what’s around you with the “Around Me” button which tells you the businesses and intersections and streets around you if you’re walking or on the bus, what’s ahead of you with “Ahead of Me” which tells you what road and intersection or business is ahead. This app tells me what’s in the park next to my neighborhood in miles! Good thing is that I use it to see if I am heading home or not on the paratransit to see where the driver drove to. Gives you a better perspective. So, I decided to test this app out at Altamonte Mall which is where I was picking up my package and wanted to test it out in a semi-crowded mall. When I went today, I decided to have the transit system drop me off at Barnes & Noble to make it easier than picking a random department store. I decided why not use the Beacon Setting which now it added a feature where I can mute and unmute the beacon noise in order to hear the announcements and if I’m ready to come back. I did use the Beacons on Tuesday when I went to Walgreens with the paratransit after an appointment with Blind Services to look at my new Braille device that’s being purchased and happy about and set the Beacon Setting with Walgreens and went to lunch at the nearby pizza place and enjoyed two slices of pizza and walked back to Walgreens to wait for my ride. This time I used it with Barnes & Noble since that was going to be my pick up point at the end of the day and muted the noise because it can be a little distracting. I turned on the announcements and when I walk by places, which I walked around the top floor first to get a better feel and for Soundscape to catch everything so if I were to come back to a place I would know where to get back to. I did use my sensory training from Daytona Beach as well to hear any key sounds, notice some lights that are particularly bright, and any unique music coming from a particular store.

Even Life after Sight Loss did talk about this on their YouTube, which I also thank them for this app in the first place, and using that sensory recognition to know where is what can tell you a lot. One thing that tells Hot Topic apart is the metal that is usually played on the speakers, Bath & Body Works and now White Barn Candle have their usual scents wafting outside in the corridor, which you can smell a mile away, there’s a popcorn stand where you smell the butter and at least it’s a lot lighter than it used to be. All-in-all this app is really good but I wish not only Soundscape give the unit of measurement, either in yards or meters depending on the setting, but tells you if it’s on the left or right of you because when I walk I tend to not know if a certain store or aisle is on my left or right and without that it can be a little confusing. Microsoft if you read this, which I will be tagging them on Twitter, add that to the settings or have it automatic because it can help some people that need that added information.

Rating On The App: 4.5 Star Paw prints Out of 5! This app is a really good app and so far Microsoft has been hitting it on the ball with helping in the Accessibility department. They have added more support with JAWS even with Edge which I still need a new license key in order to play around with Edge. Their mobile apps are really good which I love using Seeing A. I. for doing product identification, color help, and even short text reading. While Soundscape, it does give you the locations and it did that for me in Altamonte very well. I want to try this app at Florida Mall since that mall is huge and crowded due to how big of a tourist spot it is and of course I heard that there’s an Inglot store which I never knew and just seeing their cosmetics with just number labels don’t help me at all so I need to explore more with this app and I will give you another review in how much it works at the Florida Mall. If you think I should try it out at other malls or places Like Disney Springs for example, I would love to do that! If you’re visually impaired and need an app like this, I would say try it out since not all apps are for everyone, I did have my teacher in the training course download it and she did suggest it at the Lighthouse Reunion since it did give her the location updates. And a head’s up, any Android users, it’s not available for Android. Hoping there will be a version for those users along with Soundscape.

Well, that’s it for this post! I know it was pretty lengthy but it was something I wanted to share and add something to the Accessibility part of this blog. I will see how it works anywhere else and hoping more things get added. Stay tuned later on today for a new book review! Make sure you follow us on Twitter for the latest updates @ Nerdy Shique!

Tags: Baby Bat Days!

Hello Shiquers and welcome back to Nerdy Shique Universe! I’m back with a new post and it is all thanks to my best friend Vivi Blanc and she created a new tag known as the “Baby Bat Days” tag. I felt like why not do a post since I already did a video over on my channel and haven’t done any tag posts on here for the longest time so why not?

A little disclaimer, with her questions, I will answer to the best of my knowledge because I’m kind of bordering Steam Punk/goth/rocker/nerd since there are times where there is a little bit of Goth inside of us. I do look at the positives of life so don’t get annoyed about that.

1. How old were you when you started in the sub culture? Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm! It’s hard to say because I really don’t know. But I could say the real age I was introduced to something goth-like was around fifteen when I started my more punk rock journey.
2. How you were first introduced to the sub-culture? Well, I knew some people who were Goth, well mostly one person when I was 17. She was mostly a punk but I think she was borderline Goth especially with the spikes as one element. Nowadays she thinks I’m just a fake. Well, you earn some and lose some.
3. Did you start with the music or the fashion? I think I mostly started with the beauty aspect so you can call it fashion is where I started and most of the time I wore gothic elements with my cosplay especially with my Soul Eater character Kiosk Ishida, even with the chains and ripped up casual shirt and pants. I am going to re-vamp the costume for a different outfit design. So, yeah mostly the beauty aspects since I started wearing bolder lip colors and smoky looks even with the neutral colors on top of it since most smoky pallets do have the neutral aspects. My five bold lipstick to wear happens to be the NYX Cosmic Metals blue and green ones.
4. How did your family/friends feel about you being Goth? Has it changed? Well, when I started wearing the spikes my mom hated it because she was expecting me to be more like the other girls in school who were preppy and snobby but I always followed the “Be Yourself” aspect of life and I always wanted to shop at Hot Topic rather than JCPenny and Charlotte Rousse. The store I hated going into that existed in my early high school years was Paul Harris and she always wanted me to go in there for clothes. I was different from everyone in my family, even from my ex-sis-in-law. My mom did get over it by the time I hit around 24 because she realized that I wouldn’t listen and just let me be because I was accepted as who I was even if I did go blind. While my friends, Gondras and Chibi hated the spikes because it poked them! I did tone them down even though I wore them with cosplay even as Hatsuharu, I wasn’t kidding with the cosplay parts. Oh right, when I was with THEE X his family thought I was weird but didn’t matter after the break up! Nowadays Gondras doesn’t mind the Goth elements since I do wear the darker lipsticks even Ion from Kat Von D he did like on me.
5. How confident were you when you started and how confident are you now? Hmmmmm I guess I was a little overbearing because I wanted to fit in and was seen as a poser even to the punks. I tried a little too hard and hardly tried at all back then as time goes on, I just let it flow and be myself. Now? Well, there are times when I think about doing something for goth add-ons but never go through with it, I guess I was afraid of being judged since I do still wear spikes but not the super sharp ones and now that I’m looking to start my career I know it will be hard to switch but if I were to open my business, I want to be comfortable in whatever I wear if I’m not hurting anyone.
6. Were you into any other alternative/subculture groups before Goth? Yes, punk stuff! I know the spikes were considered as “punk” but I do admit I did try a little too hard being more punk when some punks were annoyed with me and was seen as the poser. I did love listening to Good Charlotte, New Found Glory (absolutely loved them and even sang along with all of their songs) which that made two girls mad once. I should tell this story now! So, I was wearing one of my Good Charlotte shirts and two girls came onto the bus since we were heading home. I was a senior at this point and one of them asked, “Do you like Good Charlotte?” I said, “Yeah.” As I put a CD in my CD player (yes, those existed back then) and she goes, “You shouldn’t be listening to them.” I go, “Why?” Her buddy goes, “Because they’re not really punk!” The other noticed I was putting in my copy of NFG’s self-titled album and goes, “Ewww! NFG!” I just ignored them on the way home because I didn’t care. I did remember seeing one of the girls while heading for math once and asked, “So, do you think you’re punk!?” I nodded and just walked off. So glad I didn’t see those two after that since they were annoying. Anyways, yep, was mostly into punk.
7. What was the worst experience when starting in the subculture? Hmmmmmm can’t really say anything that was the worst except getting mad at someone at NYX making fun of my best buddy Vivi for her dress and look that day while I was wearing my fedora with a skull and piercings on it, my Harley Quin goggles, and my Doctor Who shirt for a steam punk look that day for a photo shoot. Didn’t know it happened until either Stellar or Vivi mentioned it and I guess glared a little. I guess everyone expects us to look like a model walking into NYX when NYX is known for making bolder makeup.
8. What has been the best experience while starting out? Oh man! I would have to say getting my flame sleeved hoodie! My mom at the time was always the type where you had to get a new piece of clothing when the seasons are turning or school starts, etc. Heck, her thing is mostly shoes, at least I don’t have to worry about that since my current pair of Vans have lasted me three years so far. Anyways, I was at Hot Topic mostly looking for cosplay stuff and this was when I did crappy, cheap cosplay and not kidding since I used a vampire cape as my trench coat as Dark for a few years. I found my hoodie at the front among the winter stuff and saw the sleeves and wanted it so badly because it was different and unique and couldn’t find it anywhere else and when my mom found me I pointed it out and told her I wanted it and she kind of turned her head sideways even when I tried it on and she gave in after knowing it fits and got it! I loved that hoodie and worn it for a long time until the zipper broke off.
9. Do you have any pics from back then? No!
10. If you could go back to change anything, what would you change? Definitely the poser part! I felt like no matter what I did people still bullied me and made fun of me, even mocked me, and I could’ve shopped a little more for my clothes rather than my mom. I did say I was different and plus could’ve stood up to her a little more because I felt like I couldn’t be different and express my wardrobe a lot more. I admit I am not into blouses nor skirts unless if they have a logo or something on it I like like my Doctor Who dress and my RWBY skirt for example. Still, I could’ve said when she got on my case for having spiked bracelets and my five keychains on my chain wallet, “I’m different and you have to accept it! I may wear spikes and rocker tees that are always printed on black shirts, it’s just who I am and no one else is going to change me with a wand. I will still be the same!”
Well, that’s about it! I think this was a hard tag but I think I did pretty well! I think it was a nice change from book reviews at the moment so there you go! So, stay tuned for anything from Omni Expo!

Shopping: Holiday Gift Guide 2017!

Hello Shiquers and welcome back to Nerdy Shique Universe! It is November and we are getting closer to Christmas and you know what that means! It is time for a gift guide here. I have done gift giving advice here and back on Myspace when it was a thing and now it is time for a gift guide in case if you need some ideas!

MakeUp Sets: First is makeup sets! We all know the beauty lovers in our lives and getting that perfect makeup gift would help. We do have the beginners and experts that we know when it comes to makeup and Holiday time is when the brands come out with their own makeup set. I have gotten some in the past and even purchased a few for myself this year and they are worth it. Some of the makeup sets that are big this year include Tarte’s Holiday sets which you can find at Ulta and Sephora depending on who has what, Kat Von D’s Saint & Sinner pallet which would be a big one to ask on any list, but if you want to go for drugstore E. L. F. has released a lot of sets from brushes to highlighters and even stocking stuffer gifts. If you want a better list of sets, I would suggest watching Kat and Hayleigh (sorry if I butchered the spelling) on Beauty News since they talk a lot about new releases even for holiday and Jen Luv’s Reviews for new holiday releases every week on What’s Up In MakeUp and I suggest joining the Facebook group since everyone helps in suggesting products so asking for what gift to ask for or get for someone special they are willing to help. Heck, they helped me with selfie advice.

When it comes to some sets I would suggest, I would suggest the Ulta sets in Be Gorgeous, Beauty Treasures, and Love MakeUp because not only you get a lot of makeup but it does come in nice cases that you can keep. If you have someone that loves jewelry boxes, I would suggest the Beauty Treasures because you can remove the face and eye pallets for convenience since they are not in the signature plastic casing like the Be Gorgeous one. Plus you can go through the drawers very easily for what you need for instance, one drawer is for the concealers and eye primers, another one is for the brow powders, gel liners, cream shadows, and eye topcoats, and the last drawer has the lip items, the brow mascara, and a blush brush and dual ended eye brush. You would pay a bit more for this and good thing is the eye pallet has a lot of warm and cool shades to play with. If you have someone that loves train cases more for convention travel or vacations, then the Be Gorgeous and Love MakeUp sets are for them. I just got the Love MakeUp on sale and these two sets do have your usual eye shadow pallet which the Be Gorgeous comes with 42 shades while Love Makeup comes with 36 and you can create a lot of looks with these and you do have your essentials like your bronzers, gel liners, brow powders, but interesting thing is that the Love MakeUp does not come with the primers. I would suggest using your usual eye primers with the Be Gorgeous and Beauty Treasures sets because I find the Ulta primers in these sets too drying. Also, with Love MakeUp you do get lip liners. I would say for either of these sets to see which one would be worth more to give and again to see if the person loves train cases or jewelry boxes. These sets do retail for $29 which is Beauty Treasures and $24 for the other two but they do have specials on the train case sets.

Nerd Memorabilia: Here at Nerdy Shique Universe, we do include nerds when it comes to giving gifts and many stores do carry a lot of merch based on Doctor Who, Harry Potter, even Dungeons & Dragons. Your best places to find these things are Barnes & Noble, especially the ones with music and movies being sold, Best Buy where they sell Marvel themed thumb drives and other pop culture related things mixed with tech, F. Y. E. for a lot of your merch and tees, Hot Topic being the biggest, and two more stores to mention that we do have here in Orlando and they are Pop Cult where there are way more pop culture items like Hello Kitty, Pokemon, and more, and Box Lunch which has more of the classic pop culture stuff like Miyazaki films and 90’s themed stuff. Gondras did get me a Gigi from Kiki’s Delivery Service as a coin bank last year for Christmas from Box Lunch by the way. Nice thing about that place, they do put your purchases in a lunchbox like carton since it does match the name. I know I will be hitting the Hot Topic website for Gondras this year! Lol

Bath & Body Sets: I know a lot of us love to pamper ourselves after a stressful week at work, heck even a stressful weekend at a convention, so having a a set of bath or skin care or body products to help soothe that aching foot or to calm the skin from stress is a way to go. Many brands have been coming out with sheet masks to help with the skin, even on a plane which I hear people use sheet masks to help with the dry air on a plane, and you know the holidays are HUGE for travel! You can get some of these sets from Sephora where they have skin care sets from Glam Glow, Tachia, Boshia, and much more. Emily Noelle even talked about some masks she got with holiday scents recently like pumpkin spice and sugar cookie and I think those are Ulta and you do have other brands at Ulta like Tony Moley, their in house brand of bath sets that you can get Buy One Get One 50% Off at the moment. I do hear the scents from Ulta do smell good. And of course, Bath & Body Works, my kryptonite with their Christmas scents! And of course, can’t forget Lush because they do have awesome gift sets with bath bombs, bubble bars, and they do come with mini shower gels in there too and good thing about getting these sets from Ulta, or Bath & Body Works, and Lush is that if the person never tried them before this is how you can try them. That is how I got into Lush by the way, Mommy Gondras did work for them seasonally back in 2007 and I got a gift box from their Christmas line and I was addicted, even to Snow Fairy. So, every year is Snow Fairy right after Christmas! So yes, sets are a good way to go!

Luxury Brand Sets: I can’t forget about this because there are times where we know someone that loves that luxury skin care brand or makeup brand and there are times where the singles are a bit pricey. A lot of the luxury brands do come out with their own holiday sets and if you have saved up a lot over time then getting a set like this would give the luxury lover a ton to try. One good set definitely to recommend are the mud mask sets from Glam Glow because you get to sample some of their more popular masks in one single set rather than trying to buy it for $50 (just guessing) and around this time there is the Sephora sale depending on your membership level you get 15% as a Bauty Insider and 20% for VIB and VIB Rouge which does help even when it comes to early gift shopping.

Train Cases: I feel like bringing these up as a possible gift item especially when I mentioned the Ulta sets before and that is train cases. If you don’t want to get the Ulta sets, there are the usual train cases that we love to travel with, heck I am going to be using my pink caboodle for Holiday Matsuri since that is what I use for my convention makeup stuff. These last you for a long time and they do come in many sizes and price ranges. I have a six tray one and it was $24 if I remembered and I got it from WalMart two years ago. Trust me, I have a lot of stuff to put in, lol! Anyways, besides WalMart selling these, you can find at Target, Ulta, and I believe Sephora too and of course Amazon and EBay does carry some of the older ones you may not be able to find in store anymore.

MakeUp Bags: Besides train cases, you can also get a loved one a makeup bag because a lot of us do travel and having that makeup bag is very handy! They come in all shapes and sizes and even in nerd memorabilia, heck I have a Pikachu and an Artemis one from Hot Topic since you know me, plus they do come as sets depending on the brand. For instance, Too Faced has a set where you get three mini shadow pallets, their Better Than Sex Mascara, and other items in a makeup bag. Even MAC has some such as their mini lip glass trio, which you can use the little makeup bag afterwards for lip stuff, bobby pins, and other things when you are on the go. Also, Sephora has really big ones every holiday and they come oujt with new designs for every holiday so you can get what you like. And in case if you are at a department store browsing makeup counters, some of the brands do include makeup bags as gifts with purchase, I do admit I take my mom’s Lancome ones due to how spatious they are. Lol! Speaking of gift sets…

Perfume and Cologne Sets: Besides beauty and clothing, there are the loved ones that love to smell good! I usually ask for perfume but due to how many bottles I have I have slowed down incredibly! Anyways, sets are a good thing to go with because there are times when a brand wants to treat the customer or their loved ones by selling the set together and they do come with pretty sweet stuff like a shower gel and lotion and sometimes even a bag to go with. For instance, my Nicole Richey perfume set came with a carrying bag. A good set that people suggest is the one from Sephora because they include a coupon to get the full-size perfume or cologne that is included in the set of minis of your choice.

Gift Cards: If you have a hard time choosing what you want to get someone, gift cards are a way to go! In my gift advice, I say pay attention to where your loved ones shop or ask where they like to go. If you can’t get an answer, you can get them a Visa gift card so they can spend it anywhere. Another good idea is if the person loves to play games on their devices or game systems, you can get them either a Google Play card, an ITunes card, or even the systems’ cards to use in their stores such as the PSN card in case if they want to get a classic game or pay for their membership at the end of the month.

Food Sets: Finally, there are times when we want to give a person a little something extra especially in their stocking and that is either something sweet like candy or a box of cocoa packets. Heck, my mom gave me a can of blueberry tea bags one year as her stocking stuffer gift because I love blueberries especially as a tea. Not only that, if you have a party to go to or your friend loves savory foods, Hickory Farms always, always, ALWAYS have stands every year! If you have not tried Hickory Farms, I suggest trying their turkey summer sausage. Anyways, this place is a good idea for any party platter or as a gift even the day after Christmas has a good sale with them which is buy one get one 50% off and that includes their food sets that come with pretty good mustard spreads to tell you the truth.

Etsy: Finally! Finally! If Didn’t mention this earlier, Etsy is also a good place for gifts! This has a lot of craft items made by people, think of it a craft version of EBay. Not only that, this is where most of the people I meet at Artists Alley sell here as well such as Black Flame Creations, Aunt Matilda’s, and a bunch more. You can find a lot of great jewelry, some people even sell kitchen items, even candles if you can’t walk into a Yankee Candle. Plus, a lot of stuff is really well priced and they do ship as soon as possible even in time for holiday time! For instance, I got Vivi a wolf necklace for her since I was her Secret Santa last year and I did remember how she loved wolves and found it when looking for steam punk jewelry and it did arrive on time. So, I would say look around Etsy and also sign up for their newsletters because they will give you some items as ideas and some of the stuff does get discounted depending on the seller.

That is it for this post! Hoping you got some inspiration from this post! Christmas is my fave time of year not only just for gifts and sales but also Holiday Matsuri and the Doctor Who special that comes around every year. So, good luck on your gift hunt! What is next? A new cosmetic controversy that may want you to think carefully of swatching a tester on yourself! Until next time!

Favorites: March and April 2017!

Hello Shiquers and welcome back to Nerdy Shique Universe! It is that time again and that is my Favorites for March and April! Last time, I felt like I didn’t feel like I had that many favorites and I had to type that list into Word Press due to having no computer access until around the first two weeks of March. Well, mid-March actually! I learned my lesson, never go online for free versions of Windows products. What do I have? Let’s see!

Fave Cosplay Moment: People Recognizing Me as Link! As you know, we did press for our fourth year at Omni Expo and this year I finally got to have a new cosplay! Yay! I used some of my work experience money to gather parts and that was mostly to finish Pokemon Ranger Link from Legend of Zelda. This cosplay was in the planning stages back when I first did Pokemon Ranger Rusty, which you can see in my video interview with Eric Stuart, and after graduating I didn’t have the funds after 2015 and knew I had to put it off until I get the funds. I did get Silveon which we dubbed the name “Silvy” for this. I was glad to get the goggles from Black Flame Creations, the hat from Amazon, I found the gloves and did have a ong wig to tuck into my shirt, and finally my overshirt with the patches. What was most impressive about my cosplay besides wearing elf ears for my first time is the Eageslash that Gondras made into the Master Sword and Shield. Even the judges were impressed during pre-judging with all the Pokemon and Zelda elements and one of them did say, “I can see the spirit of Pokemon.” What was awesome was that during Saturday, we went into the food court since we were starving and didn’t eat on the way which is a bad idea and that will change for MegaCon ::does Side Show Bob groan:: (Don’t get me wrong, I am excited to go to MegaCon after not being there for five years but will explain some stuff in the review after the convention!) and on the way back to the convention, we had to pass by Auntie Ann’s since it was inside the Florida Mall. People noticed who I was and they followed with their gazes and I didn’t know until Gondras noticed and told me and I was happy. Yes, I hardly smile due to having a fixed chip in my front tooth but I was still happy. I think this has been my fave cosplay this year especially with the goggles which I should mention that down below!

Fave Interview: Josh Martin and Chris Rager! This year’s Omni had another double interview and that is with Chris Rager, Hercule Satan, and Josh Martin, Magen Boo. Before the convention, I tend to request who we want to interview and we wanted a double interview with these two and we got it! I had so much fun interviewing these two because not only we went a little close to time but off topic but we enjoyed it! It is like my interview with RJ Heady last year which I also had fun during, which you can also see on YouTube. And yes, I am Link in that video and the one with Paul St. Peter. It was fun!

Best Attempt At MakeUp: Doing Winged Liner for First Time! I did have to look up how to do winged liner since I NEVER did it before. I know I should’ve practiced but due to being busy with preparing for the convention and going through all the computer problems, I didn’t get to do it. I did it blindly as best as I could and even took the tip of do it subtle like since one video I saw as basing their Link was based on a older Link. I had a bit of eyeliner issues with the Wet N Wild liner I used which had the chiseled tip which was hard to work with and the girl who did Cosplay 101 was surprised that I did it for my first time for the cosplay when I commented on one point she made. I may have to practice this since I dibuy the NYX black pencil liner. I know people usually use a gel liner but the pencil linder I used did work out as well.

Fave Cosplay Accessory: Legend of Zelda themed Goggles! I had to mention these on here since it seems to be a liking for most people too. When I started getting into steam punk stuff, I fisited a stand by these guys known as Black Flame Creations over at Anime Festival Orlando. I got their Harley Quin themed goggles which you know me when it comes to Harley. I am talking about animated and comic book version not the movie version. Anyways, they did say they will do custom jobs on their goggles and mentioned Zelda elements they can do and I decided to go with them for my goggles for Link due to how awesome they are! If you haven’t checked these guys out, I highly highly highly recommend them for goggles. I really want to see other stuff and hoping I run into them again. They did tell me and recommend me to Aunt Matilda’s steam punk items too. Still, check out Black Flame at blackflamecreations.com and tell them I sent you! Anyways, I even wore these to Orlando Overdrive (sorry, footage coming soon from that) and people also liked them too. That is why it’s a fave item even with my compass earrings I got from Amazon and the necklace that I got from Etsy.

Fave Phone Case: Rarity phone case! My fave item I found in a convention is a phone case done by someone who made the Kakashi 3DS XL case I used to have but it broke all thanks to it being dropped. I need to get another from her but she did advertise on Omni’s group that she had phone cases and I asked about My Little Pony which you know that I love that series. She did have IPhone 5 cases that fit my SE ever since I got it and I found one of Rarity. At first I wanted Twilight Sparkle since she is my first fave pony along with Pinky Pie being my second while third I would give to Rarity and the girl sold out of Twilight but she did have some of four of the others which included Pinky and Rarity. I almost got Pinky but the Rarity one looked prettier in a way and shinier! I may have to ask for a Twilight in the future and hoping I can ask for another DS case of Twilight too if I can. I am not sure what my funds will be for Mega at the moment but hey I do have a nice phone case!

Fave Eye Shadow: Shooting Star by Surreal MakeUp! I had to keep myself from using this a lot since it so pretty and shiny and I don’t want to go overboard with it either and that is Shooting Star by a brand called Surreal MakeUp. I mentioned them the most in my review on Omni because they were the first makeup brand I have seen at a convention! I normally find cosplay makers, artists, the usual anime vendors, and so much more but not a makeup brand this brand is an indie one. They came from Clearwater and they are all natural and the owner and her husband are very nice. I was debating on either getting one of her lip items but when she mentioned Shooting Star that was when it became a winner of my wallet! It is a beautiful shimmery shade and it will look amazing! On that Sunday, I wore my Midnight Blue eye shadow all over my lid and Shooting Star in my crease. I have to warn you guys, this is a pigment and it is stupidly pigmented! As in, you may have to dip your brush once and tap a bit and then dab! She will be at DragCOn and other places if you pay attention to her website: http://www.surrealmakeup.com and I have been mentioning in some comments on YouTubers’ videos that are going to check her out. And also, what’s cool about her brand is that if you don’t know what to get but still want to try her stuff, she offers sample pods which you put the pods into your cart and then look through the site and when checking out you write down what you want to sample. It’s worth a try at least. You rarely get that from most brands. So, I will be giving Surreal MakeUp the Star Pawprint of Approval!

Favorite Primer: L’Oreal Magic Perfecting Face Base! ::hears record screech and people gasping:: What!? Can’t a girl try something new? Well, the story is that I can’t use the Nivea Post Shave Balm ever again. ::tosses it out the window:: Because my skin became irritated! I know I raved about it last year all thanks to Nikki Tutorials raving about it and makeup artists used it but what I didn’t know is that this thing sinks into pores and can clog them since the skin does absorb this product after you shave…well when you are a man shaving. I did feel it tingle after I shaved my chin. So, I had to stop using it and did learn the hard way too that the Nivea is not a sensitive skin friend either! I know, how ironic? All thanks to a video from Jeffree Starr, he did a video where he did a half and half test of two face primers and one is expensive as all high heavens and the other drugstore which is my fave place of all for makeup and he tested the L’Oreal Magic Perfecting Face Base and oh man! I love it! I have to thank Jeffree for this because when he mentioned that this is meant for all skin types I knew I had to find it and glad that it is still existing. It may be a tiny pot of primer but usually you don’t need that much to begin with and this did last me a month and a half! My skin did calm down and I did feel a slight tingle since my skin is not used to something new but it did calm down as I used it and it felt so good whenever I applied the primer and my concealer did go on smoothly along with my foundation and all my makeup stayed on pretty well. I will be getting this for now on! Goodbye Nivea!

Fave Mascara: Maybelline Angel Push Up! I never thought I would try a falsies mascara until I tried Maybelline’s Falsies Angel Push Up! I am glad that this mascara give me the same affect as a pair of false lashes when I don’t wear them. What is the point of false lashes when they can cause problems. Read my Cosmetic Controversy post on those. Anyways, I find the tube interesting looking since it almost reminds me of a pushup pop but with a mascara tube! I did like how my lashes felt with this one and willing to keep trying other mascaras to see how they feel.

Fave New YouTube Channel: Vivid Barnicle! So, lately I have been watching Wheeaboo story videos since Wheeaboos are a bane of our existence. I do admit I did have a bit of a Wheeaboo side in my earlier days of getting into anime but it did die down since I got into other things like Doctor Who and My Little Pony and much more. I stumbled upon this one girl known as Vivid Barnicle and she reads a lot of stories that are horror like where people had many experiences with Wheeaboos. For anyone who doesn’t know what a Wheeaboo is they are basically a person who is overly obsessed with anime and Japan and bases Japanese culture on what they see in anime such as believing that there are still samurais like Rurouni Kenshin walking around when they haven’t exist in many decades. Also, I did take Japanese courses and it is not as easy as many would think. Anyways, some of my fave stories include a girl who tried dying her skin in a bathtub with sharpies and alcohol for her Homestuck cosplay and one that was really recent where a girl got attacked by one Wheeaboo that attended her college and caught her stealing stuff including her Yuri On Ice costume she made. It is amazing how much people become very obsessed with anime stuff. So glad I grew up!

Best Series Come Back: Mystery Science Theater 3000! Yes! It’s back! For those of you who are nerds and haven’t grow up as much as I did with this series, MST3K has come back and in full force on NetFlix and so many people are happy including us, as in me, GOndras, and Nerdy Shirts! For those of you who are new to knowing about this, it is a show where a guy and his two robots riff on cheesy sci-fi and horror movies sent by their worst enemy! It is hilarious and some of the jokes are funny as each movie goes on. Even Movie Bob was happy to see it back that he was in tears at first and then laughing so much with the first episode. What made us happy was Patton Oswald is a character on this which fits with him and it feels like he takes his pony character from My Little Pony and turned it into Max on this. It was even awesome that Felicia Day being the new Forrester in this one. Yes, we have to drop by her table at Mega for a “hi!” Plus, the theme song is always catchy!

Well, that is about it for this bi-montly favorites! Make sure you follow us on Twitter and Facebook for the latest updates including when we put up the Orlando Overdrive footage! I really need to get that from Gondras. What is next? Maybe another book review or maybe last minute convention info for MegaCon and still waiting on news from anyone on email interviews. So sit tight!

Ten Ungoth Confessions!

Hello Shiquers and welcome back to Nerdy Shique Universe! I felt like doing something a little different and thought it would be fun and that is my Ten Ungoth Confessions! I am not that much of a goth but trying to explore it a bit more, heck even when I was in Daytona a few years back a girl did ask me if I was a goth due to my taking a class on vampires, zombies, and mummies as the subject and knowing my Halloween history when she was on team for trivia. I am somewhat goth and some people would have a little bit inside of them but here is my confession list!

1. I consider myself more into steam punk! What do I mean by this? Well, even though it is considered as an excuse for goths to wear brown but I do love the using the common objects as jewelry pieces the most. Mostly I do love gears, compasses, and watches on necklaces and earrings. I am not sure about scissors though but these three items are what I like in jewelry. Plus, I do love the goggles and do have my Harley Quin and Legend of Zelda themed goggles from Black Flame Creations, the fingerless gloves, heck I even have my own top hat. Even me, Vivi, and Stellarnan were talking about doing gender bend FFVII characters and I wanted to be Cid at first since his clothing is considered more steam punkish and I would have fun designing his clothes despite him cussing like a sailor. So yes, I consider myself more steam punk than full on goth!
2. I do not like cloves period! Yes, I can’t stand cloves as in eating them, which you can, the smell of them, and of course the most popular thing among goths is to smoke them as cigarettes. I remembered going to a friend’s concert in the downtown club area where you have to take stairs to get to the club since it was so small! No wonder it was more of a lounge but you were able to smoke and this one girl was sitting right next to me and I smelled something weird and noticed the cigarette she was smoking. I asked her about it and she said it was cloves and I did feel a headache coming on due to that and this was around the time my vision was fizzling out and my senses were enhancing to compensate for it and I told Gondras that I was getting a headache and need fresh air due to the clove smoke. It worked and when we got back she was no longer at our table. Heck, even Mama Gondras gave me a solid perfume from Lush a while back that had cloves as an ingredient and you could smell it prominently and it was horrible! I tossed it since I couldn’t stand it! In case if you are wondering, no I don’t smoke because I am asthmatic even if it’s mostly dormant but I find it gross!
3. I prefer my coffee sweet! I know a lot of goths do love their coffee and tea, I do drink tea on some occasions but mostly I am a coffee drinker especially when it comes to iced coffee which I do like to make on my own. I do like going to Dunkin Doughnuts and McDonald’s time to time but there are times when my order does go wrong or they don’t put enough flavoring. That is why I prefer my coffee to be sweet especially in the cream flavor! My favorite flavors in cream are hazelnut, salted caramel, and if I am in the mood, French vanilla! I did try the fudge brownie one and even had a double squirt because there are times where Dunkin doesn’t put enough.
4. My music taste varies! My music taste is very eclectic especially when I listen to some stuff on YouTube or I Heart Radio. I would listen to the Coheed and Cambria radio one day or listen to Mandy Moore the next. To me, you can’t always stick to one music genre, even if you have those goth elitists saying you’re not goth because of this. I will confess I did try listening to Sisters of Mercy (Vivi, don’t kill me for saying this!) but I found them kind of boring. I think I went to listen to THer For Tomorrow or something. Some of my all time fave bands in case you guys are wondering include New Found Glory, Sevendust, Soul Switch, and Traverser.
5. I love to watch talk shows! My next confession is that I do like watching talk shows on tv especially The Talk! I like how the women on that show put their thoughts on the news stories and I do like to talk about it on their Facebook page because I kind of feel like I can think about things that take place in my life or around me. I also admit I do watch Dr. Phil too because some of the stuff he has on there is interesting and I do watch Ellen time to time but on rare occasions if I feel like it.
6. I am a major lover of sweets! One of my major weaknesses is sweets! Even though my sweet tooth has been dubbing down due to a molar being chipped, I don’t know how that happened, also my teeth became extra sensitive due to some Artisan nuts that Mama Gondras sent me as a Valentine’s gift which was a really bad idea especially when I finished both cans within a week and a half of getting them, I think the pecans were the quickest since that took me two days. Anyways, I am mostly into chocolate and it is a major addiction. My fave kind of chocolate is Ghiradelli and now Cadbury has been carried in the U. S. and I enjoyed the English toffee squares that they made. Gondras did make it up to me since I asked him to get me a bag of Cadbury Royal Darks with mint for Valentine’s due to how that was more reasonable for a guy to get me. I also have been addicted to Hershey’s lately since I have the kisses and the nuggets in my big container lately.
7. When it comes to cats, I prefer rag dolls, calicos, and tabbies! Normally goths are expected to have black cats but when it comes to my love for cats, I do love black cats but I prefer the rag dolls, calicos, and tabbies because they have really pretty patterns and color variations such as the silver tabby or the rag dolls that have the looks of Siamese cats. The cat that me and Gondras consider as our cat is a tabby named Tony and he was a stray that ran around the apartment he used to live at with another little stray kitten. When Gondras and Mama Gondras moved out, they did take Tony and another tabby named Tiger but Tiger was uncomfortable with the new place and took him back to the old complex. Tony does have a major love for me the most because when I stayed after the Soul Switch concert last year and when he was in the media room to separate him from Tiger, he loved purring and nuzzling against me and when I visit or stay the night he does curl up against me, especially when I sleep over. He even gives me the look of “Why did you stop petting?” when I stop petting him. Too cute!
8. Speaking of cute, I do love cute things like a lot of girls! Yes, I got to mention this because like a lot of other girls, I do love my cute things! It doesn’t hurt admitting it even if you’re goth! I love Hello Kitty, Keroppi, Kuromi, heck I eve have a Harley Quin themed Kuromi plush I got made, I even have Happy the cat from Fiary Tail!
9. A good majority of my makeup is mostly neutral, smoky, and a few colorful items! Normally goths are expected to wear nothing but black lipstick but to tell you the truth, I only have one tube of black lipstick and trying to get around to getting more even getting another tube of the Hot Topic one at one point since that one broke on me. The rest of my makeup mostly contains neutral eye shadows, smoky pallets, and a few colorful ones like the NYX Primal collection, the Prismatic shadows by them as well, and of course the Coastal Sense Revealed 3 and the Unicorns Unite pallet by MakeUp Revolution. I do have some bold colors in my collection when it comes to lips like Ion by Kat Von D, Nightly Ritual and Royal by MAC, and a few others from KleanColor.
10. Even though my wardrobe contains a lot of black shirts, I do tend to wear a lot of nerd related shirts! Final confession is that my wardrobe does have a lot of black tees but a good majority of them are nerd related. A lot of companies print on black shirts since it does look better but I do have a few shirts in other colors from some of these companies except a good portion are on black. Some of my shirts include Avengers, Guardians of the Galaxy, Doctor Who, and some band shirts which a majority happens to be from the band Traverser.
Well that is it for this list of confessions! It was kind of hard bu I did have fun doing it. If anyone says that you’re not goth if you are wearing a shirt with the Avengers logo and still enjoy a up of coffee, just ignore it! Even Toxic Tears did say there is no wrong way of being goth unless that was someone else. Anyways, next time I should have my Top Ten songs of April!

Cosplay: Tips to Make a Holiday Themed Cosplay!

Hello Shiquers and welcome back to Nerdy Shique Universe! Now that we stuffed ourselves silly with turkey and stuffing and so much more, we now have the Holiday Season to think about as in Christmas! Yes, Christmas does pop up early everywhere nowadays when it comes to decorating, gifts with Black Friday and Cyber Monday (I am so glad I stayed home and shopped online) but there is one thing people don’t include and that is cosplay!

If you guys have been keeping track with this blog you know we have press for a second year at Holiday Matsuri which is Orlando’s Christmas themed anime convention that is held in December. Not only we got to interview Josh Seth and Todd Habercorn last year, we did get to see a lot of holiday themed cosplay and did bring it all into our first Cosplay Gallery which I will link down below in case if you missed it during our coverage postings. I thought it would be fun to give you all tips in case you need something to wear if you were to go to this convention!

Tip 1: Glitter! Glitter! Glitter Everywhere! If you are doing anything holiday related, there is one thing that makes it fun and that is glitter! If you are going as one of the Sugar Rush characters from Wreck It Ralph like Princess Vanellopi or Tafetta then glitter is the thing to go with! You can get a lot of sparkling highlighters especially the holiday themed ones from Colour Pop and Mac for examples to give you a sparkly makeup look. There is also glitter eyeliner, glittery polish to give your characters a sparkly nail, which I am planning to do with my Itachi cosplay, and of course you can use craft glitter to create your own sparkling outfit. Whatever you do, don’t get that stuff all over your eyelids and another warning it will get everywhere! Even on your pets!

Tip 2: Tinsel Is Another Decoration! Another thing to consider to add on the holiday flare is using tinsel! As in, the stuff you tend to wrap around your trees in. Unless they are known as garlands but these tinsel wrap arounds would make it look like you went crazy with wrapping yourself as an anime character. Would be funny if a Tobi cosplayer from Naruto would have it or any other silly character but it is easy to find at any craft store or holiday store since some cities have it.

Tip 3: Wrap Props as Presents! We’ve seen this around before and I almost thought about doing it for my Soul Eater cosplay but due to a car accident the axe has to be rebuilt and there is always next year! Anyways, you can make your props to have Christmas bows or make them look like you are carrying presents, one good example to do is Snake from Metal Gear with a huge present wrapped box to look like you’re hiding as present. We did see it with some guys dressed as Elf on a Shelf last year and carried a present, which not sure if we got that as a pic.

Tip 4: Lights and Light Rigs Are Your Friends! Last year, I was a contestant during the Cosplay Runway contest which people wearing holiday themed costumes get to compete and saw people wearing tree-like costumes with lights and this brings me to the idea of using Christmas lights as decoration. We tend to find creative ways of using LED lights and do wire them to light up and giving your cosplay that light touch would make it even more fun. Heck, even seen a Cat Woman with a line of lights as her whip and a pair doing a Spawn cosplay where they had lights on one of them. Was it lights? Still, you can be creative with LED lights and as Christmas ones!

Tip 5: Adding Santa Hats, Reindeer Antler Headbands, and Anything Else Can Add A Holiday Touch! If you don’t want to go all the way with lights, tinsel, and glitter, there is always finding the simple headband with reindeer antlers or a Santa hat can be all you can work with. Plus, most of us cosplayers are on a budget when it comes to going to conventions and of course you can find a Dollar Tree if you are in the mood of a last minute Santa hat. Plus, you can customize them to your costume to match! Since I mentioned I will be Itachi this year due to how it froze during the convention in Orlando (I am not kidding! My teeth were chattering while I was Lucy on Night One!) I did pin a bell to show the Akatsuki thing since their hats in the anime and manaa have that signature bell. Speaking of Santa…

Tip 6: Make a Customized Santa Outfit! I had to mention this since we seen a few Bayoneta characters taking the suntan suit to their own liking. We tend to see a lot of Santa hats but cosplayers can get a little creative by making Santa outfits for whoever they cosplay as. If I would, I would’ve had Lucy as a Christmas Elf and still carry my keys! Anyways, there are also Lolita dresses that take on the Christmas theme and cosplayers can use that as a nice base to use for whatever they want to cosplay as and add the Santa hat added to their character. Hoping we see some customized Santa costumes to go with whatever character that we may take pictures of for this year’s Cosplay Gallery.

Tip 7: Christmas Jewelry Would Add Some Pop! There is one thing that can be included with a lot of cosplay even if it requires earrings and that is using Christmas themed ones like ornaments, Santa hats, or even snowflakes! Jewelry with these elements would give you that holiday flare if you don’t want to go all out.

Tip 8: Hand Out Candy Canes! I seen this with a few people, even a Spawn cosplayer I met did this and that is giving out candy canes or any other candy that would have a holiday spin! A lot of convention goers do bring their kids and there are panels when things do get given out, the ye old candy cane for the holiday plus would put a lot of people in a really good spirit and it does feel good to give thme out. If you can’t find room to carry them like in a huge santa sack, you can find the mini candy canes to attach to any business cards if you are running a booth or in Artist’s Alley!

Well, that is about it for this post! Hope these tips will help you and I will be linking you guys to our Cosplay Gallery from last year’s Matsuri where we did catch some of these holiday themed costumes in the mix of many more! Also, don’t forget to hit Amazon and Barnes & Noble when Cyber Monday rolls around to get my book! The Blind Perspective: Convention Stories From the Dark is still therefrom the Dark>find! Please pick it up!

What is next? I will be doing a last minute Matsuri info post in case if you guys have any questions unanswered! Of course December coming around would not be complete with my holiday haul, might do a video for that, all the coverage from Holiday Matsuri 2016, my Favorites of November and December, and the Bests and Worsts of 2016! I think people want to read that. So stay tuned for all that in December!

Holiday Matsuri 2015 Cosplay Gallery Post

Favorites: July and August 2016!

Hello Shiquers and welcome back to Nerdy Shique Universe! It’s time for my bi-monthly favorites! Man, this year is still going by fast and before I know it it will be Holiday Matsuri! Speaking of which, I better do a Convention Spotlight on that late September or early October. Anyways, I have a few non-faves first!

Non-Faves:

The Jeffrey Star and Kat Von D Drama: Yes, I had to mention this because it seems to be dying down but at the same time some people do have problems with Mr. Star. Anyways, if anyone has not read the only other uncategorized post talking about my thoughts on this controversy between Kat and Jeffrey, well to make a long story short, Kat Von D announced in July that she was cutting all ties from Jeffrey because of his drug use, bullying, and the major elephant in all this was him stealing artwork. Jeffrey did respond that he only does medical marijuana for anxiety and has settled what had happened with the artist that was said who he stole from which was BJ Bets, sorry I haven’t mentioned the artist, and he didn’t steal the work but went with someone else due to how much Bets was charging him when his savings was used on his first three liquid lipsticks. I felt that this should’ve been dealt with privately instead of publicly since things have been a major firestorm. I seen a lot of videos of people taking Kat’s side while others like me are willing to support both instead of one over the other because it is just makeup! I did see the reviews that Jeffrey has put up about different brands and he is pretty honest in what he doesn’t like and what he does like and sometimes can be interpreted by other people in different ways, so I would say if you support either one go ahead but to me it is still just makeup and I am still subscribed to both of them on YouTube and have bought one item by Kat but nothing yet by Jeffrey, that will change in the future.

Cancelling Ipsy and BoxyCharm: I know I am sad about this and have been this past month and that is back in July I had to cancel Ipsy and BoxyCharm. It is not the same with mail delivery this month because it was something I looked forward to with all the sneak peeks, Glam Room openings, and videos that people got these things. Even with Ipsy in how people got different items than I did. I am still trying to go for the PR BoxyCharm box because at least I can still can get that and try to do more videos for the channel since I haven’t been to a convention since March of this year. And if you’re wondering, I haven’t watched any unboxxings because I don’t want to depress myself even more knowing that I had to let these two go for now. Hoping in the future I can get back to subscribing to these two boxes due to how they let me explore more brands especially in the higherend department.

Faves:

T-Shirt Find: Harley Quin Hello Kitty! I have tons of t-shirts and have been keeping myself under control with my shirt buying, heck I even kept myself from Hot Topic back in Daytona but the one I loved when I found it was the Harley Quin themed Hello Kitty shirt I found at Game Stop! I found it Wednesday when going there with Gondras and he sees it in the window and glad to find it in an XL for shrinkage problems or sizing problems since I have tried on a Harley shirt in the past at Hot Topic in my sizing and I couldn’t get past my elbows! I know that is horrible but one thing I don’t like about most girl shirts in Hot Topic is they don’t fit bigger women like me since it feels like you have to be tiny to fit those sizes. Which is impossible! That is why I went with the X-Large and it did fit very well the next day! Not only that, good thing was it was cheaper than a shirt at Hot Topic which this one was $15 and the ones at HT are going up in price which I remembered my last Doctor Who one was $22. If you find any good shirts you want, I suggest Game Stop if you’re big into video games as well as cartoons and anime!

New Brand of Lip Products: KleanColor Cosmetics! I know you are wondering, “What!?” Well, the thing is lately I have been liking this one brand of makeup that is said to be from Asia from what I heard and it’s known as KleanColor and heard of them through It’s Judy’s Life where she had a hard time getting the Kiley Genner lip kits and they were selling them very expensive on Amazon which I don’t get, even some products on EBay in the beauty department are the same way, and found KleanColor and decided to try them out and got a six pack of lipsticks in pinks, reds, and purples for around $7 and that wasn’t bad. Heck, I have gotten a set of twelve bold ones when I done my pastel goth look, which also included a yellow and will give that to Vivi in the future, and recently got the entire set of the Mark of Love lipsticks. People have made mixed reviews online saying that they aren’t as pigmented, they come off to easily and so on but at the end of the day you do take your makeup off and a lot of lip products do come off easily when you eat or drink something which I have no complaints. Plus, the pigmentation with me is not that bad even though I have to make a lot of swipes but it is okay, I tend to do that anyway with most lipsticks in stick and liquid form, lip glosses, and my lip balms to get that feel that they are there! And they also smell nice, the first set and the second set smelled fruity while the Mark of Love set smelled like vanilla! I wanted to get a pastel set but that went up in price, I may get that another time if the price goes lower. You can get KleanColor on Amazon and they do have a website.

Hair Product: PYT Argon Oil! In my last BoxyCharm I got the PYT argon oil and man it was very good! I did have some instances where I got more than the actual amount I supposed to use but it did still do the same thing by keeping my hair soft and not so damaged. Heck, it kept it damage free when I straightened it on my birthday. I did finish it and to me the price of $39 is not worth it to re-purchase it despite how good it was. I can get the Marc Anthony Argon Oil items and the Suave Oil Infused with Argon Oil for much less than that and they work as well!

Shapoo and Conditioner: Suave Oil Infused with Coconut Oil! Had to mentiuon these two since I’ve been using them lately and that is the Suave Professionals shmpoo and conditioner with the coconut oil in it. I have used the Marc Anthony Macadamia Oil and the Argon version of the Suave Professional line and love them! These oils ar very good for the hair and have heard coconut oil is best for hair growth which I am seeing a tiny bit of that because Gondras did ask me to grow my hair out and working on it.

Dry Shampoo: Got 2 B Rockin’ Dry Shampoo! I know it’s a surprise to hear this from me when there are so many on the market with the dry shampoo collection but the one I prefer the most is the one by Got 2 B! This one doesn’t cost an arm and a leg and does keep my hair clean until my next hair washing but the only problem is the pressure that it gives off in the spray which is very powerful. I prefer this one the most over Not Your Mother’s since I tried that one and it made my hair feel weird while Got 2 B feels like you have that clean without the weirdness!

Pomade: Got 2 B Hair Pomade! Yes, another Got 2 B product and have been using it for a while and that is their hair pomade! I haven’t thought about using hair pomades until last year for job interviews and I used the one by Crew and that was pricey and didn’t enjoy the smell it gave off which was like I was wearing one of my dad’s colognes in my hair and weighed my hair down. I know Crew’s pomade is claimed to be the best but to me Got 2 B is better because it is not as heavy and doesn’t weigh the hair down because it feels more like a cream than a hard salve. Plus, it smells amazing and doesn’t cost as much, it is around $5 at Walgreens! Which I may need to restock at some point since I am at the bottom.

Eye Shadow Pallets: Swamp Queen by Tart and Gwen Stefani by Urban Decay! I have two favorite eye shadow pallets or shall I say makeup pallets! First is the Tart collab with Grav3yard Girl pallet which is the Swamp Queen pallet! I am so proud of Bunny since she has been a major fave of mine on YouTube since I watched one of her haul videos when I started getting into makeup and this pallet is a face and eye pallet where you have nine shadows and a bronzer, highlighter, and blush all in one! This is very travel friendly since you have everything in this thing and my fave shade has to be Sippy Sippy since that is a shimmery brown shade. Some people say there is a lot of fall out with the glitter but I make it work! And the other pallet is the Gwen Stefani pallet with Urban Decay! I didn’t put this on Christmas list since I already had shadow pallets I was wanting, especially the Full Exposure pallet from Smashbox for the longest time! So, I found out that Urban Decay discounted the Gwen pallet this past summer and got it! This pallet is based on names from No Doubt and her like Pop, Baby, Steady, and so on. They are as pigmented as a lot of the shadows by Urban Decay and glad to have this! I do love how this came with two blue shades which is fun to use!

Powder: Ofra Oil Control! I never thought I would mention a powder and that is the Oil Control setting powder by Ofra Cosmetics! I know I am not oily but I do have some oily feeling around the t-zone but I do use this powder to set my under eye concealer when I start using my powder in the end. This is a translucent powder and it feels like most powders I have used and it does feel good when you apply it! I got this in BoxyCharm as well and unlike the banana powder from February this is a full size product! I have been using this for a while and loving it!

Rediscovery: NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream in Progue! I had to put in a re-discovered product and that is my NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream in Progue! I used this in my Back to College Makeup video and started using it again but ran out of it! I think I used it three times and it got buried in my lip drawer! It is a very pretty berry color and it goes on very smoothly. People did have problems that this product accentuates their lip lines but with me it looks very natural! Even my mom likes these lip creams and I have gotten her this one and Milan. I need to re-stock on this and Transylvania since these two are my fave colors in the entire line!

Confession: My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic! Yes, I admit it! I like My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic! I started watching it lately and loving it! I am taking a bit of break from it since some of the cuteness can be overwhelming especially the song! My fave two ponies of the main cast are Twilight Sparkle because I love reading as much as she does and I can be uptight with deadlines, which Gondras can see that a lot of me, and the other one is Pinky Pie because she is hilarious! She even becomes funnier when she snaps in some episodes but she is very entertaining in the series, especially when she had to babysit two baby ponies that were newborns from the bakery owners.

Show: Fuller House! This was something I finally got around to watching when I was sick and that is Fuller House! This pretty much Full House but it is the sequel where it takes place twenty plus years later and DJ Tanner or Fuller had three boys and she is living at the old Tanner home with Stephanie, Kimmie, and her daughter, Ramona. It is as entertaining as the original and you get to see the normal situations of divorce, ex-boyfriends, new love, and taking care of kids under one roof! I am hoping NetFlix makes another season because I want to see more of this and how DJ and crew keep going in the house! Also, can’t help with the appearances by Jesse, Danny, and Joey!

Well, that is it for these favorites! What is next? Still waiting on doing the Convention Spotlight but you can follow us on Twitter @ Nerdy Shique and check out the YouTube channel while you’re at it!
