The Convention Comet: Omni Fandom Expo 2020 in Kissimmee, FL

Hello to all of my beautiful nerds and welcome back from traveling the vast universe! It’s time for the first convention of the year!

Omni Fandom Expo 2020
Dates: March 20-22, 2020
Location: Days by Celebration, Kissimmee, FL

Another year has started and you know what that means? Time for another convention season to start and our season starts with Omni Fandom Expo. As you all know we’ve been doing press for these guys since their first year in 2014 and glad to get another!

Location: Change of location this year and it will be at the Days by Wyndham Celebration located in Kissimmee. This hotel is located near Disney and of course a few miles away from Universal if you want to check out the main attractions. The features include free parking, express check out, free breakfast, a work out room, hot tub, and pool and even a restaurant known as Savannah Bar & Grill. The room rate here is $129 a night and I would say reserve as soon as possible because this discount ends on February 27th!

Guests: This year’s guests include Grey Delisle Griffin who is well known for her roles as Mandy from the Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy, Azula from Avatar: The Last Air Bender, and of course can’t forget Vicky from the Fairly Odd Parents! Returning to Orlando after years of not coming back is Neil Kaplan which makes me happy since it’s been years. You can hear him as Lord Zarkon in Voltron: Legendary Defender! And of course, returning again this year is Mr. Xemnes himself Paul St. Peter! And of course we can’t forget Speak Easy Sirens who has been a Burlesque troop that always been performing every year and bringing on Theoretical Rejects as another troop for this year’s event. And finally, one group that will be doing a performance this year is Shinobi School which is a performance troop from Tampa that specializes in park or, circus acrobatics, and so much more.

Events: One event I’m excited for is Miyazaki Madness which will be performed by Shinobi School and will be taking place that Saturday at noon during the convention. It will take our most beloved Miyazaki characters and have them do many feats and dance moves. If you want the more eighteen plus stuff, Speak Easy Sirens and Theoretical Rejects have Lore Olympus and NetFlix & Chill during that weekend. Please leave your kids at home since these two are eighteen and up only!

That is about it on this year’s event! Can’t wait to see you guys there! Hoping they add more guests in the meantime since we haven’t interviewed Grey yet and glad to see Neil back in Orlando since his last con was around 2009 I believe? So can’t wait to see what he has in store if we get that chance to interview him. And with Paul, we all know his events and can’t wait and see if Pirate Curses makes a return and if you want to learn voice acting I highly recommend his voice acting class panels. We will be buzzing around the convention floor this year and of course having new teammates! Let’s meet them shall we?

Damion Alexander Faelan and Michael Roach: Welcome our new teammates who will be joining us to do photography during the event. If you’re cosplaying, there will be photoshoots being held by these two and Damion does have his own photography business known as Shadow Rayne Photography which we will include a link down below.

And of course, we do have a new camera coming with us for floor interviews so a lot of new things will be with us so stay tuned. And of course, don’t forget our podcast Nerdy Shique Transmissions where I will also be talking about this convention in each episode leading up to the convention itself! Anyone on Breaker? I forgot that you can also listen to it on there too!

What is next? Our start of the RangerStop Panel videos since Damion was also helping us in getting those put together since they were recorded in separate parts. First of the panels is the Magical Source! Mystic Force! Panel! Stay tuned!

Interviews: Jennifer Hale Interview from Holiday Matsuri 2018!

Hello to all of my beautiful nerds and welcome back from traveling the vast universe! I am back and this time it’s with another interview!

Jennifer Hale Interview from Holiday Matsuri 2018!

Now it’s time for the other interview! We finally got to interview Jennifer Hale at Holiday Matsuri since we wanted to do it before. We wanted to do it during MegaCon Orlando 2017 except they said no to it. As you know our logo you see over on our Twitter and YouTube was inspired by the Mass Effect games and not only that Jennifer has voiced Sam on the series Totally Spies which you can still watch the Reunion video from MegaCon 2017 on our channel as well. I was super excited about this even if my cane did break during the con and getting to sit down with her felt like you were sitting down with a great friend not just interviewing a great voice actress. If you haven’t seen the second Wreck It Ralph movie, I would suggest it and try to catch anything else she has been in.

Well, that is it for our interviews from Holiday Matsuri. Again sorry about Zach Callison since we didn’t get to have that interview but will see if we can catch him at another con we will do press at or probably over Skype.

What is next? Well, we are having something new starting on the channel so stay tuned for that! Definitely have February stuff coming up so stay tuned!

Bests & Worsts of 2018!

Hello to all of my beautiful nerds traveling the vast universe! It is time for the final post of 2018!

Bests & Worsts of 2018!

We are at that time again my friends and that is the bests and worsts moments, beauty items, movies, and so on of 2018! This year was a life changing year for me so let’s start with that!

New Job & New Home in a New Location! Well, last year I said 2018 was going to be my year of getting a job and hoping to move out and guess what? I just did that in November! I did get interviewed for the Adaptive Tech Instructor in Daytona and I got it! I have been a student at the Rehab Center I’m teaching at and glad that I got to move up and doing it in something I wanted to teach and that is Adaptive Tech which I use on a daily basis especially with writing Nerdy Shique Universe by using JAWS. I knew I had to also move out for this job because I can’t drive and got my own place and loving it! Me and Gondras are sharing it so he will be moving in with me so we can be a full on couple, well engaged couple here together. We will be commuting back to Orlando for conventions since we do have Omni Fandom Expo in March and also Ranger Stop if we get another press badge since we did enjoy that one too. There are conventions here in Daytona too but haven’t heard from them much. I have to get back in contact with them since one is a writing convention and there are some authors on my Net Galley shelf that will be appearing there. How do I like living on my own? Well, the good news is that it made my mental health a lot more easier because it was stressful living in a big city where the job market is still unsure about hiring blind people even in call centers and I did try going for volunteering at the Lighthouse but that didn’t go through as planned for their Adaptive Tech Department. Glad I am working in it and plus I have changed dramatically since I did take a Self-Esteem & Adjusting to Blindness class which helped me understand more and understand myself when it comes to adjusting to being blind. Plus, getting to cook my own food feels a lot better too since I did go through back seat cooking with my parents and it caused some stress too, even when I made potato salad and wanted to follow the recipe but mom wanted me to do it our way. I did get to make her black beans and it felt like home even with the Adobo seasoning for my pork chops. Plus, I get a bigger closet too which made me happy along with smaller furniture than what I had in my old room at my parents’ place. Not only that, transportation is also better here because you have more bus stops to get to and the paratransit is way better, not only that the Lift drivers are very friendly! So yeah, I am at a better place in life, I have a great job teaching, now I can write my book in peace as well since I did re-start it again. I know, this is becoming annoying when I should have finished this year. Well, living on the coast will help me out since my first two books were done while I was a student. Let’s cross our fingers!

Being Certified In JAWS! Next is another great aspect this year and that is being JAWS Certified! I have been using this software since 2010 and figured being certified in this software could help me get into the field of tech more and I was right about that. The test was hard and I had to study a lot of things from the Help Topics to knowing what the commands were, especially when they tested more on the Laptop Keyboard Commands versus Desktop, and so much more. I was glad to pass and now waiting on my certificate so it can be in my office!

Getting a Chrome Book! Speaking of tech, I did get a Chrome Book for myself this past month because I wanted to see about the operating system and since my mom returned hers after having it for a few weeks, I really wanted to see about its built-in screen reader after seeing the ones on display at the NFB National Convention. So far so good it has been working out because of how the commands are like JAWS but with a different modifier key. I have to play around more with it since I am creating a Chrome Book workbook on Excel to help me and any other instructors.

Getting to Go to the NFB National Convention! I finally got to attend the NFB National Convention for its last year in Orlando, which it will be in Vegas next year. It was an amazing opportunity since I went with the Jernigan First Time Scholarship, I tried for National Scholarship but didn’t get it and now holding off on my Grad Certificate at the moment, and got to enjoy the convention. I even volunteered at the Braille Book Fair to get my interaction with younger kids better since I wasn’t doing it in the school system at the time. It was fun and getting to talk with a mom about how she is trying to get her child’s dexterity back after a stroke was even life changing too because it was sad hearing about it but I did suggest some things since Braille does help us out. I did get a new watch from this convention along with a few other items and got to meet the many other chapters in the United States and knowing that we’re not alone in the universe. I am going to try and join the chapter here in Daytona but due to how busy it has gotten unpacking and getting things for the apartment, even working, it will be a little bit before I join since being in the NFB shows that we can self-advocate and do have family and friends to help us. Oh right…let me save that for later!

Bests

Now to start with the bests since there are tons of awesome things going on this year and I have to give it to a lot of people and moments!

Game of the Decade: War Frame! First is Video Game of the Decade and I give it to War Frame! All this year Gondras has been playing this game and it is also up my alley with story since it’s a science fiction story where a metallic virus turns humans into robots known as War Frames and you as the Tenno pilot these robots to travel across the Solar System to take on the threats that want to take over. You also get more War Frames along the way, especially one where it was from a secret event story that dealt with one who had darkness take over. Now the game is where you go to Venus and get to explore the now icy planet to meet robot dwarves and even have hover boards. This game is very pretty and now that we have a new tv in our living room, yes good to say that, it will look even better. For anyone who has a Nintendo Switch, it’s going to be available for the Switch! Now you can play it on PC, PS4 and Xbox! Amazing work!

Movie of the Year: Avengers: Infinity War Part 1! Movie of the year goes to Avengers: Infinity War Part 1! We all know that it has come down to this where we see the Infinity Gauntlet is completed and now the Avengers must come together along with the Guardians of the Galaxy to take on Thanos and his gauntlet. Can’t wait what Part 2 has to offer since we are getting Captain Marvel next since she will be important in that part!
Runner Ups: Black Panther and AquaMan! Can’t forget these two since they have appeared this year. Black Panther was another great movie from this year since we got to see an African-American superhero take center stage for his origin story in this movie. It also became a hit at box offices back in February and schools even took kids to see this movie as a field trip which was even more amazing. While AquaMan, on the other hand, was something DC should have done like with Marvel and start with the origin story movies before diving into the big team up films. I did enjoy Jason Mamoa as AquaMan and we get to see a mix of villains which made it more interesting. Nicole Kidman did a great job as his mom on top of it. Too bad we’re not doing MegaCon next year, interviewing Mr. Mamoa would be pretty sweet! Speaking of interviews!

Interview Opportunity: Apl DeAp from the Black Eyed Peas! Yes, another moment this year was getting to interview a Grammy winning artist and that is Apl DeAp from the Black Eyed Peas and it was during the NFB National Convention. When I first heard he was going to be performing at it, I had to get the interview and what surprised me was that he is visually impaired himself. He has Nystagmus which causes severe near sight and he did tell his story behind it which you can still see here and over on our YouTube Channel’s Interviews Playlist. It felt great to meet him and brought us another musical artist to our channel since we did interview Traverser not long after. If you get to meet Mr. DeAp, just say hi not wave because he did explain it’s hard for him to see it.
Runner Up: Trying Out Skype Interviews with J. Michael Tatum, Brandon McInnis, and Traverser! As you know being at a convention you can get busy as a guest or even as a musical artist your schedule gets packed before a show so that is why we went one step beyond with our interviews this year. We used Skype to interview J. Michael Tatum and Brandon McInnis, since there schedules were full during Holiday Matsuri 2017, and Traverser, since they were returning to the stage after three or so years. It shows how we got over the obstacle of not being able to interview people face to face and hoping to get more in 2019 since I have a list in mind for the year.

Anime: My Hero Academia! Speaking of Tatum! It is the Best Anime Category and this year it goes to My Hero Academia! GOndras did start watching it himself and then shown it to me and man it is one of the best dubs I have seen so far! It is like the movie Sky High but what if it’s an anime and your main character, Izuku, is not born with a Quirk and has one transferred to him by his idol, All Might! I can’t wait for the next season because the last season ended on a pretty good note.
Runner Up: Overlord! I have to hand the Runner Up position to Overlord because it is an anime series that deals with a video game you have never thought to be better than Sword Art Online. Why would I say that? Well, in Overlord, you get to see new worlds being built, characters going through certain adventures that help them get better in fighting, and not only that take over towns like a usual fantasy RPG. Plus, with the main character, Momonga, we not only see him in the game but see his player in the real world thinking about what to do next and how to interact with the party. I would say check this out if you can!

Male Performance in An Anime: Justin Briner in My Hero Academia I decided to include this after watching the anime and I give it to Justin Briner because he gave a stand out performance as Deku in My Hero Academia. He is a new voice to my ears and I have heard him in Team FourStar’s Final Fantasy VII Abridged as Cloud and trust me I was thinking to Cloud watching MHA A. I hope we get to interview him either over Skype or in person at a convention.

Female Performance in an Anime: Monica Rial in Shimonetta! I know, it’s a weird title but when Gondras shown me this one on Funimation Now I never thought it would be hilarious especially with Monica Rial as Ana. I bet how many takes it took for one certain line, if you are of age, watch it!

Best Supporting Role in an Anime: J. Michael Tatum in My Hero Academia! Final anime related thing and that is best supporting role and it goes to J. Michael Tatum when he played Tenya Ida in My Hero Academia.

Makeup Brand of the Year: Cover Girl! I decided to give this year’s Brand of the Year to Cover Girl because this year they made a huge change from being a brand that wasn’t Cruelty Free to one that is now is and Leaping Bunny approved! Brands are trying to get away from animal testing and glad to hear that Cover Girl is the first even close to the end of the year, especially many months after Nars has joined in being sold in China during the beginning of this year. Hoping Cover Girl leaving China and being on this list can be an example to others and saying, “Join us and be Cruelty Free!” Now China is fighting to have better ways of testing at the moment, so more news on the horizon!
Runner Up: Urban Decay! 2018 has been a huge year for Urban Decay since they have released a lot of collections and discontinued a beloved product and that was the Original Naked pallet. Trust me, it was sad for me to hear since I was doing my Urban Decay Look Series on the YouTube Channel. But they have released many pallets this year that have been a success so far and they are the Beached Pallet in the summer, Born to Run, Naked Cherry, and Elements for the holidays. Now they have announced Naked Reloaded which is the Naked pallet but with new packaging and shades. Plus, the Naked Honey, and Naked AF soon to join the series! Will 2019 have all three? We will have to see!

Collection of the Year: Wet N Wild Flights of Fancy! I have to give this award to the Wet N Wild Flights of Fancy Collection because it has been a really good collection that was released during this year. Not only it had new items like a lip scrub and baked blushes but it also had donations from each box set go to the Audubon Society to help with a species of hummingbird that is native to California. A great cause for a great box! Let’s see what WNW brings to 2019!

Set at Electric Daisy Carnival Vegas 2018: Alan Walker! Even though I can’t take a flight to Vegas every year for EDC but this year’s videos shown a lot of great sets but I have to give it to Alan Walker’s set! I like his music the most because it has a science fiction feel to it and of course I did create a makeup look to his song “Ignite.” His newer stuff is pretty good too and I highly recommend. If you can’t make any of the EDC events this year, you can always catch it on YouTube!

Worsts

I do have a few worsts this year since I felt like not that many had happened but I will get to it!

Moment at a Convention: My Cane Breaking! I never had this happen before and that is my cane breaking at a convention. Someone pretty much stepped over and got caught in my cane and caused it to crack. Still makes me mad that people are blind to blind people and well, thinking we’re are like Terezi from Homestuck which we’re not, the cane is real. Hoping this year with cons I don’t experience this again because it’s not fun meeting an annoyed mobility instructor at work, even though it was not my fault because I was using proper cane etiquette and the person just shown up out of nowhere.

Makeup Moment: Being Makeup Shamed! Apparently, this year there has been a bit of makeup shaming taking place, more recent actually and I became a victim of. Seriously people? When did we came down to this? I understanding roasting someone for laughs but doing it with makeup is not cool. I did hear there were Cosplay Shaming Groups but there are groups for makeup and a newer one came up and someone from the What’s Up In Makeup Group did use my pic for it. I don’t get why we feel the need that this should be okay when makeup is a creative outlet for a lot of people, especially me. At least the person got kicked out for it because in the group you are being watched.

The Most Okay Movie: Solo! I had to mention an Okay Movie but not necessarily a Worst Movie either and that goes to Solo. It’s the movie that tells the story about how Han Solo got the Millennium Falcon and we get to use Lando get his butt kicked for it. It was not that bad and it did get bad reviews for it, when you look at it, it was competing against a Marvel movie at the same time. We did enjoy it.

Game: My Hero Academia! I have to mention this one because Gondras was looking forward to this game but it didn’t come out to being the one he was hoping for and it was the My Hero Academia game. It was supposed to play like Ninja Storm where you got to play the different story arcs but the only ones you get the arcs from the Stained arc through rescuing Bakugo! Even though those are nice arcs but Ninja Storm started from the beginning so you could play through them while here it’s the best arcs being played. Not only that, they didn’t use the English cast for this either. The Funimation dub of the show is one of the best dubs they have done and wishing they recorded this with them because they picked a lot of great actors to be in the dub. Sorry My Hero Academia, we prefer the anime.

What’s Up For Us in 2019? Well, another year at Omni Fandom Expo and just in time for new promo material. Even though we have business cards but we need to step it up and we will get it in time for this year’s convention. We aren’t sure about other cons but shooting for another year at Ranger Stop and of course new content for the YouTube Channel including new playlists to come! Also, I just re-subscribed to Boxy Charm and glad to get it back! It will be separate from Ipsy so stay tuned for our new stuff in 2019! Until next time everyone, have a safe and Happy New Year and see you in 2019!

Accessibility In Gaming Part 2: What d Do I Want to See In This?

Hello my beautiful nerds traveling throughout the vast universe! I’m back with a new post and this time it’s a continuation of a past post I’ve done!

Accessibility in Gaming Part 2: What I Want To See in Gaming With This?

Stellarnan gave me this idea since she brought an article about a new controller Microsoft had developed for their XBOX for anyone with hand issues to play one handed. This is a step in the right direction since it has popped up and now Microsoft has been working on a lot of things in the Accessibility Department. I even participated in the NFB’s webinar with Narrator recently and can see improvements. Not only that, don’t forget Seeing AI and Soundscape made for IOS.

  1. ind that should be included1. Nintendo Get More Into Accessibility! As you know, I play a lot of pokemon and it’s not easy playing without any assistance. I did use Seeing A.i. with the Short Text setting to read things on the screen and it was great but it would be tedious holding it up all the time even with a tripod. I did mention this and that Nintendo needs to get into the accessibility game more even though they did start with the contrast adjustment settinngs on the Switch. A little fact, according to the episode I listened to the episode by Assistive Tech Update that Nintendo is behind in accessibility due to Microsoft taking the top sot with Sony right behind because of one setting which I will talk about next. Yes, it is nice that they started with the contrast adjustments but not everyone can see that because not everyone has the same eye condition so that brings me to the next point.

  2. More Screen Reading Support! I menttioned Sony because they only have the Text to Speech engine working on their home screen at the moment. Even Gondras demonstrated this when he first got his Playstation 4 this year and we were disappointed that only went far to work on the home screen area which makes us sad and me even more because I have not gottten my paws on Playstation controllers for a long time, well I did have to navigate through the Rock Band 4 song list to find one song I wan sing and that was last year. Anyways, it would be nice that screen reading software be included or as an app to downloaded. I did mention above that not everyone has the same kind of eye cndition to use contrast adjustments with colors, you need low vision for that while total blindness or low vision to the point of not seeing anything requres screen reading. Reason being is because we ccan follow along with the story better to have it read to us, the tutorial screens read to understand what the button combos are and how not to get killed in something ike Final Fantasy XII or even Kingdom Hearts to name a few. And speaking of Final Fantasy, having the emnu options being read out along with who is up next because it would be hard to see that little arrow icon over each character when it is their turn. Okus, give it he Soundscape treatment by telling where an item is like in Pokemon and what building is ahead and nearby because a character does have to buy their supplies to go on and continue their adventure so more screen reading support and even navigation can help someone with lower vision get through a game more easily.

  3. Braille Support On Braille Displays! I know it seems weird but hear me out! Braille has come a long way and it has improved in the tech dpartment and we are having complete Braille tablets being made! Not kidding! Anyways, Braille Note Takers today have Android tech built into them which not only we have the usual built in apps but also Google Play to get the apps we get on our tablets to be installed se. Oh yeah that will be handy when I start my certificate program. What is also great is that they have Bluetooth and Wireless settings and also a USB cable to plug into a computer to use in order to read. So, having a way of using a Braille Display while playing a game would be awesome to use if the screen reading support is not there or still being worked on. Yes, there may be plug-ins needed but it is easy to add onto a device or just have Bluetooth pair with each system like how it does with IPhones with my Braille Sense Polaris. With this ablity, it can read menus, the subtitle boxes when characters speak so you can feel while pushing X or the A button while hearing the story, and even read the tutorials and any notes from that tutorial. Wishing I had that during the PS2 days while playing the original .hack games since it was a lot of text along with dialogue.

  4. Developers and Gamers Should Talk! As in the disabled community, even blind, and the developers should have discussion about these issues. Trust me I have been emailing Nintendo about the screen reading and it will take forever. WHile game developers, on the other hand, seem to be more open. Steve Saylor, the Glind Gamer on YouTube, even is working on that too from his review of the accessible version of God of War where they added some accessible points to the game. In order to improve on games themselves, developers d listen and hear their fans out well most developers, still it shows that they are open to the subject of making their games not only great for their existing audience but new ones as well and that will help with inclusion of new audiences.

Developers Should Speak to Well Known Acccessibility Companies! This is another big point I want to touch upon besides the one above because it can help expand on making games accessible and that is the developers of the systems, technology, and even games should talk with the developers of Narrator, in order to make it inclusive to the screen reading for XBox, JAWS, and even NVDA, and even the devices I have mentioned above in getting ways of how to make their games and systems work with this kind of technology. Without the having talks with each other, it would make it harder to know what to do or how to do it when it comes to making something more accessible to a new market. As in how to make a title be read out by Narrator or how it will look on a Canute 360 for example, having these discussions will take as far as new games come out and new people w

ant to play. Who knows, maybe we will hear UVSoft thanking Freedom Scientific one day for helping them having a screen reader read out Beyond Good & Evil 2 someday on an E3 stage.

So guys, that is it for this post! I know it was a lot to talk about because I have been using Assistive Tech for eight years now and about to go into it for work and school as my career field it would be awesome that the tech we use could expand into video games since I do not want to give up on finishing any of the games I have been playing and I am also planning to get a Switch due to 2019 will be announcin another generation of Pokemon to be made. I would ove to have my Polaris at my side telling me if my Dragonite wants to learn a new move and I need to remove one to make room for it.

So, what is nextt for Nerdy Shique Universe? Well, I need to talk about an affiliate program I just joined because I have been hearing warnings about companies scamming people over Instagram and wanted to talk about it since I just received my product and they were one of the ones mentioned. So stay tuned for that and follow us on Twitter @ Nerdy Shique for all of the latest updates! Oh right, also gotta do a Faves post! Until next time!

Conventions: Omni Fandom Expo 2018: The Most Inspirational Anime Convention Year!

Hello Shiquers and welcome back to Nerdy Shique Universe! I’m back from Omni Expo 2018 and man I am exhausted but feel inspired! How so? Well, this year was a huge inspirational convention and there were things that took place that were things that made me not feel inspired but an inspiration on its own. I will explain as the review goes on.

Disclaimer: This review is based on thoughts, opinions, and observation of the lead writer of this blog. Please respect her thoughts on this convention and thank you!

Man! This year was a huge year for Omni Expo and let’s see let’s start with location!

Location: This year Omni Expo was at the Florida Hotel again since it was a success at this location a year ago. Last year, the format was a little weird because of Panel Room 1 being close to the vendor hall and the Main Events Room and so on, this year they changed it up slightly. Instead of having Panel Room 1 close to Vendors, they put it closer to the Gamin Rooms and Panel Room 2 which 2 was changed and was a bit bigger from last year. As in, PR 2 is not as tiny, I don’t feel like my claustrophobia was being affected, it was just longer and had more chairs in the audience area. PR 1, on the other hand, it was wider! As in, it seems like they wanted these rooms to be bigger than last year’s rooms and glad they went with that especially with more people attendee this convention. Yes, there was a bigger turn out this year that I’ve noticed and glad to see that with this year. Heck, someone even posted on the Florida Mall Facebook saying, “There are so many people with weird colored hair, armor, and more.” This is what happens when you hold a convention, heck I still remember walking past Auntie Ann’s last year as Link and everyone followed with their gazes.

Vendors Hall: This year’s Vendors Hall felt like it was the same size as last year. Even though I was hoping Surreal Makeup would be back for this year since there was one item I did see I would like to get but they weren’t there which sucked a little. Hoping to catch them again somewhere at Holiday Matsuri if we get press again or just buy from their website. I did find something nice that I did end up picking up and that is a Pink Ranger lunch box from the same guy who sells a lot of old school stuff even from Power Rangers. It is the classic Mighty Morphen Pink Ranger and as you know it brings back so many memories and when I was around that age I didn’t get any Power Rangers stuff except the movie items from McDonald’s when I was about to go into the fourth grade and wanted to see that movie but saw Pocahontas instead. This lunch box does come in handy to carry food in even for convention time when I do carry sandwiches and other things, heck I think it’s roomier than my Dead Pool Chimichanga truck lunch box. We did bump into the Japanese snacks guy we always love buying from since he spotted me through my Rarity cosplay and I thought he wouldn’t be selling at the convention but silly kitty or shall I say unicorn me was glad to see him and did get another mystery bag and a bag of strawberry Kit Kats to try out! Look out for a video on that! Besides the vendors, they did bring back some of the vehicles they had on display, which we did hear the Jurassic Park theme song playing in the back and that was next to Rob Simms’s table. We mostly mingled with some of the other guests, I did get to talk to Mesumi Sempai a little bit since I never got to talk to her one on one and she is one of the nicest people you will ever meet. We did talk to Paul St. Peter again since we have interviewed him last year and it was sad that he didn’t bring back Pirate Curses. We did go to two of his other panels which….

Events & Panels: This year was eventful! Even more than last year! I can see why there was a bigger turn out since there were a lot of guests coming including Sawa who was the Japanese singer that was invited this year, we wanted to interview her but due to her being on high demand for interviews and her schedule being busy we will be arranging a Skype interview sometime soon. We did go to her acoustic show Saturday night and if you haven’t seen her live I would suggest to do so! We do have both of her CDs and I will probably do a review of them whenever I can get the time to do it since now I’ve been pretty busy. I did get brought to tears during one of her songs since it was very touching and hearing it acoustic made it even more special. She did do one medley but don’t want to tell you guys about it since she did say not to record that one but the others you could. I did like the song “What Is Wrong with Me?” since that is also a sticker you could get for free at her table and can’t wait to hear the album version. We did go to her panel on Sunday and it was very educational because we get to learn about the bath houses and she shown pictures of the one her family owns. It’s interesting to learn that like with apprenticeships, where you take up some of the more cultural things like being a Geisha and puppetry, it is starting to become a bit of a dying breed due to people in Japan starting to get their own bathrooms to take showers and baths in. If you’re visiting Japan at all, I would say visit them or even Sawa’s family’s bathhouse since we have seen them in anime and movies why not check out the real one? Also, meet Sawa if she is at a convention near you because she is a major sweetheart!

Besides going to Sawa’s stuff, we did go to, well I did go to the Crystal Carnivale ball since it was RWBY themed this year. As you know, Gondras and I are huge fans and well we did have a bit of a hiccup at the door. The thing was Gondras was supposed to be my escort despite not being formally dressed, I thought he would do his Fourth Doctor but he didn’t since it would be a little hot in the Florida Mall Hotel despite it being cold at night, I know the weather should have happened during Holiday Matsuri. Anyways, when we got to the door, they wouldn’t allow Gondras in even though we asked the staff it was okay and apparently word didn’t get to the volunteers at the door. I didn’t want to waste the $5 and went in anyways. One of the staff members did find me and apologized for what had happened at the door and was appreciative for what we have done ever since the convention started. I did spend the rest of the hour there but felt bad for Gondras even though they wanted him back in and I tried telling him to come back which they said it was okay, he didn’t want to. I did try having fun at least and got to see the Nora cosplayer, since she is one of my fave characters from the series, perform even if I couldn’t see it. The funny thing though, not sure if they got the vibe from my dress or something, the room was split into red and white tables representing Team RWBY and Team JNPR and when you entered the ball you were given a pack of buttons with clothes pins in the color representing that team and I was already sitting at a white tablecloth table and asked what color was the clothespin and it was white. I did joke in my notes, “Maybe they knew I had a Team JNPR shirt?” Which is true, I have it in my closet again to go with my new RWBY chiffon skirt and hat! I did reunite with Gondras and we go to the Creating Good Guys panel and Bad Guys panels that night since I am a writer after all and have been on a major writer’s block with my third book and getting back into it, it was interesting in my opinion since it did give me new insights in how I should take my story. I even asked advice from Kaz LeFave and Mimi Jean Pamfiloff recently and I thank them for that. In between both of those panels, we did attend Derek Steven Prince’s Jeopardy panel which I did put on our itinerary as a possible thing to do. We did participate in it and winning lets you spend an hour with him. Did we win? Yes! It was a challenge with most of the questions and we got to learn more about him before the interview which you will catch on our YouTube soon which that was our entire hour with him. He did come into the Creating Bad Guys panel and sit in on it. I think we do have video from that so you will get to see the Good Guys and Bad Guys panels.

Many other events and panels we went to include the two panels that Bruce Carr also known as No Ordinary Balloon Man which if you haven’t catched him at a con, you should because he does a lot of balloon creations. This year he went all Digimon with Wyrmon, Tai, and the Digimon Emperor! We did see Josh Seth stand next to the Tai creation during the weekend which was awesome. What panel stood out between the two he had done was Twisting Up the Odds because what was interesting about him is that he has Asperger’s along with Evan, which we also catch with him and records video of his creations, and it was a very inspirational panel. One thing I have to say is that being disabled people think you can’t do anything and it’s heartbreaking to see that. I did help with making a penguin because Bruce pulled me up to the front due to his story about how he went into balloon making and that he and I recreated the penguin he had made for a boy that not only his condition but was also blind and that he came to me for that it brought tears of joy. Heck, trying to keep my composure here! I still have the penguin and knowing that my final review part may make you guys cry so have the tissues because I may need them too! Another event on a happier note, the Live Script Reading! This year’s script reading was very entertaining and it included Sawa, Paul, Derek, Josh, one of the cosplay guests, and Rob Simms and the scripts they had included from Star Wars, Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2, and Fifth Element. Perfect timing for Guardians 2 since they had the scenes with Taser Face and the one where Groot had to get Yandu’s fin back. In the Taser Face thing, Sawa played the part of Rocket and she did pretty well and she did narrate the Yandu and Groot part where Josh was Rocket, Rob was Groot, and Derek was Yandu. He gave him the Veemon voice from what I was noticing and it fit! I still busted out laughing with the human toe part! That still gets me even when how the audio description read it out to me while seeing the movie a year ago. And another event was Josh Seth’s illusion show that he made for Omni Expo! What most people probably don’t know is that he does magic related things and it was an amazing show that he put together for Omni and how he made the tricks. Heck, the final trick, he had the serial number on Gondras’ dollar bill in the end! Holy crap! Two thumbs up if you’re into magic shows. It was my first one live as a blind person since Gondras wanted to see how Josh would make his show seen by a blind person since on Pen & Teller’s Fool Us show one of the magicians did a card trick made for a blind participant in mind. I did participate somewhat in the final trick where he tried asking me to come up but he had me stay in the audience. Don’t want to fall off another stage which…in case anyone is asking…my panel…no one came again! I am not sure if it is my time slot selection since the cosplay contest was going on and hoped to get some remains of Josh’s crowd from his creative panel. Empty and again Gondras had to play the crowd which I do have video from. Not sure if I should bring another panel or not, who knows what will happen next year.

Rating: ::hears alarms:: SUPER CONVENTION ACCOMPLISHED! What does that mean? It means this convention had a major accomplishment since things have gone through the roof! This year’s Omni has been a major inspirational convention because of how we can tackle obstacles and put ourselves out there. Ever since Omni first found this blog all thanks to a small typo, I wouldn’t be still doing press for them to this day and is keeping me hopeful for my future doing press. Not only that, also my dreams to become an Assistive Tech Specialist since I was told to stick with writing except I use tech in order to write and without that tech I wouldn’t be writing this review and Nerdy Shique Universe wouldn’t exist! All I have to say is that all thanks to meeting Sawa, Derek Steven Prince, even getting to be up there with Bruce helping him with re-creating that penguin, it has inspired me to go further. What really makes me go further was that staff member, Roy, who came to talk to me before the Crystal Carnivale ever started and telling me that they have appreciated what not only me but what Gondras and Nerdy Shirts had done over the years. Yes, I went to year one alone and came back with two other members and looking at what we’ve done is a major accomplishment and that really warmed my heart. ::sees kitty minions with tissue boxes:: Thanks! ::takes one:: So in the end, I hung up my Omni Expo badge as a symbol of how much we’ve done in the past and even this year. Thank you Omni Expo for bringing us for press every year and showing that you guys may be small as heck but you still bring people to your convention even if it’s before springtime and had to switch with MegaCon. You guys are still a favorite and keep on going!

Needs for Improvement: Even though this year was really good but I do have two things to improve on…

Improving Volunteers With Escorts: As in, letting them know that even if they don’t have formal wear but let their escorts into the Crystal Carnivale when it comes to being disabled. Staff did apologize to me in person which was the best thing ever and I did write to Omni that there should be something in place to help any disabled, especially blind, attendees when it comes to getting around and even having their escorts with them in a special way. For instance, when I was in the costume contest last year as Link, I had Gondras escort me to where I need to be and they let him help and even handled Ageslash in making it wave. Anyways, that should be a permanent thing for certain events whether it’s being a contestant or going into the formal even if the escort is not dressed for the occasion.
Signings Should Be In A Small Room: What I mean by this is that the lines for the guests were taking up foot traffic in the Vendor’s Room which there were the area for shopping and it was hard to see who was in line for the guests and who was going to a vendor. I think the Florida Mall Hotel can move the walls so it would be a nice section to block off between the vendor halls and have people either peek in to see if a guest is around or see about the schedule on an easel to say, “Hey! This person is going to be back at this time!” Would ease the foot traffic a little or expand the width of the vendor’s area to make it more expanded for signings. I missed it where in the Double Tree near Universal there was a big area for the guests to sign things and that was out of the way of people walking, it was the same way back at the Rosen Center in 2015 and even year one where there was one huge area towards the back of the vendor area for guests so it would be easier to walk around. So yeah, there should be a bigger area for guests and/or make a room separate for them so foot traffic won’t be so obstructed. Always next year folks!

Guest Suggestions: Since I haven’t put this in here, now starting to with new reviews, I think conventions should be suggested some people and take them on a bit more. Here are my suggestions for 2019!

Melissa Fon: Since we have three Digimon guest, why not get someone from one of the most iconic of the seasons and darkest of them all, Melissa Fon who played Rika. She also was the voice of Edward in Cowboy Bebop!
Steve Blum: He was at Holiday Matsuri and would be fun for him to return for another Orlando convention!
Mary Elizabeth McGlynn: Can’t have Steve without Mary since they have worked with each other in the past!
Neil Kaplan: He has not been back to Orlando has he? He plays Halsemon and Hawkmon in Digimon Season 2 and any Voltron: Legendary Defender fans, he is Zarcon for that season!
Team FourStar: It’s been four years since they’ve been back and it would be fun to bring the main three, Lenimpataur, Takata, and KaiserNekko to bring on the fun. Especially with Final Fantasy VII Mission Abridged being such a hit. Try having your fiancé quote Vincent Valentine from this!
Louis Lovehog also known as Linkara: Since MythiCon had ended in 2014, I think we’re missing Atop the Fourth Wall Live and it would be fun to see him do another comic here in the Sunshine State!

Well, that is it for this review! Don’t worry everyone, we do have videos coming up from this year’s event! From my panel to our interview with Mr. Prince, we have a lot! Not only that, I did say we are trying to arrange a Skype interview with Sawa in the near future due to her packed schedule and hoping we can get it up before whatever convention we go to next. Knowing that our time differences well probably be worked around since she is in Japan and we’re in the U. S. would be nice to visit Japan, wouldn’t it? Hey, we have to work with what we got and I did re-install Skype since we have our first interview in the works to make up for not being able to interview anyone during Holiday Matsuri last year. You will see! So, in the meantime, make sure you follow us on Twitter @ Nerdy Shique for all the latest updates for our posts here on Word Press and YouTube. In case if you want to suggest who we should start doing Skype interviews with, would like suggestions and see if we can reach out. We also would like authors too since we do have book reviews here! So, until next time! Catch you all on the universe side!

Conventions: Voice Actors Panel from Holiday Matsuri 2017!

Hello Shiquers and welcome back to Nerdy Shique Universe and time to continue the Holiday Matsuri Coverage!

Saturday, Dec. 16: Voice Actor’s Panel:

So, another Saturday event which happens to be the Voice Actors Panel on that Saturday with Charlotte Chung, J. Michael Tatum, Brandon McInnis, and Fred Tatasciore. We covered this one as our press requirement which I wanted to do their Holiday Panel but it wasn’t on the schedule but it did take place but hey we at least got this one. I know this is so out of order but our Friday stuff is going to be on Google Drive so I can get it onto YouTube as soon as I can with the magic of my Galaxy Tablet! (Yes, trying to navigate that thing!)

Anyways, I did get to ask a question which happened to be the Fave Holiday Moment which I started adding to my interview questions for Holiday Matsuri but due to what took place this year with interviews I did ask some of the interview questions I had for people and ask them during panels. The stories the actors gave were pretty good, even Brandon gave a Fourth of July one which does count as a holiday and it was during the time he was in Japan. You will get to hear that. Gondras did help people with questions to ask while we were in line especially with our fave question, “What was the funniest moment in the booth?” This is the number one question that I always love to ask because I heard stories of funny moments in commentaries and that is how the question came to be and you will also hear those answers to that question and it was pretty funny with Fred. I have a feeling that is one answer he would give if we had that one on one.

Well, that is about it for this post! I hope you enjoy the videos with this panel and stay tuned for the rest! I am not sure if I should post the Idol Festival if that is one of the videos on our SD card because of the music being copyrighted and the footage was not as great.

What is next though? The Bests & Worsts of 2017 and man my fingers are going to hurt with this one with the amount of stuff to talk about! Stay tuned!

Conventions: Holiday Cosplay Runway Contest from Holiday Matsuri 2017!

Hello Shiquers and welcome back to Nerdy Shique Universe! Time to get back to the Holiday Matsuri 2017 coverage and starting with the Cosplay Runway Contest!

Saturday, December 16, 2017 Cosplay Runway!

This year we covered the Holiday Cosplay Runway Contest that is a big event for cosplayers. This is where people do holiday versions of their costumes to enter and well we did have some interesting entries and some entries that weren’t holiday even. Normally with non-holiday cosplays that is for the Cosplay Super Show on Sunday which we didn’t get to cover this year but if you guys want to see that for next year’s coverage then request!

One of the most interesting entries happened to be a group doing the Three Amigos and they sang “Feliz Navidad” by Jose Feliciano (Sorry if I misspelled that! My Spanish is very rusty!) And did fit since that gets played everywhere during the holidays. The good news is that Gondras did get a lot of photos of the entries and winners which I will announce down below since my camera on my phone caught them better this year. Thank you Apple!

Who won this year? Here the6y are:

Best Junior: Happily Ever Cosplay
Best Prop: Monster Hunter which all thanks to characters from this series having such huge weapons, they will always win Best Prop. (Need to see this series at some point!)
Most Festive: Krystal Andrews for the Christmas Miku
Best Creative: Jesse Golden for Gilgamesh from Final Fantasy which was awesome for having all the weapons!
Flashiest: Cosplay Unlimited who did Queen Beryl
Best Group: Love Bug (Which I must see since Christina plays a role in it!)
Most Detailed: Sakizo Cosplay
Judge’s Award: Peppermint Sombra from Over Watch!
Best in Show: Sierra as the Disney Story Reader who actually had light up pages when you open the book! (I bet that took a lot of work!)

There were other entries including the White Queen from The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, an InuYasha which when the hosts said, “Sit boy!” They really sat! Yes, as in face down! The female host did have to get back at the guy and they did it together with the “Sit!” I hope the person was okay afterwards. Some of the non-holiday contestants was a Happy I believe and a Blake from RWBY. If I did Blake, I would probably do some holiday thing.

I hope you guys enjoy the pics since this year they turned out great and hoping next year we will change it up and bring you the Sunday contest! What is next in coverage? One of the voice actor events! Next will also be the Faves of November & December 2017!

Access Tech: Accessibility in Gaming

Hello Shiquers and welcome back to Nerdy Shique Universe and I am back and will be taking a bit of a break from the Holiday Matsuri coverage, which I will get back to since we have to figure out what videos go up first since we have them recorded on Nerdy Shirts’ phone and camera and my phone with pics from the Runway Contest. Don’t worry, it will be up! Right now I am doing a post that my best friend Stellar Nan thought it would be interesting for me to do with my own take and that is…

Accessibility in Gaming

Disclaimer: This post is based on observations and opinions of the lead writer. Please respect her thoughts and thank you!

I am glad to talk about this topic since it has been a hot one all year especially since MegaCon Orlando this year when Troy Baker announced that he wants to see more accessibility in gaming and I did thank him for it which he did mention to me that he has seen articles of blind people popping up in the gaming world which is true.

The first article I had read before the con was done on a Japanese boy who is blind and beat a rhythm game series on the DS and he wrote to Nintendo to thank them for the series which the company did write back to him in a Braille letter and a printed one for his dad and said “Thank you for playing!” This was amazing to me because the kid did go onto playing the Taiko drums all thanks to playing these games which if you haven’t seen a Taiko show I highly recommend to go to one in your area or find videos on YouTube. Even before this article, Gondras did turn me onto one blind gamer that lives in Canada by the name of Steve Sailor who plays games despite having low vision. He has played many games such as Bio shock, Zelda: Breath of the Wild, and Super Mario Odyssey and it is very entertaining to see how he roams around and plays the games and reacts to them. I will put a video link in here so you can see what he does.

When it comes to accessibility, it is where different things to be added in order to make playing games more fun for people with disabilities, especially ones with visual disabilities. It’s not easy to play a game for me since I can’t see the screen nor the buttons but I have been sighted before and remembered playing Sonic 2 the most and almost beating the game a couple of times. I even remembered playing Super Mario All Stars on the Super Nintendo and moved onto the Nintendo 64 and the Gameboy Color. Nowadays with my limited sight, I can only really play Pokémon even though I did help unlock people on Super Smash Brothers but it’s mostly Pokémon and I know how it feels to play it since another blind gamer by the name of James Rath goes through the audio cues like I do but sometimes the Pokémon can sound the same in my ears and do need the sighted help time to time. Plus, walking around can also be difficult since I do run into things a lot and need some directional guide. Trust me, playing Y with Lumios City was not an easy feat with how that city is a rotating 3D model when I look at it. Even navigating Mauville in Alpha Sapphire was confusing too with the different doors you go through. I bet you are wondering where I am getting at.

Screen Reader Tech! That’s right, screen reading tech should be developed for the Nintendo system since Sony has developed it to be on their PlayStation 4 for people with visual impairments to be able to play. I am hoping Gondras does get one soon because I want to see this for myself since I have co-opped with him a couple of times in Tales of Xilia 2!

For many years, I have been emailing Nintendo about this since it is not easy being able to see the text and the story is in that text based telling. Trust me, I try to ask Gondras to read the stuff out even during Pokémon Black and besides the story parts, also reading out signs on buildings since I was able to locate things on the maps in the strategy guides and can’t read them anymore. So, the screen reader would help in reading the maps, reading the tutorials too and even read the different menus on the home screen area when selecting the games you want to play, to putting in the text like with how Siri would do on the onscreen keyboard, and many other things, heck even see items ahead of you.

I did get an email from Nintendo once I read the article about the Japanese boy to reach out to them again and they did say they started including the ability to change the colors on the Nintendo Switch which James Rath talked about in a video I will also include about how a blind person would play the Switch. These settings pretty much change the gray scale and reverse the colors on the screen which sounds like something Zoom Text and Magic does where you can make the background different colors and your cursor a different color to help see while typing as an example. That is a really good start for Nintendo because it is now showing they are joining in on the Accessibility Arena due to how many people that are visually impaired want to enjoy their games. James mentioned how he and another blind friend were able to play together especially with Splatoon where they were able to switch the color blind settings to help with that.

It would be nice for Nintendo to expand on the settings to add the screen reader tech since we do live in the era of voiceover on Apple and Samsung’s tablets and phones, heck even Zoom Text has added speech to be like Magic in its own way. I did bring the question about this to Jennifer Hale and Ally Hillis during the Mass Effect panel during Mega since it would be interesting for their take and they said, “Of course! Since we live in the time of inclusion in tech that would be something that should be added.” You can watch those videos in our MegaCon Orlando coverage on here or go to our YouTube Channel for that. I do agree with their points because we do have the audio description and closed captions for the sight and hearing impaired audiences who love to come and see a movie with their family and friends so should have a talk with the companies that develop these devices or talk to Freedom Scientific, the creators of NVDA in Australia, or even Apple and Samsung for help in how to make something like this to work on the Switch and their DS systems since we do have the New DS too to think about. Plus, it will help Nintendo to keep up with Sony since they are getting into the Accessibility game a little more to include more gamers in their market and it would be the same with Nintendo if they keep going forward.

Well, that is my take on the accessibility in gaming since I am a JAWS user, it would be nice to play Pokémon with screen reading support. I did bring it up to someone I used to know and he thought this was a bad idea but now with more blind gamers and now voice actors wanting to see it more, I guess he will be thinking it more differently if he has been to the latest conventions where the actors have talked about it and plus more blind gamers are popping up in the mainstream media even on YouTube. I haven’t mentioned the points that Extra Credits mentioned in one video they did all thanks to someone who told her story but I will also include their video on Accessibility in gaming too. Now I will be crossing my fingers on all my paws to see if more accessible settings go forward. And I also want to thank Steve Sailor for letting me use one of his videos to show what he does and in a recent video he is starting to be a consultant to help game developers so hoping an expansion does happen. So, enjoy the videos and until next time! I will be doing a post that Mr. Brandon McInnis inspired me to do during Holiday Mature. Until next time!

Shopping: Holiday Gift Guide 2017!

Hello Shiquers and welcome back to Nerdy Shique Universe! It is November and we are getting closer to Christmas and you know what that means! It is time for a gift guide here. I have done gift giving advice here and back on Myspace when it was a thing and now it is time for a gift guide in case if you need some ideas!

MakeUp Sets: First is makeup sets! We all know the beauty lovers in our lives and getting that perfect makeup gift would help. We do have the beginners and experts that we know when it comes to makeup and Holiday time is when the brands come out with their own makeup set. I have gotten some in the past and even purchased a few for myself this year and they are worth it. Some of the makeup sets that are big this year include Tarte’s Holiday sets which you can find at Ulta and Sephora depending on who has what, Kat Von D’s Saint & Sinner pallet which would be a big one to ask on any list, but if you want to go for drugstore E. L. F. has released a lot of sets from brushes to highlighters and even stocking stuffer gifts. If you want a better list of sets, I would suggest watching Kat and Hayleigh (sorry if I butchered the spelling) on Beauty News since they talk a lot about new releases even for holiday and Jen Luv’s Reviews for new holiday releases every week on What’s Up In MakeUp and I suggest joining the Facebook group since everyone helps in suggesting products so asking for what gift to ask for or get for someone special they are willing to help. Heck, they helped me with selfie advice.

When it comes to some sets I would suggest, I would suggest the Ulta sets in Be Gorgeous, Beauty Treasures, and Love MakeUp because not only you get a lot of makeup but it does come in nice cases that you can keep. If you have someone that loves jewelry boxes, I would suggest the Beauty Treasures because you can remove the face and eye pallets for convenience since they are not in the signature plastic casing like the Be Gorgeous one. Plus you can go through the drawers very easily for what you need for instance, one drawer is for the concealers and eye primers, another one is for the brow powders, gel liners, cream shadows, and eye topcoats, and the last drawer has the lip items, the brow mascara, and a blush brush and dual ended eye brush. You would pay a bit more for this and good thing is the eye pallet has a lot of warm and cool shades to play with. If you have someone that loves train cases more for convention travel or vacations, then the Be Gorgeous and Love MakeUp sets are for them. I just got the Love MakeUp on sale and these two sets do have your usual eye shadow pallet which the Be Gorgeous comes with 42 shades while Love Makeup comes with 36 and you can create a lot of looks with these and you do have your essentials like your bronzers, gel liners, brow powders, but interesting thing is that the Love MakeUp does not come with the primers. I would suggest using your usual eye primers with the Be Gorgeous and Beauty Treasures sets because I find the Ulta primers in these sets too drying. Also, with Love MakeUp you do get lip liners. I would say for either of these sets to see which one would be worth more to give and again to see if the person loves train cases or jewelry boxes. These sets do retail for $29 which is Beauty Treasures and $24 for the other two but they do have specials on the train case sets.

Nerd Memorabilia: Here at Nerdy Shique Universe, we do include nerds when it comes to giving gifts and many stores do carry a lot of merch based on Doctor Who, Harry Potter, even Dungeons & Dragons. Your best places to find these things are Barnes & Noble, especially the ones with music and movies being sold, Best Buy where they sell Marvel themed thumb drives and other pop culture related things mixed with tech, F. Y. E. for a lot of your merch and tees, Hot Topic being the biggest, and two more stores to mention that we do have here in Orlando and they are Pop Cult where there are way more pop culture items like Hello Kitty, Pokemon, and more, and Box Lunch which has more of the classic pop culture stuff like Miyazaki films and 90’s themed stuff. Gondras did get me a Gigi from Kiki’s Delivery Service as a coin bank last year for Christmas from Box Lunch by the way. Nice thing about that place, they do put your purchases in a lunchbox like carton since it does match the name. I know I will be hitting the Hot Topic website for Gondras this year! Lol

Bath & Body Sets: I know a lot of us love to pamper ourselves after a stressful week at work, heck even a stressful weekend at a convention, so having a a set of bath or skin care or body products to help soothe that aching foot or to calm the skin from stress is a way to go. Many brands have been coming out with sheet masks to help with the skin, even on a plane which I hear people use sheet masks to help with the dry air on a plane, and you know the holidays are HUGE for travel! You can get some of these sets from Sephora where they have skin care sets from Glam Glow, Tachia, Boshia, and much more. Emily Noelle even talked about some masks she got with holiday scents recently like pumpkin spice and sugar cookie and I think those are Ulta and you do have other brands at Ulta like Tony Moley, their in house brand of bath sets that you can get Buy One Get One 50% Off at the moment. I do hear the scents from Ulta do smell good. And of course, Bath & Body Works, my kryptonite with their Christmas scents! And of course, can’t forget Lush because they do have awesome gift sets with bath bombs, bubble bars, and they do come with mini shower gels in there too and good thing about getting these sets from Ulta, or Bath & Body Works, and Lush is that if the person never tried them before this is how you can try them. That is how I got into Lush by the way, Mommy Gondras did work for them seasonally back in 2007 and I got a gift box from their Christmas line and I was addicted, even to Snow Fairy. So, every year is Snow Fairy right after Christmas! So yes, sets are a good way to go!

Luxury Brand Sets: I can’t forget about this because there are times where we know someone that loves that luxury skin care brand or makeup brand and there are times where the singles are a bit pricey. A lot of the luxury brands do come out with their own holiday sets and if you have saved up a lot over time then getting a set like this would give the luxury lover a ton to try. One good set definitely to recommend are the mud mask sets from Glam Glow because you get to sample some of their more popular masks in one single set rather than trying to buy it for $50 (just guessing) and around this time there is the Sephora sale depending on your membership level you get 15% as a Bauty Insider and 20% for VIB and VIB Rouge which does help even when it comes to early gift shopping.

Train Cases: I feel like bringing these up as a possible gift item especially when I mentioned the Ulta sets before and that is train cases. If you don’t want to get the Ulta sets, there are the usual train cases that we love to travel with, heck I am going to be using my pink caboodle for Holiday Matsuri since that is what I use for my convention makeup stuff. These last you for a long time and they do come in many sizes and price ranges. I have a six tray one and it was $24 if I remembered and I got it from WalMart two years ago. Trust me, I have a lot of stuff to put in, lol! Anyways, besides WalMart selling these, you can find at Target, Ulta, and I believe Sephora too and of course Amazon and EBay does carry some of the older ones you may not be able to find in store anymore.

MakeUp Bags: Besides train cases, you can also get a loved one a makeup bag because a lot of us do travel and having that makeup bag is very handy! They come in all shapes and sizes and even in nerd memorabilia, heck I have a Pikachu and an Artemis one from Hot Topic since you know me, plus they do come as sets depending on the brand. For instance, Too Faced has a set where you get three mini shadow pallets, their Better Than Sex Mascara, and other items in a makeup bag. Even MAC has some such as their mini lip glass trio, which you can use the little makeup bag afterwards for lip stuff, bobby pins, and other things when you are on the go. Also, Sephora has really big ones every holiday and they come oujt with new designs for every holiday so you can get what you like. And in case if you are at a department store browsing makeup counters, some of the brands do include makeup bags as gifts with purchase, I do admit I take my mom’s Lancome ones due to how spatious they are. Lol! Speaking of gift sets…

Perfume and Cologne Sets: Besides beauty and clothing, there are the loved ones that love to smell good! I usually ask for perfume but due to how many bottles I have I have slowed down incredibly! Anyways, sets are a good thing to go with because there are times when a brand wants to treat the customer or their loved ones by selling the set together and they do come with pretty sweet stuff like a shower gel and lotion and sometimes even a bag to go with. For instance, my Nicole Richey perfume set came with a carrying bag. A good set that people suggest is the one from Sephora because they include a coupon to get the full-size perfume or cologne that is included in the set of minis of your choice.

Gift Cards: If you have a hard time choosing what you want to get someone, gift cards are a way to go! In my gift advice, I say pay attention to where your loved ones shop or ask where they like to go. If you can’t get an answer, you can get them a Visa gift card so they can spend it anywhere. Another good idea is if the person loves to play games on their devices or game systems, you can get them either a Google Play card, an ITunes card, or even the systems’ cards to use in their stores such as the PSN card in case if they want to get a classic game or pay for their membership at the end of the month.

Food Sets: Finally, there are times when we want to give a person a little something extra especially in their stocking and that is either something sweet like candy or a box of cocoa packets. Heck, my mom gave me a can of blueberry tea bags one year as her stocking stuffer gift because I love blueberries especially as a tea. Not only that, if you have a party to go to or your friend loves savory foods, Hickory Farms always, always, ALWAYS have stands every year! If you have not tried Hickory Farms, I suggest trying their turkey summer sausage. Anyways, this place is a good idea for any party platter or as a gift even the day after Christmas has a good sale with them which is buy one get one 50% off and that includes their food sets that come with pretty good mustard spreads to tell you the truth.

Etsy: Finally! Finally! If Didn’t mention this earlier, Etsy is also a good place for gifts! This has a lot of craft items made by people, think of it a craft version of EBay. Not only that, this is where most of the people I meet at Artists Alley sell here as well such as Black Flame Creations, Aunt Matilda’s, and a bunch more. You can find a lot of great jewelry, some people even sell kitchen items, even candles if you can’t walk into a Yankee Candle. Plus, a lot of stuff is really well priced and they do ship as soon as possible even in time for holiday time! For instance, I got Vivi a wolf necklace for her since I was her Secret Santa last year and I did remember how she loved wolves and found it when looking for steam punk jewelry and it did arrive on time. So, I would say look around Etsy and also sign up for their newsletters because they will give you some items as ideas and some of the stuff does get discounted depending on the seller.

That is it for this post! Hoping you got some inspiration from this post! Christmas is my fave time of year not only just for gifts and sales but also Holiday Matsuri and the Doctor Who special that comes around every year. So, good luck on your gift hunt! What is next? A new cosmetic controversy that may want you to think carefully of swatching a tester on yourself! Until next time!

Convention Spotlight: Holiday Matsuri 2017

Hello Shiquers and welcome back to Nerdy Shique Universe! It is time! What time is it!? It’s Convention Spotlight Time! Which one is it?

Convention: Holiday Matsuri 2017
Location: Marriott World Center Resort and Convention Center in Orlando, FL
Dates: December 15th-17th, 2017

Yes it is back for another year! Orlando’s #1 Holiday Themed con is back for another year and at the same location as last year, Holiday Matsuri! Also, this is our third year of press and that means new coverage, hoping new people to interview this year since you guys love those things when it comes to the Shique Hot Seat, and seeing about events to cover for this year too. I will update at Twitter @ Nerdy Shique with the events the convention chooses for us to cover so I would suggest to follow that. Also, I did put in a panel form this year so hoping you guys will get to see a new panel from me! Let’s see the info for anyone new who wants to check this convention out!

Location: Holiday Matsuri is returning to the World Center Marriott here in Orlando! If you guys have not been to this during last year’s convention or during Omni Expo Year 1, you may have seen how huge this place is! It is located at 8701 World Center Blvd. which is close to the Walt Disney area. If anyone wants to book a room, there is a convention rate for this year, You can book the room at:

http://holidaymatsuri.com/2017hotel/

And make sure to use the code for the discount rate and I have seen the rooms all thanks to Nerdy Shirts staying there last year and they are nice and depending on the floor, you do get a nice view! If it is still warm in Orlando this year, you do have a nice pool area, then you have the Pantry where you can get food and it is pretty nicely priced but if you don’t want to buy there there are restaurants in the surrounding area including Wendy’s, CiCi’s, and so much more! I also heard they decorate the hotel nice for Christmas, I know in the event rooms they do but haven’t seen the outside so get your cameras ready!

Registration Info: Of course we have to mention Registration which is important for any of you going to any convention! To buy tickets you will be buying them through Event Bright, you can also do it through the Event Bright app on your IOS and Andorid devices which once installing the app and signing up, you search for Orlando, FL and Holiday Matsuri will be listed or you can try searching for this event too to make it easier. The passes availkable now are the Three Day pass, the VIP Pass, and the Forever Festive Pass. If you want single day, those will be available online closer to the event so keep an eye out on the website as December gets closer.

If you bought any tickets during September, $5 of sales went to Save The Children which is a charity that helped displaced kids during Hurricane Irma. You can donate through their link on the Registration page which I will link to here:

http://holidaymatsuri.com/2017registration/

It will also include all the registration and pass info! I would say pre-register as soon as possible even if you are getting a pass for aloved one as an early holiday gift! (Not bad of an idea!)

Guests: This year there are a variety of guests which you can check out here:

http://holidaymatsuri.com/2017guests/

Some of the guests include:

Christina V.: She is the new voice of Sailor Mars and of course Homura Akemi in Madoka Majica.
J. Michale Tatum: Scar in FullMetal Alchemist: Brotherhood and Sebastion in Black Butler.
Brandon McInnis: Appeared in Black Butler as well.
Fred Tatasciore: He was just announced and you may know him as the Incredible Hulk in Avengers Assemble!

Vendor’s Room: For anyone who needs a last minute holiday gift, Holiday Matsuri is your best stop for that nerd who loves anime, movies, video games, etc. in your family or your significant other! You can find a variety of merch and artist made items in this room. Can’t wait to see what vendors they bring to this room this year!

Events and Contests: If you are wondering about events and contests, you can find information about contest sign up and other info here: http://holidaymatsuri.com/2017contestsandevents/

If you haven’t seen our cosplay gallery where we included pics of the winners from last year’s Holiday Runway COntest, I would say search for it on here! It is a very fun and festive contest where people do holiday themed versions of characters that we know and love!

Well, that is it for this Convention Spotlight! This year’s convention will be exciting and hoping to see you guys there in holiday cosplay or in regular clothes! In case if you guys need some night life outside of the convention, there is always Disney down the road even Disney Springs since they will be going through their Holiday Events especially Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party and Universal doing their holiday stuff as well. And of course, Last Jedi is opening in December and Thor Ragnarok will still be in theaters which Gondras and I are excited for that!

Hope to see you guys there! What is next? I am thinking of updating the Convention Snacks post because I do have two new entries to add and it would help in the snack department for you all who are staying at any hotel during any convention, even for Holiday Matsuri! You guys can also find our past Holiday Matsuri coverage which includes the Cosplay Galerries from the past two years, our interviews with Josh Seth, Mary Elizabeth McGlynn, Steve Blum, and Todd Haberkorn! You can head over to our YouTube channel for all of our Holiday Matsuri videos!

SO that is it! Until next time and stay tuned for our Last Minute Info post in December!
