Conventions: Mass Effect Q&A Panel from MegaCon 2017!

Hello Shiquers and welcome back to Nerdy Shique Universe! Sorry for being away for a bit since I have been busy doing tech related stuff. I have been using my tablet to get used to it and now have a keyboard for it. So, I am back with a bit of good news! Now we have another MegaCon video! I know it’s been months since the last one but Nerdy Shirts is doing the best he can to post them as time goes and hoping to get it done…I do have an awesome announcement!

Panel: Mass Effect Q&A with Jennifer Hale and Ally Hillis!

So, this was the final panel me and Nerdy Shirts went to the entire weekend and it was with Jennifer Hale and Ally Hillis who played the Female Sheppard and Liara from the Mass Effect series, the first three by the way! I did want to interview Jennifer Hale since we never got a chance to at any other conventions we couldn’t make and of course you guys know the business with us with MegaCon.

Since we did like the games, Gondras palyed the first two around me and as you know the voice acting from it is always amazing and of course in case if you have noticed our logo it was inspired by the Paragon symbol from this series. Did I ask them anything? Yes I did and it was not easy getting myself to the microphone closest to us! My question was inspired by Troy Baker which I wished we got footage but essentially that Saturday he said during his panel with Nolen North that he wants to see more accessibility in video games and that made me cheer because as you know I love playing Pokemon and want to have a screen reader there to help. I asked the ladies what they think and you will hear the answer in one of the four parts. Yeah, this panel got divided into four, sorry guys!

Well, that is about it for this post! I do have a very awesome announcement which I did announce on YouTUbe! We’re going to Holiday Matsuri for another year for press! Yay! I will be doing the Convention Spotlight on it soon and I am so excited about this year since we have worked with them in the past and this is looking up for us! I am hoping we do get interviews because last year was a bit of a mix up so hoping things are going to go smoothly this year. Next up is another book review from a pretty good writer so far so stay tuned for that guys! Until next time!

Convention Impossible: MegaCon Orlando 2017

Hello Shiquers and welcome back to Nerdy Shique Universe. MegaCon has passed and man this will be my most honest review, let’s get to it!

Disclaimer: This review is based on opinion and observations of the lead writer and producer of this blog. Please respect her thoughts and feelings, more like deep thoughts and feelings about this convention because it will be one huge honest review especially the results.

Location: This convention has been held at the Orange County Convention for many years but has been in multiple buildings. In most of the years I’ve been to this convention it was in the North Concourse and then one year or two in the South Concourse and now this year was in the North South Concourse. I know it sounds confusing but I am not done yet! Basically, the building is separated in North and South where you can cut through the vendor’s room to get to both sides until closing time when you have to go back out to get to either side. In order to get your ticket, you had to walk to the South side in the side to get your wristband, VIP pass, and the Press pass like mine, which was a pin on tag which you could also clip onto a lanyard. There was also the option for four day pass holders to receive their passes in the mail to ease the trouble of waiting. Hmmm, why not do that other cons? Anyways, so with panels, you had to go to either North or South Concourse areas to see the panels and how I saw it that the more comic book and sci-fi panels were on North side, not only that there were also the cartoon guests and video game panels on top of it, while the South side had the anime related panels and North had the gaming room for any gamers that need a break. Having the game room somewhere in the Concourse instead of the vendor’s room like with previous years, which that is next!

Vendor’s Hall: Or Exhibitor’s Hall for the volunteers working! It was …pardon my French…fucking huge! I never thought in my five years of returning I would see something this big! I thought the one during 2011 was big! Not only we had a lot of vendors, which we did find some sweet ones including Tee Turtle where I got my “Crazy Cat Lady” shirt (I know that is supposed to be for someone who is single but I do love cats and it had kitties!) Not only that, the Artist’s Alley was also huge since we were walking all over to find me some Dolic earrings since I didn’t have any while wearing my Doctor Who dress. Oh, need to mention the celebrity area! Not only it was huge but there was one huge, huge, HUGE area for Stan Lee! Gondras was only there for a day and he saw the humongous line of people and I was like “Oh f**k no!” If anyone has been on Splash Mountain, that line was way longer than that! I did meet Katie Griffin and Linda Ballumtyne in the flesh and did give them lanyards themed after their respective Sailor Scout. I did want to meet some of the other guests but we had to run to so many panels to get for the channel, which speaking of which…

Panels: This year was the only year at MegaCon I’ve been to the most panels. As said before, we had to go between the concourses to get to the many panels we have gone to. We went to Q&A panels for Brina Palencia, Mike McFarland (which I was glad to hear that he is also a Whovian and he has me wanting to watch Hitalia after knowing that he is Estonia and always hearing Todd Haberkorn as Italy.) Also, a panel with Amanda Miller, Brina, and Jamie Marchi, and went to Billy West’s panel Saturday night which was hilarious. I think the best panels I’ve been to all weekend were Stan Lee’s and the Tom Wilson panels! Stan Lee is of course the major comic book legend and without him we wouldn’t see the awesome Marvel movies. Too bad we couldn’t interview him because it would’ve been as entertaining as the panel but couldn’t do an interview, which I will get into detail after the Verdict. This panel was very good and we got to hear about Stan’s first visit to Universal and there was one tip that one person did ask out during the Q&A part was about his advice for anyone who wants to become a writer and that is: “Write what you like! All I hear about nowadays from writers is I write this book for this age group but what happens if you’re older than that and will you like it? Don’t write for anyone else just what you like.”

I will take that to heart since I have started writing fiction stuff and my second book will be out in September and just wrote it based on things I liked rather than others would like and that will be passed onto the next book which I am about to start to work on soon.

We did tape a lot of panels but there were two we didn’t get footage for which were the Flash panel with Tom Cavanah and Danielle Pannebaker who played Reverse Flash and Killer Frost because of copyright reasons and how they did talk about show stuff. I did find funny from the panel that Daniellle did mention to Tom how she was in Sky High and that his kids would love it and guess what they do and they always want to watch it. The other panel we didn’t get was the Q&A panel with Troy Baker and Nolan North due to coming in close to it ending. One thing I was happy with this panel was after getting off the phone with Gondras was that Troy mentioned how video games should be more accessible for blind people! I did cheer for it and I was really happy about it since there have been articles lately about blind people playing games, for instance this past week my buddy Stellarnan did put a link up about a Japanese boy who was blind since birth beat a rhythm game series and wrote to Nintendo to make more and they sent him a Braille letter thanking him for playing and that they will pass his request on. Another example is that there is a guy on YouTube that plays games and has his friends help with navigation, which the last game he did with his friends was MarioKart 8 for the Switch. I did write to Nintendo a long time ago about making a screen reader since I do play Pokemon (Haven’t opened Sun yet!) and it’s hard not being able to read the story and it would help. I will find a way of getting a new letter to Japan after this to get it developed. Anyways, I did thank Troy for it and he really wants to see more players out there even with a disability. This got me to ask Jennifer Hale and Ally Hillis during the Mass Effect panel about it and they said that we are at a time to have more inclusion and accessibility in games and they want to see more people game too. This gave me major hope and if it is possible to get the word out more then it can happen.

Don’t worry guys, Nerdy Shirts will get the videos up of the other panels we got so you can enjoy and I can put them into posts so you can see what I experienced. Which I will start with Tom Wilson’s panel since I caught that on my phone so stay tuned for that!

Verdict:

Convention: CONVENTION COMPLETE
Press: CONVENTION ABORTED!

I know it’s weird to do two different verdicts but this year after doing press this just once it is only once that we will do it.

Don’t get me wrong, I was appreciative for doing it but I felt screwed over as a small blog. Yes, the convention was great and the good thing was that we got to see panels but the truth was we had to be re-considered for this convention after being turned down. I was glad we did since we got to see Stan Lee’s panel and many others, heck the Totally Spies reunion as well. While Press itself is something we have done in the past but I feel like it needs to be worked on a lot more.

What do I mean by this? Well, I feel like the press form should at least mention requirements needed or wanted, especially for online media outlets. New blogs and YouTube channels are coming up and there are times when they want to do a huge convention like we just did and not only that MetroCon has been our first big convention we started with. Why go for the bigger ones? It’s because we are trying to build our resumes in order to do press for other conventions. We have done press for four years and have built it up and have done interviews, which I will mention that next, and have reviewed their events as time went on to show that we can actually do what we do. I even built our press kit in Powerpoint to show what we’ve done so far for press to show it. With a press kit or not, this would help big conventions and bigger conventions trust the smaller blogs along with major press outlets like local newspapers since the newspapers really focus on the event as a whole when YouTube channels or online magazines can do a lot more like we have done with Omni, Mythic, and even Holiday Matsuri which I feel MegaCon should have more trust in smaller outlets. Well, Orlando at least since we haven’t exactly done it with Tampa.

Next is interviews…::heavily sighs:: On the form, it asked about doing interviews and it mentioned how you can interview staff or the celebrity guests which we wanted to do it with guests of course. Then there was another question underneath saying, “What are the top two guests you want to interview?” At the time when they started doing guest announcements the two real guests that caught my eye or shall I say ear since I use JAWS were Stan Lee and Tim Curry and after being re-considered I did ask about that and was told not until April. We were turned down for interviews and I tried to ask about voice actors and was asked what we wanted and waited until they got announced and asked and then was turned down for that too and was told only cosplayers, attendees, and comic book artists.

Okay, I understand Stan Lee and Tim Curry are huge names and it would be hard to see about getting interviews but what about the guests? What is the real reason you won’t let us interview anyone else? That is what puzzeled me the most. I remembered during MythiCon 2014 where Chuck Huber was going to be there for two days and was given the reason of due to him being there for two days can’t find the time that would be easy to get an interview with him even though he wanted to do it when we told him what had happened. (Chuck, we owe you one so come back to Orlando if you can.) I felt like I was let down majorly about that since voice actors are our biggest thing and I bet you’re wondering “Don’t you cosplay?” Yes I do but here is the thing, when I do interview questions I base it on the work of those people which I research it first and then come up with what I want to ask and well since I can’t really see the work in front of me then there’s the problem. For instance, I was able to interview Riddle because I remembered her from Heroes of Cosplay and I did like what she brought to the show as a cosplayer and had fun talking to her. RJ Heady was easy due to how I knew his work from Face Off and makeup effects are my favorite and they were able to describe the work very well on that show since my vision was not as great when season two rolled around with him on there. So, comic book artists wouldn’t be the best place for me since I can’t keep up with comics due to being not able to read them and see them. I can interview authors that I have read since I can listen to the audiobooks and voice actors because I am able to hear the dub easily. That is why I took it to Twitter to see if some of the guests would like to be interviewed through email and was able to get Katie Griffin and Linda Ballumtyne and promote the convention as well, which I did forget to mention that when I got re-considered that the big thing of doing press is to promote MegaCon and that is what we do with our Convention Spotlight and Last Minute Convention Info since this year was going to be a huge travel year with other things going on such as Volcano Bay and Pandora opening at Universal and Disney. That is why I am treating conventions as travel now among promoting them.

I think that is it, so yeah, after looking at it, I think this will be the only year for us at MegaCon Orlando. We have other conventions to think of and of course the ones we have done press for in the past since we have had great experiences.

I believe that is it for this Convention Impossible! I didn’t try to bash on MegaCon, we did have fun but wishing that press would have been better in my book. I did get to ask questions if I were in an interview which you will get to see in our videos of some of the panels. I am glad that Troy Baker wants to see more accessibility with video games and I was glad to meet Katie Griffin and Linda Ballumtyne which you can still read those interviews! Too bad the Doctor Who companions cancelled since there is a new season of Legends of Tomorrow for Arthur Darvil to do but not sure why Jenna Coleman. Oh well!

What is next for us? My Top Ten Songs for May! Stay tuned!

Conventions: Last Minute MegaCon Info!

Hello Shiquers and welcome back to Nerdy Shique Universe. It is time for the last minute MegaCon info.

I know you are wondering why am I doing this now? Well, since MegaCon is our largest convention in town and people tend to get ready through the time between announcements like we are when it comes to press. I do have some updates that I have received in email.

Pulse Tribute Events on May 26th and 27th: First is that there will be Pulse tribute events during the convention. Everyone knows what had happened to us a year ago in June which was the Pulse Night Club shooting and we lost 49 people in that shooting which was even more sad. We will have a Orlando United Day starting this June but MegaCon will be having tribute events this year to celebrate the ones who survived and died during the horrific night.

PikaBelleChu Event: Our friend PikaBelleChu has invited us and if you follow her on Facebook, you may have gotten her invite to her MegaCon photoshoot. I am thinking of going as Pokemon Ranger Link since that cosplay got some love during Omni. It will be Saturday afternoon.

New Guests: Of course there have been more guests added as time went on and two of them you probably have seen my interviews with which include Katie Griffin and Linda Ballumtyne from Sailor Moon and other guests include Danielle Pannenbaker, Alice Cooper, Mike McFalrand, Troy Baker, Jamie Marchi, and so many more. Check the page for more updates and others probably added until the weekend.

Hotels: Knowing that these will be filled by the weekend, I would say if you are into getting a hotel room or bunking with people, do it now! Knowing this will cause a lot of booking along with the tourist season already starting for us. So, check any of the hotel websites or any travel sites for any deals.

Locations to Go to After Con Conquering: Like most people we do like to go around after our time at the convention and what else is there to do in Orlando? There is the theme parks, Disney Springs which you can catch the new Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2 if you haven’t and if you don’t want to travel that far there is also theaters at Pointe Orlando and at CityWalk in the same area as the convention center along International Drive. If you have someone who wants to shop their hearts out, you also have shops in Pointe Orlando, CityWalk, even Florida Mall, Disney Springs, and we do have our Belz Outlet, and many more. And of course our many restuarants at the Orlando Eye, Red Robin, and one stop if you can get to which me and Gondras recommend and that is Pao Gustoso in case you want Brazilian cuisine for an affordable price.

That is about it! In case you want more information on where to stay and where you want to go during the convention, you can look under the Travel link on http://www.negaconorlando.com and also any of the theme park websites on top of that. What is next? Besides our coverage from this convention, we will also have the Top Ten Songs of May! 2017 where are you going? And also, make sure you donate to our Go Fund Me, Nerdy Shique Universe Travel, so we can go to these conventions and expand our work!

Travel: We Have a Go FUnd Me for Conventions!

Hello Shiquers and welcome back to Nerdy Shique Universe! I will be reviewing Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2 later on today but right now I need to talk serious with you all!

Well, with the four years of doing press at conventions it has gotten very expensive and it is hard for us to not only travel with the hiking gas prices every winter and summer formula of oil being put into the tanks and pumps at gas stations and in cars but there is also food, parking prices like at the Marriot World Center, MetroCons surrounding parking lots, heck even over at MegaCon with the lots too. Plus, we do consider on thinking of hotel time to time but we don’t have enough money to get a room which the last time we did that was at the LaQuinta during Anime Festival Orlando 2015 which is not bad for a price. And of course what if we want to get our own video camera since Nerdy Shirts is letting us borrow the camera from his brother and that can get risky and I do have my IPad with low memory and trying to fix that and thinking of upgrading since I do use it for copying schedules in Numbers and of course use it for back up notes and sometimes camera work. Yes, I know a lot of expenses to consider as a press guy since we do consider ourselves among convention goers since we have to think of the same things time to time besides the usual cosplay issue.

That is why I created a Go Fund Me for us to help out with these issues. As you know I haven’t been working an actual job and have been trying to do the monetization on our YouTube content but some videos can’t be monetized for copyright claims since now we know what to do during Holiday Matsuri if we get the press pass this year and we all know that YouTUbe is having a lot of companies that provide ads pulling out due to certain content that is posted which YouTube did make new guidelines for last year. Which to tell you the truth, we aren’t getting that many views even though we have over 32K views but it is not that much. Plus, my first book only sold two copies and my next one won’t come out until early September and I am still working on my career stuff while Gondras is still going through school and same with Nerdy Shirts on top of it and Gondras just works part time and has bills like everyone. So, that is why hoping the Go Fund Me will help. Why not do Patreon? We were thinking of that for the moment since everyone is on there but I realized we don’t post as much on YouTube and yes I can put more things on there but everyone has their beauty stuff when we do more of convention videos which that draws a lot more views than my beauty videos which I did try along with a haul and taste testing. I may go back to it but with Patreon, most people draw for most people and come up with shirts but I am not at that stage yet. I am at the business cards stage! I do make keychains though not sure how people would like that. It is something to consider but Go Fund Me is the one to go at this time!

And now, finally what did we title it? Well, it’s called Nerdy Shique Universe Travels because we are trying to go to many conventions in Florida, we even want to go back to MetroCon since we did like the convention and had great experiences so far well except having a panel pushed back. Of course, our goal would be SuperCon in Miami for next year and many others outside of the states in the future since we want to expand our press scope to others. Plus, I do consider conventions part of travel since not only we are enjoying three or four days at one but there are other parts of a city we want to explore, for instance, when we went to Metro back in 2013 we drove around the first night before we found Sonic because it has been years since I been back to Tampa for Busch Gardens and Gondras rarely got to see Tampa for more than that and it’s good to know about your surroundings. So, we will be covered for gas, parking fees, and if we want any hotel expenses since it does become a task finding parking for a day. Also, for any equipment we might consider in the future since besides our usual travel problems, we do have that to consider!

In case if you are wondering, our starting goal is $1,500 at the moment but may change later but it is a start! Please donate if you can! Whether it’s $1 or $10, it will help us get to where we need to go when it comes to what we want to do!

So, that is about it and the link for the Go Fund Me is at:

Oops! Actually our goal according to Go Fund me is $150,000!?

Um…well try and donate?

Concerts: Orlando Overdrive 2017 Review!

Hello Shiquers and welcome back to Nerdy Shique Universe! Yesterday was Orlando Overdrive and man it was awesome! We only there for some of the acts but not all because Gondras felt exhausted from work earlier in the day but hey we did have fun from what we saw! We will be putting videos up onto our YouTube so you should be following there, our Twitter account for updates, and Facebook for more updates!

Let’s see what I got and who we saw!

Event: Orlando Overdrive
Location: The Geek Easy inside A Comic Shop!

Location: Let me start off by talking about the location itself! For those of you who may be new to knowing about some of the hangouts outside of the club district basically the Geek Easy is a bar/food hangout inside a comic book shop called A Comic Shop that has been around for a while. It used to be smaller but it got renovated to be more spacious and having a better stage, sound, and even a bar/food area to get drinks and food which is awesome! They do do events such as anime showings, concerts, and even dances because back in the day there were raves there too and even a few burlesque shows. Manime Man used to do his Anime Nights every month at this place but now at Bikkuri Lounge, which I recommend that place for Japanese cuisine especially how big of a bowl of ramen and udan you get! While the Geek Easy does grilled stuff such as burgers, grilled cheese, and their tots are in the shapes of Tetris blocs which throws everyone back! They are delicious and I highly recommend if you go to any event or just hang out!

The Acts: This year, people got to vote on the Ongaku Overdrive website for who they want to see and nine of them get chosen to perform. I did vote for some of them but two we didn’t get to see that I voted which were Ben Briggs, which I wanted to see a few times but always missed, and EyeQ, which he is an awesome rapper especially with doing his own Attack On Titan raps! Who else did I vote for? I will reveal down below!

Jasper from Random Encounter: As we got into the event, we were a little late which it does take a bit to get to my part of town to get me from where Gondras lives, wtis guy was on the stage performing. He used to play accordion for another nerdcore band called Random Encounter which took their separate ways but this guy is still performing! Never thought hearing a guy on accordion was awesome! He took requests from the crowd and even quizzed them in what song he was playing. With one song I was thinking of Mario Kart 64 and Gondras tried to say Mario 64 and got it wrong. He did do the actual song that Gondras was thinking but what was even funnier was when GOndras tried to request “Birdhouse In Your Soul” by They Might Be Giants. He got the old “Don’t know that one!” I can “Nyu” that one and would be funny if I start doing nerd music that way.

Boy Without Batteries: This is one of the other artists that I voted for because I enjoyed his music a lot from the times he performed at the Anime Prom Nights Manime Man did. He does chiptune music and hooked up an old school Game Boy to his soundboard and acts like he is playing the Game Boy while performing the song. It is like doing the chiptune song with a guitar controller or something from Rock Band. I didn’t know what he was doing because my vision sucks and glad that Nerdy Shirts described it to me! You guys should check this guy out after seeing our footage. One song I did like by him was one that almost was like a combination of “Last Chance” by Kascade and “You Are” by Paul Oakenfold which was the version from the Electric Daisy Carnival set from last year! (I listen to the set time to time since I am a bit of a techno fan.) Still, should check him out.

Under Polaris: And the final act that I voted for is Under Polaris which was a blind vote. I never heard of these guys but they are essentially a metal band that does video game covers! You know me when it comes to metal and when I heard this I knew I would enjoy these guys! This band did covers to music from Batman: Return of the Joker, Double Dragon 2, which was a tribute to a close friend, and one that Vivi would appreciate if she heard it unless it is in the footage, Lavendar Town from Pokemon Red and Blue Versions. I did tell Stellarnan I used to have Red Version until my brother’s ex-wife threw away my Game BOy color when my nephew was borrowing it. (Still mad about that!) They did also do the “Suicide Mission” song from Mass Effect 2 which that made me and Gondras happy due to being fans of that game.Thank goodness I voted for these guys after hearing them!

Shammers: Next is a rapper and his buddy that we tend to see a lot at these events and that is Shammers! A heads up, we didn’t get any footage of these guys rapping because Nintendo has been content I.D.ing everyone who has been reviewing anything or using their stuff when it is supposed to be fair use! Sorry about that but we already went through Copyright Claims done twice in two years with some of our videos from Holiday Matsuri. His partner, Professor Oak, are known for doing Pokemon raps and puns as well. Heck, they even did a rap battle towards their fave consoles which were of course the Nintendo line versus the Sega line. Stellar did ask which one I was on and since I had my Tri-Force goggles from my Link cosplay, Nintendo despite playing both systems as a kid. They did do their Pokemon Snap rap and they did ask the audience to hold up pics of their fave Pokemon so they could do a Pokemon Go based rap. So, it was really improve rap this time! A nice variation this past night.

Sci Fried: Another band that I never expected liking and that is Sci Fried. These guys were surprised that they got voted to perform last night since they were more underground but the crowd had spoken and I could see why! These guys do rock/metal music based on many sci-fi properties such as Alien, Lord of the Rings, and did one song based on the bosses’ point of view in a video game! These guys were amazing and wishing they would open for Traverser because they would fit with their sci-fi sound. Also, I did suggest these guys to Omni Expo to perform next year when they return to the Florida Mall hotel! I would love them to rock the Main Events stage that Friday or Saturday night!

Geekapella: We left during these guys’ set since Gondras was starting to doze off but we did catch them a bit. This group is a ten person group that does geek-style acapella music. I tend to like Rockapella and this was a nice new group that did video game and anime acapellas. They did the first theme song from Attack On Titan and then went into “Still Alive” from Portal, and one of them did their own version of “Creep” which is not that bad! If we saw these guys again, hoping it is the entire set and I would vote for them again next year if we get another press opportunity.

Rating: 5 Star PawPrints Out of 5! This event gets the highest on our rating scale since it was entertaining and very fun! Nerdc cre music has been taking a big rise and a lot of people have been enjoying it. Will any of this music end up on this month’s Top 10? You will see soon! In the mean time, you should give Ongaku Overdrive a big hand for putting on this event even having it moved at last minute which was still a success! I am hoping we get to do press again next year for it and even thank Manime Man for letting us do it! Also, check out the bands above! You won’t be disappointed and give them a like on their social media and stay tuned for our footage from this year’s event!

What is next? Well, I have something special in line for everyone and of course I do have the Top Ten Songs of April for you guys! Stay tuned!

Conventions: Omni Fandom Expo Cosplay Masquerade Contest 2017!

Hello Shiquers and welcome back to Nerdy Shique Universe! Now it’s time to close the coverage from Omni Expo!

Cosplay Masquerade Contest

The last round of videos and the best is saved for last are our videos from the Costume Masquerade Contest! I realized whe idn’t take any photos of cosplay this time but this to make up for that since the really good cosplays didn’t come until Saturday. I know if you saw my last two or three videos I was cosplaying as Link from Legend of Zelda but as a Pokemon Ranger and did enter this year.

I have been in three contests which happened to be the one during MegaCon in 2011 as Hatsuharu Sohma, the Cosplay Runway and Costume Contest from Holiday Matsuri as my ice gym trainer and Lucy Heartfilia! This year was something that Gondras went a step beyond and that is create my prop again. The story behind my costume was all thanks to my Pokemon Ranger cosplay design which you saw in my Eric Stuart Interview video may years ago during MythiCon. I had the idea in my head when Pokemon X and Y came out and introduced a new type of Pokemon known as Fairy Type which I thought what happens if I were to crossover Link and have a Silveon to represent Navi! I didn’t start gathering some of the things until AFO 2015 when I got my Silveon but was short on funds so I had to wait a bit, which I wanted to do it for the 20th Anniversary but didn’t have it in time and did my water trainer instead. So, when I got my work experience money it gave me a chance to get the parts I needed to get the costume made in time for this year which happened to be of course the hat and goggles and my dad did do my patches with the parts we picked up at the Thriftko in town and Salvation Army since I couldn’t find a pair of shorts that fit me right until I went there. What Gondras added was Ageslash but in the Master Sword design! You will get to see him with it since that took a month to complete and using the materials along with it! Oh right, I did forget one thing I didn’t mention that I purchased and was a first for me to wear was prosthetic ears! During Holiday Matsuri, our friend Chibi mentioned there was someone in Artist’s Alley with elf ears and Gondras pointed out that Link had them and I picked up a pair after the convention due to my skin matching issue. At least I got through that fine and the costume was a success! People liked the goggles and even people at Auntie Ann’s saw me and had following looks as I passed heading back to the con. Also, what I didn’t realize while doing this costume in time was the release of the Nintendo Switch and the release of Breath of the Wild.

So, onto the costume contest! Oh man, the entries were amazing! The judges admitted they had a hard time choosing which they had to get the head of the convention for help! You will see all the entries and see who won in part two since the camera split the video. I congratulate all the entries including the only one with a skit which was Echantress from Suicide Squad.

Will I do Link again if you guys are wondering? Yes I will and hoping for MegaCon since PikaBelleChu did invite us to her Pokemon event that weekend so let’s see what happens! Now enjoy the video!

That is it for this post! Next convention on our Universe LineUp is MegaCon 2017! We are happy to announce that we are doing press for this year and hoping to get interviews with some of the big names so stay tuned to our Twitter and Facebook for announcements of what will take place and yes I will be doing my Convention Spotlight by the start of April so check back!

Also, next I will be doing my Top Ten Songs, so also stay tuned for that!

Conventions: Paul St. Peter Inteview from Omni Fandom Expo 2017!

Hello Shiquers and welcome back to Nerdy Shique Universe! I am back guys with my computer! You know what means! I finally get to post my coverage on here at Word Press from Omni Expo! So what is first?

Interview with Paul St. Peter: I bet you’re wondering what happened to the opening ceremonies for this year, right? Well, we didn’t go to it since we couldn’t find it on the schedule and of course I had to enter to costume contest and of course there were panels that afternoon on top of it. Go to the convention review and you will see what panels we made it to.

So, to start off the videos it will be our interview with Paul St. Peter. We didn’t get a chance to interview him last year since we didn’t know who he was at first until we went to his voice acting panels and even his Pirate Curses panel, which we do recommend if you see him at convention near you! When we heard that he was coming back for another year we had to make it up for last year and got to sit him down in the Shique Hot Seat and see what he was up to! I would say keep watching Dragonball Super because he will be in it soon from what he said in this interview so keep your ears open!

That is it for this post! Next I will be putting my panel video since I hosted one this year! Stay tuned!

Also, we have a Facebook now! So follow it here

Convention Impossible: Omni Expo 2017!

Hello Shiquers and welcome back to Nerdy Shique Universe! Sorry for being away for so long. I have been having computer trouble and sorry for not getting any of the posts I was supposed to do such as favorites and my top fave songs for last month. I will try and get around to that but first I have my first Convention Impossible of the year and it is on Omni Expo!

Disclaimer: This review is based on opinion and observation of the writer of this blog. Please respect the thoughts and feelings in this review!

So, this past weekend was Omni Expo and man it went by fast and I bet you’re wondering how it went. Well, it went pretty well despite it moving to a new location due to the International Palms being renovated, which I will start with that.

Otel: This year’s location did have to change which it was originally supposed to be at International Palms but due to a new company buying it out and doing renovations on it, the con did move to a new location and that was the Florida Mall.If you haven’t been to this place then you are missing out. It is a huge tourist place even when it comes to its hotel that is built in. It was nice and the area was kind of small for the lobby but it did connect to the mall which you can find a pair of doors leading into it. I am not sure how the rooms are situated since most hotels here in Orlando are either in different buildings or just in one single building, which to me it was a single building. It was pretty convenient in my book. The convention was set up very neatly where you have Artist’s Alley and Con Registration in one room and then Vendor’s Room and Panel Room 1 next to each other and then Main Events around the corner in another hallway and then when you go to the left from the hotel entrance you will find more tables for costume contest sign ups, Panel Room 2, and both of the gaming rooms for card games and video games. It was pretty simple to navigate especially when you want to get to Vendor’s and the Artist’s Alley areas. I do like this layout but wishing Panel Room 2 was placed closer to the other stuff because it was pretty small and notice that not much traffic went there unless you were in the costume contest on Saturday due to pure-judging happened in that room. There were some panels in there too which included mine. I hope they hold Omni again at this one again because it was a lot more easier to get food. Unlike the other locations which were the Worldd Center, Rosen Center, and the Double Tree near Universal, we had to travel to get food even though the World Center did improve on their food court and can’t wait to go back to Matsuri if we get press again this year. With Florida Mall, you can either go to the cafe area in the hotel itself or walk into the food court and the mall for the food stands which makes it very convenient! Some places did give discounts like the sushi place which we didn’t get a chance to go since that was a place that gave a 10% off discount to people with a badge or wrist band. Most of my food money went to A&W unfortunately. Still, veery nice and also nicer that one of the businesses in the mall did promote themselves at the con which was called Pop Cult, which Gondar visited back in December. Hoping this convention is held at this place again because I do love the convience and easy navigation!

Vendor’s Room and Artist’s alley: I decided to combine the two since this year there were really talented artists and sone were even in thenVendor’s Room. One one happened that that included Angry Mask Man which he had masks that he had made. Some of the masks include Majora’s Mask from Legend of Zelda, Princess Monoke’s Mask, and many more. I asked him how long it took and he said it is a process for him to make them since he had to make molds for them. If you search for this guy on the net, I would recommend. Another vendor that I was happy to see was the woman who made the 3DS cases and she did post on the Omni Fandom Expo Group on Facebook about her stand and that she had phone cases and since I did get an SE I decided to see about My Little Pony ones. I almost got thee Pinky Pie one at first and she didn’t have Twilight Sparrkle one, neither in princess form nor regular form, but I did get one with Rarity because it was pretty and shiny! I will get a new 3DS XL case since thee one I got from her broke. Hoping I get online or at the next con we go to. Another vendor that caught my eye this year was something I never thought I would find and that is an indie makeup brand and they are known as Surreal Makeup. Her makeup is all natural and cruelty free, which is awesome for anyone looking for a new cruelty free brand, and she has brought a lot of her eye shadows and some of her lip items. I almost thought about getting a lip item but her eye shadows really got my attention since I tend to horde eye shadows left and right. The one I got is called Shooting Star which is a very sparkly one which I didn’t know she included a toothpick to poke with (which Gondras told me about after putting it on but did fix that when I got home by poking the hole in the middle) and according to Gondras I poked like I was gong to join Jem and the Holograms. You need to be careful but she suggests that you poke a hole in the middle of the sifter and tap out the shadow which will last longer even while cosplaying. You can find her site at http://www.surrealmakeup.com for all her stuff! I highly recommend and if you are going to Rupaul’s Drag Show this year, she will be selling there as well. Tell her that I said hi since I left my business card. Also, my thoughts about something like this is that some conventions should definitely have more makeup brands or at least indie ones to sell since we do love cosplay and finding awesome makeup for it, even on a budget, it would be nice to get something on the spot! We did find many other vendors in there such as the t-shirt guys who made shirts for such shoes like Biker Mice from Mars and Swat Cats, even one that sold a Power Rangers items that included the Dragon and Tiger daggers that Tommy used when he was the Green and White Rangers in Mighty Morphen. I was happy to find a better key ring for my Lucy cosplay and it was the actual key ring and just put the keys on it this morning. Can’t wait to go back to a con as her or the newer Pokémon crossover costume I want to do of her.

Guests: Since we covered the vendor;s we do have the Guests as well. The autograph area was slightly smaller and I can see why since thee room was a bit small. I do like the idea since there weren’t long lines to worry about Ike most conventions. We did interview Paul St. Peter which he remembered us from last year. He did do his usual voice acting panels which included Voice Maker and Voice Perofrmer, which we only went to Performer on Sunday. We did attend his famous Pirate Curses panel of course and did enjoy that like last year. Gondras did participate this year and got a compass as his prize. We also got to interview Josh Martin and Chris Rager together since they have been in Dragonball which was fun talking to them about vvoice acting. I was happy that Chris was in Fairy Tail and you know me that I love my Fairy Tail! I did get to meet Brian Muir on Sunday and was great talking to him about some of the movies he had worked on and glad to know that he is enjoying his time being retired from it and Rogue One as his final work. Hoping to meet him again in the future. We did reunite with Bruce, No Ordinary Balloon Guy, he did had a Hercule made for that weekend for Chris Rager and awesome that he still makes balloon stuff, he even made people something when asked. Gondras thought about interviewing him but we need a quiet area but seeing how busy the weekend became the time flew out the window! Always next time Gadget!

Panels and Events: Holyy moly! I think this year we went to more panels than last like with Matsuri. Most of the really good ones took place in Panel Room 1 which included Tokusatsu panel that I knew Richard would enjoy and he did and even helped with some of the info. Someone did say that he should’ve co-hosted with Crows which I agree. I did check out the Lolita 101 because Vivi attended one by the Central Florida Lolita Society back at Metro in 2014 but didn’t like it as much since the information was either “Yes, you can do this.” Or “You can but you must do this and this.” This one was done by Mesumi Sempai and she was very informative in her presentation especially with the history. I did ask about shopping from Angelic Pretty which the panel Vivi went to mentioned that Angelic Pretty is the only place everyone should shop from The answer I got was it is not necessary since people are on a budget including me and good thing is we can buy things pieces at a time which I do like and we do have a lot of resources out there to buy from which is also true, this bit was also mentioned during the Cosplay Tips and Tricks panel later that night and done by a cosplay guest which she gave a lot of good pointers too. If only some of these panels on this stuff were done more like this. If you are wondering, I had no audience at my panel since there were a lot of other panels going on and it was in Panel Room 2 but it will be on YouTube for you guys which is a good thin. I hope to take it to other conventions because there are people who may have heard or not heard of assistive tech and apps that help, heck when I demonstrated Be My Eyes, Nerdy Shirts was surprised that an app just like it exists. You will see how it works in the video!

The biggest event that is always the thing everyone loves is the costume contest. I did enter as Pokémon Ranger Link and man it was fun to do. It was also the first time I wore elf ears ever since he did have pointy ears. I had to get a new bottle of Spirit Gum and it was fun explaining what it was to my dad while at Party City looking for it. The costume construction was supposed to be for last year but couldn’t do it due to being broke but until my work experience that was when I got the parts for it and got it done in time for this year! The judges liked the Ageslash that Gondras made in the Master Sword colors and the patches and scarf bits my dad did the sewing work for. Too bad I didn’t win, even Nerdy Shirts thought there should’ve been a “Best Costume Donee With a Budget” award which I agree and the same time a “Best Crossover” award since I did crossover two of the best video game franchises together. The judges did mention that they had a hard time choosing since they saw awesome costumes even an Enchantress cosplayer from Suicide Squad! The most impressive was a kid doing a Attack On Titan scout with the weapons pack which hee made on his own which he got the Youth Category for.

There was one event that was a first for us was the Script Reading panel where the vice actors get to read scripts and it was entertaining. My favorite scripts that were done were for Guardiansof the Galaxy, which Paul St. Peter did an awesome Rocket Raccoon, and Monty Python and the Holy Grail which had the Holy Hand Grenade scene!

All in all, the panels and events. I think going to a lot of them this time does give a lot to do.

Verdict: CONVENTION COMPLETE: I know that this convention tends to get an ACCOMPLISHED but this year it felt more the second one and that is a COMPLETE! The hotel was awesome and the events were great but there were many other things that can take place during the time. It did feel like it had a slow start due to the new location and not a lot of people came due to the sudden change in location but it was still fun in the end.

Needs for Improvement: I feel like the real need for improvement is trying to get the word out there a bit more. When I talked to someone I knew from Metro that was going to be in town he didn’t know that Omni eye was taking place since it was March again. I know I did Convention Spotlight before my computer went out of order. (I am using my IPad and a Bluetooth keyboard I just received in the mail, that is why you are seeing this post!) but there should’ve been more word going around despite the change of location, as in finding more ways of getting the word out there. I did remember during year one there were fliers passed out and that should’ve been done even in the mall unless that was being done. If next year’s con happens at the same place, hoping a lot more people go to it since this is a great con and Paul St. Peter wants it to keep it going and said for the fans to make it the best con in Florida, That is why press is also here for too.

Another improvement would be having Panel Room 2 closer to the other main rooms because it felt like some of the panels, including mine, weren’t getting much attention especially when people were going to for any panel in there. Plus, that room should be bigger. I felt like I was in a workshop almost. And glad that my claustrophobia didn’t flare up. Still, this should be closer to the other rooms instead of far away.

Well, that is it guys for this review! I am glad we got to do another year at this convention. Hoping we keep on doing it since we have contributed a lot as press for them and want to keep doing it and we still enjoy doing it especially with interviews!

What is next on our Convention roster? MegaCon! We are doing it this year so stay tuned for Convention Spotlight! Until next time!

Holiday Matsuri 2016: Voice Actors Supershow

Hello Shiquers and welcome back to Nerdy Shique Universe! Now for the last videos!

The Voice Actors Super Show!

The final videos is from one of the other events we had to cover with the Convention Staff Choice which made it really cool where the convention chooses events for Press to cover to do videos and/or photos and one of our events was the Holiday Voice Actors Panel that takes place every year and it was on Sunday. We did attend last year’s with Sean Schemmel, Grey Deloisle, Josh Seth, and Todd Habercorn and that was entertaining! This year we had Steve Blum, Mary McGlynn, and Todd Habercorn which made it funny and entertaining! They did have to make the audience do one question only when the Ambassadors come to them with a mike which worked out better than last year when there was a line of people at the mike and they asked more than one question. I did want to ask about Death Battle with Todd but since it was Holiday related, we did ask “What was your funniest Christmas Story?” It is kind of play off the whole “What was the funniest thing happened to you or a prank you played on your cast members?” during interviews which is my fave question of all. Again, I did feel like back at Ranger Stop when I made the room go silent when I asked about the “Buttery” gesture in SPD. (Video is still on YouTube) The three did answer and you will find them very funny and also Steve’s son, Jeremy, appeared at the convention! Yay! So, enjoy!

What’s next? Hoping the Cosplay Photo Gallery for this year since we did get a lot of pics! Hoping to get that up before next week when Matsuri does their press round up, if not, hoping before the start of 2017! Plus, we do have the Best and Worsts and Favorites for November and December!
