The Movie Quadrant: Hocus Pocus 2

R Hello to all of you beautiful nerds and welcome back from traveling the vast nerd universe. I am here for a new review and it’s a movie!

Hocus Pocus 2

Ever since I heard that they were making a sequel to the original after how many years, I was surprised since they could have done it a year after the original but Disney had to wait. Let’s get to the chase!

This review is based on thoughts and opinions from the lead writer of this blog. Please respect her opinions unless you want to be turned into a cat for the next couple of centuries!

What Is It About?

Becca is a teen that has been into witchcraft and has been collecting many objects related to the craft even has known of the legend of the Sanderson Sisters ever since she has been living in Salem. On her sixteenth birthday on the faithful holiday of Halloween, she is given what was supposed to be a replica of the black flame candle that brought the three back twenty-nine years ago by the magic shop owner who changed the old house into his shop. With her friend Izzy, they go into the woods to do their yearly ritual and light the candle to find that it was not a replica but a real one and the magical three, Winnie, Sarah, and Mary, are brought back and this time not only looking for the book that was given to them as children but to use a powerful spell that could cost Winie’s true treasure after promising that she won’t cast the spell. Now Becca, Izzie, and their estranged friend, Cassie, must stop the Sandersons from casting the spell.

Thoughts

With most Disney sequels, they don’t keep up with the original as in they tend to stray from it and become a different movie on their own. Some examples include the Lion King: Simba’s Pride, or not as great as the original like The Little Mermaid 2 as another example. This one did fit with the original for the most part since we did get to have some back story on the sisters since we hadn’t in the original. In the original we got to see how the Binks siblings got involved where Emily lost her life with the Light Spell and how Thaqary turned into a cat. In this one we got to see how they got the book in the first place, which I watched again to see if it was also audio described like this and then found it interesting how the sequel made it different. In the original, it said the devil gave Winnie the spell book you see but it was an elder witch that gave them the book when they ran into the forbidden woods outside of Salem. They also changed the bit about Billy Butcherson since they decided to point out historical inaccuracy, which does happen from time to time, and it was a running gag like with the virgin bits in the original.

I did find it interesting how they set this movie in more of the modern times where we have smartphones and other technology instead of keeping one in the mid-90s. Even though it would have worked back then, giving the story more of a modern twist where it passes the torch down to newer characters makes it easier to play around. Even though we didn’t get to see any kids from Max, Dani, and ALison which I would love to see if Max and Alison did stay together after the original or if Dani had kids of her own and try to look into the legend themselves but having new characters getting into in witchcraft themselves and having powers fits a bit more. It did play with the idea of the three witches being more powerful than just having one and having them as friends rather than blood. Yes, Winnie, Sarah, and Mary were great as who they were since Winnie did rely on them to help with extending her power and it went the same with Becca with Izzie and Cassieb when they helped Winnie in the end. I guess they are having the message of keep the ones close the closest that you may lose them one day, which was the message in the first one between Dani and Max since Binks did say the same thing to Max,

One thing I did have to mention that they did keep was the singing and oh man, I know Disney loves their musicals and they did call back to the original with the stage bit. First, they did have the three sing a song about them returning which was also in the trailer. You also hear it in the start of the credits as well and later you do hear them do “One Way or Another” by Blondie. RJ did make a point, he was watching this with me by the way, the song about them being back makes sense but how did they know the Blondie song? I did notice throughout this movie that they were blending in with the era than the first. With the fist movie they were out of touch due to being from the 1600s and don’t know about what had changed since then such as the roads, candy, and even Halloween costumes. In this one, they just blended in such as being in Walgreens with Becca and Izzie looking at the skin care items and meeting their fans and having a selfie with them. I guess Disney decided that “One Way Or Another ” would fit with the idea of this movie since I did have the Sabrina the Teenage Witch soundtrack for a little while before selling it in a garage sale and I did remember Melissa Joan Hart did sing that song there. I guess I am just overlooking that but Bett Midler did do well singing it after not being in this movie for many years. She was a singer a while back after all.

Rating: 4 Star Paw Prints Out of 5

Even though I did like this movie, I did have to knock it off by one point for the musical parts. I think this movie could have done just one and stick to it like the original when they did “I Put a Spell On You.” But they did keep a lot of the original bits that they called back to which included the candle of course, the salt which trapped them this time, and did better with the Halloween bits by having festivals instead of Trick or Treating. To me, which I have been noticing, that has been a bit of a dying tradition since we didn’t have anyone come by last Halloween but people around work did appreciate my candy donation. Anyways, they did do a bit of a sequel bait and I am hoping if they are going for a third movie then they should not wait too long because Bett Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Catherine Nujinny are getting up there in age and we already lost some awesome actors and actresses along the way during some projects. I mean, Kingdom Hearts 3 is a big example since Leonard Neemoy did die years after they started working on it after Nimura decided to go and work on Final Fantasy XV which was a bad idea to do so which caused them to get a replacement once they decided to finish the game. I would say is that they either do it next year which would be the thirtieth anniversary or in 2024 or just leave it as is.

That is it for this review! I will be doing more reviews since I don’t have many subscriptions to cover each month. I am currently waiting on my Glam Bag to arrive and hoping that the USPS doesn’t lose it.  Not sure what is next but will think of something!

Movies: Alita: Battle Angel Review

Hello to all of my beautiful nerds and welcome back from traveling the vast universe. I am back and with a movie review.

Alita: Battle Angel

This past weekend Gondras and I caught the new

This movie takes place in the twenty-sixth century where a floating city named Zolem survives something known as the Fall. We are in Iron City where the story is told and we meet Dr. Ida where he finds the torso and the head of a cyborg girl in the trash heaps and finds out her brain is still in tact. After bringing her back to life and naming her Alita, Alita must remember who she was and know what she has to become and able to help her new father and her new love interest, Hugo, in order to survive in Zolem and fight any other cyborg. Aalita movie and it was due to Movie Bob reviewing it. I know Ghost In the Shell was not a success at the box office and some people were skeptical about this one and well I was all in for it because Heroine Worship by. Sarah Kune mentioned this title since the main character, Aveta loved reading this title when she was younger and compared herself to her. When I heard that this was going to be movie I was happy. I am going to do this review a little differently since I am an anime fan and have been one since nine years old, I am doing this from someone who has not seen nor read the riginal source material since I went in with an open mind. First I must do this!

Disclaimer: This review is based on thoughts and observations of the lead writer of this blog. Please respect her thoughts because they aren’t the same as everyone else’s.

This movie is set in the twentieth-sixth century where floating cities exist, well a floating city by the name of Zolem survived an event known as the Fall. People of Iron City dream of living there but the only way of getting there is becoming the True Champion. One thing that falls to Iron City is old trash and one day Dr. Ida stumbles upon a head and a torso of a girl with her brain intact. He takes her back and replaces her cyborg parts to revive her and she has no memory of who she was nor what she was and where she was during the Fall either.

After meeting Hugo, she starts knowing about girls being tragetted and killed on the streets and other many things like a sport that she starts competing in and other cyborgs trying to hurt her and Dr. Ida who has been a Warrior Hunter underneath and as she starts fighting for him and Hugo she starts learning about old memories of who and what she was, a warrior herself.

Thoughts: This movie was very good and despite its issues and somewhat of a mess it was cared for even with the source material. This movie was adapted from the manga and anime along with OVAs on top of it and like most movies being adapted from a cartoon or anime series crunching a lot of episodes into a two hours plus film can be an issue but this was done very well.

We have to thank James Cameron and Robert Rodriguez for doing a great job on this and having excellent teamwork on this. Cameron is known for Aavatar and Titanic while Rodriguez is known for Spy Kids, Machete, and Shark Boy & Lava Girl except this movie is beyond the scope of those movies Rodriguez has done. I have to say it was a great thing that the wait to do this movie was well worth it because if we had gotten it earlier it would have been a complete mess and not do well at the box office and we would not get any sequels. I think Rodriguez coming in was the better choice because he and Cameron did handle this with care and gave us something new and different and gave us something whole rather than a half assed mess. I wish these two would adapt the Evangelion as a movie or even the Rebuild movies into live-action or other anime films and series because they not only shown what happens in a post apocalyptic world to life with beautiful CGI but also characters that you can relate to.

Speaking f characters, the cyborgs were really well designed and loved how Gondras described some of them along with the audio description,, which did work for me this time, even Alita herself was well designed. People cracked on her for the eyes but when you look at a cyborg she is supposed to be a little doll-like and you see it with the other cyborgs taking on doll-like apperaances, even Zzapan wheere he always cared about his face for example. Then of course the weapons they use like the one cyborg who had mantis arms as her weapons. These designs are just amazing. Another bit is the CGI having a real quality to it. I think they had the motion cap actors take on that real look like an actual person walking next to each other. One example is the scene with Hugo and Alita together after her upgrade where he gives her a touch along her arm and she feels it and she feels it. I don’t know what kind of tech they are using but they need to pass it onto other fil studios because CGI in other works need some work. Or at least an overhaul. Not only that with the CGI, the fight chorography that was used in this film was amazing and felt like the audio description couldn’t keep up. You can tell that time was put into this film and was well taken care of over the years because this movie is an action flick so we need great fight scenes. I did say it take on the original material very well.

Cons: I did talk about the pros and now for the cons. We did notice that some people had issues with the ending taking too long than it should be. Yes, there should be some great stopping points but this is a film that brings people into the world and introduces the characters and the villain like most films do. I have a feeling with how it ended that a sequel will be done with how much was put into it and did hear the manga is pretty long but I think they did a good job with what they put into it and did not do what Shamalan did. If you remembered Last Airbender and how bad that was a storytelling mess without personality you can see this movie was far from that.

Some people did have issues with the whole telling the story through action and having exposition being explained. Got to remember that this is being adapted from a manga series and anime and anime does a lot of that. For instance, using one of my favorite titles, Elfen Lied with explaining what Lucy was in the first episode. As in using just using the creepy atmosphere of coming at you and the other characters as she escapes and taking out people to show her power says “Oh crap! She is a threat! Run!” With Alita, in one scene when she remembers her first piece of her past she starts fighting when the situation got rough. This spells out, “Oh crap! She fights too?” I would say if you are not into anime, go into this movie with an open mind and remember that this story is told with action and points explained that are imperative to the sotry.

And now Hugo! People had issues with him as a character because how he shows up out of nowhere as the love interest. Sometimes this does happen in a lot of movies, even anime sometimes shows some random person being the random love interest. Look at Titanic with Jack showing up and that romance between him and Rose starting. I did love it how Hugo introduced Alita to chocolate because she was acting like a girl at that moment and even more around him as the film went on until the climax. This does show how a cyborg can act human besides the robot parts and it gave Alita a nice piece of innocence. I do agree with Bob that this does fit in the idea of being meant for teenage girls being in the audience even if they haven’t gotten into the anime in the first place. Heck, you see that rebellious side to Alita throughout the film even when she wanted to go against Ida in order to protect him. I did love how she acted towards the guys on the Motor Ball court and I do like that nice futuristic spin on basketball.

Rating: 4.5 Star Paw Prints Out of 5! It was hard to see about giving a four or five but I met in between. This was a film to enjoy because of not only its visuals but the storytelling as well. I am glad that Cameron and Rodriguez partenred up for this project and came up with a great finished film. I am hoping this film does well at the box offices because it does a bit of sequel bait to work with and I want to see more of this movie series. If this film does become succssful that would bring more anime films to live-action. I was hoping Voltron being one of them and if that happened I think it would be interesting taking on Legendary Defender. Not only that bring that long-awaited Evangelion film since that was thrown out years ago. I think some of the studios that done the adaptations should take notes because of how well done it was put together despite the ending being clunky but of course how the characters interacted with each other. As in, Alita acting more human and how she interacted with the cyborgs, Ida, and Hugo even her hatred towards Vector. I am also thinking that Cameron and Rodriguez should keep working on more projects due to how well they cared for source material and used a big budget to create something golden. That is why I am giving this movie the Star Paw Print of Approval with how well it was made, how they used their tech to create the CGI, and so much more. Hey, can we get an Alita world next? I am just saying!

Well, that is it for this review! Man, it felt good to get back to writing movie reviews! Next will be my Omni Fandom Expo Spotlight! Stay tuned guys!

Bests & Worsts of 2018!

Hello to all of my beautiful nerds traveling the vast universe! It is time for the final post of 2018!

Bests & Worsts of 2018!

We are at that time again my friends and that is the bests and worsts moments, beauty items, movies, and so on of 2018! This year was a life changing year for me so let’s start with that!

New Job & New Home in a New Location! Well, last year I said 2018 was going to be my year of getting a job and hoping to move out and guess what? I just did that in November! I did get interviewed for the Adaptive Tech Instructor in Daytona and I got it! I have been a student at the Rehab Center I’m teaching at and glad that I got to move up and doing it in something I wanted to teach and that is Adaptive Tech which I use on a daily basis especially with writing Nerdy Shique Universe by using JAWS. I knew I had to also move out for this job because I can’t drive and got my own place and loving it! Me and Gondras are sharing it so he will be moving in with me so we can be a full on couple, well engaged couple here together. We will be commuting back to Orlando for conventions since we do have Omni Fandom Expo in March and also Ranger Stop if we get another press badge since we did enjoy that one too. There are conventions here in Daytona too but haven’t heard from them much. I have to get back in contact with them since one is a writing convention and there are some authors on my Net Galley shelf that will be appearing there. How do I like living on my own? Well, the good news is that it made my mental health a lot more easier because it was stressful living in a big city where the job market is still unsure about hiring blind people even in call centers and I did try going for volunteering at the Lighthouse but that didn’t go through as planned for their Adaptive Tech Department. Glad I am working in it and plus I have changed dramatically since I did take a Self-Esteem & Adjusting to Blindness class which helped me understand more and understand myself when it comes to adjusting to being blind. Plus, getting to cook my own food feels a lot better too since I did go through back seat cooking with my parents and it caused some stress too, even when I made potato salad and wanted to follow the recipe but mom wanted me to do it our way. I did get to make her black beans and it felt like home even with the Adobo seasoning for my pork chops. Plus, I get a bigger closet too which made me happy along with smaller furniture than what I had in my old room at my parents’ place. Not only that, transportation is also better here because you have more bus stops to get to and the paratransit is way better, not only that the Lift drivers are very friendly! So yeah, I am at a better place in life, I have a great job teaching, now I can write my book in peace as well since I did re-start it again. I know, this is becoming annoying when I should have finished this year. Well, living on the coast will help me out since my first two books were done while I was a student. Let’s cross our fingers!

Being Certified In JAWS! Next is another great aspect this year and that is being JAWS Certified! I have been using this software since 2010 and figured being certified in this software could help me get into the field of tech more and I was right about that. The test was hard and I had to study a lot of things from the Help Topics to knowing what the commands were, especially when they tested more on the Laptop Keyboard Commands versus Desktop, and so much more. I was glad to pass and now waiting on my certificate so it can be in my office!

Getting a Chrome Book! Speaking of tech, I did get a Chrome Book for myself this past month because I wanted to see about the operating system and since my mom returned hers after having it for a few weeks, I really wanted to see about its built-in screen reader after seeing the ones on display at the NFB National Convention. So far so good it has been working out because of how the commands are like JAWS but with a different modifier key. I have to play around more with it since I am creating a Chrome Book workbook on Excel to help me and any other instructors.

Getting to Go to the NFB National Convention! I finally got to attend the NFB National Convention for its last year in Orlando, which it will be in Vegas next year. It was an amazing opportunity since I went with the Jernigan First Time Scholarship, I tried for National Scholarship but didn’t get it and now holding off on my Grad Certificate at the moment, and got to enjoy the convention. I even volunteered at the Braille Book Fair to get my interaction with younger kids better since I wasn’t doing it in the school system at the time. It was fun and getting to talk with a mom about how she is trying to get her child’s dexterity back after a stroke was even life changing too because it was sad hearing about it but I did suggest some things since Braille does help us out. I did get a new watch from this convention along with a few other items and got to meet the many other chapters in the United States and knowing that we’re not alone in the universe. I am going to try and join the chapter here in Daytona but due to how busy it has gotten unpacking and getting things for the apartment, even working, it will be a little bit before I join since being in the NFB shows that we can self-advocate and do have family and friends to help us. Oh right…let me save that for later!

Bests

Now to start with the bests since there are tons of awesome things going on this year and I have to give it to a lot of people and moments!

Game of the Decade: War Frame! First is Video Game of the Decade and I give it to War Frame! All this year Gondras has been playing this game and it is also up my alley with story since it’s a science fiction story where a metallic virus turns humans into robots known as War Frames and you as the Tenno pilot these robots to travel across the Solar System to take on the threats that want to take over. You also get more War Frames along the way, especially one where it was from a secret event story that dealt with one who had darkness take over. Now the game is where you go to Venus and get to explore the now icy planet to meet robot dwarves and even have hover boards. This game is very pretty and now that we have a new tv in our living room, yes good to say that, it will look even better. For anyone who has a Nintendo Switch, it’s going to be available for the Switch! Now you can play it on PC, PS4 and Xbox! Amazing work!

Movie of the Year: Avengers: Infinity War Part 1! Movie of the year goes to Avengers: Infinity War Part 1! We all know that it has come down to this where we see the Infinity Gauntlet is completed and now the Avengers must come together along with the Guardians of the Galaxy to take on Thanos and his gauntlet. Can’t wait what Part 2 has to offer since we are getting Captain Marvel next since she will be important in that part!
Runner Ups: Black Panther and AquaMan! Can’t forget these two since they have appeared this year. Black Panther was another great movie from this year since we got to see an African-American superhero take center stage for his origin story in this movie. It also became a hit at box offices back in February and schools even took kids to see this movie as a field trip which was even more amazing. While AquaMan, on the other hand, was something DC should have done like with Marvel and start with the origin story movies before diving into the big team up films. I did enjoy Jason Mamoa as AquaMan and we get to see a mix of villains which made it more interesting. Nicole Kidman did a great job as his mom on top of it. Too bad we’re not doing MegaCon next year, interviewing Mr. Mamoa would be pretty sweet! Speaking of interviews!

Interview Opportunity: Apl DeAp from the Black Eyed Peas! Yes, another moment this year was getting to interview a Grammy winning artist and that is Apl DeAp from the Black Eyed Peas and it was during the NFB National Convention. When I first heard he was going to be performing at it, I had to get the interview and what surprised me was that he is visually impaired himself. He has Nystagmus which causes severe near sight and he did tell his story behind it which you can still see here and over on our YouTube Channel’s Interviews Playlist. It felt great to meet him and brought us another musical artist to our channel since we did interview Traverser not long after. If you get to meet Mr. DeAp, just say hi not wave because he did explain it’s hard for him to see it.
Runner Up: Trying Out Skype Interviews with J. Michael Tatum, Brandon McInnis, and Traverser! As you know being at a convention you can get busy as a guest or even as a musical artist your schedule gets packed before a show so that is why we went one step beyond with our interviews this year. We used Skype to interview J. Michael Tatum and Brandon McInnis, since there schedules were full during Holiday Matsuri 2017, and Traverser, since they were returning to the stage after three or so years. It shows how we got over the obstacle of not being able to interview people face to face and hoping to get more in 2019 since I have a list in mind for the year.

Anime: My Hero Academia! Speaking of Tatum! It is the Best Anime Category and this year it goes to My Hero Academia! GOndras did start watching it himself and then shown it to me and man it is one of the best dubs I have seen so far! It is like the movie Sky High but what if it’s an anime and your main character, Izuku, is not born with a Quirk and has one transferred to him by his idol, All Might! I can’t wait for the next season because the last season ended on a pretty good note.
Runner Up: Overlord! I have to hand the Runner Up position to Overlord because it is an anime series that deals with a video game you have never thought to be better than Sword Art Online. Why would I say that? Well, in Overlord, you get to see new worlds being built, characters going through certain adventures that help them get better in fighting, and not only that take over towns like a usual fantasy RPG. Plus, with the main character, Momonga, we not only see him in the game but see his player in the real world thinking about what to do next and how to interact with the party. I would say check this out if you can!

Male Performance in An Anime: Justin Briner in My Hero Academia I decided to include this after watching the anime and I give it to Justin Briner because he gave a stand out performance as Deku in My Hero Academia. He is a new voice to my ears and I have heard him in Team FourStar’s Final Fantasy VII Abridged as Cloud and trust me I was thinking to Cloud watching MHA A. I hope we get to interview him either over Skype or in person at a convention.

Female Performance in an Anime: Monica Rial in Shimonetta! I know, it’s a weird title but when Gondras shown me this one on Funimation Now I never thought it would be hilarious especially with Monica Rial as Ana. I bet how many takes it took for one certain line, if you are of age, watch it!

Best Supporting Role in an Anime: J. Michael Tatum in My Hero Academia! Final anime related thing and that is best supporting role and it goes to J. Michael Tatum when he played Tenya Ida in My Hero Academia.

Makeup Brand of the Year: Cover Girl! I decided to give this year’s Brand of the Year to Cover Girl because this year they made a huge change from being a brand that wasn’t Cruelty Free to one that is now is and Leaping Bunny approved! Brands are trying to get away from animal testing and glad to hear that Cover Girl is the first even close to the end of the year, especially many months after Nars has joined in being sold in China during the beginning of this year. Hoping Cover Girl leaving China and being on this list can be an example to others and saying, “Join us and be Cruelty Free!” Now China is fighting to have better ways of testing at the moment, so more news on the horizon!
Runner Up: Urban Decay! 2018 has been a huge year for Urban Decay since they have released a lot of collections and discontinued a beloved product and that was the Original Naked pallet. Trust me, it was sad for me to hear since I was doing my Urban Decay Look Series on the YouTube Channel. But they have released many pallets this year that have been a success so far and they are the Beached Pallet in the summer, Born to Run, Naked Cherry, and Elements for the holidays. Now they have announced Naked Reloaded which is the Naked pallet but with new packaging and shades. Plus, the Naked Honey, and Naked AF soon to join the series! Will 2019 have all three? We will have to see!

Collection of the Year: Wet N Wild Flights of Fancy! I have to give this award to the Wet N Wild Flights of Fancy Collection because it has been a really good collection that was released during this year. Not only it had new items like a lip scrub and baked blushes but it also had donations from each box set go to the Audubon Society to help with a species of hummingbird that is native to California. A great cause for a great box! Let’s see what WNW brings to 2019!

Set at Electric Daisy Carnival Vegas 2018: Alan Walker! Even though I can’t take a flight to Vegas every year for EDC but this year’s videos shown a lot of great sets but I have to give it to Alan Walker’s set! I like his music the most because it has a science fiction feel to it and of course I did create a makeup look to his song “Ignite.” His newer stuff is pretty good too and I highly recommend. If you can’t make any of the EDC events this year, you can always catch it on YouTube!

Worsts

I do have a few worsts this year since I felt like not that many had happened but I will get to it!

Moment at a Convention: My Cane Breaking! I never had this happen before and that is my cane breaking at a convention. Someone pretty much stepped over and got caught in my cane and caused it to crack. Still makes me mad that people are blind to blind people and well, thinking we’re are like Terezi from Homestuck which we’re not, the cane is real. Hoping this year with cons I don’t experience this again because it’s not fun meeting an annoyed mobility instructor at work, even though it was not my fault because I was using proper cane etiquette and the person just shown up out of nowhere.

Makeup Moment: Being Makeup Shamed! Apparently, this year there has been a bit of makeup shaming taking place, more recent actually and I became a victim of. Seriously people? When did we came down to this? I understanding roasting someone for laughs but doing it with makeup is not cool. I did hear there were Cosplay Shaming Groups but there are groups for makeup and a newer one came up and someone from the What’s Up In Makeup Group did use my pic for it. I don’t get why we feel the need that this should be okay when makeup is a creative outlet for a lot of people, especially me. At least the person got kicked out for it because in the group you are being watched.

The Most Okay Movie: Solo! I had to mention an Okay Movie but not necessarily a Worst Movie either and that goes to Solo. It’s the movie that tells the story about how Han Solo got the Millennium Falcon and we get to use Lando get his butt kicked for it. It was not that bad and it did get bad reviews for it, when you look at it, it was competing against a Marvel movie at the same time. We did enjoy it.

Game: My Hero Academia! I have to mention this one because Gondras was looking forward to this game but it didn’t come out to being the one he was hoping for and it was the My Hero Academia game. It was supposed to play like Ninja Storm where you got to play the different story arcs but the only ones you get the arcs from the Stained arc through rescuing Bakugo! Even though those are nice arcs but Ninja Storm started from the beginning so you could play through them while here it’s the best arcs being played. Not only that, they didn’t use the English cast for this either. The Funimation dub of the show is one of the best dubs they have done and wishing they recorded this with them because they picked a lot of great actors to be in the dub. Sorry My Hero Academia, we prefer the anime.

What’s Up For Us in 2019? Well, another year at Omni Fandom Expo and just in time for new promo material. Even though we have business cards but we need to step it up and we will get it in time for this year’s convention. We aren’t sure about other cons but shooting for another year at Ranger Stop and of course new content for the YouTube Channel including new playlists to come! Also, I just re-subscribed to Boxy Charm and glad to get it back! It will be separate from Ipsy so stay tuned for our new stuff in 2019! Until next time everyone, have a safe and Happy New Year and see you in 2019!

Favorites: May & June 2018

Hello all of my beautiful nerds traveling the vast universe! I am back with my Favorites and this time it’s May and June! Let’s get started! I do have one non-beauty favorite and a Meh Favorite! Let’s see what I have.

Meh Fave: Urban Decay Primer Potion in Nude! I know everyone fell in love with this but I feel like it is not my fave except it’s a meh! It did work pretty well on my lids and worked better than the Wet N Wild Primer, which I will be talking about next in my Un-Favorites area, it did not glue my lashes shut but I felt like it was going into the lashes a bit. I know I am supposed to put not that much of this product and use the wand but I prefer squeezing it out into my fingers and apply it a lot more easily that way. I feel like this was not for me, I think I prefer my NYX Eye Base in the pot along with the MAC Paint Pots because I have an easier time applying those than primers in the tube and the lip gloss looking container.

Meh Eye Shadow Pallet: Marvel Avengers Infinity War Pallet from Hot Topic! I tend to love the eye shadow pallets from Hot Topic but this is in my Meh category. I did kind of put it under “Regrets’ at first because people on What’s Up In Makeup thought it looked muddy with the shadow look I tried first with the orange, the green, the brown, and others but when I re-did the look with Soul, which is the orange I put it all over my lid and just did more of a neutral eye that way. I thought the shadows were okay but too powdery after realizing it. I may keep on using it but I prefer the unicorn ones and the Galaxy Shadow pallet I got last year.

New Eye Shadow Pallet: Urban Decay Beached Pallet! I finally got this pallet after hearing so many things about it and that is the Beached pallet by Urban Decay. Yes, 2018 is all about the Urban Decay and not sponsored, sorry! I think they’re slaying it this year because of the new pallets they have been coming out with. Anyways, I got my Beached pallet after collecting my points at Ulta and used them on it and it was worth it! All thanks to doing a look with the teal, the deep blue, and the Blaze in this pallet I ended up attracting Hash Tag Sunglasses to it. I love Urban Decay and their shadows have been killing it and I can’t wait to complete the Naked collection since I have been collecting them, I have to keep my paws off my Naked Heat pallets, lol!

New Shadow Quads: Wet N Wild Flights of Fancy Eye Shadow Quads! Along with new releases by many brands, Wet N Wild released their summer collection last month and it’s called the Flights of Fancy Collection for the hummingbirds that are native to California. I got the full set and it was beautiful, I do have a not so favorite but these shadow quads are pretty much what Wet N Wild has done after discontinuing the trios. I think it was a good idea to do that because not only they re-formulated Walking on Eggshells but they added another color to it and it gives us more freedom to play with the quads. I realize I haven’t used the trios as much which I am trying to hit pan on so I can let them go. I used in my video the Hasta La Costa Quad and it is a green and blue quad which is gorgeous! I am thinking of using one of the others in the future since the Braille labels did pop off, which sucks but hey I can use them one day soon. Maybe I should use the rose gold one next week for the NFB Convention, who knows.

New Lip Gloss: Wet N Wild Lip Glosses! Along with those quads, Wet N Wild also released lip glosses! Those things are great except you have to kind of build them up due to the applicator. Usually with most lip glosses I do one swipe or two and I’m good but it feels like you kind of build up with two swipes on the bottom and top but still these aren’t sticky like most lip glosses. Not even sticky like MAC.

Lip Scrub: E. L. F. Lip Scrub in Mint! I finally got to try the Lip Scrubs from E. L. F. Normally I would use the ones from Lush but it’s been forever since I got any lip scrubs from them since now the drugstore is starting to create their own, even Wet N Wild made their own for the Flights of Fancy collection which seriously should be permanent! At first when I got the scrub in my package, this was when they did free shipping a little while ago, I thought it was weird due to how it looked as a lip stick tube. When I started using it, it felt weird at first because of how compact it is together and then realized I had to run it across a few times to make it work and then wipe it off with a cotton round. Easy enough and it is hard to be tempted to eat because I love mint! That is the reason why I went for mint. I definitely want to try the other ones that they came out with and they aren’t as expensive as Lush or the coffee one I have made with coffee from Ulta, this one is good!

New Translucent Powder: NYX Pressed Powder! So, I went to NYX last month and to get a new powder to get for my under eye because I felt the LA Girl one was running out faster and I felt that there was not much in the pan and realized I liked pressed more. So, I did find out that the NYX Setting Powder is also pressed and got it in Translucent. I love it! I can see why people recommend this powder to use as a setting powder and it feels as lightweight as you wear it.

New Mascara: NYX worth the Hype Mascara! So, I reached my first round of points at NYX and ended up getting a free tube of the Worth the Hype Mascara as a sample size and I heard good things about it from one person and when I got it, I was hoping it would not be flake city like Better than Sex and guess what? It wasn’t! I carry this in my makeup bag and whenever I spend the night at Gondras’ place and don’t hand don’t have any makeup I turn to this! It makes my lashes look so full! Way to go NYX, I want the full size now!

New Blush: The Baked Blushes by Wet N Wild! Speaking of WNW earlier, another item from their Flights of Fancy is the Baked Blushes. Sorry WNW, you need to make these permanent! Milani has had them for a long time! Anyways, these blushes are gorgeous! I think I use the nude one the most because it was a shade you rarely find as a baked one, you do have Apricot in The Middle, which I still need to get and try out, these definitely need to be permanent and they are very good in blending them on your cheeks.

New Setting Spray: Wet N Wild Matte Setting Spray! Yes, a lot of Wet N Wild but they have been getting my money for any of their face items because I used to use Almay and getting the foundation and powder was costing a bit much so I switched to Wet N Wild’s stuff since it’s cheaper and I like the wand part more than the pump. Anyways, I decided to try the setting spray from Wet N Wild and I prefer this more because the NYX one I’ve been using the Demi Matte formula was breaking me out in certain areas of my face but mostly around my cheeks the most. I think I’m a little too sensitive to their spray and I even felt itchy around the areas on my face after a few hours. The Wet N Wild doesn’t do that to me! I think it’s the ingredients that they use, I know one ingredient is Vitamin E if I remembered and it doesn’t cause me to itch nor break out. I think also that the NYX one was not reacting well to the Clearasil products I’ve been using. This spray has been working out beautifully and now on bottle number two! I am able to find this spray easily at Walmart and even on Ulta’s website and it doesn’t cost an arm and leg like most sprays. I also like how it smells, it smells sweet!

Not-So-Favorites:

Wet N Wild Eye Shadow Primer and Primer Water Spray: These two items are not my favorites at all when it comes to makeup! I am so sorry Wet N Wild here are my reasons. I mentioned above, the Wet N Wild Photo Focus Eye Shadow Primer was the thing I wanted to try for so long! SO LONG! But it sucks! It glued my lashes SHUT! I hated how it felt like glue and it was thick as paste as it came out of the tube, I had to go back in for more dollops of this stuff and it glued my lashes shut. I am sorry, that is not supposed to happen when you put on any eye shadow primer even from a pot. I had to toss it, shadow primer is not glue Wet N Wild! And the other item, I tried loving but couldn’t due to how the spray nozzle stopped working correctly and that is the Primer Water that came with the Flights of Fancy collection. I was hoping this would last me for a while and I loved how cooling it was while spraying it and it did set very well but as time went on the spray nozzle would not work! I tried shaking it and it would still not work. It was like it worked once and would not work again! I take back that I want it permanent, I think I will stick to the Hydro Touch I’ve been using and I am planning to try out the Dewey Primer from Wet N Wild and see how that compares but sorry the primer spray does not get my love. I did toss it too.

Non-Beauty Faves!

Book: Tiffany Blues by. M. J. Rose! This was a very enjoyable read by M. J. Rose and it is called Tiffany Blues. If you read my review, you could tell I loved every page of it and I didn’t want to stop reading it because of how beautiful it was. I did do a makeup look based on the Tiffany Glass colors you heard throughout the book and I felt like I was brought to the 1920s to when Jenny was there doing art. If you have not read this book, I highly recommend as an excellent read!

Another Book: The Dream Keeper’s Daughter by. Emily Colin! Another book is the Dream Keeper’s Daughter by. Emily Colin. I didn’t want to leave Kindle alone with this one either because of how it pulled you between past and present to see how the two main characters, Max and Isabel, go through the times they were in with Isabel trying to live her life while Max is getting her mom back. I would say read that one too if you’re interested.

Recipe Favorite: Pickle Dip! I know what you are thinking, “Say what!?” you can make a dip out of anything and pickles was an interesting dip to make because you had many things going into it besides dill pickles, you also had cream cheese, garlic paste, and other things and came out to have an interesting mild taste. I would say if you find the recipe from Publix, which is who I got it from, use pretzels because they go the best with it.

Movie: Avengers Infinity War! Next is movie and you already know! Avengers Infinity War was a great film except the ending. All I have to say is, “Damn it Quill and Thor! You had one job!” I won’t spoil the rest and I can’t wait to catch any other Marvel movies even if it means on Netflix.

Series: Series of Unfortunate Events! Okay, I wasn’t expecting to watch this because Nerdy Shirts and his brother asked GOndras to be in a video with them reacting to episode 9 of season 2. Gondras couldn’t get past a certain point in Season 2 but I kept watching. All I have to say is that I never read the books but this was a great too series since they had Neil Patrick Harris being Count Olaf in this one. You never thought he would play creepy very well until you see this and it helps with his Broadway musical background because he does sing the theme song and it’s catchy! I can’t wait to see what Season 3 holds for the Bodalairs since the final episode of Season 2 revealed a big thing and I can’t reveal it. If you want to see the reactions on this series, make sure you check out the Super Reaction Bros.!

Top Five Songs!

1. Ignite by. Alan Walker! First on my list is a song by Alan Walker who performed at this year’s Electric Daisy Carnival in Las Vegas! This year it was in May rather than June to keep people cool at night. I never heard of Alan Walker until I saw a video of his set and it brings an awesome beat but this song called, “Ignite,” got me loving his music even more. I do like his first song, “Fade,” from his early days but this one fits the sci-fi theme we pull on here, I would so use this as a theme song if YouTUbe doesn’t get mad.
2. “Odd Future” English Cover by. Jonathan Young: Next is another cover by Jonathan Young and it’s the fourth My Hero Academia theme song called “Odd Future.” I I’ve been loving this anime a lot and thank you Gondras for showing it to me and need to watch more of but this is one of my fave songs from that series.
3. “Dirty” by. Sevendust! Oh yeah! My Southern Metal boys are back and this time with a newer song! Apparently they have released new music and this song is called “Dirty.” It kind of goes back to their more metal roots since the Seasons album had more of a softer sound and their song, “Unraveling” was also pretty soft but do like it but this one it calls back to what I knew Sevendust for and kept it up!
4. “History Maker” Cover by. Nate Wants to Battle: I know this is not new but I can’t stop listening to it because it always get in my head, plus May was all about meeting with my destiny of getting my job offer, getting to go to the NFB National Convention, and of course being accepted at Northern Arizona. I am following my dreams people!
5. “Lion Skin” by. Hands like Houses: Even though there have been other songs that have been appearing on my I Heart Radio but this one was unique out of all the music that has been on there lately. I’ve never heard of this band but if I had then I wouldn’t have looked at their info but this song is a really good one. Almost reminds me of “Arrow” by Gackt in the beginning but then goes into its own song.
Well, that’s it for this bi-montly favorites. I know a lot of Wet N Wild was on this list because they have been in my makeup collection even more after using their powder and foundation. I may be adding Clearasil next time since the face wash I got was not a face wash but it was a face mask but I have the actual face wash so I will be giving another two months before I add them to my favorites since so far my skin has been getting better and people noticing in my pictures. So next time will be my review on the NFB National Convention since I need to take time to read some books! Until next time! And follow us on Twitter @ Nerdy Shique!

Bests & Worsts of 2017!

Hello Shiquers and welcome back to Nerdy Shique Universe! Happy New Year all and it is time for the Bests & Worsts of 2017! Man, this was a fast year and man I have things to say in both the Bests and Worsts!

Disclaimer: This list is based on thoughts and opinions and observations of what took place this year! Please respect with what I thought and thank you!

Bests:

Interview: Chris Rager and Josh Martin from Omni Expo 2017! Man, this year was a lot of drama when it came to interviews but I feel like I had to mention one in this category and that is my interview with Chris Rager, who voiced Hercule Satan, and Josh Martin, who voice Magen Boo, from DBZ. This was the second duo interview we’ve ever done in the NSU past since we have done it with the Dino Thunder rangers at Omni 2016 and when I found out that Chris Rager and Josh Martin were going to be guests this past year I thought to ask Gondras to see about doing another duo interview since the last we have done was a success. It had fun doing this one actually because I got to have my talk show moment with these two and we did have the couch and I felt like Wendee Williams, the Talk cast, and so on interviewing these two. I would so do a talk show or join one since talk shows are my guilty pleasure during certain times in the year. I do call my interviews the Shique Hot Seat and will keep it calling that even with Omni next year! I also have to say where the staff placed us for interviews was also great since we do enjoy the privacy and not so much noise since we do have the Florida Mall areas underneath. If you haven’t seen the video, I would go into our archive or on our YouTube channel directly.

Email Interviews: Linda Ballantyne and Katie Griffin from Sailor Moon! As you know the problems with us and MegaCon interviews so I had to take it to Twitter to see if anyone wanted to do email interviews where I send the questions to a voice actor or actress and we get the answers and I was happy to do it with Katie Griffin, the original voice of Sailor Mars, and Linda Ballantyne, one of the original actresses of Sailor Moon. These two were major sweethearts and understanding with what happened since I felt upset about not having that one on one with them. One thing I do love about doing the Shique Hot Seat in person is more interpersonal and you get to actually see them in the camera and interact with me. I am so glad I did start doing videos but Mega said no so the next best thing and I did thank them in person and gave them lanyards I made themed of their Sailor Scouts. I even wore my Sailor Moon R broach. I did read the interviews and did enjoy their answers too, you will see what Christina V. said when I asked if she had met Katie since you have read Katie’s response about Christina. So stay tuned for that! I still thank Katie and Linda for doing that for me and I am very grateful for it.

Movies: I bet you are wondering why I put “movies?” Well…this year we only saw five movies that were really awesome and it is hard to pick out and I will say the reasons why I chose them and not in particular order either.

1. The Last Jedi: First is the new Star Wars flick to be released this year and we just saw it last week. I know normally we would catch it first day but Holiday Matsuri was on opening day. This movie was awesome and it does show how the torch gets passed onto the next person to be a Jedi. Yes, the story was clunky to some but how they told it was very well done and it flowed. I never thought playing around with telepathy like they did would take place in a film like they did. And we got to see the Yoda puppet return for this movie and I missed that about Episode 2 since they did him in C. G. I.! Thank you Disney for bringing the puppet back. Also, I have to give props to Little Kuriboh for this because he was the one who did the audio description! Nerdy Shirts did tell me about it and when I listened to it I did hear snippets of Yami and Kaiba a little bit in the description but they did pick the right person for this since he did get the dramatization right, heck I even went wide-eyed from the suspense during the description. Way to go man!
2. Thor: Ragnarok: Next is Thor: Ragnarok which I have to say was the strongest of the Thor flics in the Marvel universe. Dark World was funny but they cut down on Chris Eckleston’s character during this and the first one was fun but to me the third one was the best because you do have the call back to Dr. Strange and also bringing back the Hulk and following the apocalyptic myth in the Norse myths. I did love Cate Beckinsale as Hela, I know it is supposed to be Hel but this is Disney after all, but she did a very good job on this character after her character in the Underworld series. And the comedy flowed a lot better in this one than the other two because as you all know that comedy has to flow not be forced nor take over the action most of the time like the second one. I can’t wait what awaits Thor and Hulk in Infinity War with the other Avengers!
3. Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2: I have so many words to say but this one did continue Guardians very well since we did get to see what happened to Quill’s mom in the first and then see what happened and who his dad was in the second one. This movie made me laugh the most and I thought I would go into tears from so much comedy even though the part that had me laughing the most was when Baby Groot brought a person’s toe to Rocket’s and Yandu’s cell. Sorry to say, with this one, I didn’t recognize most of the songs except for “Surrender” by Cheap Trick to be honest. Still, this was very entertaining and a great start for the summer movies! I can’t wait to see the Guardians’ role in Infinity War too next year since they are showing up.
4. Wonder Woman: Finally a movie that Warner Brothers did right! I am so glad Zack Sneider didn’t touch this one with his writing nor directing because with how they did this movie was perfect! Yeah, it is supposed to be in World War II but this did work out in the end. Too bad they didn’t continue this movie making in Justice League because I heard how the movie was not that great.
5. Spiderman Homecoming! And finally, Spidey’s back! We were happy that this film brought back the whimsy and comedy we loved about Spidey in the cartoons and a sweet relief that Marvel has him back and can do the proper films with him. Seeing the Vulture as the first villain made sense because with most of the villains besides Green Goblin and Doc Oc, we hardly see any origin stories for them either. We are hoping to see Scorpion step up in the next Spidey film since it seems that way with the last credit scene during the movie. So glad Spidey is back!
Best Stan Lee Cameo: Being With the Watchers in Guardians Volume 2! It was hard to choose which of the Stan Lee cameos were the best since the one in Thor and Guardians were equally good but I would lean towards him being in Guardians Volume 2 because it was a surprise one and that is him telling things with the Watchers. I couldn’t hear what was being said due to everyone around me plus Gondras laughing their butts off with Yandu and Rocket speeding by in the distance but it makes sense for Mr. Lee because he does go into tangents even for his age. If you see the videos from MegaCon with his panel, you would know!

Makeup Brand of the Year: Wet N Wild! Next is Makeup Brand of the Year and I give it to Wet N Wild because they blew other brands out of the water with their seasonal collections especially the Unicorn Glow and Midnight Mermaid Collections this past summer and fall! Sorry Makeup Revolution, Too Faced, Tarte, and everyone else who jumped in the unicorn and mermaid themes this year but Wet N Wild blew you guys out of the Last Unicorn’s Forest and Ariel’s home with their stuff! The Midnight Mermaid collection was a major success with how much of the bundle sold out and some of the items sold out on the WNW website and of course the Unicorn Glow selling out on Ulta’s website. Out of these two I do think the Unicorn Set happened to be my favorite overall because I got to play with more highlights and I did do a video series where I created looks of a Goth Unicorn, a Colorful Unicorn, and a Smoky Unicorn and had fun with all of them! I may have to come back to one of the highlights and glitter pigments when I do my Rarity eye look for Omni Expo.

Liquid Lipstick: Wet N Wild Liquid Lipsticks! Next is all about Liquid Lipsticks and I give it to Wet N Wild too because of how they came into 2017 with new products and that included a collection of liquid lipsticks! You weren’t expecting how well these will do, heck I had a hard time looking for Rebel Rose which is the pinky rose shade in the collection. They even did metallic colors for Midnight Mermaid with a coral, a burgundy, a blue, and a green to show their gothic side. I did hear they did do some for their Fantasy maker’s line for Halloween but couldn’t find anything but these lippies are amazing to have in your collection!
Runner Up: NYX Lip Lingerie! I have to give the Runner up slot to NYX for their Lip Lingerie line because of how comfortable these things are especially during a convention. They stay put and they even go on very evenly when you have a lip primer on. I do enjoy these and they are not as expensive since they are at a drugstore price.

Makeup Sets: Ulta! Next is Best Makeup Sets and I give it to Ulta! Ulta has improved their makeup game over time since their last sets I picked up a few years back. The sets I got were Love Makeup, Beauty Treasures, and Be Gorgeous and these three are amazing except for one part of the Love Makeup pallet where I feel like they should’ve changed the color selection before releasing because some of the shades are not as cohesive but at the same time you can get a look with most of them. The one I do love the most is Be Gorgeous since it has a variety of colors to play with and you can come up with a ton of looks and it did get me into color correcting after all. Way to go Ulta and keep up with the good work!

Best Actress: Gal DuGat! I know I should’ve mentioned this in the movies arena but this list is in no particular order and this year’s Best Actress goes to Gal DuGat who played the title character of Wonder Woman. I think Warner Brothers picked a very good actress to play Diana because of how strong she made her to be. I wished they made her better in Batman vs. Superman or not use her at all and just stick her with her own movie but the actress pick was pretty spot on.

Best Actor: Dave Bautista! It was hard to choose but I give it to Dave Bautista who plays Drax in the Guardians movies because with this character he played a very awesome and awkward badass! Plus, he has to go through hours of makeup in order to play this role! Still, I give it to him especially how awesome he did in Guardians 2!
Runner Up: Jeff Goldblum! My runner up slot goes to Jeff Goldblum because it was hard to say who gets this slot, him or Dave? Reason why Jeff is in this category because of his role in Thor Ragnarok and he did amazing for his part. I know everyone is hating that he didn’t get the blue makeup treatment like the actual character but he hit the personality and you did get to see him have a cameo dancing in the credits of Guardians 2!

T. V. Season: Doctor Who Season 10! Best season of a t. v. series for me goes to Doctor Who because this ended Capaldi’s run in the best way possible even with the Christmas Special! I am still wishing they continued the part of the season where he goes blind but there is always the new doctor to play around with for next season and the seasons after. I and Gondras did like how they called back to the First Doctor especially with the last arc with the Cyber Men and bringing a past version of the Master on top of it. I can’t wait to see what they do with Doctor 13!
Runner Up: My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic Season 7! I bet you are wondering why? Well, this season did continue where it left off with the last one with Starlight Glimmer taking on the ideas of friendship all thanks to Twilight Sparkle and I was hoping they continue with her because knowing and my feeling is that she may be the next in line to have Aracorn powers like the princesses. Who knows if Season 8 may show that if it does happen. I did like and wasn’t expecting that they would talk about Star Swirled the Bearded and his companions who help form the first Elements of Harmony which I wish they talked about that more in all honesty because I felt that came out nowhere but it did show what had happened to him and his companions. Now hoping Season 8 would continue and I am thinking that the main six would take on teachings from the first Elements of Harmony for certain things like making AppleJack stronger or Rainbow Dash more faster or something. Who knows!

Fave Crowd Cosplay: My Link from Legend of Zelda but as Pokémon Ranger Link! Final category in Bests is my Crowd Fave Cosplay and that goes to my Link cosplay! This costume was two years in the making because I did start getting some of the things and needed to wait due to funds not being that high. I did finally finish getting the parts last year and getting the costume together in time for Omni Expo this year and man it was awesome especially with the Ageslash prop Gondras made! People were surprised by how well it looked in the Master Sword Coors and Zelda elements especially with my patches which shown the Tri-Force and the goggles too. Plus, I even worn elf ears for my first time since I never had and hadn’t used spirit gum in the longest time. Still, everyone who this cosplay loved it a lot!

Worsts:

Meh Movie: Power Rangers Re-boot! I know it is weird to see me mentioning this one but looking back at it but Power Rangers was an okay re-boot. Yes, they did have different people for Zordon and Alpha but I feel like I was missing the original Mighty Morphen even though it was cheesy 90’s t. v. but we grew up on that. Another thing is that Gondras pointed out is that the pink ranger’s costume had too much pink to it that it almost looked magenta and not pink. I guess they wanted to match the dark elements? Still, it was a meh movie.

Convention Press Experience: MegaCon Orlando 2017! I have to be honest that doing press for MegaCon was not as great as I thought. Yes, they had so many panels to cover but I am still wishing to do interviews with some of the actors. I am kicking myself for not saying that I was blind when we could only interview attendees, cosplayers, and comic book artists but it is due to being kicked out after the work of getting the passes in the first place and I felt that they didn’t also want to listen to it either nor give valid reasons even though the reason I got from Tampa’s Press Head was they only give interviews they felt deserved it. Okay, seriously? We have done this work for many years and interviewing someone as big as Stan Lee is someone’s dream, heck I wouldn’t mind to interview Danielle Panebaker when she was added after seeing her on Sky High and some other stuff on Disney. I know with cosplay, we did interview Riddle but.reason being is that I have to know their work in order to interview them and that is why it was easy for me to interview Riddle and if you want it to count, R. J. Heady since I did love the show Face Off. Also, with the huge crowd…it would be hard for me to ask attendees because there are times when people do get uncomfortable being asked things or give an answer that is not as great or just run off. And comic book guests…you know my situation! Sorry MegaCon, we won’t be coming back due to this experience and I feel like with all the work we have done, it feels like we can take our work to other places and new heights. I mean Omni and Holiday Matsuri still have us do work at their conventions.

Makeup Product: Anastasia Beverly Hills Sub Culture Pallet! I had to add this one on here because so many people were in an uproar with this one and that is the Anastasia Beverly Hills Sub Culture pallet! I have seen so many bad reviews on this pallet because of how much shadow it poops when you dip your brush in. Yeah, it not only becomes dusty with product but it poops it. I am glad I didn’t get on the Anastasia shadow or highlight kick because the…in my honesty…brand doesn’t interest me. I can get really good brow products from the drugstore, shadow pallets I love from other brands in drugstore and high end, especially Urban Decay and Makeup Revolution, and of course better highlight pallets like the Strobe of Genius pallet from NYX but Anastasia doesn’t strike up any interest in me getting anything. Maybe the Moon Child pallet but I found similar shades in Wet N Wild’s and Nyx’s highlight pallets already. So when I saw all the reviews on their Sub Culture pallet, I was surprised! Yeah, people say you can work with it but it is way too pigmented and with shadows like that it is hard to work with, I don’t see that much fall out like this one with my L’Oréal Infolluble Shadows. Not only that, the owners were telling people you aren’t using it right until they found out the reason why it was the way it was is due to how the machine pressed each shadow. Sorry to say but need to improve on that. I did hear the Prism pallet was better.

Okay, looks like that is it for this year’s list! 2018 is going to be big and hoping so because Omni Expo announced Josh Seth to be a guest this year and I am still waiting on the press application for it and hoping next year to have a new panel for it too. New posts to add to the Word Press side on top of that, especially the technology side! New costume to be designed, and hoping! Hoping! I finally get something started my access tech career goal because 2017 was a sit and waiting game for me and 2018 is where I need to spark something!

So, with that, have a safe and Happy New Year everyone and see you in 2018!

Movies: SpiderMan: Homecoming!

Hello Shiquers and welcome back to Nerdy Shique Universe! Today, I have a movie review for you all! First…

Disclaimer: This review is based on opinion and observation from the lead writer of this blog! Please respect her thoughts and opinions and spoilers might be ahead!

Title: SpiderMan: Homecoming

Synopsis: We catch up with Peter Parker after the events of Captain America: Civil War where he has the suit that Tony Stark has given him. Even though he is under watch by Happy Hogan and has a few locks on his suit, he finds out there is something od going on in his neighborhood where alien weapons are being used to rob places by a man known as the Vulture. Peter has to get to the bottom of this case and prove that he is the hero that Tony Stark is looking for!

Thoughts: I have to sey that this was a better SpiderMan film! I am not saying it is the best since I did like the first two Sam Ramey films, especially the second one since that took the story to a newer level but this one was better than how bad the Amazing SpiderMan was. How so? First of all, I am glad Marvel took back Spidey, well some of the rights since Sony still has the rest of it but this vilm had what Marvel has done with the other films and made the story much better. It didn’t just do the origin story since we all know what had happened to Peter from the Ramey films. He did answer his friend’s question by explaining how he became Spidey since he catches Peter climbing the ceiling when he got back from patrolling the neighborhood.

What I did like was that they didn’t just go into the big bads of the SpiderMan universe which happened to be Green Goblin and Hob Goblin if you have been fans for the longest time and that and they also didn’t rush into Dr. Octopus either. They just started with Vulture and then did a origin sotry of some of the villains which we got to see Shocker as well working with Vulture to get Spidey off the trail for a moment which is a good idea. I would say Michael Keaton as the Vulture was a good choice! As we all know he played Batman in Tim Burton’s films and he can do a really good villain. I did like ghow the costume was described to me, which Gondras had to describe to me due to the transmitter for the audio description wasn’t working yesterday so we got free passes again, since I heard airplane sounds from Vulture and it was described to have not only robotic wings with one of the Chetari cores but also hydraulics in the arms and legs. I don’t know who was picked for costume design on this movie but they did an awesome job especially with the newer suit Stark was going to give him in the end.

Another thing I did like was how Tony Stark put the different protocols on Spidey’s suit from Civil War in order to figure out how to use it which he was able to break the code and start training for real. The names are hilarious which were Training Wheels and Baby Monitor which does make sense since Peter is supposed to be a young teen and he doesn’t know what he is getting into as a hero. Even though in the Ramey films we always knew the phrase “With great power comes great responsibility.” Ihe message I got is that, “The true power of a hero comes within and not just inside a suit!” Because Stark said towards the final fight, “If you can’t keep the suit then why have it in the first place?” Which does make an interesting point because throughout the film Peter was relying a lot on the suit from Civil War rather than just on his own instinct and he wanted to prove that he can fight crime than just be a kid out patrolling and shouldn’t be watched all the time. Yes, he did make a few mistakes but that does show in a lot of heroes and he did get back up, even from under a collapsed building! This movie shows that you have to earn your heroism rather than just having it handed to you for free since being a hero is not always easy. Look at the first Iron Man film, Tony had to earn his heroism at first before he became the one who saved the world by almost dying in a portal and another example is Ant Man in his first film where he was a thief at first and ended up becoming a hero after taking out Yellow Jacket by saving his family and was seen as a hero afterwards. So, Spidey is not the only one who had to earn his heroism.

Now, hoping Thor Ragnarok is better than Dark World and doesn’t have a argument match between brothers like the last one.

Rating: 5 Star Pawprings Out of 5! I know it seems a little high but to me it does deserve it. It shows what Peter does in a normal day and how he becomes SpiderMan as the movie progresses. He did play the hero detective pretty well by trusting his own instincts in what it is going on and it gives the villains a bit of backstory and shows how they become each villain rather than starting with Doctor Octopus and the Goblins off the bat like Ramey did and they didn’t give you too many at once like with Amazing 2 did and another thing that made this one different from Amazing is that the story flowed better! In order to have a cohesive story is not to put too much into one movie, work with one or two baddies or at least start off with how they get to their bad guy status! Then you have the warm up fights and of course the climactic fight towards the end and then end the story with completing it with characters by tying up their tensions and they either become friends again or hate each other. Unlike Amazing 2, which I heard, it was one big powerpoint presentation which I am glad that Marvel took the ropes in making the Spidey movie that we wanted. And yes, we did get Stan Lee in the movie, which Spidey is his fave hero from Marvel and I wonder since he is 94, how many more movies will he appear in since this past year is supposed to be his final year at MegaCon. (To tell you the truth, I am still happy we got to see that panel!) We have to find out since we are supposed to have another Thor movie, of course Black Panther is pushed back with Spidey’s return, and can’t wait to see what they do in that one!

So, that is it for this review! I am still in the middle of reading one of the other Net Galley books on my shelf. So stay tuned for that! In Spetember, I will be announcing my second book on YouTube and hoping to announce any other press and panel stuff for the end of the year! So, follow us over on YouTUbe if you can and follow us @ Nerdy Shique over on Twitter! Until next time!

Conventions: Tom Wilson Panel from MegaCon 2017!

Hello Shiquers and welcome back to Nerdy Shique Universe! Time to continue the MegaCon coverage!

Panel: Tom Wilson Q&A

One of the panels we have attended was for Tom Wilson. For those of you who haven’t seen or heard, who hasn’t, the Back to the Future trilogy you may remember this guy as the main bully, Bif! He is also in Spngebob as Flats the Flounder if you guys remembered that episode way back when.

Hope you enjoy this and his “Questions Song” since deals with the FAQs people always ask and he answers with it.

What panel is next? Hoping with the videos keep being uploaded, Brina Palencia’s panel from the first day is up next!

Convention Impossible: MegaCon Orlando 2017

Hello Shiquers and welcome back to Nerdy Shique Universe. MegaCon has passed and man this will be my most honest review, let’s get to it!

Disclaimer: This review is based on opinion and observations of the lead writer and producer of this blog. Please respect her thoughts and feelings, more like deep thoughts and feelings about this convention because it will be one huge honest review especially the results.

Location: This convention has been held at the Orange County Convention for many years but has been in multiple buildings. In most of the years I’ve been to this convention it was in the North Concourse and then one year or two in the South Concourse and now this year was in the North South Concourse. I know it sounds confusing but I am not done yet! Basically, the building is separated in North and South where you can cut through the vendor’s room to get to both sides until closing time when you have to go back out to get to either side. In order to get your ticket, you had to walk to the South side in the side to get your wristband, VIP pass, and the Press pass like mine, which was a pin on tag which you could also clip onto a lanyard. There was also the option for four day pass holders to receive their passes in the mail to ease the trouble of waiting. Hmmm, why not do that other cons? Anyways, so with panels, you had to go to either North or South Concourse areas to see the panels and how I saw it that the more comic book and sci-fi panels were on North side, not only that there were also the cartoon guests and video game panels on top of it, while the South side had the anime related panels and North had the gaming room for any gamers that need a break. Having the game room somewhere in the Concourse instead of the vendor’s room like with previous years, which that is next!

Vendor’s Hall: Or Exhibitor’s Hall for the volunteers working! It was …pardon my French…fucking huge! I never thought in my five years of returning I would see something this big! I thought the one during 2011 was big! Not only we had a lot of vendors, which we did find some sweet ones including Tee Turtle where I got my “Crazy Cat Lady” shirt (I know that is supposed to be for someone who is single but I do love cats and it had kitties!) Not only that, the Artist’s Alley was also huge since we were walking all over to find me some Dolic earrings since I didn’t have any while wearing my Doctor Who dress. Oh, need to mention the celebrity area! Not only it was huge but there was one huge, huge, HUGE area for Stan Lee! Gondras was only there for a day and he saw the humongous line of people and I was like “Oh f**k no!” If anyone has been on Splash Mountain, that line was way longer than that! I did meet Katie Griffin and Linda Ballumtyne in the flesh and did give them lanyards themed after their respective Sailor Scout. I did want to meet some of the other guests but we had to run to so many panels to get for the channel, which speaking of which…

Panels: This year was the only year at MegaCon I’ve been to the most panels. As said before, we had to go between the concourses to get to the many panels we have gone to. We went to Q&A panels for Brina Palencia, Mike McFarland (which I was glad to hear that he is also a Whovian and he has me wanting to watch Hitalia after knowing that he is Estonia and always hearing Todd Haberkorn as Italy.) Also, a panel with Amanda Miller, Brina, and Jamie Marchi, and went to Billy West’s panel Saturday night which was hilarious. I think the best panels I’ve been to all weekend were Stan Lee’s and the Tom Wilson panels! Stan Lee is of course the major comic book legend and without him we wouldn’t see the awesome Marvel movies. Too bad we couldn’t interview him because it would’ve been as entertaining as the panel but couldn’t do an interview, which I will get into detail after the Verdict. This panel was very good and we got to hear about Stan’s first visit to Universal and there was one tip that one person did ask out during the Q&A part was about his advice for anyone who wants to become a writer and that is: “Write what you like! All I hear about nowadays from writers is I write this book for this age group but what happens if you’re older than that and will you like it? Don’t write for anyone else just what you like.”

I will take that to heart since I have started writing fiction stuff and my second book will be out in September and just wrote it based on things I liked rather than others would like and that will be passed onto the next book which I am about to start to work on soon.

We did tape a lot of panels but there were two we didn’t get footage for which were the Flash panel with Tom Cavanah and Danielle Pannebaker who played Reverse Flash and Killer Frost because of copyright reasons and how they did talk about show stuff. I did find funny from the panel that Daniellle did mention to Tom how she was in Sky High and that his kids would love it and guess what they do and they always want to watch it. The other panel we didn’t get was the Q&A panel with Troy Baker and Nolan North due to coming in close to it ending. One thing I was happy with this panel was after getting off the phone with Gondras was that Troy mentioned how video games should be more accessible for blind people! I did cheer for it and I was really happy about it since there have been articles lately about blind people playing games, for instance this past week my buddy Stellarnan did put a link up about a Japanese boy who was blind since birth beat a rhythm game series and wrote to Nintendo to make more and they sent him a Braille letter thanking him for playing and that they will pass his request on. Another example is that there is a guy on YouTube that plays games and has his friends help with navigation, which the last game he did with his friends was MarioKart 8 for the Switch. I did write to Nintendo a long time ago about making a screen reader since I do play Pokemon (Haven’t opened Sun yet!) and it’s hard not being able to read the story and it would help. I will find a way of getting a new letter to Japan after this to get it developed. Anyways, I did thank Troy for it and he really wants to see more players out there even with a disability. This got me to ask Jennifer Hale and Ally Hillis during the Mass Effect panel about it and they said that we are at a time to have more inclusion and accessibility in games and they want to see more people game too. This gave me major hope and if it is possible to get the word out more then it can happen.

Don’t worry guys, Nerdy Shirts will get the videos up of the other panels we got so you can enjoy and I can put them into posts so you can see what I experienced. Which I will start with Tom Wilson’s panel since I caught that on my phone so stay tuned for that!

Verdict:

Convention: CONVENTION COMPLETE
Press: CONVENTION ABORTED!

I know it’s weird to do two different verdicts but this year after doing press this just once it is only once that we will do it.

Don’t get me wrong, I was appreciative for doing it but I felt screwed over as a small blog. Yes, the convention was great and the good thing was that we got to see panels but the truth was we had to be re-considered for this convention after being turned down. I was glad we did since we got to see Stan Lee’s panel and many others, heck the Totally Spies reunion as well. While Press itself is something we have done in the past but I feel like it needs to be worked on a lot more.

What do I mean by this? Well, I feel like the press form should at least mention requirements needed or wanted, especially for online media outlets. New blogs and YouTube channels are coming up and there are times when they want to do a huge convention like we just did and not only that MetroCon has been our first big convention we started with. Why go for the bigger ones? It’s because we are trying to build our resumes in order to do press for other conventions. We have done press for four years and have built it up and have done interviews, which I will mention that next, and have reviewed their events as time went on to show that we can actually do what we do. I even built our press kit in Powerpoint to show what we’ve done so far for press to show it. With a press kit or not, this would help big conventions and bigger conventions trust the smaller blogs along with major press outlets like local newspapers since the newspapers really focus on the event as a whole when YouTube channels or online magazines can do a lot more like we have done with Omni, Mythic, and even Holiday Matsuri which I feel MegaCon should have more trust in smaller outlets. Well, Orlando at least since we haven’t exactly done it with Tampa.

Next is interviews…::heavily sighs:: On the form, it asked about doing interviews and it mentioned how you can interview staff or the celebrity guests which we wanted to do it with guests of course. Then there was another question underneath saying, “What are the top two guests you want to interview?” At the time when they started doing guest announcements the two real guests that caught my eye or shall I say ear since I use JAWS were Stan Lee and Tim Curry and after being re-considered I did ask about that and was told not until April. We were turned down for interviews and I tried to ask about voice actors and was asked what we wanted and waited until they got announced and asked and then was turned down for that too and was told only cosplayers, attendees, and comic book artists.

Okay, I understand Stan Lee and Tim Curry are huge names and it would be hard to see about getting interviews but what about the guests? What is the real reason you won’t let us interview anyone else? That is what puzzeled me the most. I remembered during MythiCon 2014 where Chuck Huber was going to be there for two days and was given the reason of due to him being there for two days can’t find the time that would be easy to get an interview with him even though he wanted to do it when we told him what had happened. (Chuck, we owe you one so come back to Orlando if you can.) I felt like I was let down majorly about that since voice actors are our biggest thing and I bet you’re wondering “Don’t you cosplay?” Yes I do but here is the thing, when I do interview questions I base it on the work of those people which I research it first and then come up with what I want to ask and well since I can’t really see the work in front of me then there’s the problem. For instance, I was able to interview Riddle because I remembered her from Heroes of Cosplay and I did like what she brought to the show as a cosplayer and had fun talking to her. RJ Heady was easy due to how I knew his work from Face Off and makeup effects are my favorite and they were able to describe the work very well on that show since my vision was not as great when season two rolled around with him on there. So, comic book artists wouldn’t be the best place for me since I can’t keep up with comics due to being not able to read them and see them. I can interview authors that I have read since I can listen to the audiobooks and voice actors because I am able to hear the dub easily. That is why I took it to Twitter to see if some of the guests would like to be interviewed through email and was able to get Katie Griffin and Linda Ballumtyne and promote the convention as well, which I did forget to mention that when I got re-considered that the big thing of doing press is to promote MegaCon and that is what we do with our Convention Spotlight and Last Minute Convention Info since this year was going to be a huge travel year with other things going on such as Volcano Bay and Pandora opening at Universal and Disney. That is why I am treating conventions as travel now among promoting them.

I think that is it, so yeah, after looking at it, I think this will be the only year for us at MegaCon Orlando. We have other conventions to think of and of course the ones we have done press for in the past since we have had great experiences.

I believe that is it for this Convention Impossible! I didn’t try to bash on MegaCon, we did have fun but wishing that press would have been better in my book. I did get to ask questions if I were in an interview which you will get to see in our videos of some of the panels. I am glad that Troy Baker wants to see more accessibility with video games and I was glad to meet Katie Griffin and Linda Ballumtyne which you can still read those interviews! Too bad the Doctor Who companions cancelled since there is a new season of Legends of Tomorrow for Arthur Darvil to do but not sure why Jenna Coleman. Oh well!

What is next for us? My Top Ten Songs for May! Stay tuned!

Conventions: Last Minute MegaCon Info!

Hello Shiquers and welcome back to Nerdy Shique Universe. It is time for the last minute MegaCon info.

I know you are wondering why am I doing this now? Well, since MegaCon is our largest convention in town and people tend to get ready through the time between announcements like we are when it comes to press. I do have some updates that I have received in email.

Pulse Tribute Events on May 26th and 27th: First is that there will be Pulse tribute events during the convention. Everyone knows what had happened to us a year ago in June which was the Pulse Night Club shooting and we lost 49 people in that shooting which was even more sad. We will have a Orlando United Day starting this June but MegaCon will be having tribute events this year to celebrate the ones who survived and died during the horrific night.

PikaBelleChu Event: Our friend PikaBelleChu has invited us and if you follow her on Facebook, you may have gotten her invite to her MegaCon photoshoot. I am thinking of going as Pokemon Ranger Link since that cosplay got some love during Omni. It will be Saturday afternoon.

New Guests: Of course there have been more guests added as time went on and two of them you probably have seen my interviews with which include Katie Griffin and Linda Ballumtyne from Sailor Moon and other guests include Danielle Pannenbaker, Alice Cooper, Mike McFalrand, Troy Baker, Jamie Marchi, and so many more. Check the page for more updates and others probably added until the weekend.

Hotels: Knowing that these will be filled by the weekend, I would say if you are into getting a hotel room or bunking with people, do it now! Knowing this will cause a lot of booking along with the tourist season already starting for us. So, check any of the hotel websites or any travel sites for any deals.

Locations to Go to After Con Conquering: Like most people we do like to go around after our time at the convention and what else is there to do in Orlando? There is the theme parks, Disney Springs which you can catch the new Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2 if you haven’t and if you don’t want to travel that far there is also theaters at Pointe Orlando and at CityWalk in the same area as the convention center along International Drive. If you have someone who wants to shop their hearts out, you also have shops in Pointe Orlando, CityWalk, even Florida Mall, Disney Springs, and we do have our Belz Outlet, and many more. And of course our many restuarants at the Orlando Eye, Red Robin, and one stop if you can get to which me and Gondras recommend and that is Pao Gustoso in case you want Brazilian cuisine for an affordable price.

That is about it! In case you want more information on where to stay and where you want to go during the convention, you can look under the Travel link on http://www.negaconorlando.com and also any of the theme park websites on top of that. What is next? Besides our coverage from this convention, we will also have the Top Ten Songs of May! 2017 where are you going? And also, make sure you donate to our Go Fund Me, Nerdy Shique Universe Travel, so we can go to these conventions and expand our work!

Movies: Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2

Hello Shiquers and welcome back to Nerdy Shique Universe! So, we saw Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2 and man it was hilarious and awesome! Let’s see what I think!

Disclaimer: This review is based on opinion and observation of thn! Please respect the thoughts of this review and warning! Spolers might be imminent!

Synopsis: We meet up with Peter Quill and the gang finding themselves in a new adventure across the galaxy! This movie is set to the music of Awesome Mix Volume 2 where we get to see the secret behind Peter Quill’s family and who his dad is when we meet Ego, a Celestial and made his own planet. What we don’t know is that daddy is really not alright and will Peter surrender himself to his Celestial self or stay with his family of rag tag heroes and a plant?

Thoughts: I know it was cheesy of me to kind of quote “Surrender” by Cheap Trick with that but it does say it all.

Anyeays! This movie was HILARIOUS! We couldn’t stop laughing because of all the stuff that went on! I know there was a lot of serious things going on but the comedy made it better! Heck, my audio description made it better especially when Groot brought back a dude’s toe to Rocket and Yandu which I couldn’t stop laughing and coughing! What was even more priceless is hearing Drax reciting a Gurren Lagan speech! Gondras pointed it out and I was thinking, “I wonder if Steve Blum and Kyle Hebert were seeing the movie and realized what he said?” Or at least Yuri Lowenthal going as Simone, “HEY!” Or just laugh hysterically with everyone like we did.

Gondras did go MST3K and I even cued up when audio description said, “Groot used vines…” I tapped on Gondras’ shoulder and I said, “Groot used Vine whip!” He started laughing because I have a shirt from Aardvark Tees with that on it and should’ve said, “It was super effective!” I know we are all nerds!

We did have Stan Lee make his cameo but don’t want to spoil that for you guys! What was random was seeing Howard the Duck again and even more random in the credits Jeff Goldblum dancing in one of the pics. I guess they wanted to bring him in his Thor: Ragnarok costume as a way of promoting that Ragnarok is coming out this year and the thing was if SpiderMan: Home Coming wasn’t coming out in July then it would’ve been this movie and then Ragnarok but nope! We’re getting Spidey back in July! Hoping the Marvel version will beat the horrible Amazing SpiderMan movies since the guy playing Peter in it is better from what we saw in Civil War.

Now, will I get the soundtrack like with the first? Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm! I am not sure! I liked the first soundtrack and all but the only song I do still ove that was in this movie was of course “Surrender” by Cheap Trick. Let’s see what happens. I know we will be getting this movie on DVD or Blue Ray.

Rating: 5 Star Pawprints Out of 5! I gave this movie the highest rating because it was funny and enjoyable. Movie Bob thought that Marvel movie sequels don’t build up to the first except for Winter Soldier but to me this one was as good as its first! It kept the comedy except for one part where a priestess’ red carpet ended being stuck for a bit. Didn’t laugh as much at that but the rest it was something that was part of the story. Yeah, we did hear a lot of pop culture references but that is like the first where Gamora did refer back to her remembering Peter’s story and comparisons he used like in the first one with Kevin Bacon. It was enjoyable and it kept us and the entire theater laughing and did have a sad ending on top of that! Now I can’t wait for the third which the end credits scene did give us a look into.

That is about it for this review! What is next? Well, we will be doing the last minute convention information for MegaCon Orlando 2017!
