Beauty: Beauty Pet Peeves!

Hello to all of my beautiful nerds and welcome back from traveling the vast universe! Today, I’m doing a new post and it’s all thanks to Amy Loves Makeup on YouTube!

Makeup Pet Peeves!

Yes, we may have some as makeup lovers either on YouTube or here in the Blog Sphere. I do have a few myself because since the Beauty Community on YouTube has been kind of in two sections, the bigger people and the smaller people which is where we are in with my beauty stuff and our convention stuff, and well there are things that tick us off whether it’s the product or something as a big deal on its own. Let’s see what I have to say, but first!

Disclaimer: This post is based on thoughts and opinions of the writer of this blog. Please respect her thoughts and opinions of certain topics and not only that products that she loves and doesn’t love. Thank you!

Pet Peeve #1: Swatches Aren’t Everything! First pet peeve of mine is due to something and that is doing swatches on the arm with a finger or a brush. The thing is that lately Ms. Jacklyn Hill has been saying on social media that swatches don’t tell the whole opinion of the pallet due to the oils in our skin giving different appearances to an eye shadow or anything else that’s being swatched. This was posted after James Charles did a second swatch party type video of his Morphe pallet that is about to come out this month in time for the holidays since people thought he was faking them and he did quote what Jacklyn said. Yes, some of us are very oily and it can counteract with certain pigments but…BUT…the thing is that first swatch or few swatches of that shadow, that blush, even lipstick tells you how the product would perform patchy or not. A lot of companies are based on pigmentation and quality of that product and if something that doesn’t look right to someone who is looking at the swatch being done in a picture then it won’t be purchased. We are the consumers and we speak with our wallets as in our debit cards, credit cards, and cash. Even with Apple Pay and Google Pay we also speak! Not only that, I think it was Tati who mentioned years ago that a finger swatch and a brush swatch of a certain product is different from each other because yes some of us do like to put makeup on with our fingers and most of us prefer brushes, heck I am a brush person for my shadows due to sanitary reasons and ease of application, and the performance can be different like what happened to her with the shade Apartment in the Emily Edit Wants pallet where it came out patchy with her when she put it on with her finger. I did apply it with a brush with my pallet and it came out fine and built up to the pigmentation I wanted. Which brings me to my next peeve!
Pet Peeve #2: Pigmentation is Not Always There! Even though I can’t see whether there is pigment or not but I do trust reviews and swatches myself which does help me with purchasing of course but one thing to know is that there are times where pigmentation is not there, somewhat there, and “Holy crap! That’s pigmented!” The reason why pigmentation in a product is important when it comes to buying a certain product is that while swatching it should show up in order to see how well it will look on different skin tones and also the question is do we have to build it up to get it to where we want? One good example is the Emily Edit Wants pallet. Makeup Revolution is known for making eye shadows to be buildable like most other companies and I did remember how Emily did say these shadows are very buildable where you can have a light wash of color or just layer it on until you get to where you want it to be and a lot of people prefer their shadows or blushes or even highlights to be like that and having the right pigmentation to do that makes it more fun to blend into the skin. I know not everyone likes so light of a shadow that they have to pretty much blend and blend and blend until they’re not ready until midnight but pigmentation even in swatches is an important thing and sometimes it can be nerve racking when it’s not there or patchy.
Pet Peeve #3: How Companies Complain About Copying! I needed to put this on here because I did do a post and it’s still around. It feels like we’re seeing people still copying off of each other when it comes to creating makeup or a skin care product but it has been going on for many years and why are there complaints to this day? Not sure! I think people love to complain about it? Most recent offender was Jeffree Starr when people said his new Alien Pallet was a copy of Hot Topic’s Black Heart Beauty Galactic Pallet where there are twelve shades in the BHB pallet while Jeffree has eighteen shades, some of the colors are similar even with their names and so on. What really hits is the packaging! I did post on Dustin Daily’s video that this is still going on where drugstore brands are making their own version but they can’t copy all the way through as in all of the packaging and artwork and he did say it was a good observation because I pointed out how Kat Von D pretty much cussed out Makeup Revolution for copying…excuse me..”Copying” her Shade & Light pallet. Here is the thing, her artwork is unique to her since she does all the designs in a notebook and she is a tattoo artist after all and the only thing that would be hard for Makeup Revolution to do is copy her artwork so they probably did their own design for the pallet like they do with many of their other ones, like the Girls On Film Pallet when they first came to the United States. Latest is the creator of Fasally, sorry for the butchered name, who is known for the different essences even the Unicorn one and now many brands are doing essences themselves except the creator is complaining about how the Coke bottle inspired design is being copied by many brands. This is not new actually, I bet a lot of brands do similar packaging to other brands I mean even the Wet N Wild lip glosses kind of reminded me of the packaging of the L’Oréal Infolluble Lip Glosses from years ago. Seriously, stop complaining about the copying, it’s still going to happen and like I said above, we as consumers will judge with our wallets as in if we can afford the dupe then we buy the dupe or save up for the luxury version.
Pet Peeve #4: When Liquid Lipsticks Bleed Especially On Me With Colour Pop! This is one pet peeve I have faced especially with Colour Pop and that is the whole liquid lipsticks bleeding thing. I love Colour Pop especially their highlights and eye shadows but their liquid lipsticks they bleed like crazy on me even when I try using a lip primer. I remembered getting the Hello Kitty one in Ribbon a while back and that made me look like what if I was Harley Quin from Suicide Squad. I had to toss it and even though I love liquid lipsticks but why does Colour Pop ends up bleeding on me? The only one from Wet N Wild that bleeds is Goth Topic and I think I used it on top of a lip primer and it stayed put very well. I think the reason is that Color Pop just makes it way to liquid-like and it doesn’t want to stay, this is why I am just buying the other lip products I do like by them like the Lux Lipsticks and the Lip Glosses and also Lippie Sticks.
Pet Peeve #5: Saying One Brush Brand Is Better Than The Other, As In Better Than Sliced Bread! What I mean by this, going back to Jacklyn Hill right now, she kept on saying Morphe brushes are better than a lot of brands and it was overhyped for a while. I found it interesting since I saw here for the Tea and Tea Spill do a bit of a documentary thing and it shown her saying the same thing when it came to MAC and Sigma. I haven’t tried brushes from either brands but have from Morphe and they are just meh! Here is the thing in my own opinion when it comes to brushes and that not all brands are created equal. I have tons of brushes myself I have bought from Amazon, even from Ipsy through their deals page, and even from Real Techniques, Wet N Wild, and even got some from Ulta in those little makeup bag sets they used to give out and the brushes I have used from them are very good. I may try Sigma or/and MAC in the future when I do save up enough to get a brush or two or a set but in my opinion can’t knock brushes from other brands and say that one is the end all and be all. One good example, everyone said Artiste the best oval brushes except they cost $400 for a set. Yeah! Not kidding! I have tried Ulta’s oval brushes last year and they were $20.00 for a set and they perform very well, even though the style of the brush is not my favorite but it was good to try. I sometimes use the foundation brush for blush a lot. Anyways, you can find pretty good brushes for pretty good prices if you look around or get a holiday set for a good price even. I just got the Wet N Wild Holiday Set for half off on Sunday. If you want to try Morphe’s brushes for yourself, I’m not telling you to spend your money just try one or two brushes or even a set to get a picture of what they sell because worth the hype is not always worth it. You are the judge and it is your wallet.

I think that’s where I am going to end it! I know I will probably have more but I think that’s a good start. If you like this, just sound off in the comments!

What is next? Well, Ranger Stop coverage of course! Stay tuned and follow us on Twitter!

Bests & Worsts of 2017!

Hello Shiquers and welcome back to Nerdy Shique Universe! Happy New Year all and it is time for the Bests & Worsts of 2017! Man, this was a fast year and man I have things to say in both the Bests and Worsts!

Disclaimer: This list is based on thoughts and opinions and observations of what took place this year! Please respect with what I thought and thank you!

Bests:

Interview: Chris Rager and Josh Martin from Omni Expo 2017! Man, this year was a lot of drama when it came to interviews but I feel like I had to mention one in this category and that is my interview with Chris Rager, who voiced Hercule Satan, and Josh Martin, who voice Magen Boo, from DBZ. This was the second duo interview we’ve ever done in the NSU past since we have done it with the Dino Thunder rangers at Omni 2016 and when I found out that Chris Rager and Josh Martin were going to be guests this past year I thought to ask Gondras to see about doing another duo interview since the last we have done was a success. It had fun doing this one actually because I got to have my talk show moment with these two and we did have the couch and I felt like Wendee Williams, the Talk cast, and so on interviewing these two. I would so do a talk show or join one since talk shows are my guilty pleasure during certain times in the year. I do call my interviews the Shique Hot Seat and will keep it calling that even with Omni next year! I also have to say where the staff placed us for interviews was also great since we do enjoy the privacy and not so much noise since we do have the Florida Mall areas underneath. If you haven’t seen the video, I would go into our archive or on our YouTube channel directly.

Email Interviews: Linda Ballantyne and Katie Griffin from Sailor Moon! As you know the problems with us and MegaCon interviews so I had to take it to Twitter to see if anyone wanted to do email interviews where I send the questions to a voice actor or actress and we get the answers and I was happy to do it with Katie Griffin, the original voice of Sailor Mars, and Linda Ballantyne, one of the original actresses of Sailor Moon. These two were major sweethearts and understanding with what happened since I felt upset about not having that one on one with them. One thing I do love about doing the Shique Hot Seat in person is more interpersonal and you get to actually see them in the camera and interact with me. I am so glad I did start doing videos but Mega said no so the next best thing and I did thank them in person and gave them lanyards I made themed of their Sailor Scouts. I even wore my Sailor Moon R broach. I did read the interviews and did enjoy their answers too, you will see what Christina V. said when I asked if she had met Katie since you have read Katie’s response about Christina. So stay tuned for that! I still thank Katie and Linda for doing that for me and I am very grateful for it.

Movies: I bet you are wondering why I put “movies?” Well…this year we only saw five movies that were really awesome and it is hard to pick out and I will say the reasons why I chose them and not in particular order either.

1. The Last Jedi: First is the new Star Wars flick to be released this year and we just saw it last week. I know normally we would catch it first day but Holiday Matsuri was on opening day. This movie was awesome and it does show how the torch gets passed onto the next person to be a Jedi. Yes, the story was clunky to some but how they told it was very well done and it flowed. I never thought playing around with telepathy like they did would take place in a film like they did. And we got to see the Yoda puppet return for this movie and I missed that about Episode 2 since they did him in C. G. I.! Thank you Disney for bringing the puppet back. Also, I have to give props to Little Kuriboh for this because he was the one who did the audio description! Nerdy Shirts did tell me about it and when I listened to it I did hear snippets of Yami and Kaiba a little bit in the description but they did pick the right person for this since he did get the dramatization right, heck I even went wide-eyed from the suspense during the description. Way to go man!
2. Thor: Ragnarok: Next is Thor: Ragnarok which I have to say was the strongest of the Thor flics in the Marvel universe. Dark World was funny but they cut down on Chris Eckleston’s character during this and the first one was fun but to me the third one was the best because you do have the call back to Dr. Strange and also bringing back the Hulk and following the apocalyptic myth in the Norse myths. I did love Cate Beckinsale as Hela, I know it is supposed to be Hel but this is Disney after all, but she did a very good job on this character after her character in the Underworld series. And the comedy flowed a lot better in this one than the other two because as you all know that comedy has to flow not be forced nor take over the action most of the time like the second one. I can’t wait what awaits Thor and Hulk in Infinity War with the other Avengers!
3. Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2: I have so many words to say but this one did continue Guardians very well since we did get to see what happened to Quill’s mom in the first and then see what happened and who his dad was in the second one. This movie made me laugh the most and I thought I would go into tears from so much comedy even though the part that had me laughing the most was when Baby Groot brought a person’s toe to Rocket’s and Yandu’s cell. Sorry to say, with this one, I didn’t recognize most of the songs except for “Surrender” by Cheap Trick to be honest. Still, this was very entertaining and a great start for the summer movies! I can’t wait to see the Guardians’ role in Infinity War too next year since they are showing up.
4. Wonder Woman: Finally a movie that Warner Brothers did right! I am so glad Zack Sneider didn’t touch this one with his writing nor directing because with how they did this movie was perfect! Yeah, it is supposed to be in World War II but this did work out in the end. Too bad they didn’t continue this movie making in Justice League because I heard how the movie was not that great.
5. Spiderman Homecoming! And finally, Spidey’s back! We were happy that this film brought back the whimsy and comedy we loved about Spidey in the cartoons and a sweet relief that Marvel has him back and can do the proper films with him. Seeing the Vulture as the first villain made sense because with most of the villains besides Green Goblin and Doc Oc, we hardly see any origin stories for them either. We are hoping to see Scorpion step up in the next Spidey film since it seems that way with the last credit scene during the movie. So glad Spidey is back!
Best Stan Lee Cameo: Being With the Watchers in Guardians Volume 2! It was hard to choose which of the Stan Lee cameos were the best since the one in Thor and Guardians were equally good but I would lean towards him being in Guardians Volume 2 because it was a surprise one and that is him telling things with the Watchers. I couldn’t hear what was being said due to everyone around me plus Gondras laughing their butts off with Yandu and Rocket speeding by in the distance but it makes sense for Mr. Lee because he does go into tangents even for his age. If you see the videos from MegaCon with his panel, you would know!

Makeup Brand of the Year: Wet N Wild! Next is Makeup Brand of the Year and I give it to Wet N Wild because they blew other brands out of the water with their seasonal collections especially the Unicorn Glow and Midnight Mermaid Collections this past summer and fall! Sorry Makeup Revolution, Too Faced, Tarte, and everyone else who jumped in the unicorn and mermaid themes this year but Wet N Wild blew you guys out of the Last Unicorn’s Forest and Ariel’s home with their stuff! The Midnight Mermaid collection was a major success with how much of the bundle sold out and some of the items sold out on the WNW website and of course the Unicorn Glow selling out on Ulta’s website. Out of these two I do think the Unicorn Set happened to be my favorite overall because I got to play with more highlights and I did do a video series where I created looks of a Goth Unicorn, a Colorful Unicorn, and a Smoky Unicorn and had fun with all of them! I may have to come back to one of the highlights and glitter pigments when I do my Rarity eye look for Omni Expo.

Liquid Lipstick: Wet N Wild Liquid Lipsticks! Next is all about Liquid Lipsticks and I give it to Wet N Wild too because of how they came into 2017 with new products and that included a collection of liquid lipsticks! You weren’t expecting how well these will do, heck I had a hard time looking for Rebel Rose which is the pinky rose shade in the collection. They even did metallic colors for Midnight Mermaid with a coral, a burgundy, a blue, and a green to show their gothic side. I did hear they did do some for their Fantasy maker’s line for Halloween but couldn’t find anything but these lippies are amazing to have in your collection!
Runner Up: NYX Lip Lingerie! I have to give the Runner up slot to NYX for their Lip Lingerie line because of how comfortable these things are especially during a convention. They stay put and they even go on very evenly when you have a lip primer on. I do enjoy these and they are not as expensive since they are at a drugstore price.

Makeup Sets: Ulta! Next is Best Makeup Sets and I give it to Ulta! Ulta has improved their makeup game over time since their last sets I picked up a few years back. The sets I got were Love Makeup, Beauty Treasures, and Be Gorgeous and these three are amazing except for one part of the Love Makeup pallet where I feel like they should’ve changed the color selection before releasing because some of the shades are not as cohesive but at the same time you can get a look with most of them. The one I do love the most is Be Gorgeous since it has a variety of colors to play with and you can come up with a ton of looks and it did get me into color correcting after all. Way to go Ulta and keep up with the good work!

Best Actress: Gal DuGat! I know I should’ve mentioned this in the movies arena but this list is in no particular order and this year’s Best Actress goes to Gal DuGat who played the title character of Wonder Woman. I think Warner Brothers picked a very good actress to play Diana because of how strong she made her to be. I wished they made her better in Batman vs. Superman or not use her at all and just stick her with her own movie but the actress pick was pretty spot on.

Best Actor: Dave Bautista! It was hard to choose but I give it to Dave Bautista who plays Drax in the Guardians movies because with this character he played a very awesome and awkward badass! Plus, he has to go through hours of makeup in order to play this role! Still, I give it to him especially how awesome he did in Guardians 2!
Runner Up: Jeff Goldblum! My runner up slot goes to Jeff Goldblum because it was hard to say who gets this slot, him or Dave? Reason why Jeff is in this category because of his role in Thor Ragnarok and he did amazing for his part. I know everyone is hating that he didn’t get the blue makeup treatment like the actual character but he hit the personality and you did get to see him have a cameo dancing in the credits of Guardians 2!

T. V. Season: Doctor Who Season 10! Best season of a t. v. series for me goes to Doctor Who because this ended Capaldi’s run in the best way possible even with the Christmas Special! I am still wishing they continued the part of the season where he goes blind but there is always the new doctor to play around with for next season and the seasons after. I and Gondras did like how they called back to the First Doctor especially with the last arc with the Cyber Men and bringing a past version of the Master on top of it. I can’t wait to see what they do with Doctor 13!
Runner Up: My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic Season 7! I bet you are wondering why? Well, this season did continue where it left off with the last one with Starlight Glimmer taking on the ideas of friendship all thanks to Twilight Sparkle and I was hoping they continue with her because knowing and my feeling is that she may be the next in line to have Aracorn powers like the princesses. Who knows if Season 8 may show that if it does happen. I did like and wasn’t expecting that they would talk about Star Swirled the Bearded and his companions who help form the first Elements of Harmony which I wish they talked about that more in all honesty because I felt that came out nowhere but it did show what had happened to him and his companions. Now hoping Season 8 would continue and I am thinking that the main six would take on teachings from the first Elements of Harmony for certain things like making AppleJack stronger or Rainbow Dash more faster or something. Who knows!

Fave Crowd Cosplay: My Link from Legend of Zelda but as Pokémon Ranger Link! Final category in Bests is my Crowd Fave Cosplay and that goes to my Link cosplay! This costume was two years in the making because I did start getting some of the things and needed to wait due to funds not being that high. I did finally finish getting the parts last year and getting the costume together in time for Omni Expo this year and man it was awesome especially with the Ageslash prop Gondras made! People were surprised by how well it looked in the Master Sword Coors and Zelda elements especially with my patches which shown the Tri-Force and the goggles too. Plus, I even worn elf ears for my first time since I never had and hadn’t used spirit gum in the longest time. Still, everyone who this cosplay loved it a lot!

Worsts:

Meh Movie: Power Rangers Re-boot! I know it is weird to see me mentioning this one but looking back at it but Power Rangers was an okay re-boot. Yes, they did have different people for Zordon and Alpha but I feel like I was missing the original Mighty Morphen even though it was cheesy 90’s t. v. but we grew up on that. Another thing is that Gondras pointed out is that the pink ranger’s costume had too much pink to it that it almost looked magenta and not pink. I guess they wanted to match the dark elements? Still, it was a meh movie.

Convention Press Experience: MegaCon Orlando 2017! I have to be honest that doing press for MegaCon was not as great as I thought. Yes, they had so many panels to cover but I am still wishing to do interviews with some of the actors. I am kicking myself for not saying that I was blind when we could only interview attendees, cosplayers, and comic book artists but it is due to being kicked out after the work of getting the passes in the first place and I felt that they didn’t also want to listen to it either nor give valid reasons even though the reason I got from Tampa’s Press Head was they only give interviews they felt deserved it. Okay, seriously? We have done this work for many years and interviewing someone as big as Stan Lee is someone’s dream, heck I wouldn’t mind to interview Danielle Panebaker when she was added after seeing her on Sky High and some other stuff on Disney. I know with cosplay, we did interview Riddle but.reason being is that I have to know their work in order to interview them and that is why it was easy for me to interview Riddle and if you want it to count, R. J. Heady since I did love the show Face Off. Also, with the huge crowd…it would be hard for me to ask attendees because there are times when people do get uncomfortable being asked things or give an answer that is not as great or just run off. And comic book guests…you know my situation! Sorry MegaCon, we won’t be coming back due to this experience and I feel like with all the work we have done, it feels like we can take our work to other places and new heights. I mean Omni and Holiday Matsuri still have us do work at their conventions.

Makeup Product: Anastasia Beverly Hills Sub Culture Pallet! I had to add this one on here because so many people were in an uproar with this one and that is the Anastasia Beverly Hills Sub Culture pallet! I have seen so many bad reviews on this pallet because of how much shadow it poops when you dip your brush in. Yeah, it not only becomes dusty with product but it poops it. I am glad I didn’t get on the Anastasia shadow or highlight kick because the…in my honesty…brand doesn’t interest me. I can get really good brow products from the drugstore, shadow pallets I love from other brands in drugstore and high end, especially Urban Decay and Makeup Revolution, and of course better highlight pallets like the Strobe of Genius pallet from NYX but Anastasia doesn’t strike up any interest in me getting anything. Maybe the Moon Child pallet but I found similar shades in Wet N Wild’s and Nyx’s highlight pallets already. So when I saw all the reviews on their Sub Culture pallet, I was surprised! Yeah, people say you can work with it but it is way too pigmented and with shadows like that it is hard to work with, I don’t see that much fall out like this one with my L’Oréal Infolluble Shadows. Not only that, the owners were telling people you aren’t using it right until they found out the reason why it was the way it was is due to how the machine pressed each shadow. Sorry to say but need to improve on that. I did hear the Prism pallet was better.

Okay, looks like that is it for this year’s list! 2018 is going to be big and hoping so because Omni Expo announced Josh Seth to be a guest this year and I am still waiting on the press application for it and hoping next year to have a new panel for it too. New posts to add to the Word Press side on top of that, especially the technology side! New costume to be designed, and hoping! Hoping! I finally get something started my access tech career goal because 2017 was a sit and waiting game for me and 2018 is where I need to spark something!

So, with that, have a safe and Happy New Year everyone and see you in 2018!

Rants/Response: Fifteen Things Poor People Do Rich People Don’t Into What Not-So-Rich People Really Do That Is Not Seen!

Hello Shiquers and welcome back to Nerdy Shique Universe! Today, I am doing a respon se post to something that is pretty interesting but at the same time face palm worthy!

It might be a bit of a rant but Saturday night, I was in a live chat that Rich Lux was doing and he brought up a video by A Lux.com which talks about how to become a rich person from what I am taking it and he talked about the video they recently made called “Fifteen Things Poor People Do that Rich People Don’t.” This was interesting in a way since yes it is a video that gives facts but at the same time I wonder “Where do they get all their research?” Especially one when I responded in the chat towards “Poor People always eat fast food.” Rich Lux did read out my statement and he did agree that you can eat healthy on budget which I will explain below. So, here is my list of responses because I saw the video myself and it was cringe worthy and face palmtastic!

First….

Disclaimer: This is a response post to something I’ve seen and it is based on opinion and experiences from my own life as a Not-So-Rich person. Please respect my thoughts and feelings and when I do put the video link when I am done to Word Press, don’t give any hate to the person who did this video.
1. Some Not-So-Rich People Don’t Watch A Lot of T. V. and Others Learn While Watching: First thing on their list is that “Poor people watch a lot of T. V.” and goes on that we watch too much reality t. v. and how news is biased, etc. Here is the thing, yes there are people that are glued to the tube and don’t get that much exercise either but of course there are times when people don’t want to watch t. v. and tend to watch stuff on either NetFLix or Hulu or my fave platform, YouTube since the entertainment is there. Most of the time when I watch the tube is basically when my fave shows have new seasons on Primetime, or watch talk shows like the Talk, and I do catch some news and finally any new Doctor Who related stuff like the Christmas special for this year that I am waiting on. Most of watching is online like most people and listening to podcasts because I learn from there which brings my next point of this and that is when we are young we tend to learn from watching Sesame Street, Blue’s Clues, Barney, etc. Heck, one of my nephews learned his Spanish from watching Dora the Explorer as an example when he was four or five. So, t. v. is the basis of our learning when we were kids and haven’t gone to school yet and when we do come home we love to watch cartoons and have a snack. And another thing about the not watching so much t. v., there are people that prefer to play video games when they get bored of watching, heck I did it too when I had my Sega Genesis and N64 after watching an episode of Sailor Moon. So yes, not all people that aren’t as rich as a lot of people watch a lot, there are the some that do it but not all. Also, another point I would like to bring up, there are the rich and successful people that do sometimes watch t. v. or YouTube, for instance Kim Kardatian (I know I always butcher her name) she watches YouTube not only to unwind but see the makeup influencers to help with her makeup line. For instance, she had a video with Nikki Tutorials last week where she tested the Power of MakeUp she started and they talked about watching YouTube and how Nikki got started, etc. In order to have a successful makeup line, you got to be relevant and knowing the trends from t. v. and YouTUbe and even magazines help with that and to become a success in the business.
2. Not-So-Rich People Can Eat Healthy on a Budget: This point of “Poor People Eat a Lot of Fast Food” got me commenting in that live chat and I am glad Rich Lux read it and did agree. Yes, we do turn to the lovely McDonald’s Quarter Pounder or the Wendy’s Four for $4 but I am wondering, “Has this lady been to a WalMart or a Publix lately?” Or even a Trader Joe’s? Yes, there is that comfort food but we do like to eat healthier time to time and yes we can have that option at a restaurant but you can also get it pretty cheap in your local grocery store. For instance, a bag of spinach and cale can set me back $3.50 and I have omelettes with that along with salads and even sandwiches at home when I feel like it. Plus, we can get our own burger patties on special at Publix when they have Fourth of July sales or even Labor Day sales since they do specials on grilling food during certain times of the year. Heck, Publix here puts the Boar’s Head items on sale like the bacon, the deli meats and the hot dogs. So yes, we can eat healthier and pay a lower price when it either goes on sale or look for the deals in the aisle and even compare each product. I even got a pack of six boxes of Mac & Cheese, Publix brand, for $4 and it has saved me a lot when my mom hasn’t come home from shopping until late in the evening. Another point is that this woman talked about is how we don’t want to know what is in our food or know about nutrition. I would say… “Excuuuusssee meee princess!” There are times when some not-so-rich people are afraid of getting more weight and try to find the healthier options over going for the fattier ones. We also know what a salad is thank you very much! Another thing to use as an example, when she mentioned sugars and fats, actually I have replaced the sugar in my coffee for brown sugar which is supposed to be better for you and it still sweetens my coffee and my health is still the same from that small change. Heck, I even enjoy almond milk due to the taste and have it with a piece of toast later on in the night or with PopTarts time to time. Still, hearing this point kind of ticked me off and I feel like yes there are the fatty food options but most of us like to treat ourselves with Five Guys but most of the time you can get chicken for $7 or more on your grocery bill and cook at home which would save you a little more money than doing it for three meals a day because it does add up and your wallet shrinks even when it comes to lobsert night at Red Lobster.
3. Buying From Sales Racks Are Not A Bad Thing! Her next point is that “Poor people buy from sales racks!” She believes that the only thing you should get on sale is stocks. Yes, stocks are great and all if we are working for a big company and can buy them small but clothes are important and it keeps us from running around naked like Blink 182 did in their “What’s My Age Again” video. People can’t always afford the Gucci sweater every month or can go into Bloomingdales or even Lolipop Cotour here in the Millenia Mall or try to see in Hollister. (Yeah, that store is extremely dim from what I heard!) That is why sales do exist at certain times of the year or if it is going on clearance so people can save money. One thing is that there is also a sale on your favorite store sites too almost every month and if you are a member you do get those lovely coupons like I have gotten from Ulta and used on this month. I will use some examples! Every year Hot Topic does the Hot Mess sale and when the first Thor movie came out, I was able to get my Thor shirt during the Hot Mess sales for $2.50 when it would cost me $19.00 originally back in that time and you can get awesome stuff in those boxes like shoelaces if you need them, some accessories if you’re lucky, etc. Even this past month they did a 30% off of a lot of items and that is how I got my Panic! At the Disco shirt and Sailor Moon knee socks to go with my Sailor Moon top for conventions or girls day outs. Another thing is, a lot of people that I like to watch on YouTube love to wait until Sephora does their VIB sale where they get a certain discount based on their Beauty Insider status to get what they want that they have been eyeing on. Heck, I even enjoy Ulta’s 21 Days of Beauty when I got my fave Smashbox eye primer and the Urban Decay Perversion mascara on half off. Even Vivi did a Labor Day sale when she got her boots and dresses. You get the picture! Sales aren’t that bad and it feels like these are being looked down upon by this video and it is kind of sad. What also irked me about this was when she said, “When things are on sale, the clothes that the person can afford are the ones that the rich don’t want and the people who get it on sale can look like they couldn’t afford it at full price.” Okay! That is a little snobby in my book! Yes, I didn’t get that Thor shirt at full price nor the Perversion Mascara at full price but one thing that this person doesn’t realize that sotres need to make room for new stock that is coming to their store or website. Yes they can sell more on the website but sometimes the companies also discontinue items like Lush did to A LOT of stuff recently. (Including my fave Blackberry bath bomb!) And in order to make room, the sales happen and this does attract a lot of people to buy those items. Heck, another point which I want to bring up is that there are times where store locations close down if they don’t make enough business. Back during the recession as an example, a lot of businesses closed down due to not enough people were coming in to buy the stuff and that caused a huge hit even if you were rich or poor, you were stretching your money back then! Trust me, I was saving a lot for me and Gondras for conventions and did garage sales. Heck, I did that way for my laptop too. So, when a location closes down they have to clear out stock and that is why they put everything on “It Must Go!” and people run for the hills. Even though it does still happen today, heck Blockbusters went out of business and Radio Shack as well and had to close some locations that it was happening to the most. So yes, sales aren’t that bad when you look at it. Heck, even around the holidays people, rich, middle class, or poor, want to stretch that money as well even if they get it from stocks so don’t look down on them as this video did!
4. Not All Sleep In Late In Their Early Years! It depends on the person because this point was “All Poor People Sleep Late In Their Early Years!” Okay, can you blame me that I woke up super early to catch the bus in high school and take naps during the day and sleep in on the weekends? Can I get an “Amen?” Here is the thing, yes some of us do sleep late while others do wake up early so they can either do errands or have doctor’s appointments which will be talked about later. One thing that this video doesn’t realize but people do have night shifts or work over time. Gondras sometimes has to do closing shifts and his feet hurt like hell at the end of the shift and he does sleep late because he comes home later due to clean up and closing. Another example is Vivi’s husband Tobi works a dsecurity job at night when a lot of crime happens most. Other people that work night shifts includes urses, firefighters, police, doctors at hospitals, heck even writers stay up late to meet their deadlines. I even admit to sleeping late because I write late at night time to time if I can’t sleep. Also, another thing, there are people that do have sleep issues and I do admit that too! When I first dated Gondras, he was an insomniac and he slept a lot later than me and he does still do it today but not as badly. Heck, blind people go through Non-24 Sleeping issues as a good example which I listened to a recent podcast episode about that in detail. My mom even suffers from sleep issues so not everyone can have a goodnight’s sleep and that kind of causes us to sleep later than normal. What also bothered me is not only she didn’t provide any statistics but she talked about waking up late and not educating yourself and spend a lot of time on meaningless things. Truth is a lot of people sometimes are curious people and learn about other things and be educated in other ways whether it is through a web search or what I do is listen to podcasts while putting on my makeup or in the bathroom. I even learn more about tech stuff since I am planning on being an A. T. Specialist. All thanks to the Cool Blind Tech podcast, I was able to learn about the TW Blue Twitter client for my computer and got my mentor interested in it. I am also in a Hadley course currently and she says we don’t educate ourselves due to sleeping late. That is why coffee exists. Another good point to mention about sleep is that people are in different time zones from each other and depending on what they do they have live chats while we do sleep and there is not enough time in the day in the States for us to do our own thing too. In the end, yes sleeping late may be a bad thing but there are night shifts to consider, sleep problems too, and time differences. Heck, even some famous people may have sleeping problems due to their own career like movie stars while shooting a shoe or movie and that does take time. So, yes the rich and not-so-poor aren’t different in that aspect.
5. Not All Of Us Are Into Sports! Jeez louise lady! Have you met everyone that is into sports? Heck, even the big celebrities love to sit in the sky box watching the Super Bowl! Here is the thing, not everyone, poor or rich, is not always into sports because of the interests being so different or if you can’t see it like I do. For instance, I was over at Nerdy Shirts’ place for a Wrestle Mania party and I only can hear grunts and screams from the wrestler’s and remembering Undertaker’s entrance and the thing is I can’t get into wrestling. I was even asked, “Who is your wrestling husband?” I said, “None!” All my gal pals looked at me like I was insane but I was honest about it because I can’t see what is going on. I’d rather read a book on Kindle than watch the Super Bowl. Even when I was doing my university classes, I never went to one Knights football or basketball game because I wanted my dgree to get out. Another point she brought up is that watching sports is pointless as watching t. v. Maybe to some but not all because I have seen rich people get into golf due to how much of it is a gentle sport and I admit I did play golf myself since it is an easy sport for blind people. Heck, even some of the billionaires we know play golf, even most of the football players and basketball players are billionaires by now and some have retired. For instance, Shaq O’Neal, I can imagine him in his mansion still watching a Lakers or Magic game since he was on those teams and want to see how is the line up after he left. I am just using that as an idea. Heck, probably some of the players started in high school to play sports and then went pro after they graduated from high school and college which made them into what they are today. I think this person should’ve researched before mentioning this point.
6. We Shower Like Rich People! We may not have the roomiest showers or the biggest bath tubs or hot tubs but we do shower! I may think shelters might have a place to sshowers for their residents. Still, this point is pointless because when you are on a job, hygiene is very, very, VERY important because you are the image of the company that you work for and smelling like a stray cat that rolled around in sludge won’t help. I always do my morning shower like she mentions and I always make sure my body smells like the shower gel I use, I wash my hair when I need to, even use soap in a certain nook and cranny, showering is an important thing and wishing all convention goers do it so they won’t have that nasty convention funk.
7. Poor People Blame Others for Their Msery? Ummm… Really lady? I think it depends on the person because the only way of blaming anyone is blaming yourself if you haven’t been successful yet. We are only human and there are times when someone being successful can happen over night or it takes time for their success to be gained. For instance, Stephen King did not become a best-selling author overnight. In his memoire, he mentioned how he had a hard time being published with any short stories he sent in and he did get turned down with some but lucky with others. His wife was working at a Dunkin Doughnuts even and he waited for that check to come in until one lucky day he found it and that helped with paying for medicine for his daughter’s ear infection. Even John Grisham had to pass out his books for free before he became famous. A good example, I only sold two copies of my first book and I have a second one. Do I blame it on anyone? No! I keep promoting it and keep on going with my life because I am trying to start a career because I prefer writing as a side thing. There are going to be times where yes they won’t choose you for a certain job or won’t pick your artist’s booth for Artist’s Alley, learning from the mistakes help you move on and yeah you may look down on yourself for not being a success but it doesn’t mean you can’t keep going or trying again. Remember that old saying? “First time you don’t succeed, try try try again!” Which I do agree! Your successes aren’t always hand outs nor expected, that is why a lot of people have to work hard in order to get where they are at even in today’s age where there are going to be times where you may have to go back to school and start over again and then see where you will be next. So, don’t blame others just know what went wrong and try again!
8. We Do Save Up! “Poor people don’t save money?” Okay, um…have you paid any bills lately? Yes, like a lot of people, we do pay bills and that is the main priority of every month and hearing about this does feel like it can happen but there are people who do save money in a jar, a pouch like I do when it comes to conventions or other things I may have to pay out of pocket, or even in a savings account when they open their checking account. I remembered when I had my first account with a bank, they let me put in a dollar for each transaction I do into a savings account and I did protect myself from over withdrawals by tapping into it when need be. Yes, it can be hard to save oney but at the same time when saving your pocket change in a can it does build up. I tend to spend the change from any money from my dad to go towards my next convention and sometimes do need to use it for small things like a medication I needed to pay my co-pay for and glad that I had it. There are the people that don’t save and hold it for a rainy day and there are the ones that do and maybe this point should’ve been looked at better.
9. Poor People Have Credit Cards But Is It Really for Useless Things? I have to put this statement in a question because I feel like it sounds like we can’t build any credit. Usually the credit card is a way of helping in paying for items if you can’t pay for out of pocket and then you pay it back once the billing statement is in. People do use these cards or loans for useless stuff but others do use it for more useful things such as an IPad for instance that may need an upgrade or they may need a certain cosmetic product that works for them and it may cost a lot and need to use the card for that. I admit in the past I did max out but I bought my usual cosplay parts that way and even had to help Gondras with his Fourth Doctor outfit and I did become better about it. I mostly stick to my store cards that I applied for and do pay little at a time, as in the minimum payments that get posted each month and that goes back to your card to refresh itself. For instance, my Hot Topic card was paid quickly in a few months after using it on my Dead Pool hoodie that I needed since it was getting colder and Florida only has that slight chill. Another point she pointed out is using the credit for investments which might be good but the question is who is investing everyday? Yes, I may get my next phone upgrade next year but developing an app well there are already a lot of apps out there that do get used by a lot of people including blind people like me. If I come up with an app then I could talk to IT guys that I may know and then there will be the footsteps to something big. Yes, we do have these nice cards and loans, but there are times when we do save up for the item that we want or pay off the card that we used it for to wait as time goes on. Even though credit is like a baby where we have to take care of it, building it also helps for bigger things and must not runaway with it and spend it everyday.
10. Not Everyone Has Kids Early On! I need to ask for this point did they get their research from an actual place? Because there are times that not everyone has a kid even early on in life. I knew some girls in high school who did have their kid then but at that time they weren’t thinking and didn’t use protection. I am 32 now and I get Social Security and use it towards my phone bill along with cards and now one of my doctors, I am kid-less actually because I don’t want to put that extra expense and stress on myself especially while Gondras is still in college and living with his mom. Plus, I am trying to get myself back to school to get my grad certificate to help me with my career goal and that is important than me settling down with kids. I have seen friends that have had kids while they were in college and that can also be hard due to the added stress of raising a kid while taking classes. One good example is one of my second cousins who just had a kid and yes she is working but can’t get back into school and she is not living in a great place either and her mother gave her everything! EVERYTHING! When that kid comes and if you don’t have the right environment to raise them or right situation, then it will get even more expensive and more time consuming because you have to find the place, get the stuff for the baby such as formula and diapers which are the most costly of the items. Trust me, I have seen my older brother get more packs of diapers while visiting here when he was with his ex-wife when his kids were teeny tiny and of course you have bills on top of that to take care of. Also your own health, any pets you might have, etc. So, yes, I would say think before you want your kid even when you are in your early twenties which is where most people want kids because the financial situation will not always match your family situation. In case if you are curious, me and Gondras will come to that road eventually but not now!
11. Not-So-Rich People Have Insurance And Do Have Check Ups With Doctors! Her point to this is “Poor people don’t have regular check ups with their doctor.” That is not essentially true. There are people out there that can’t afford all the doctors even on insurance, heck it is hard getting a dentist here in my part of town because they don’t take insurance which that is another thing. Not all doctors take the same insurance plans that everyone loves to rely on. Like I said, the dentist offices here have some that do take insurance but after a certain age or depending on what kind they don’t take that insurance especially for what job is needed to be done in the mouth. For instance, when I first chipped my tooth all thanks to a stock cart, I was looking for a dentist that can help and asked if they take MediCare which is what I use and they don’t so I had to pay $300 from my mom’s card to get this fixed. I know it is not much but when you get into the big stuff like extractions and root canals then that is a heavy price! Another example, I used to see one Endocrinologist in one part of ttown and he didn’t take MedicAid and had to pay an $80 co-pay and then found out that they don’t do HMO MediCare. So, guess what? I found someone else and pay a lesser co-payment and my medicines are the same price due to my insurance and do see my Endocrinologist regularly as in now in November due to a slight change to my thyroid. So back to the point, there are people that don’t have insurance that can’t really see a doctor or the doctor’s office doesn’t take insurance and also there are times when people have really bad infections or need surgery and have to go to the hospital that requires a lot more stuff to do and that is referred by the doctor. So, in other words, there are times when you have to do that visit with your doctor if you need help and there are times when it has to be an emergency. Another thing to consider, walk-in clinics are an option even at a pharmacy if it is a lesser problem or for vaccinations themselves. I get my flu shot at Publix all the time now instead of visiting my doctor every year since my insurance is also taken there. So, in other words with this part, for something minor or vaccine related, there is the walk-in clinic or pharmacy. What about major diseases? Should touch on that! Yes, it is important to catch it early but doing it earlier can even help in a greater idea because with tech as advanced as it has been, detection can be easier and find easier treatment within that window such as radiation for a specific cancer in incrinments helps out, I mean my dad went through it and did help. If it is too late, yes it will be costly but it doesn’t mean there are medical trials where people can raise the money. For instance, there are Go Fund Me pages for medical surgeries everyday now and crowds of people are willing to help with that. Heck, one gadget known as E-Sight which costs a buttload of money has help with donations for the people who want it in their life and if I go through an eye treatment myself later on then I would do the Go Fund Me for that because crowd funding is a big thing now when it comes to medical related costs.
12. Poor People Spend Money Before They Get It? Another question statement. Yes, it can be a danger borrowing money and acquiring a lot of expenses before paying it off but like what I said above with bills and other things like food and pets, there are times when there is not enough left over for something special like a luxury item or a luxury dinner. I did mention how I save up my change from spending money from my dad. If I can’t get something that same day like for instance a t-shirt at a concert since I can only afford food and one CD that night. I say, “Okay! I will make sure I have enough next time!” I have that mindset especially knowing the price ahead of time if I do save the amount and have it for next time. I also remember a saying my mom gave me especially with conventions: “If you have the money then spend it, if not don’t!” Trust me, I remembered how Gondras almost had me spend all my savings at one stand during AFO 2012 and had to push him away after the pile of DVDs we picked up at it. I am not kidding about that pile either! It can also go the same way with credit cards too…trust me now I have to clamp myself from using them…which my tip is just budget or know what you are getting and just buy that thing! If you go off track then just tell yourself to keep going! Heck, I even push Gondras out of the candy line or in GameStop to get out of there! Then if you have the money leftover then you can save it for the next purchase or a sale or even for something small you may want. There many ways to save!
13. We Surround Us With All Kinds of People! Rich Or Poor! The next thing on this list that made me cringe was “Poor people surround themselves with other poor people.” Is it me or is she making it sound like we have to hang out with our own group of people? In the nerd community, we come from many different backgrounds even in our college days. Whether that we started off with Star Trek, Star Wars, anime, comics, etc. We are all nerds and we usually associate with them but nowadays everyone is including the sci-fi genre into their normal t. v. watching queue. Heck, I started watching Big Bang Theory a lot more when there is a new season on CBS and I still love anime and read books. But I remembered in the past that I did meet someone or two that didn’t want to be included among us nerds when they were nerds themselves essentially. Mostly one person I kind of excluded due to how bad she ignored us. Anyways, back to the point, no matter what your background is if you make a hundred a week or a thousand a week, people like to hang out with others on a daily basis either at a party or online talking on Skype or AIM (it still exists as an app actually!) If we have something in common and like to be around each other, we are friends and some people do make relationships with another too guy or girl even. Yeah, we can’t always go to a huge penthouse party but it doesn’t mean we can’t enjoy boba tea and taro cakes even while wearing a Lolita dress and hightops time to time. What she also pointed out too is the whole if you are hanging with four other poor people then you would be seen as one. Okay, let me say this! Your money status is not really anyone’s business unless you published something really big or made a huge change to life. One good example is the book series from Christie Barth, The Naked Men Lunch where the guys in there are rich guys but they end up falling love with girls that have different backgrounds like Griff the coast guard guy ends up with Chloe who runs her own letter writing business, Knox the huge millionaire guy all thanks to software is with Madison who works at the library and came from Alaska to find her brother, Logan who is a guy who helps people and takes on his family’s business takes on a girl who is a cheerleading coach, well former cheerleading coach, and now Riley who works for the TSB is with Chloe’s buddy Summer who owns her own boutique. It shows in these books how the characters came from prep school and go through their own accidents and come out fine and find their matches all because of love not wealth. If you have rich friends that don’t like it, fine by them! If I was a best seller already, I would rather be with my friends that I have known from my convention experiences because we formed a tight circle already and bring Gondras to the parties and he can look good while he is at it despite how he looks, at least he showers! And finally about this point, she talks about how you should be inspired by the rich friends you make, or was it be inspired by the group you hang out with. I am already inspired by the people I know! I already have a book later on that Vivi asked me to write and I got my inspiration for the idea from other things too not just because of other authors. I would confess this though, I did ask for description tips from Mimi Jean but I know her busy schedule and glad that she did take the time to respond to give me her advice and I am taking it to heart. It would be nice to hang with her but she does have other obligations to do including her writing. I am the same way with this blog, getting press jobs, and finding new things to do in tech to develop my skills more. Yeah, it would be sweet to hang with Stan Lee but I still like my friends to this day!
14. Poor People Don’t Follow Through With Their Ideas? Excuse me? The Blind Perspective was an idea I followed through! Yes, we can’t change our past but we can control our future. Yes, success does come quickly to others but not as quickly to many. The only way of being successful is by working hard finding the mistakes that you have created to try again. Remember that old “IF you don’t first succeed?” When I was trying to get my first job, I always fell on my face but got back up and didn’t we always hear, “Never give up!?” I always never gave up even if I had to change my career path. I am not still giving up you know why? I keep on working at it and improve my skill so I can get my experience. The problem is that today a lot of people are expecting experience over skill and that doesn’t mean giving up should happen if nothing goes your way which there are times it doesn’t always go your way. Things just happen and when it does it might be an accidental success and would lead you into a new avenue. I mean, we still do press for Omni despite a typo years ago and that is still a success story I will never let go. Another part is the whole 9 out of 10 businesses fail, shock a statistic, she goes on that none starts because all of them fail. Yes, a lot didn’t start is because a lot of people kept on working on it and kept going with it. If you guys watched Shark Tank, a lot of those people started their own thing and even if the team didn’t accept their offers they kept going with their business wherever they are. Like the Lip Bar, that was in someone’s kitchen and it still grows from what I have seen on their website last time. Even me with Nerdy Shique Universe! I got the spark all thanks to Hot Topic and yes I did improve on getting the style and moving it to Word Press and then five years later we are here still along with a YouTube channel. So, if you have an idea, just go with it and see how it goes if it doesn’t work then try fixing it and keep going!
15. There Are Times When We Need Help to Reach the Top! Her last point is “Poor people believe in they need help in order to reach the top!” Yes, we don’t always have the hand outs and we usually start alone and believe that we will be successful when we are young. Isn’t that everyone in the world especially a rich person? I bet the Kardatian family didn’t start off with being rich together or as famous as they are now. I even read the authors’ bios of the books I read and see that they started off as university students or just a normal person at home, when they start doing things there are times where things do get tough and they need that help to succeed. I even see the praises the authors give to their agents and editors because they have a team that helps them in getting their product out there on time. Heck, I am visually impaired and I need the help with visuals during our press work and I have to rely on Gondras and Nerdy Shirts to get our work out even after the convention. And don’t rich people have their teams in their companies to help them reach the top? Hmmm? Even though the answers to problems aren’t always handed but the team can solve those problems together and able to face them head on, for instance when Nerdy Shirts accidentally lost our Dameon Clarke video, I came with the idea on the spot to see if we can redo the interview and we worked together to get it done again. Yes, having that help may lead to failure according to this video but there are times when that help and teamwork makes a brand and company successful wehether it is a blog like this or a book coming out, or even a major makeup company that started off small and grew over the next three months we all have teams!
Well, that is it for this post and man it was super long! I did take a break to snack on something because of how long this took. Plus it felt nerve racking and cringey watching this video again too to get all the things mentioned. I will put the video link in here so you can see what was talked about and warning you may have face palm marks like I did.

What is next? More book reviews in the air and still crossing my fingers on Holiday Matsuri 2017!

Tips: How Not to Be a Wheeaboo!

Hello Shiquers and welcome back to Nerdy Shique Universe! Today, I am making a much lighthearted post this time. It deals with Wheeaboos.

I bet you are wonder, “What the heck is a wheeaboo? Why are you doing this post?” or “Not this again!” Well, the reason why I am doing this post is that it seems like some people are kind of including the usual anime fan in the wheeaboo category and it is kind of sad. For those of you who don’t know what a wheeaboo is it’s a person who is over obsessed with anime and/or denounce their culture wherever they are or what they were born as to say that they are Japanese and perceive what they see in most anime as actual Japan. Also, they tend to butcher Japanese especially mixing it in with normal speak like the pronoun “desu” or use the expression “ne.”

I do have to confess that I used to have these kinds of tendencies when I was with THEE X (I use this name towards him since he is the only ex-boyfriend I really only had and I named him this in the first book too.) It was all because he and his family lived in Japan due to his dad being in the military and was happy about that but things did get a bit rocky during our second year together especially when he got mad at me when I said I prefer the American version of Power Rangers over Super Sentai since I couldn’t get into it when he gave me episodes of Dekaranger which turned into SPD when it came to the states and I did see it when it got brought over and it was awesome and better than the Japanese version, heck Doggy Cruger was even better in the American version. Besides the point, I did grow out of it and did change while dating and being engaged to Gondras.

Lately with watching people’s stories with their encounters with Wheeaboos, I never thought that there were more out there and that people have met them or were friends with some of them and after watching a video that Ahki Deareest and Gaijin Gumba did together and talking about how anime fans are being looped into this group, this made me think and this post is a way of how to not only tell the signs but how to get out of it before it is too late! Heck, would help with the people you know who became one, especially the young ones who got into anime!

1. Learn the culture: First tip is of course learn the culture! What you see in anime is not always what it is in real life, yes there is historical fiction anime such as Rurouni Kenshin which is based on an actual samurai but anime like Naruto, Bleach, even manga like Chronicle of the Cursed Sword, do show some cultural aspects but understanding the actual history, the folklore, and the influences from other countries would help know the culture. Here is an interesting fact about anime that WHeeaboos hardly know and that is America actually influenced the Japanese in creating anime with how they drew their cartoon characters like Bugs Bunny, Mickey Mouse, etc. That is how come you see how much anime and manga is drawn by looking at them to get the idea of anatomy in characters and how to make them move, etc. Not only that, knowing the folklore with Japan is also important because when you visit the temples they do have statues that link to that folklore as well. I bet you’re wondering who you should watch on YouTube for more stuff on Japan’s history and culture? I would suggest CanadaJin3 who is a Canadian woman who lives in Japan and she goes to the many locations to talk about the history, especially with temples, the many hot springs in case if you want to visit them, and how to take the trains to the places, and etc. Also Charla In Japan is another person that does go around Japan even in Tokyo to different temples during holidays or just tourist attractions to show on YouTUbe. I also recommend an Asian Humanities course to help know the different parts of Asia before Japan since they also helped Japan in some of the language and food! Speaking of which…
2. There is More to Japanese food than ramen and Pocky: What do I mean by this? Well, I did use to eat nothing but ramen and Pocky when I was younger to fill my Japanese food need but when I met Gondras I was introduced to more of the cuisine. As in, I got to try other things outside of ramen since we had Japanese places that are amazing! If you are here in Orlando around November there is a Japanese festival and one place that does serve food for you to purchase is Ahki which is located near the Wyndham here in town, that was where we first celebrated our first anniversary together and I still remembered having Katsudon which is a rice dish with scrambled eggs, a kind of sauce, onions, and normally pork but they have other versions like Tendon which is Tempura veggies and shrimp which I had once and enjoyed but one thing I do love now is Udan noodles! And towards Pocky, there is other snacks to enjoy that is not just Pocky such as mocha which is a marshmallow like snack that is made when rice is mashed up and rolled over until its sticky and it is mostly found as ice cream which tastes amazing! There is also red bean cakes, buns, and stuff made with geen tea and taro, which is a sweet potato found in sweets. And of course, our beloved Hi Chew which is almost like taffy in a way. A good example of finding a lot of snacks besides the usual Pocky is either in Asian markets in your town or at the Japanese Pavilion in Epcot at Disney World.
3. Learn the language: This is one important tip to know and kind of obvious and that is learning the language. Yes, we know the simple words from anime but some people don’t use it in the right context of a sentence. I have seen it a lot in fan fiction and I can’t read it because of that since I did take Japanese classes in college. One big thing about a language is of course sentence forming and that was hard at some points and I did pass with B minuses but the language is complicated to learn like most languages. I do suggest taking a course if you are at a university or go the Rosetta Stone route. In case if you are wondering, “ne” is a way of agreement in sentences if you hear someone using it in English, it is the Japanese saying, “Right” at the end and goes the same with “desuyo” and “desu” is a form of “I am” which is normally at the end of sentences. (Was pointing back to earlier since those two words are the most used by a Wheeaboo along with kawaii and sugoi.)
4. When visiting Japan, know the customs of the country: This is a major tip because there are things different that people do in public in Japan versus how we do it here! I did see this one Wheeaboo story where someone went to Japan with an actual Wheeb and she was loud in temples, the subway, and was cosplaying while visiting which is frowned upon unless if you are going to an event or if it is Halloween. Some of these customs would include bowing, certain table manners like wait until the entire group gets their drinks before taking your first drink and even slurping your noodles loudly. (That is okay actually, I did hear it is a compliment to the chef.) Also, another interesting fact is that we as tourists do stick out like a sore thumb and I can imagine with a Wheeb it would be even more since Japan is always more about the group when we are more about the individual so I would read up on some customs before traveling and try to get your Wheeaboo buddy to read as well since they can get some dirty looks.
5. SHOWER! FOR THE LOVE OF GOD! SHOWER! Yes, I put this in caps because in some of the Wheeaboo stories I have seen, especially with Vivid Barnacle, wheeaboos like most convention goers don’t shower either! One story that dealt with a group of university students met one really annoying one that turned extra crazy smelled like sweat and only went to brush her teeth in the communal shower rooms. I admit I smelled worse and had to spray the elevator with room refreshner spray when the stench of one student in Daytona was left behind. (Not kidding!) As we all know that showering is a major part of any routine especially while working at a convention or a normal 9 to 5 job. Heck, even deodorant and perfume is also important to keep that stench away. You shouldn’t be smelling like convention funk on a normal day since hygiene is very important.
6. We tend to use the same school supplies as Japan even if it has some cute stuff! I have to mention this one since one video had one story where someone meant a Wheeaboo that had a backpack with school supplies from Japan and was like, “Oh look! This is my Japanese eraser!” I know it’s nice to get school supplies even if it is Hello Kitty school supplies like I have before one of the Sanrio stores closed down in town and an art store stopped carrying it but there are times when a Wheeaboo just collected it and says it is better or gets it because it is Japanese. For instance MagicalPockyUsagi was trying to sell “Japanese pens” for thousands of dollars. Why the quotes is that people who commented on her video said they can get the same kind of pens at WalMart. I kind of agree because some of the pens I got came from Dollar Tree and when I used to draw, back to the eraser bit, I found a lot of my erasers at art stores and in WalMart and Kmart when we had it at the time. So in other words, we do use the same kind of school supplies that Japanese students use even if they have cute stuff on them. Heck, I even tend to use my Kerroppi and Kuromi pencil cases as makeup bags time to time to make it easier for storage or travel with my makeup.
7. Getting into other fandoms doesn’t hurt! What I mean by this is that a great way of breaking the Wheeaboo tendencies is that there are other things to enjoy besides anime and JRPGs. I will tell you other stuff I do like and that includes Doctor Who, Mystery Science Theater, Marvel, and of course since I am going into the career field of it, access technology. Heck, besides my Fiary Tail wallscrolls, I do have a Doctor Who print on my wall of one of Matt Smith’s quotes since I am a writer myself and it deals with stories. I think Clara did recite it in the last episode of Season 9 when Capaldi was talking about her. And can’t forget, I do love beauty stuff which it doesn’t hurt to like many other things outside of anime whether it is tv, film, books, etc. It kind of gives you more of a healthy balance in life to like other things and opens your mind to other things that might be out there.I admit I didn’t like the idea of podcasts at first but when I got my Victor Reader Stream I have over twenty of them I have subscribed to and let you explore and think when listening to them. Again, liking other things outside of anime and Japan doesn’t hurt, just give it a try.
8. Finally, listen to more music! A lot of Wheeaboos like to listen to a lot of anime music and Japanese artists. I did admit I went through this phase and had tons of CDs burned with the same song or two and listened to it in the car a lot! Then when I got my MP3 player, it was the same way, then IPod…now IPhone but I do have my fave artists from here in the states this time around and goes the same way as my I Heart Radio lists and my Top Ten songs! I am admitting that I have grown out that stage of life. My music taste does still have Gackt, L’arc~en~Ciel but I do love Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, Hawthorne Heights, Sleeping with Sirens, sometimes I do listen to Barenaked Ladies, They Might Be Giants, and more! And of course, local bands from here in Florida do rock as well like Leaving Haven, Mr. Bella, and my boys of Soul Switch and Traverser. Like the last tip, listening to other artists new and old doesn’t hurt either since listening to the same thing over and over can be a bit boring at times and having something new to listen to can give a nice bit of variety.

Well, I think that is about it! If you guys want to hear some of the stories I mentioned above, I would suggest Mindless Gonzo for his Wheeaboo Horror Stories and Vivid Barnacle since people like to submit their own stories. If you have a tendency to go WHeeaboo, I would say blast some Avenged Sevenfold before you get trapped in it since it may help!

Well, that is it for this post! I would like to announce that I did submit a new panel for Holiday Matsuri. They haven’t announced press yet since I was glad they got my form a while back when they put up the form (gotta love it when they are early) and they did put up their panel form at the beginning of this month if you are wondering. It was an idea from Nerdy Shirts since I did mention my convention experiences in my first book why not talk about how I went from being an attendee to press and then an author? So, hoping this will be selected for this year but if not, there is always Omni after all! So, next post will be the Top Ten Songs of June and my faves of May and June! Until next time!

Rants: A Serious Talk About MegaCon Orlando and Advice to New Press People!

Hello Shiquers and welcome back to Nerdy Shique Universe! It is time for a serious post, which I feel like getting this off my chest and if I don’t then I won’t be getting any sleep. (Haven’t been sleeping the past few days!)

Today, is going to be something of a little rant but at the same time a little warning and advice because I am here today to tell you guys what really happened with MegaCon Orlando’s press and what I went through to get the press badges in order to do it. I bet you are wondering why am I doing this? Well, things did come up after I sent the head of Orlando’s press the review and well me and Gondras, since we can only have two badges due to being online media, won’t be doing Orlando’s MegaCon for press anymore after what had happened. So, let me start from the beginning of the story.

This is the beginning…this is the beginning of the story: As you know we have done press for four years and we have done it with MetroCon, MythiCon, Holiday Matsuri, and Omni Expo, which Omni were the first to discover us after a small typo I had done and one of the reps asked me to contact them and they asked to do press for them and we have been doing it ever since and all thanks to them we were able to gain experience by not only reviewing their event, interview their celebrity ovice actor guests, and get to attend awesome events. Went the same with Metro, Mythic, and Matsuri and with all that experience we thought it was enough to try out for MegaCon and that was last year. We didn’t get it which was saddening enough and I thought well, I guess they don’t want us as press due to being so small despite our experience and Gondras wanted me to try again which got me trying out for Tampa and we did get the passes there but couldn’t make it due to me being in Daytona with a work experience. I did get to send questions for the Convention Head in Tampa and included that in a Convention Spotlight which added a bit more experience. So, fast forward to this year.

The form was early this year which I did talk to the head in Tampa that it should be earlier due to how press is like a regular attendee and we have to plan even with equipment to use for interviews and recording events, etc. That got considered and I did fill out the form and then got turned down again. I couldn’t sleep by the next morning and knew that they were giving us an unfair chance and got me contacting the Orlando Press Head and told her that we have done a lot for the convention community and that smaller blogs should get a chance to cover press and I even shown links of our work which included our interviews with Steve Blum, Brian Beacock, and Dameon Clarke, and of course our most viewed panel of all the Attack On Titan Cast Panel from Omni Expo 2015! I even mentioned that we were doing press at Omni for our fourth year in a row which that was the week leading up to that convention. So then, we got re-considered and was told that like the other press people that we get chosen to promote the brand and event which already do in the Convention Spotlight, heck even promoted the local attractions this time since all the websites mention our biggest thing in town Disney, Universal, I think SeaWorld was mentioned, heck Pandora at Animal Kingdom and Volcano Bay at Universal were opening during MegaCon Orlando! Plus, Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2 was out and people haven’t probably seen it so we do have the theaters in Pointe Orlando and CityWalk nearby and AMC over in Downtown Disney where the convention does close early and people probably want to see a movie. I know tangent! Anyways, I told them we do that anyways and even pass out business cards which we didn’t do that this time due to how fast we had to go between Concourses. So then that got me asking about interviews!

This is the middle…this is the middle…this is the middle of our story: So, next is the interview part. As you guys know the biggest part of our work is interviewing guests at the convention and this kind of gives you guys a taste of what they do in the booth or on the set of the show since we never see them tape an episode or record in the booth and also we get to see how they like to meet their fans face to face! Trust me, I even almost teared up when Steve Blum told the sotry about how a dad told him how his autistic child was able to talk due to watching him on Digimon Tamers. So, I was told to wait until April, month before big time press, and waited. The thing was on the form itself it asked, “Do you want to do interviews with staff or guests?” And the next question, “IF it is a celebrity guest, who are your top two you want to interview?” At the time, they only had really two big guests that really excited me and that was Stan Lee and Tim Curry and put that down. In April, didn’t get an email and decided to ask about it and got the response, “Sorry! We can’t fulfill your request.” I was surprised and then asked about voice actors and then got, “What voice actors do you want?” At the time they haven’t add any yet and said, “I will get back with you about that when they have some.”

Two days later, they started putting people like Billy West, Troy Baker, Jennifer Hale, and so many more and then contacted Mega again with the names since we haven’t done one with Nolan North, had him, Billy West, Troy Baker, and I think that was it because they haven’t added any anime people and we would like to do an updated interview with Troy Baker since the last time we saw him was at Metro 2014. So, yeah, he had more work and it has been a while since. Then got the answer, “Sorry! Can’t do that! We can only give you cosplayers, attendees, and comic book artists.” I tried explaining I sent them work even after they announced anime actors and got the same answer again which pissed me off and decided to go to Twitter to see about email interviews instead and you were able to read interviews with Katie Griffin and Linda Ballumtyne. Jamie Marchi did say ask again later, I am thinking of seeing about her being at other conventions first before asking again, I mean what if she is at Holiday Matsuri? That would be fun to ask her my newest question about the holidays. The convention did pass, I was able to meet Katie and Linda in person and even Linda thought it was smart with Twitter and she did love my Sailor Moon broach which I wore. (Yes, got one at Hot Topic.) Now onto the end.

This is the ending…this is the ending…this is the ending of our story: So, convention passes and I felt like I had so many things to say but I kept the review as professional as possible. We did have fun but I kind of felt like I was missing something and that is the interviews. Yes, I did mention that part and here is where the screwed up crap comes into play!

So, I sent the Convention Impossible review to the Orlando Press Head and did say “Convention Complete for the entirety of the convention.” And “Aonvention Aborted” for Press. So yeah, felt that we won’t do press again for Orlando but being careful with Tampa. This is what happened next.

So, Press Head asks me “Why didn’t you talk to me if you had a problem? I would’ve fixed it and normally we don’t have celebrity interviews at this convention. The question about interviews was there so we can know who we are working with.”

That stopped me right there! So in other words they baited us! Yes, that is actually the conclusion which I felt used and it made me mad, GOndras mad, even Nerdy Shirts go “Damn!” and I did put a response, “So you baited us…good luck with next year!” I get the response of “No! It’s information gathering!” That kind of set me off the edge in professional mode which I mentioned that there was no valid reasoning to us not being able to interview us and why put the question there in the first placewhen having press at all? I even did end it there because I felt like they don’t deserve us as press since I felt like I jumped through so many hoops to get to this convention and after the failure with AFO not letting us do press, that is why we wanted to show that we hadn’t given up.

What got me more mad is that someone put this as a response when a friend talked about being burned out slightly even after Mega since he was also going to AFO, “Conventions are supposed to be fun! If it is not worth it anymore, let the blog go and move on!” You guys know me, I won’t let this blog go because it has been my baby since 2012! We have also not only give you awesome content here and over at the YouTube channel, it doesn’t mean we have to give up just learn from this entire thing and find a new convention to cover. Heck, I am working on trying to get press for Ranger Stop and even sent the Press Kit. Oh yes, after all the issues that came up with this convention, Stellarnan suggested that we should have one if any other convention wants more work to be proven. I never thought when looking at the stats that we had a big increase of views over on YouTube when I thought we had thirty thousand less views. Lol At least now we know that our work is still seen today. Even people still comment on our Attack On Titan Cast Panel video and it’s two years since that video!

What Is My Advice? Well, my advice is if you want to do press for any convention like us is that make sure what you are getting into. As in, see what requirements the convention is asking for. As in, how many views that you get that they might ask for, see what they do for interviews, which would help because time to time a convention is different, etc. Because we don’t want you guys to go through what we had to do.

Another thing is, ask questions! There are times when the form doesn’t just do you justice nor the website doesn’t say much so usually asking the right questions to either the convention head themselves or the people heading press will help and they are supposed to be there to help. For instance, when I lost my money pouch the convention staff at MythiCon were amazing! They helped us in finding and returning my pouch. Another example the same year is when Nerdy Shirts had the Dameon Clarke interview and found out it was deleted from his phone while checking, the staff were kind enough to let us redo the interview like the deletion never happened! Even though Mr. Clarke did ask me what happened to my hair when I wasn’t wearing a wig on Sunday. (I still get a chuckle from that since when I wore both my blonde wigs that weekend, one was darker than the other.)

And lastly, have a press kit on hand! Like I said above, I did create a press kit all thanks to advice from my best friend, Stellarnan, because it shows that we have done work in the past. I did watch videos on it and did see that I can create it through Powerpoint which I did! Trust me, I had a lot of fun creating it and I did send it to the Mega Tampa Press Head to say, “Hey! This is proof of our work!” I even sent it to Ranger Stop and a little more help for Holiday Matsuri since we did fill out the form for that. Speaking of which…

Advice for conventions or anyone who wants to start one, make your press form as detailed and concise as possible. As in, list what you want, what social media you want to see from the blog such as YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Tumblr, etc. And of course experience if any because what if the blog has been around for more than five years or even ten and have been doing press for longer and showing the experience would help to see who is going to work for you and what do they do? And for interviews, just mention beforeheand that press outlets have to talk to staff or even use Google Hangouts as a way of not only meeting the press team, Holiday Matsuri did this and it was great, and ask, “Do you want to interview anyone?” If the person in the chat with you says, “Yes!” Then ask for who they want to interview. That would help with arrangements and of course, please private rooms and make sure that room is given a time slot because it would help anyone setting up for a panel if it is in a panel room or in a green room to say, “Can’t go in due to an interview.” And of course, let attendees know that there is an interview going on if it is in a panel room and may take ten or fifteen minutes to finish.

And for any guest liasons or volunteers, please don’t talk near an interview. As in, if you want to have a discussion privately, please stand away from the interview because there are times when background noice gets picked up in video and it can be hard to hear.

Any steps for us to take?: Well, after everything, I did send the review to Fan Expo who owns MegaCon now along with my press kit to pass along to other conventions for future attendance and press. They did say thanks and if they need anymore feedback that their staff would get in contact with me. No contact yet but I know they would read what I had to say and knowing that the hoops I jumped through to get us there were the hardest to jump. I am also not joking about expanding wisely in the convention press because after seeing what we went through, I don’t want to lose sleep again over another convention. Heck, I lost sleep due to what AFO said about us that isn’t true. Even when I suspected the baiting thing, I lost more sleep than ever. It is that bad.

So now, that is why we are sticking to the conventions that we know and love. Even though it may take longer to get back to MetroCon because when I posted on their group recently about how I missed doing press for them, another press person replied by saying, “I love doing press here because I get treated like family.” Which looking back on it, Metro did treat us well as press people. Yeah there were some hiccups but I did say in that review that not all conventions are perfect and when I read that it did mean a lot to me. What even meant to me more was Richard Epcar liking the post and I did confirm that it was actually him on Facebook and did send him a friend request. I guess he remembered my interview with him which you can still read here. Now I am starting to cry as I type…

So yeah, that is everything. It felt better to talk about it to you guys. I know it seems off for a convention that is wel-known for bringing big names to Orlando and has been around for ages or more like for years can have something wrong. Trust me, I missed doing interviews during MegaCon because I had so much fun doing them. If you saw my interview with Chris Rager and Josh Martin, you can see me having a lot of fun! Heck, when I interviewed RJ Heady about Face Off it was so interesting! You can see me, doing this and bringing it all to you so you guys can see what I experienced. That is why the new panel that Nerdy SHirts thought up of is going to show how I became press from an attendee and into an author because I am published now with a second book on its way. Even working on my third book at the moment. Heck, during the Totally Spies Reunion panel, they asked people to tell who they are and got applause for mentioning I was an author. (You will see in that video when I put it up here.)

That is it, most emotional post I’ve ever done and pure honesty. So, hoping for the best for us in the future and hoping that we do get Holiday Matsuri this year. I would say, if you still love MegaCon, keep going to it! Please don’t send any hate because of what we went through. We learned a lot from what we experienced and hoping things do get better and they will. We have learned from it and know that there are other conventions willing to open their doors to us despite how small or how much biggere we’re growing.

Well, hoping the next post is more lighthearted. Until next time!

ant: Response to Grav3yard Girl’s Instagram Nightmares Video

Hello Shiquers and welcome back to Nerdy Shique Universe! Today I decided to do something more as a response to a video I saw earlier this morning.

As you know I like to watch Bunny aka Grav3yard Gril on YouTube and this morning she did a rant video about how she had a bit of a situation on Instagram with with a caption she had made and it cuased people to get into arguments over it. She talked about how people are trolls and want to bring people down and not only that there are cyberbullies that exist out there and I know how she feels because I went through something similar in the past and did comment how I seen it with my fan fiction on FanFiction.Net. I decided to write a response about that on here because no matter where you go there will be people out there that make mean and cruel comments and time to time don’t know the rule of whatever you write on the net, whether it’s through a comment, a video, etc. it will be out there forever especially with the words you use. I even remembered saying the same thing to a commentor on my DMC Reunion Panel clip from Ranger Stop when they y rand about how I didn’t record the video horizontally with my IPad. If you go to the video you can see the comment that they made and I felt offended by it myself and I felt that my response to it was seen as rude by them when their original comment was rude. Did it bring me down? It kind of did but it didn’t mean that I would stop making videos even with my convention stuff to bring to you guys. I bet you’re wondering what about the fan fiction part of it?

Well, as you know I wrote a bunch of fan fictions after I lost my eyesight in 2008 and have come a long way. At first I was writing my fan fictions in the old paragraph style and people told me how to write it better and started doing it that way and it grew and started writing fics based on Tsubasa Chronicle, DNAngel, and even did my own take on Angelic Layer. As time went on, I did notice how people were commenting that they don’t like the writing and it even shown a lot on Fairy Tails: Fan Fiction Novel of the Dresden Files where I had so many comments saying they don’t like how I was writing it and how I didn’t make it like the original source material or even read anything of the original sources which is not true. I have read the Dresden Files more than once and even read two of the books while writing Fairy Tails and that was Blood Rites and Turn Coat. I haven’t read “Bombshells” a second time because I didn’t like the person reading the Dangerous Women story collection as much as the other recordings. Anyways, halfway through writing I decided to end it short since I couldn’t take it and when a fan stood up and commented by saying “I want to see the ending, don’t take what they say personally.” I took that to heart and jump started it and kept writing and even ignored one comment that cussed me out which I can’t block the guy since he was a guest commentor. I did put in my author’s commentary after that by saying “What you say on the internet will be there forever.” Which is true and I have taken that to heart and not only that as my response to those comments the sequel came to be and shows the reverse effects of Fairy Tail ending up in Chicago instead which the good thing I didn’t get any harsh comments. I am hoping that won’t happen as the story goes on.

My thoughts on this in the end is that a lot of people are expecting people that create content for the net whether being a blog like you see, a video, or even fan fiction expect that they have their expectations met. The thing is that I tend to take from an old Disney Channel move is “Never expect the unexpected” It means that you can’t always give people what they expect out of what you make and when it does happen then there will be disappointment time to time either in yourself or your audience. My advice is just go in with an open mind whether it’s subscribing to a makeup box or making video, just open minds exist.

What about bullies? Well, nowadays it seems like being a troll either in the real world or in the internet is a way of being “normal.” There is a major difference between criticism and making a jerk-sounding comment and that can be expressed with feelings in the real world but on the internet you can’t convey those emotions through text. As in, no one can’t see if you’re happy or angry or sad when writing it unless if they are sad about it as in “I’m sad that my cat ran away.” Then add emojis to convey that sadness. In other places people can take the message as the wrong way, I still remember how I used to be in a group on Facebook on my shared profile with Gondras and someone comes in and says “Naruto is an anime? I didn’t know.” It was supposed to convey sarcasm in a joking way but some of us couldn’t see that and it turned into a huge argument between the person and her boyfriend. Not only that it got two of the moderators involved which went into one huge mess and don’t want to go into too much detail. As said, feelings are hard to see and not only that there are people that are just plain mean and think they can be mean all over the place to be liked but not a lot of people like people that way. Bunny did make a point that not everyone will get along with each other and I respect that idea since I don’t get along with some people back in my college days and have seen it in my Daytona days as well. We are all human in one way shape or form and if we want to talk to someone we can and if we don’t then we don’t have to even if it’s hard to bottle it in. But bullying someone on the net whether it’s through Instagram or Facebook is something that is not tolerated in everyone’s books and it’s hard to get rid of, looking at it now it is kind of like high school on the internet which what if we were in a school on the net to make friends and we have a troll and they bring that person down. It is hard to get rid of those trolls whether through blocking because there will be new ones popping up. It’s hard to avoid and yes comments can be mean and they think it’s acceptable when it’s not, which those comments can really hurt and cause something serious.

I In conclusion, I see what Bunny is saying and now thinking why did we come to this idea that in order to be accepted in the internet world is to be mean when commenting on someone’s picture by slamming them down. In our world today, bullying has been a major part of our society and it gets transferred over to the internet and a lot of people have taken their lives because they couldn’t handle it, which is sad. To make the point, when we write in our blogs, post on Instagram, or even record for YouTube, we can’t always please people and fit their expectations when it comes to being creative, which means we should go into everything with open minds and just shrug what crap gets posted in the comments. Plus, trolls are everywhere and can’t stop them unless they realize what they did can be hurting.

Well, that’s my response on the video. You can find her video titled “Rant-Instagram Nightmares.” Which I love her Tea Vlog rants a lot since they are entertaining and informative since she has been bullied herself and have blossomed into an awesome YouTube personality and I admire that about her.

Well, there you go! Stay tuned for anything else I will bring!

Rant: Why the Internet Media is Important for Convention Scenes

Hello Shiquers and welcome back to Nerdy Shique Universe! Today, I kind of have a rant and well it deals with internet media, especially with conventions who want people as guests and press!

The internet has been growing for many years! I still remembered how it started off as dial-up and now we have cable, sattleite, and wi-fi internet and it gets used everyday! Whether it’s for checking email, the stocks for the day, or even downloading music. There is one spot in the internet that a lot of people to use and that is for creating content and uploading it for the public to enjoy, which includes videos, fan fiction, and even blogs like you see right now. Like many books and movies, there are many genres of this material and that includes anime, beauty, cosplay, gaming, etc. There is even podcasts on these many topics and a lot of people enjoy watching or hearing about this stuff.

I bet you’re wondering, where do conventions come into play? Well, there are times when a lot of cons every year ask for people to do press or ask for internet people to be guests while others not so much. Last year, as you know that not only we got turned down for press by AFO but I did suggest them to have Bennet the Sage as a guest. Why? Because he fits in and does make good points when it comes to anime and we seen him at MythiCon and he was very entertaining. Someone put a comment saying that internet reviewers aren’t as important to show up. Here’s the thing though, a lot of internet reviewers do have a lot of popularity nowadays as voice actors. They bring entertainment and people enjoy what they have to say about a particular thing and when they get invited to conventions they get to meet their fans and bring their material live for them to enjoy even more. For instance, MythiCon had Little Kuriboh and Linkara for their first year and I think I laughed to the point of needing oxygen by the end of the weekend, especially Little Kuriboh’s Yu-Gi-Oh Abridged panel. Then the following year, not only they were brought back but added Bennet the Sage from Anime Abandoned and the funny was turned up even higher! I highly recommend the Bennet Q&A panel from that Friday during MythiCon 2014. We not only got to see the Abridged panel from Little Kuriboh and Linkara’s Atop the Fourth Wall Live but Bennet’s Anime Abandoned Uncut panel. Plus, what else they brought was a panel about how to start your own channel or blog and that made it more interesting because of people may want to start their own stuff like how we’ve been doing for years, we did ask about camera work which their tips did give us ideas along with Mike McFarland’s ideas. Still, having these kinds of people do help in giving tips to their fans, doing panels, and many other things. Heck, we even overheard Nate Wants to Battle do a panel giving advice on how to do chiptunes at last year’s Omni. Whatever it is, they do bring good things to the convention scene and they should get more recognition and of course more people to se them, which most conventions do enjoy the amount of people they bring in.

What about press? Well, as someone who has been doing it from 2013 to now, press is one major importance with the internet media because a lot of people have been making YouTube channels, blogs, and even podcasts about conventions, cosplay, and what makes us unique, adding beauty due to makeup purposes for cosplay. Like many conventions, press does get asked for because there are times when a new one comes up in the convention scene or new guests get added, press comes in handy because we do a lot more for the convention we cover. As in, we cover events, review the convention, and my fave part, interview the guests to take a look into their work and background and possibly get some advice if they want to get into the different industries. There are even times when we do get into some VIP events depending on the convention to talk about, such as Troy Baker’s acoustic set during MetroCon 2014! Plus, with all this stuff, it is pretty much beyond what a normal newspaper does because they tend to be limited to write one article on one event, such as the Orlando Sentinel writing about the cosplay contest at AFO last year. Press does go a long way when it comes to spreading the word about the convention too, if you seen all the Convention Spotlights in the past, you know how much I try to get the word out, even with Omni in its first year of being a new convention in Orlando. Without press, where would the publicity end up? So, press is one major importance and it does help business more since of course it is a major business to run a convention.

In the end, internet media is very important to the convention scene the internet stars that get invited do bring a lot of entertainment like the voice actors. They even help with giving advice in starting a YouTube Channel and blog if someone wants to do itm heck, I even remembered doing a fan fiction tips panel for example. And onto the idea of press, a convention is a business and publicity helps that business grow in having the word spread. With the videos and posts, this gives people ideas of wanting attend the next one if it happens again, not only that we do use social media to say “Hey! Check this thing out!” since there are a lot of people on social media these days! We also tend to cover a lot more than a lot of major newspapers don’t due to how limited an event can be written about due to how daily headlines have to be up front. Another thing is we also interview some of the tuests that come to these things so that our readers or viewers can learn about what they did in their career. There are many things that internet media brings to the table and like many businesses, it is also a business in itself with how we work with the convention scene to keep coming as either guests or as press.

That’s about it for this rant, comment below if you want to add your two cents to this because I like to see what you think. Not only that, if you know anything else that I should talk about here that is important just comment it.

What is next? Well, I have my January and February Faves coming up next! Stay tuned!

Anti-Aging Cosmetics Rant: Do We Need It At Such a Young Age?

Hello Shiquers and welcome back to Nerdy Shique Universe! Since I am still waiting on word if we are doing press for AFO, they should really get on that since August starts tomorrow and on the edge of my seat for it, in the meantime it’s time for something that I have been a bit miffed about and it’s due to how I have been getting a lot of anti-aging products in my Ipsy bag and BoxyCharm when I don’t use them!

This is mostly a rant about it because since I am turning thirty on August 9th this year, I don’t have any wrinkles, fine lines, smile lines nor frowny ones, crow’s feet, etc. due to how young I look. If you seen all my pics and videos from aall the interviews I done with every voice actor so far you would wonder, “Is she really turning thirty?” Trust me, when I was having the actors put “Happy Birthday” on my stuff back in 2010 when AFO ended a day before it, they didn’t believe me I was turning 25. Anyways, I don’t use anti-aging make up at this stage in time because I don’t need it and it’s scary or odd to hear a lot of girls are using it especially the younger ones around their teens.

What Do I Think? Use Age Appropriate Stuff and Save It for Later! What do I mean by that? Yes, we see the Maybelline Age Rewind items and the IT Cosmetics Anti-Aging primers but best to save it when you hit forty or older and if you are subscribed to Ipsy or BoxyCharm or any other subscription, which a lot of times they give it out, just give it to a mom or aunt that would make good use of it. I did that with my Chloraine eye patches, the face mask from last month’s BoxyCharm, and the Pur~Lis brightening serum which I gave to my mom who put better use to these products since her skin is older than mine despite sharing the same traits as her. I even put that in my review in the Pur~Lis serum that I want more age appropriate products because I rather stick to the skin care regiment I already use that has ingredients meant for my skin.

I bet you’re wondering, then why rant about it in the first place? Well, while researching this after getting that serum I mentioned above, I found that website from the UK that I got a good portion of my points for my permanent make up post (if you haven’t read that post, should do so) and found out teens as young as sixteen are using their mom’s products that are meant for their mothers’ skin not theirs and it’s all due to these kind of products being advertised on a teen network on tv. It goes the same for the United States when we base our shopping on commercials and magazine advertisements for companies like :’Oreal, Lancome, Maybelline, and many other companies.

What are the effects? Like most products, there are many effects that can not only cause the good things but can be harmful to the body. One major thing about using these products very early on is that the ingredients are heavier since women in their forties to sixties have different skin types at that age than we do in our teens to thirties and you all know my number one rule of all skin care, “Not everyone has the same skin type!” This goes true for using these products because as we age we know that we have to use heavier stuff and a teen doesn’t need the heaviest of all. And why are these things heavier? Ingredients in anti-aging creams and cosmetics tend to use Vitamin C, retanoids, and retinol and even coligen which is what our skin is made of. Heck, even in Japan they make marshamallows with jelly made of coligen, which is true that we do lose coligen at a later age. Keyword is at a later age, which these products are meant for that. The main effects that these types of products would cause is that the skin would break down and lose its outer layer that would cause sensitivity to the sun according to the article, “Fresh-Faced and Sixteen: So Why are Girls Like Her Buying Anti-Wrinkle Cream.” Even Web MD did mention the whole these products are too heavy for younger skin and best thing is to stick to sunscreen, which we need to protect our skin the most from due to how we expose ourselves to the great, firey star in the sky and tanning at the beaches, especially here in Florida. And of course, my fave to hear my screen reader read all over my research is that not to smoke! Smoking cuases wrinkles after doing it so long, so stay away from the cancer sticks if you can if you want your skin to stay glowing. Plus, like I said above, better off using the age appropriate skin care products such as Proactiv and AcZone for the teens and salisilic acid based skin care for twenty year olds and save the heavier stuff when you hit later ages.

Well, that is it for this post! I know I ranted a lot since this kind of ticks me off to find something that doesn’t fit my age and yeah, we can prevent wrinkles early but using a heavy cream that is not for our skin can be harmful. Just hand it to your moms or aunts or an older neighbor that would get a good use of it.

What is next? Well, I thought with the age thing…maybe I should mention when it would be right to start using make up since that is an easier topic and there is a lot of things to look at. Also, still still STILL waiting on press news from AFO, because I really want to do interviews with Veronica Taylor, Todd Habercorn, Christopher Kaman Lee, and have Gondras interview Reuben Langdon, which yes you get to see him in the flesh for that. Still crossing my fingers for all that! Stay tuned for everything, including my next August subscriptions and of course my July and August Favorites on top of that. A lot to look for here! Til next time!

Beauty Rant: LimeCrime Controversy!

Hello Shiquers and welcome back to Nerdy Shique Universe! I tend to post about beauty on here when it comes to box subscriptions, reviews, great buys, and even how it pertains to cosplay. There has been a controversy lately in the Beauty Universe and it deals with a brand known as LimeCrime!

I knew that the controversy has been going on for a few months and started getting familiar with it due to one of the YouTubers I subscribe to, Young Wild And Polished, talked about how she wasn’t going to support them and said to Google why and I did all thanks to my kitty curiosity and found out that a lot of people have been robbed because of the website being hacked! Don’t worry, I didn’t buy from them during that time since I didn’t know it was happening during my time in Daytona. I am so glad I did know. If you’re wondering, I got into this brand all thanks to other YouTubers mentioning them in their videos and bought only one lipstick at the end of 2013 but it was on EBay since I didn’t know that if PayPal wasn’t used, which now I do know they use PayPal but did hear tidbits that it’s hard to get anything on the website because everything tends to go out of stock. I purchased a tube of Airborne Unicorn, which is a pastel purple which kind of reminds me a bit of Lux in Lavendar by Maybelline looking back on it. Still, yeah I paid more due to the EBayer selling for $20 something, at least I got to try it. I haven’t bought anything else since I do use other dupes and of course MAC since I like their products when it comes to the higherend brands due to how it’s slightly cheaper to Urban Decay, I tend to go for other companies. What got me into doing my own post on the hacking matter and some other things is that I watched the many videos on YouTube about it and this is what I found out.

Behind the Hack: Apparently, LimeCrime’s website got hacked at the end of last year right around October but it was hidden from fans and kept under wraps, even someone posted on their social media pages that their money got stolen after purchasing from their site and it got delted and they didn’t say anything and people kept buying until around January. By January or February, more people were still having their bank accounts emptied and wondered why, which they tracked it back to previous purchases and by then LimeCrime did announce that there was a security breach on their website and got shut down because of it. A lot of people did go and contacted their banks after being told a few days later to check their account activity and man it cause some people to post on their social media pages about not letting the public know, which a lot of websites would do that instead of not doing that in the first place and wait until now. This made Doe Dear, Owner and Creator, mad and did made some mean comments about how it was the crowd’s fault for buying her products in the first place.

My Thoughts: I agree with a lot of the YouTubers that this was not handled very professionally as it should and not only that was kept in secret for months. I remembered how I had my account compromised after purchasing something from the Lush UK website a few years back, which they did contact me saying “Yeah, we got hacked and you may have been compromised!” Which I was one of the people and my card company contacted me about it, which the good thing was that the purchases were declined which was good in the end. Still, LimeCrime should’ve announced this sooner than later and more money could’ve been saved from being taken. Another good example of companies who had it done to were of course Target and Neeman Marcus at the end of 2013 and they alerted everyone that there was a security breach as soon as they noticed it. Again, LimeCrime waited later than sooner.

Now to the post about it’s the customers’ fault for buying, a lot of YouTubers agree that is a poor response to what had happened and I agree with it. A company, independent or not, tend to rely on the customers and how they care about them and the service they give even after a bad experience. I had bad experiences in the past and have had a level head when it comes to that because I want to be treated right by the company and how hard they’re willing to fix it. If the company doesn’t reflect good customer service then why bother dealing with them. For instance, I had a bad customer service experience with the Airport Location at Lush and the Florida Mall location did understand what I went through and were even surprised with the rash I got from a dusting powder, yeah I didn’t go back for three or four years to the airport location but it looked like they improved on it. Another example is how Ipsy has really good customer service even in high volumes. Recently I had problems reviewing my items I received due to the new formatted website and they were able to help me out by having me send my thoughts so they can plug them in. We both understood that it is not easy technology can be difficult, especially with my end in using screen readers, still it helped me and they are friendly when it comes to their supporters. But what LimeCrime said about their customers really shocked me because it kind of continued into about MAC and how they should purchase them when they are lower than they are. After hearing that part in the videos, I was pretty apalled! MAC is an equally good make up brand and their customer service is even better than LimeCrime’s from my experiences in their stores! Yeah, you’re paying $16 for lipsticks from both companies but MAC does have the bright colors and do the nude colors too and have great pigmentation on top of it. With hearing this comment and so many other things, it brings me to this…

My Verdict: I won’t be supporting LimeCrime once I use up Airborne Unicorn! I heard things in blogs and in the videos against what had happened that LimeCrime has sold repackaged products, that they aren’t really vegan on top of it since there are times that Beeswax was used in the past, and on top of it that some of the products aren’t the same as they are advertised. As in, someone bought Cashmere, a Velvetene liquid lipstick, and it is supposed like a khaki toned color according to the site and the person who bought it didn’t get it, they got it a deep brown instead. With me and products, I would get what I expect from people describing the color to me or researching the item in how they bought is not what it was supposed to be. I know the net would take it to great lengths but seeing some of these accounts, especially with the hacking happening, it can happen to anyone wherever you buy things. Even with the quote about it being the customers’ fault for buying items, we do buy things if we like them and we can’t always find everything in-store which makes us go online to find it.

Alternatives to LimeCrime: Like many places on the web and in drugstores, a lot of companies do make neons and pastels, and even the wacky colors if you like just like what LimeCrime does. One of them that is starting to get their company out there is The Lip Bar. I heard of these guys after BoxyCharm announced that Charmers will be getting a lipstick from these guys and got me to look and see who they were, as in watching the Shark Tank episode with them and look at their site, they are pretty much a lipstick company that gives bold colors and are handmade as well! They do cost a bit more but can’t wait to see what they are like when I get my box and of course reached out to them to hoping do product reviews. Another company that has the weird colors and don’t cost a lot is of course Hot Topic’s make up line, Black Heart Beauty! They even have a blue lipstick which I remembered seeing on the Hot Topic website. And of course they do sell LA Girl cosmetics so you can look for the Neons pallet. And of course even NYX has the neon colors with their Macron lipsticks, Maybelline does the Rebel Blooms collection, and so many other companies even did neons last year! You don’t have to purchase LimeCrime if you are going for neons and pastels for your make up collection. I am getting more into MAC since I do love their lipsticks and blushes. I do hear good things about their eye shadows and may dive into those at some point. Still, if you’re into drugstore stuff like I am, there are companies that do pastels and neons that are way cheaper and have good customer service on top of it.

Well, that is it for this post! What is next on Nerdy Shique Universe? Well, a Pokemon cosplay post of course, which I am going to focus on trainers, rangers, and gym leaders for it since it’s easier that way! And of course, in one weekend is Omni Expo 2015! Can’t wait! Stay tuned!

Beauty Rant: Box Subscriptions!

Hello shiquers and welcome back to Nerdy Shique Universe! Even though it is time for Ipsy and BoxyCharm since I just got my Ipsy bag for April but waiting on my BoxyCharm box which is supposed to be here this Friday, but with Florida shipping it is pretty much on the Road Runner express due to it being from Florida. So, in the meantime…it’s a rant!

I ranted about cosplay and of course fan fiction with the problem I went through with Fairy Tails a few months back but this time it deals with box subscriptions, especially in the beauty realm! I don’t want to take one huge paragraph in my next post in what I got I decided to make it a separate post. As you know I am part of both BoxyCharm and Ipsy and get them both each month and I feel as though that I do pay for what I get, as in $10 for Ipsy and the $22, since I live in Florida it gets taxed, for BoxyCharm and do get what I get in each box but with other subscribers there are the ones that do complain about what they get and it’s been irritating for the past few months I’ve been with these guys, especially with Ipsy! Even the complaints started when the theme for April was revealed for Ipsy, which is even incredible and I seen complaints about the people who complain about it. Yeah, it is sad. Let’s continue!

The Appeal: The appeal of both which caught me to subscribe in the first place are different. Yeah, I heard about both through YouTubers I subscribe to but the stories are different. The prices are different for reasons on their own. First Ipsy, which was started back in 2011 and heard of it through the girls of Eleventh Gorgeous with their Ipsy vs. Birchbox videos which are now up against Beauty Box 5 and what really got me to subscribe with the idea of getting samples from different make up companies I heard of and seen in Ulta and Sephora or none I heard of due to being online only and they come in a make up bag for every month! I liked the idea because I always like to switch up my make up bags and I do use them for cosplay make up kits and now have a make up kit for interviews so I won’t get confused. I also got turned to it due to NYX being a company in these bags and you know me, I am a NYX lover, plus itt gave me an open mind in trying new things along the way with samples from other companies. While Boxy, on the other hand, despite it being $10 more and taxed here, it gives me more of a higher end look. Ipsy does dabble in higher end make up yes, but Boxy does it more with brands like Ofra, Model Co., Beauty for Real, and more. It also gives me full size and deluxe sizes in other items to try out and of course I don’t have to pay the high end prices for most products along the way with this box. I seen so many videos with what everyone got and had to try it out for myself with what is included each month. On top of that, what is a greater appeal is that since you get sample sizes sometimes, they do last for a long time! Usually samples run out depending on what it is while others last longer than a month and it gives you enough time to try them out. On top of this, you can trade items if you don’t like them with other people. I will mention that next! Plus, what is great, especially with Ipsy that got me into them and don’t tend to use them and that is the coupon codes that come with each product. Make up does get pricey and I know from my experience in going into Mac and waiting on prices go down on certain Urban Decay items, prices do rack up and it is good to get discounts! Even the Ipsy Me offers where you can get the item you didn’t receive in your bag also has discounted items for people to buy, for instance I got the Pacifica Solar Pallet, which has the Coconut Mineral Shadows from January, for $20. BoxyCharm does have coupon codes that they send in e-mails for people to get, even some of them are credit codes, like with Previse as an example, I think you can find them on the products, but mostly e-mail codes get to you and Ipsy does the same at the end of the month in case you can’t find them on the items. Now, let’s see what are the complaints  besides the appeal!

Complaints: Mostly I see the complaints on Ipsy but with Boxy I only see complaints with not getting the box or not getting sneak peeks, which I am guilty of doing that, which I found out that they only reveal two to three items a month and send the box so everyone can be surprised. Okay, that’s brilliant! I do understand the whole not receiving boxes and bags since there are times stuff does get taken in the mail or gets lost, which I had that happen with packages from different parts of the US and overseas through EBay, here is the thing, boxes and bags get replaced by the company. As in, they tend to send replacements of the entire thing, which I seen a lot through Ipsy, or the individual item, which I only had that once thus far. The only complaint I have with BoxyCharm’s replacement policy is the picture thing, due to being blind and not being around sighted people all the time due to different schedules I can’t take a pic on my own. I admit I traded the item before it got replaced. I did apologize to the person who got it in the end. I do notice how Ipsy does have new envelopes because there are times when items do go missing and these newer envelopes prevent that and are getting better by putting liquids in little ziplock bagies to send to people and I saw that in one of my items this time around, which is a nice step up.

Now onto the most known complaint and that is “I didn’t get what I want!”  This is something is expressed always on the boards on the Ipsy site and on the Facebook and man it’s annoying! Especially when they point out about how they didn’t mark it on the quistionaire! Let me say these points!

  1. The survey that gets taken at the beginning along with the reviews ARE GUIDELINES! As in they use it as way of seeing who you are and what is your style and do their best in matching that with items you get in the bag. Even with the reviews at the end it asks to help cater the future bags in if you like it or not with products and shades, but again they are just guidelines and you don’t not get the item you hate or you do in future bags. They do say that.
  2. They don’t guarantee what you get is what you marked! I learned this after knowing why I’m not getting nail polish much anymore, which I only got it once and that is whatever you marked on the quiz is not a full guarantee is what you’re going to get in every bag and on top of that…
  3. YOU CANNOT OPT OUT OF SAMPLES! Why the caps? Well, this is why, every month Ipsy gets a set of products from different brands and it says when you first register that with signing up that you can’t opt out of them, which is what you get is what you’re going to get that month! I do admit I get disappointed sometimes but I deal and still keep an open mind and willing to try out some things because I understand what they do is what they do! There are solutions with these products..

Solutions to not getting what you expected:

  1. Swap items! Everyone on every board stresses this and that is that you can swap the items that you don’t like and didn’t wanted for something you may want or wanted. I did this in the past with some Ipsy items for other items I didn’t get and that included two skin care items I couldn’t use to sensitive skin for other Ipsy items and still have and of course did swap two of my Boxy items that I diwouldn’t use, which were lashes and the Mistura C to P concealer, for other Ipsy items. Another good thing is that there are Facebook pages for Ipsters and Charmers to trade with each other and I am a part of the Ipsy one but there are times where they can be picky in my opinion, watch out for that.
  2. Ipsy Me Offers! There are times where if you don’t get something from a brand you wanted, such as nail polish by a brand that was given that month or the previous month for example, Ipsy does have their offers thing where they do sell the brands they tend to give out at lower prices than the list price and normally as bundles. I do love these things because I may not get the products they offer that I wanted at first place but they do sell them later. For instance, I just got the Bonita Beauty Lips and Tips set since they were giving Bonita Beauty nail polishes this month and with my luck my bag didn’t get one but I did like the set, which came with two lip glosses and two nail polishes for $8 and glad to get that. That was not the only offer I got, I did get the Rob Sheppy pallet from Tini Beauty, which everyone got the Pearl Fizz shadow in February, the Pacifica Solar Pallet, which featured a lot more items than the shadows, and of course the very first Ofra item I ever got and that is the Ofra eye set. BoxyCharm also put up the products from each month to review and for you to buy since there are some things they do give at random which you can click on the item and buy it from the site or see if it’s up for points which makes it greater.
  3. Buy Them In Stores! Like a lot of brands, there are times you can find what you don’t get in stores! Trust me, I had this happen where I want something and didn’t get in my bag, it can be easily found at Ulta or Sephora. For instance, I didn’t get the NYX Hot Pot Eye Shadow they gave out in October’s bag and was able to find it in Ulta! What if the locations don’t have it or the color I wanted? There are times that you can just order it online which makes it easier. Plus, even when you like the item you got you can also pick up its full size counterpart there instead of having it in another bag. In the end, if there something you didn’t get in the bag at first, you can just buy it in stores, so please save some timeline space in case this happens.

Latest Complaint: Neutrals! ::record screech:: I know, SAY WHAT NOW!? The latest complaint I seen right as the bag was announced was about neutrals appearing in every bag and asking for colors! I know a lot of us girls like the colors and the neutrals but we can’t always do the color thing. I do admit I have pallets and make up sets with the colors but I do reach for neutrals due to smoky eyes and of course doing neutrals for workplaces are the best thing. I am not bashing on colors but the thing is that this is a sampling service when it comes to Ipsy and Boxy does a lot of neutral stuff too, you can’t really bash on it. I did mention coupon codes and going to buy the products, if you get a product in a neutral color and try it out first and like the feeling of it, you can just go to the website for the make up company or the store it’s carried at and pick up the colors that are made. Plus, the Ipsy Me Offers do provide the full size of other colors of the company’s other items, such as the City Colors set with the 72 shadows and other things as an example and their Golden Girls pallet was sold later on with another range of colors. As said, don’t knock the product due to color, just try it out and if you like the product, buy it in a different one with the coupon code or go to Ulta or Sephora where it might be sold and pick from the color range that way. If the product is not liked, then swap.

Conclusion: In the end, box subscriptions when it comes to beauty is a sampling service. There are some where someone can pick what they want but with Ipsy and BoxyCharm, I do like the idea of trying out higher end stuff and drugstore stuff I haven’t tried before or explore the rest of the range with items I did try before. I also get to see other things that brands make or even brands that I never tried before. If I don’t get something I can just go and buy it, no big deal, especially in another color. I would say, don’t knock unless you try if it’s something you can use or don’t like it. If not, just swap with others they may have it.

What is next for Nerdy Shique Universe? Well, since I got my Ipsy, I will talk about that with BoxyCharm since I’m waiting on that now! And of course, waiting on news about Earth Day Birthday if I get the media passes, which I am still crossing my fingers on it! Til next time!
