Anime Quadrant: Eden’s Zero Review

Hello to all of you beautiful nerds and welcome back from traveling the vast nerd universe. I am back with a new post but taking a detour from the current line up of posts.

Eden’s Zero Review

Recently, RJ and I finished watching the first season of Eden’s Zero, which is the newest project from Hiro Mishima who is known for Groove Adventure Rave, also known as Rave Master, and Fairy Tail. I feel that I should give you a review but first, this bit of info.

Disclaimer

This review is based on the thoughts and opinions of the lead writer of this season, please respect the thoughts of this anime, you have been warned!

What Is It About?

This series opens up on a young Shiki on the planet for Grendel which is a planet of androids and talking with the Demon King, Ziggy, and talking about a cosmic figure called Mother. Once Shiki is told about finding Mother, she will grant one’s wish and he wishes to be friends with everyone. Fast forward years later when we meet Rebecca Blue Garden, who travels to Grendel to do a vlog on her V Tube channel about traveling the Sakura Cosmos. She runs into Shiki, who is the only human on the planet, and finds out with her cat android, Happy, that androids are no longer friends with humans with a virus that humans have given to them and causes Shiki to leave with Rebecca. Once leaving, Shiki promises to search for Mother in order to grant his wish, while traveling, he makes friends alongside Happy and Rebecca such as Homura, who was trained by one of the Shining Stars that his grandfather, the Demon King had created, Weiss, who is into building androids, and Pino, an android who was built by a future version of Weiss that ended up in a past timeline to find her creator. Alongside meeting his new friends, Shiki becomes the new Demon King and inherits the old ship the Eden’s Zero alongside the other Shining Stars, Hermit, Witch, and Sister, to find Mother to find Mother.

THoughts

Unlike with Fairy Tail, I did like this series off the bat. If you guys don’t know, at first I didn’t like Fairy Tail like I did with Rave Master and it took Todd Habrecorn to convince me that the series was awesome. I am still working on getting more of the series. Sorry, due to some finances I haven’t been getting any more of the parts but will this year since I finally got to the final arc of the series. I’m happy that NetFlix did pick this up so it is easier for us to catch up with seasons since we do have it included with our phone plan. It got us to finish the series within two and a half weeks versus months of getting the parts individually. Funimation did take a few months to record, edit, and add the features to a DVD and Blue Ray set and distribute it through the internet, FYE, and other places for people to buy.

Like I said, I did enjoy the first season and liked the idea that this is a space opera which makes it different from Fairy Tail. Some people found this as a rip off from Fairy Tail due to how some of the characters were modeled after some of them from Fairy Tail. One example is Rebecca modeling Lucy and Shiki as Natsu. Also, we also meet Elsie who is basically Erza, then other characters looking like Fairy Tail characters showing up at certain places. I can see where this could happen but Mashima is known for re-using his character designs for other works. One example is how he re-used the Etalus version of Wendy for Rebecca’s rival for V Tube. Also, Jelal is also re-used for certain character designs, which he did come from Rave Master by the way with his design. Some artists do this actually since I’ve seen it with Yukiru Sugisaki when she used Gareas’ design from Pilot Candidate for Dark from DNAngel.

Acting

Let’s get into the acting, shall we? The acting was pretty spot on and they did not only use some people who have appeared in one series RJ and I have enjoyed, Re: Zero, but also called back two actresses for their respective characters. Tia Ballard to be Happy in this one and Colleen Clinkenbeard not only as Mother but as Elsie Crimson. When RJ told me about this in manga form and how they had Happy in here, I was hoping they would bring Tia back to be him again since I loved this cute, blue kitty. Yes, I still have all of my Happy items! I hope to find Happy plushies from this series since he has a black tail tip versus the white he had in Fairy Tail. Of course, Tia did bring the voice back for him like with Fairy Tail and still cute as ever especially with the space fish! Yes, there are space fish, why wouldn’t there be any? ANyways, with Colleen, since she did play Erza Scarlet back in Fairy Tail, they did model Elsie after her and she is a Captain Harlock style space pirate in this one and yes she brought the ERza voice for Elsie. I’m glad that these two were brought in for these parts because if they casted anyone else, it would not be the same. I guess Bang Zoom saw the Funimation dub and knew if they did not cast these two as their Eden’s counterparts then it would have not given the series justice.

Kira Buckland plays Rebecca here and if you have seen Re: Zero, she was Beatrice in that series. I did notice that I did hear Beatrice at certain points since she was using the more adult version of that voice. I think it fits since Rebecca is supposed to be around her twenties and she’s supposed to be Lucy, I can hear a slight match with Cheramie’s Lucy voice. I don’t mind cosplaying as Rebecca since she was introduced with a cat headband and I do love cats! WHile with SHiki, we have the voice of Sean Chipblock. He is the voice of Subaru Natsuki in Re: Zero. He fits as Shiki since his character only had androids as his friends during his childhood. I understand the child-like curiosity even with having humans as friends since I have it towards technology myself. He does grow as the series goes on and we are waiting on the next season of Re: Zero since here Chiplock does more of a comedic version of Subaru while with Re: Zero, we hear more of the dramatics. I think the shift shows his range. THere are many other good actors chosen for a lot of the other characters which will take a long time to touch upon, I just focused on these few since they were perfect choices for their characters. Heck, even a favorite of ours does show up and that is Paul St. Peter, which has been a while since we saw him at conventions lately. I know he’s promoting Eden’s Zero as of late. Still, the actors were chosen very well for thiseries and it’s great to hear Tia again as Happy!

Raing: 5 Shooting Star Paws Out of 5!

This series is a great one so far since we are still in season one. I’m excited to see what the next season has to bring. This season did end on a sad note but it also ended with a positive one which would lead into the next arc. RJ is reading the manga so he is keeping up with the story. I hope it keeps being animated and we get to see more of it. In my opinion, it is not a Fairy Tail rip off. It takes place in space when Fairy Tail is an earth story. Eden takes on science fiction with some magic using Ether Gears when Fairy is more of magic. Yes, we still see elements of the two but we also see Rave Master elements as well, one call back is Elie’s blasters with the Happy Blasters Rebecca has. We do see some time travel shenanigans take place at certain parts but not to the extent that Fairy Tail had done. I would say check out the series, it is available on NetFlix and you decide if it is a rip off of Fairy Tail or not.

Well, that’s it for this review. Glad to have an anime review again. I will do the Braille Display Showcase next since I am still waiting on my subscription boxes to arrive for this month! Stay tuned!

The Book Quadrant: To Sleep In A Sea of Stars by. Christopher Paolini

Hello to all of you beautiful nerds and welcome back from traveling the vast nerd universe! I am back with a new book review!

To Sleep in a Sea of Stars by Christopher Paolini

Disclaimer: This partial ARC was given to the lead writer of this blog to review. Please respect her thoughts and opinions that are in this review. Thank you!

Kira Navarez has always hoped to explore new worlds but one world has given her a nightmare she thought she would live. While being on a planet in a system ripe for colonization by humans she ends up falling onto a relic that causes her to change into something that no one has seen before that may lead to the annihilation of the human race and she is the only one to keep it from happening.

Thoughts: When I saw that this was written by Christopher Paolini I was surprised. I have read the first three books in the Inheritance series and still on the fourth one on one of my Victor Reader Streams and when I read this I was amazed how much his writing has changed. I know he was a teenager when he wrote Eragon and I have a feeling he is in his twenties or early thirties by now writing this book and I was happy to read a partial ARC of it. This book kind or reminded me of Event Horizon with a mix of Alien or Prometheus depending on how you see it when this book comes out around September. I did like how he started the book with the voyage with Kira and her team since this was important to start painting the picture and how Kira started to change. As in the mission that changed her to how she loses herself and the teammates closest to her, then to her being alone in the universe. I did find it interesting how the parasite is more of a suit rather than just a virus like how Sam Neil was infected in Event Horizon since his consciousness was being controlled and manipulated when Kira is still conscious and being able to control herself. At first, when she first got infected with her first encounter, I had a feeling that something was going to happen to her and that it could kill her with how Paolini made it sound. I may have to buy the book to read the rest of this because when it dropped off I was hoping her travels on the Valkyrie to get to 61 Sydney, which is in the Wayland System, and how she would deal with things and the remaining crew from the military from the quarantine ship. I also hope this turns into a short series too because I can see this may require a sequel if Paolini hasn’t started on one yet.

Rating: 5 Star Paw Prints Out of 5! For a partial ARC this was a good one! I liked how the story was set up with the mission starting off good and then it went to crap once Kira fell into the relic where a crashed drone was located. I feel that this may be a series because we are going to be facing an alien race that may threaten the human race or maybe Kira is just going to be the next Eragon by being the hero and having to use the military at her side to take on what may be coming after her for the suit. It looks like I will be buying this book, heck I would even get it on Audible to see who gets to read this book since I’ve been enjoying that service on my new Kindle that I purchased this month. Let’s see how this one goes.

That is it for this book review! I know it’s short since it was a partial book after all and hoping I will get the book once it’s released in September since one of the other Dresden Files books is supposed to drop at the same time which I am happy for since it’s been five years since Skin Game! Anyways, what’s next? June is right around the corner so stay tuned for more posts!

The Book Quadrant: Nemecene Episode 4 by. Kaz LeFave

Hello to all of my beautiful nerds and welcome back from traveling the vast universe! I am back with a long awaited book review!

Nemecene: Dreams Flow in Streams by. Kaz LeFave

Disclaimer: This book review is based on thoughts and observations of the lead writer of this blog. Please respect her thoughts on this book which was given to her as an ARC for her to enjoy and review.

In this episode, we find Elise in a newer world where no one can pass through and memories fade and where being guided can lead to being misdirected. Keeto now has to keep his sanity while his sister is being kept in incubation after seeing her murdered in front of him and Stitch and must play a game of Trust-&-Seek in order to save his sister but can he stay strong and sane in order to do that?

Meanwhile the Gadlin Subculture is going through its own crisis where the ocean is in its vision but the planet is changing at a fast rate despite their ways of fixing it. Tufferie, on the other hand, is now selected among the group that has been watching the twins’ progress in the city Aedenborough and must keep the truths behind their veils as she guides her friends to help save Elise’s life and keep Keeto sane to help put the pieces together.

Thoughts: Man that was kind of hard to write the synopsis in my own words since I did remember how the book went at certain points. So, basically this book continues from where Through Fire & Ice but with one twin dead and the other grieving with Stitch. I was surprised when I was going into the book that the reason why Elise went cold was due to what took place at the end of the last and that she is now in an area being brought back to life within nine days if possible.

I did find this book really interesting since the afterlife or purgatory in this world is more of a dream world. As we know that different cultures have different ideas of death and purgatory and I find this new since it shows Elise’s memories even with Keeto, Nithruyu, Stitch, and even going back to a time of their ninth birthday. Okay, the number nine is bigger in this book since we have nine days to get her back, ninth birthday, and still keeping the nine chapters in this idea.

What do I think of Keeto in this book? I find him doing well despite the grief he was going through. Yes, I saw that he was going a bit insane even around Stitch, who had his hair freezing which we can tell he did like Elise more than just a friend and how his attitude just went cold and the ice was also hurting Keeto at times. I was surprised that he let Sparky go through but I understand since he lost his sister who has been his only friend all his life and they are trying to survive in a toxic environment and of course wondering what is going on with Caroline who is also another life line where they are. I also found his journal entries very interesting since he was calling out to his and Elise’s mother and hoped for more responses and what I find more interesting is the tech being used with the transmitters where he has recorded things over time. He even questions more about what he finds and if it is really linked to his mother but at the same time it still loops back to the birthday memory. I feel like the birthday is a big symbol while reading the book. I don’t want to spoil too much since you may want to read this one.

And finally, Tuffurie, I liked how she started in her segments of the story as in working at the café where the twins tend to hang out at and have those Flyer Bakes all the time. I can imagine if this was animated that she has glasses or something to make her more unique to me besides the jewel tone eyes like the others had. I know with the others like her she has been still in the story and I hope they keep her as each episode keeps on being written. I did find it interesting how she interacts with Elise and trying to help her and yet not helping her by saying, “Do this this way but not that way!” And how she makes it sound like it will get her back as each day keeps going. I can’t wait to see if she has more things to do in the next episode since she seem to have more care for Elise like Nepharus had in Episode 2. Will have to see!

Rating: 5 Star Paw Prints Out of 5! This was a really interesting book with how we got to see what purgatory was like and of course getting to see more of Keeto’s mind. I do like how the ninth birthday came into play and that memories can be changed and also time since there was some time traveling that took place but can’t say how. I hope with the next book we get to see more growth with the twins and that Elise and Keeto find that new place after knowing that they can’t stay where they are anymore. I have a feeling they had to leave Aedenborough even though their journey took them to different parts of the world they’re in. With the next one I can’t wait to see how Kaz will make it since new things are popping and now more things are showing with the Gatlins and who knows what secrets may hit and how both of the twins will find out. Still a great series so far!

Nemecene: Dreams Flow In StreamsWell guys that is it for this review! Things are getting serious from what I can read and hoping to read the next episode and review it for you all! Next time will be doing my Glam Bag Plus!

The Book Quadrant: Nemecene: Through Fire & Ice by. Kaz Lefave

Note: Anyone new to anime reading this I am including a clip to Erik Vale’s Kimbley if I can find it.Hello to all of my beautiful nerds and welcome back from traveling the vast nerd universe! I am back with another book review!

Nemecene: Through Fire & Ice by. Kaz Lefave

Disclaimer: This book was requested through NetGalley and was able to get a free copy of and able to read. This review is based on thoughts and opinions from the lead writer of this blog so respect what she has to say and thank you!

As Earth gets hotter every day Elize’s decreasing mental stability brings on new voices that no one not even her buddy Stitch nor her brother Keeto would understand. Within this last episode of the first trilogy of the ten episode series, we get more clues of what’s going on and how Elize is able to see what is going on with Stitch and Keeto tagging along. As each page turns, our three heroes find out new things that Dr. Tenille has handed Elize and the newer counselor so they can find out what had happened to the orphans from the Aldemedina Orphanage and responsible for these happenings.

On top of it, Sothese, the first narrator and new player in this game as the Spiritual Councilman to the Prenam, has his sights on ELize and snakes around anyone who gets in the way to find her as the Pranum’s leadership declines slowly. Will Elize, Keeto, and Stitch be able to keep themselves safe in order to take down whoever is behind the acts taking place in their new home? Will Elize be able to keep herself in control while new clues resurface?

Thoughts: I have to say is that sorry for this taking so long to read? I was trying to read it on my Braille Sense Polaris but due to new Firmware updates it always brought the book back to the beginning so I started reading it on an app that a former co-worker told me about called Natural Read and it worked out very well. It is basically a PDF reading app for your phone and when you encounter any PDF files you can Share it to the app itself. Now onto my thoughts.

I liked this book more than the first two because we get to see more what is going on with Elize and how Keeto is trying to find ways of helping her with Stitch. I felt like this was more of a story about her because of what she was going through with the voices inside her head and it felt like she was taking on her mom’s psychosis all thanks to them. I did like how her personality changed from sweet and innocent to someone who had a major attitude issue and then switched back due to realizing what she was doing or forgetting about it later. This book did show how it was driving her insane even towards the end where things were getting darker for her due to harming herself. I did feel like I was looking in on both Keet and Elize because of how they have grown through each episode and how I felt that this story is starting to shed layers like an onion in what they are going through as each page turned and as each day drew on since this takes on midday for Elize with how she goes through her day of seeing the doctor or the captain characters that she has interacted with about her voices and so on and any clues dealing with their mother while Keeto is late evening with his journal writing to their mother about the day’s events.

While Sothese, on the other hand, in the book description I felt like I was wanting to punch him with how of a…pardon my French…asshole he is! I understand he is important to the story and how he wants to find Elize but how he does it is so creepy! I know there was one challenge where we had to pick a voice or actor for this guy and I chose Erik Vale but using his Kimbley voice from FullMetal Alchemist which makes him sound creepy enough and thought that voice as I read the book on my Braille Sense and on Natural Read. What I found it interesting was how he made Caroline involved with this as a way of luring Keeto into it and who knows maybe with the next episode there may be more to it and Sothese’s plans since we did end the book on a bit of a cliffhanger where he has Elize at last and I can’t wait to see what happens next.

Rating: 5 Out of 5 Star Paw Prints! This book is one of the best I’ve read in Sci-Fi so far due to how mysterious it sounds. I found Sothese’s actions creep7y but it does show how he wants to get what he needs and that is by using different people as pawns even if it’s at the risk of his job in the religious unit. ELize is starting to show more of herself even if new voices come to be and how she interacts with them as each day goes on makes it even more interesting and you do get to see her other side by the end of the book where things start getting juicier. While Keeto is trying to figure out more things about Elize that may have been shared between her and their mom since it looks like she may be facing the same fate as her and plus it’s starting to get more interesting to learn that he and Elize may not be human as he thinks. I can’t wait to see what Episode Four has in store for me since I want to see more of what is going on and plus this book series is painting our world as time goes on since we are going through major climate changes. One example, huge wasps nests in Alabama and a tree species dying in Alaska due to Hemlock. Who knows what else is happening in our world and it would add more material to these books I guess.

That is it for this book review. More books to be read reviewed as time goes on since I do have a new Mimi Jean Pamfiloff book coming up to review since I still have my kitty nose in that one. Stay tuned!

The Book Quadrant: The Extinction Agenda by. Michael Lawrence

Hello to all of my beautiful nerds and welcome back from traveling the vast universe! I am back with a new review!

The Extinction Agenda by. Michael Lawrence

Disclaimer: This review is based on thoughts and opinions of the lead writer of this blog! Please respect her thoughts on this piece of media!

Jason Mason and his team of F. B. I. Agents stumble upon a discovery of a deadly virus created to end human life but when the place they were looking into as a possible hideout goes up in flame and his team including his partner get killed on the mission, James knows that there is a piece missing to all of this and wonders how the people behind the virus are finding out that he was coming after them?

After being obsessed to find the clues and the links, James ends up losing his wife who tried getting close to the investigation and now he has to piece the clues and find out about a man that has been found at any historical periods of this virus being made and used and meets one of the test subjects to find those pieces out. What does he find out? Well, that is one answer that this book shows!

My Thoughts: I was on the edge of my seat every moment of this book! This was a really good suspense mystery from beginning to end! I felt like the main character was going to die almost every time while reading it. I did get the Resident Evil vibe while reading it too. The image of skeletons burnt still invade my thoughts even took me back to the Castlevania anime series which I don’t want to spoil that either.

I would say is that you would never thought that a virus could be made but it can and how it could be used against humanity. This is basically Man vs. Man due to how much it was revealed towards the end even after meeting Alehandra who survived being tested on with this kind of virus to find her sister along with it. I did like how she played a huge part in the rest of the book since she did want to have revenge like James did for his wife but it was for her sister. I don’t want to give too much away but they are related in this book. I did find the reveal of the bad guys towards the end even more interesting because you would not think who the key players were until you read it to the end. And one more thing, I did like how tech was played in this book because as a tech nerd myself even with Adaptive Tech that sattleites can be used to detect you and your body heat. I found that really interesting when it was set in winter throughout the rest of the book. It can show that tech can be a scary thing even with how the bad guys were using it throughout the book. I would say just give it a good read!

Rating: Five Star Paw Prints Out of Five! This was a very awesome book if you’re into Resident Evil and other books that deal with medical science and technology. It was an edge-of-your-seat book where you would think someone would die but people still survive no matter how the odds are stacked against them. If there was a sequel planned, I think I would like to know since the final message from one of the bad guys was kind of cryptic and how files were going to be looked at in the end. I did like the clues that dealt with using chemical symbols from the Perodic Table and how each place was being destroyed to keep it under wraps. I hope there would be a second one because I want to see what happens next and what they find even if it didn’t look like there is a hook!

Well, that is it guys for this review! I am glad to get another one up after so long and hoping to get one up soon since I am reading the third installment the Librarian’s Vampire Assistant. What’s next? My May and June Favorites!

Books: Nemecene: The Gadlin Conspiracy

Hello Shiquers and welcome back to Nerdy Shique Universe! I am back with another book review!

Title: Nemecene: The Gadlin Conspiracy
Author: Kaz Lefave

Disclaimer: This book review is based on thoughts and opinions by the lead writer of this blog. Please respect her thoughts and opinions and make sure you check out the links!

What is it about? Last time on Nemecene, we have met Elize and Keeto and got to see their first part of the adventure of leaving their father behind to go to Eadonberg which is a city where they would find the answers to their questions about what had happened to their mother and guided to them by Nithruyu, someone who Keeto has connected with until she got captured.

In this book, we see the twins continue their questions to find out the mystery about what has been taken place by leaving the protective bio walls of the city with their buddy, Zefarian to find new clues. Besides seeing their adventures, we meet another first narrator by the name of Nepharis, a sapphire-eyed redhead who is also soft spoken whose quiet dealings give into misguided expectations. Since people can’t resist the wings of her words and how she’s able to travel through time, new murders arise with new young victims among the midst. Not only Keeto, Elize, and Stitch have to be careful, so does she as she finds out that dangerous things have been taking place around the city and has her own opinion about it and if she says one wrong thing or take one misstep then she would meet Nithruyu’s fate.

Thoughts: This book with how it started and ended makes me want to read this series even more. This was a good continuation from where Epoch of Redress ended and it did start a bit lighthearted with Keeto’s and Elize’s birthday which it felt like it linked to something but later on which I don’t want to tell. I do like how Keet and Eli grew a little bit as this book progressed because we got to see them in the workplace. Stitch was also interesting this book since I felt like you can trust him and not trust him at other points and I felt like he was knowing a lot more than he looks, even with his mood ring hair where he goes into a mood and his hair changes color. I can’t wait what the next book holds for him since he did reveal that his mom was taken.

Nepharuss on the other hand, I found her very interesting too because it felt like she had Nithruyu’s trust when she had to step up into place. I do like how she pops in and out of nowhere to tell her part of the story to go through her experiences. I do have to say is that she has an interesting power she can kill anyone with a touch or kiss. She is deadly in her own way even more than Nithruyu! I hope there would be more stuff with her because I feel that it’s not over with her since she started to connect with Elize towards the end of the book. All I have to say is that I can’t wait to read on with this series because of how the world would probably look like if we don’t take care of it and also the characters are able to survive. I also can’t wait to see how the adventure continues because in this book it did take a twist that dealt with any woman that has twins, I wonder why people want to take anyone who has twins even while pregnant? I hope more things come up and can’t wait to see what Kaz has in store!

Rating: 5 Star Paw Prints Out of 5! So far so good, this series is having a great start! This book did give us pretty interesting new situations and clues to the mystery of what’s going on. It also brings more to the world that everyone is living in now which one part they go into a cavern with fossils of creatures from the past and Nepharus reveals that they have to look for waters that they want to live in again. I found that weird yet interesting. I do still love Keeto’s telling of the story in his journal because you get to see the connection with his mother’s spirit more and more as you read his segments and I can’t wait to do the challenge where what actor you would pick to play Keeto since Kaz did that with Elize and Stitch, which I remembered picking Brina Palencia to voice Elize because I liked how she did her British accent in Glass Fleet and I forgot who I picked for Stitch. If I were to pick for Keeto I would think Josh Grelle because he does younger character voices well and not sure how he would do an accent. It would be interesting. I think Gondras will have a field day reading the third book since I have it in print now, I may have to explain a bit of what’s going on and hoping he would be interested in this even while reading.

Well, that’s it for this book review! I know it was a long time coming to read this one but life did get in a way along with many other books! I will be leaving links to this book Kaz’s website so you can join in on the challenges of being an envoy which I highly recommend! It’s fun because you get to be creative and I will also leave a link to a video trailer for Epoch of Redress in case if you’re curious Nemecene: The Gadlin ConspiracyKaz Lefave’s Website for Nemecenelittle kittens! Until next time!

Books: Siege Line by. Mike Cole!

Hello Shiquers and welcome back to Nerdy Shique Universe! It’s time for a new book review from Net Galley!

Title: Siege Line
Author: Mike Cole

Disclaimer: This review is based on thoughts and opinions based on observation from the lead writer of this blog. Please respect her thoughts on this book!

What Is It About? Jim Schweitzer had everything! He was a Navy Seal and even had a family until the Gemini Cell took those two things away alongside his life. Once brought back to life by a certain magic, Schweitzer must take out the Gemini Cell in order to get everything back unless the shadowy director tries to stop him first and go to the sub-arctic regions of Canada to find someone with the same magic powers to give him an actual body. Schweitzer must join forces with the American Forces and Canadian Forces in order to take out this shadowy figure in order to get what he lost after being brought back from death.

Thoughts: Holy crap! This book was a lot of action and I felt like I was with Schweitzer through the entire thing! Well, also Man Killer on top of it, who is a former Canadian Force Member since parts of the story told from her point of view. If you’re into stories where it not only contains military related things but also fantasy mixed in due to the Necromancy aspects, this book is actually for you! I never thought that this book would give a new twist on zombie stories while reading it. Yeah, they’re fast and some of them don’t have as much speech like with the George Romero zombies but they gave an interesting twist. As in, if your soul was brought back into your body you would have more strength to you but your body will start decomposing over time due to how broken it is in the first place and that is where using metal to re-construct someone came in. What I found it even more interesting, later on we meet Man Killer’s, Sgt. Plan by the way, grandfather to help save the town later on we find out that he said he could only put souls in animal bodies which you get to see with wolves and bears and another thing is that being brought back into a certain body your eyes either change gold or silver.

What I like the most about this book is how the fights were handled in the sub-arctic areas of Canada. Normally in a lot of zombie books, films, and games, it was normally done in the middle of nowhere in a small town, a city, or how Resident Evil: Afterlife did it, where the fight against zombies was on a ship in the middle of the ocean. This book had the fights mostly done in the frigid northwest of Canada! A lot of things can take place in an environment like that since you can use the snow to your advantage and the cold climate can also be used to the advantage since of course bodies need to be preserved in ice if they need to be examined. Way to go Cole for changing the environment for a zombie fight. I did like how the survival was even more real for everyone in Sgt. Plan’s little town which I liked her as a character the most because throughout the entire thing she was pretty much the one who didn’t want to take any chances even leading the enemy to her grandfather. Yeah, she lost some people but she didn’t let it affect her to the point of being all wishy washy, she was always moving to keep the town safe until help arrives.

Rating: 5 Out of 5 Star Paw Prints! I found this book to be a great change to a lot of the zombie/Necromancy stories since it gave a nice small town idea a change to make it more of a town in an arctic location. Heck, it even rose the stakes because if you’re familiar with the area then you have an advantage in how to get around. There is one thing that I think needed some improvement and that is wondering what happened to the Senator we get to meet in the beginning of the story because he kept things under wraps until things went wrong. There should be a sequel to see what happened to him since some books do one point of view and then shows what happens behind-the-scenes in another. I also wondered is there anything else to the Gemini Cell? I mean since they killed some of the specimens they used were there more that weren’t killed that weren’t seen in the book? That is what I like to know. Plus, would be interesting to see if anything escaped or a new guy with magic comes to the scene because this can be an interesting new version of the Umbrella Corps. Heck, would make an interesting new video game in my opinion.

Well, that’s it for this review! I will be also including a link to this book because I need to remember that! Don’t worry I will have another review Siege Line by. Mike Colesince I have so many books to go through! Until next time and stay tuned for more posts! Make sure you follow us on Twitter @ Nerdy Shique!

Conventions: Omni Fandom Expo 2018: The Most Inspirational Anime Convention Year!

Hello Shiquers and welcome back to Nerdy Shique Universe! I’m back from Omni Expo 2018 and man I am exhausted but feel inspired! How so? Well, this year was a huge inspirational convention and there were things that took place that were things that made me not feel inspired but an inspiration on its own. I will explain as the review goes on.

Disclaimer: This review is based on thoughts, opinions, and observation of the lead writer of this blog. Please respect her thoughts on this convention and thank you!

Man! This year was a huge year for Omni Expo and let’s see let’s start with location!

Location: This year Omni Expo was at the Florida Hotel again since it was a success at this location a year ago. Last year, the format was a little weird because of Panel Room 1 being close to the vendor hall and the Main Events Room and so on, this year they changed it up slightly. Instead of having Panel Room 1 close to Vendors, they put it closer to the Gamin Rooms and Panel Room 2 which 2 was changed and was a bit bigger from last year. As in, PR 2 is not as tiny, I don’t feel like my claustrophobia was being affected, it was just longer and had more chairs in the audience area. PR 1, on the other hand, it was wider! As in, it seems like they wanted these rooms to be bigger than last year’s rooms and glad they went with that especially with more people attendee this convention. Yes, there was a bigger turn out this year that I’ve noticed and glad to see that with this year. Heck, someone even posted on the Florida Mall Facebook saying, “There are so many people with weird colored hair, armor, and more.” This is what happens when you hold a convention, heck I still remember walking past Auntie Ann’s last year as Link and everyone followed with their gazes.

Vendors Hall: This year’s Vendors Hall felt like it was the same size as last year. Even though I was hoping Surreal Makeup would be back for this year since there was one item I did see I would like to get but they weren’t there which sucked a little. Hoping to catch them again somewhere at Holiday Matsuri if we get press again or just buy from their website. I did find something nice that I did end up picking up and that is a Pink Ranger lunch box from the same guy who sells a lot of old school stuff even from Power Rangers. It is the classic Mighty Morphen Pink Ranger and as you know it brings back so many memories and when I was around that age I didn’t get any Power Rangers stuff except the movie items from McDonald’s when I was about to go into the fourth grade and wanted to see that movie but saw Pocahontas instead. This lunch box does come in handy to carry food in even for convention time when I do carry sandwiches and other things, heck I think it’s roomier than my Dead Pool Chimichanga truck lunch box. We did bump into the Japanese snacks guy we always love buying from since he spotted me through my Rarity cosplay and I thought he wouldn’t be selling at the convention but silly kitty or shall I say unicorn me was glad to see him and did get another mystery bag and a bag of strawberry Kit Kats to try out! Look out for a video on that! Besides the vendors, they did bring back some of the vehicles they had on display, which we did hear the Jurassic Park theme song playing in the back and that was next to Rob Simms’s table. We mostly mingled with some of the other guests, I did get to talk to Mesumi Sempai a little bit since I never got to talk to her one on one and she is one of the nicest people you will ever meet. We did talk to Paul St. Peter again since we have interviewed him last year and it was sad that he didn’t bring back Pirate Curses. We did go to two of his other panels which….

Events & Panels: This year was eventful! Even more than last year! I can see why there was a bigger turn out since there were a lot of guests coming including Sawa who was the Japanese singer that was invited this year, we wanted to interview her but due to her being on high demand for interviews and her schedule being busy we will be arranging a Skype interview sometime soon. We did go to her acoustic show Saturday night and if you haven’t seen her live I would suggest to do so! We do have both of her CDs and I will probably do a review of them whenever I can get the time to do it since now I’ve been pretty busy. I did get brought to tears during one of her songs since it was very touching and hearing it acoustic made it even more special. She did do one medley but don’t want to tell you guys about it since she did say not to record that one but the others you could. I did like the song “What Is Wrong with Me?” since that is also a sticker you could get for free at her table and can’t wait to hear the album version. We did go to her panel on Sunday and it was very educational because we get to learn about the bath houses and she shown pictures of the one her family owns. It’s interesting to learn that like with apprenticeships, where you take up some of the more cultural things like being a Geisha and puppetry, it is starting to become a bit of a dying breed due to people in Japan starting to get their own bathrooms to take showers and baths in. If you’re visiting Japan at all, I would say visit them or even Sawa’s family’s bathhouse since we have seen them in anime and movies why not check out the real one? Also, meet Sawa if she is at a convention near you because she is a major sweetheart!

Besides going to Sawa’s stuff, we did go to, well I did go to the Crystal Carnivale ball since it was RWBY themed this year. As you know, Gondras and I are huge fans and well we did have a bit of a hiccup at the door. The thing was Gondras was supposed to be my escort despite not being formally dressed, I thought he would do his Fourth Doctor but he didn’t since it would be a little hot in the Florida Mall Hotel despite it being cold at night, I know the weather should have happened during Holiday Matsuri. Anyways, when we got to the door, they wouldn’t allow Gondras in even though we asked the staff it was okay and apparently word didn’t get to the volunteers at the door. I didn’t want to waste the $5 and went in anyways. One of the staff members did find me and apologized for what had happened at the door and was appreciative for what we have done ever since the convention started. I did spend the rest of the hour there but felt bad for Gondras even though they wanted him back in and I tried telling him to come back which they said it was okay, he didn’t want to. I did try having fun at least and got to see the Nora cosplayer, since she is one of my fave characters from the series, perform even if I couldn’t see it. The funny thing though, not sure if they got the vibe from my dress or something, the room was split into red and white tables representing Team RWBY and Team JNPR and when you entered the ball you were given a pack of buttons with clothes pins in the color representing that team and I was already sitting at a white tablecloth table and asked what color was the clothespin and it was white. I did joke in my notes, “Maybe they knew I had a Team JNPR shirt?” Which is true, I have it in my closet again to go with my new RWBY chiffon skirt and hat! I did reunite with Gondras and we go to the Creating Good Guys panel and Bad Guys panels that night since I am a writer after all and have been on a major writer’s block with my third book and getting back into it, it was interesting in my opinion since it did give me new insights in how I should take my story. I even asked advice from Kaz LeFave and Mimi Jean Pamfiloff recently and I thank them for that. In between both of those panels, we did attend Derek Steven Prince’s Jeopardy panel which I did put on our itinerary as a possible thing to do. We did participate in it and winning lets you spend an hour with him. Did we win? Yes! It was a challenge with most of the questions and we got to learn more about him before the interview which you will catch on our YouTube soon which that was our entire hour with him. He did come into the Creating Bad Guys panel and sit in on it. I think we do have video from that so you will get to see the Good Guys and Bad Guys panels.

Many other events and panels we went to include the two panels that Bruce Carr also known as No Ordinary Balloon Man which if you haven’t catched him at a con, you should because he does a lot of balloon creations. This year he went all Digimon with Wyrmon, Tai, and the Digimon Emperor! We did see Josh Seth stand next to the Tai creation during the weekend which was awesome. What panel stood out between the two he had done was Twisting Up the Odds because what was interesting about him is that he has Asperger’s along with Evan, which we also catch with him and records video of his creations, and it was a very inspirational panel. One thing I have to say is that being disabled people think you can’t do anything and it’s heartbreaking to see that. I did help with making a penguin because Bruce pulled me up to the front due to his story about how he went into balloon making and that he and I recreated the penguin he had made for a boy that not only his condition but was also blind and that he came to me for that it brought tears of joy. Heck, trying to keep my composure here! I still have the penguin and knowing that my final review part may make you guys cry so have the tissues because I may need them too! Another event on a happier note, the Live Script Reading! This year’s script reading was very entertaining and it included Sawa, Paul, Derek, Josh, one of the cosplay guests, and Rob Simms and the scripts they had included from Star Wars, Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2, and Fifth Element. Perfect timing for Guardians 2 since they had the scenes with Taser Face and the one where Groot had to get Yandu’s fin back. In the Taser Face thing, Sawa played the part of Rocket and she did pretty well and she did narrate the Yandu and Groot part where Josh was Rocket, Rob was Groot, and Derek was Yandu. He gave him the Veemon voice from what I was noticing and it fit! I still busted out laughing with the human toe part! That still gets me even when how the audio description read it out to me while seeing the movie a year ago. And another event was Josh Seth’s illusion show that he made for Omni Expo! What most people probably don’t know is that he does magic related things and it was an amazing show that he put together for Omni and how he made the tricks. Heck, the final trick, he had the serial number on Gondras’ dollar bill in the end! Holy crap! Two thumbs up if you’re into magic shows. It was my first one live as a blind person since Gondras wanted to see how Josh would make his show seen by a blind person since on Pen & Teller’s Fool Us show one of the magicians did a card trick made for a blind participant in mind. I did participate somewhat in the final trick where he tried asking me to come up but he had me stay in the audience. Don’t want to fall off another stage which…in case anyone is asking…my panel…no one came again! I am not sure if it is my time slot selection since the cosplay contest was going on and hoped to get some remains of Josh’s crowd from his creative panel. Empty and again Gondras had to play the crowd which I do have video from. Not sure if I should bring another panel or not, who knows what will happen next year.

Rating: ::hears alarms:: SUPER CONVENTION ACCOMPLISHED! What does that mean? It means this convention had a major accomplishment since things have gone through the roof! This year’s Omni has been a major inspirational convention because of how we can tackle obstacles and put ourselves out there. Ever since Omni first found this blog all thanks to a small typo, I wouldn’t be still doing press for them to this day and is keeping me hopeful for my future doing press. Not only that, also my dreams to become an Assistive Tech Specialist since I was told to stick with writing except I use tech in order to write and without that tech I wouldn’t be writing this review and Nerdy Shique Universe wouldn’t exist! All I have to say is that all thanks to meeting Sawa, Derek Steven Prince, even getting to be up there with Bruce helping him with re-creating that penguin, it has inspired me to go further. What really makes me go further was that staff member, Roy, who came to talk to me before the Crystal Carnivale ever started and telling me that they have appreciated what not only me but what Gondras and Nerdy Shirts had done over the years. Yes, I went to year one alone and came back with two other members and looking at what we’ve done is a major accomplishment and that really warmed my heart. ::sees kitty minions with tissue boxes:: Thanks! ::takes one:: So in the end, I hung up my Omni Expo badge as a symbol of how much we’ve done in the past and even this year. Thank you Omni Expo for bringing us for press every year and showing that you guys may be small as heck but you still bring people to your convention even if it’s before springtime and had to switch with MegaCon. You guys are still a favorite and keep on going!

Needs for Improvement: Even though this year was really good but I do have two things to improve on…

Improving Volunteers With Escorts: As in, letting them know that even if they don’t have formal wear but let their escorts into the Crystal Carnivale when it comes to being disabled. Staff did apologize to me in person which was the best thing ever and I did write to Omni that there should be something in place to help any disabled, especially blind, attendees when it comes to getting around and even having their escorts with them in a special way. For instance, when I was in the costume contest last year as Link, I had Gondras escort me to where I need to be and they let him help and even handled Ageslash in making it wave. Anyways, that should be a permanent thing for certain events whether it’s being a contestant or going into the formal even if the escort is not dressed for the occasion.
Signings Should Be In A Small Room: What I mean by this is that the lines for the guests were taking up foot traffic in the Vendor’s Room which there were the area for shopping and it was hard to see who was in line for the guests and who was going to a vendor. I think the Florida Mall Hotel can move the walls so it would be a nice section to block off between the vendor halls and have people either peek in to see if a guest is around or see about the schedule on an easel to say, “Hey! This person is going to be back at this time!” Would ease the foot traffic a little or expand the width of the vendor’s area to make it more expanded for signings. I missed it where in the Double Tree near Universal there was a big area for the guests to sign things and that was out of the way of people walking, it was the same way back at the Rosen Center in 2015 and even year one where there was one huge area towards the back of the vendor area for guests so it would be easier to walk around. So yeah, there should be a bigger area for guests and/or make a room separate for them so foot traffic won’t be so obstructed. Always next year folks!

Guest Suggestions: Since I haven’t put this in here, now starting to with new reviews, I think conventions should be suggested some people and take them on a bit more. Here are my suggestions for 2019!

Melissa Fon: Since we have three Digimon guest, why not get someone from one of the most iconic of the seasons and darkest of them all, Melissa Fon who played Rika. She also was the voice of Edward in Cowboy Bebop!
Steve Blum: He was at Holiday Matsuri and would be fun for him to return for another Orlando convention!
Mary Elizabeth McGlynn: Can’t have Steve without Mary since they have worked with each other in the past!
Neil Kaplan: He has not been back to Orlando has he? He plays Halsemon and Hawkmon in Digimon Season 2 and any Voltron: Legendary Defender fans, he is Zarcon for that season!
Team FourStar: It’s been four years since they’ve been back and it would be fun to bring the main three, Lenimpataur, Takata, and KaiserNekko to bring on the fun. Especially with Final Fantasy VII Mission Abridged being such a hit. Try having your fiancé quote Vincent Valentine from this!
Louis Lovehog also known as Linkara: Since MythiCon had ended in 2014, I think we’re missing Atop the Fourth Wall Live and it would be fun to see him do another comic here in the Sunshine State!

Well, that is it for this review! Don’t worry everyone, we do have videos coming up from this year’s event! From my panel to our interview with Mr. Prince, we have a lot! Not only that, I did say we are trying to arrange a Skype interview with Sawa in the near future due to her packed schedule and hoping we can get it up before whatever convention we go to next. Knowing that our time differences well probably be worked around since she is in Japan and we’re in the U. S. would be nice to visit Japan, wouldn’t it? Hey, we have to work with what we got and I did re-install Skype since we have our first interview in the works to make up for not being able to interview anyone during Holiday Matsuri last year. You will see! So, in the meantime, make sure you follow us on Twitter @ Nerdy Shique for all the latest updates for our posts here on Word Press and YouTube. In case if you want to suggest who we should start doing Skype interviews with, would like suggestions and see if we can reach out. We also would like authors too since we do have book reviews here! So, until next time! Catch you all on the universe side!

Books + Access Tech: Nemecene: The Epoch Of Redress by. Kaz LaFave

Hello Shiquers and welcome back to Nerdy Shique Universe! I’m back with a new book review!

Title :Nemecene: The Epoch of Redress
Author: Kaz LaFave

Disclaimer: This review is based on the lead writer’s thoughts and opinions! Please respect her thoughts on this book! Spoilers may happen but at the same time it won’t. And by the way, this is also dealing with Assistive Tech!

Synopsis: This story takes place in a toxic future where dead oceans and poisonous gases exist, we meet Elize and Keeto who are twins that are a target for a deadly predator and must save Elize from the fate that their mother had faced and the mystery of her death floods Elize’s dreams every night along with the same psychological illness that their mother had been imprisoned for and died from.

Keeto is an archaeologist and bookworm who keeps Elize’s problem from their oppressive father and afraid that he would find out and have her committed and they escape to Edenborough, a floating city with a bio wall. While in Edenborough, Elize befriends Zafarian, who is known for breaking the law but has an expertise in gadgetry doesn’t please Keeto but the three end up in a conspiracy to find out what has happened and piece the mystery that is front of them even if a stranger is trying to get in contact with them with certain clues.

Despite taking up new identities, Elize being an intern at the university and Keeto being an archaeologist at the Museum of Antiquities, Elize starts noticing how fragile she is and coming to terms with it. Will they be able to survive and find out what happened to their mother? Will deceit and lies take them down an even more dangerous path?

Thoughts: This book had a longer description but I condensed it as best as I could. Anyways, this book was a very interesting and entertaining read. When I saw the third book up for request, I knew I had to check it out and noticed the other two were also up for request and took them on. Well, that is where tech comes into play.

I had some issues with downloading the protected PDFs and even tried to access Acrobat Digital Reads and still wouldn’t work. So, I worked with Kaz to make her books accessible for me to read my computer. As you guys know, besides reading on my Galaxy Tablet, IPad, and IPhone SE, soon to upgrade to the 8 this year, I also read books on my computer and have been for many years. I use JAWS as a way to read DAISY formats on FS Reader and PDFs on Adobe Acrobat. Before, Adobe was not accessible and it always read things in code or gives me “Warning: Empty Document!” Which I and Kaz were able to work around that together which some companies and colleges do when it comes to providing reading material to their visually impaired clients and students. I did suggest NLS Bard and Book share to Kaz to get her stuff converted so anyone who wants to read after this review can have a new alternative when she looks into it. She did get the PDFs of the first two episodes without images and chapter art and it worked! I do have the third episode in paperback for Gondras to read to me which I miss having a paperback in my paws! Trust me, I sniffed it because I was really happy about it. Hey, try missing having actual books in my collection.

Anyways, my thoughts on the first book! I loved it! I found it how interesting the chapters took on the points of view of three characters which happen to be Nithruyu, the one who has been following the twins throughout the story in this episode, Elize, which you get to see how she interacts with people and going through her state of mind, and Keeto where his telling is in journal-style but as messages to their mother which I liked his storytelling the most. I hardly seen storytelling like this especially when it takes on different points of view of three characters that are important to the story. You get to see how they think of one person if they can trust them or not, or how they see each other, and even what they explore in Edenborough.

What I liked the most was how the world was painted after climate change took its course. Since this is a science fiction story, there are times where books are written in different versions of Earth in the future and there are times where we wonder if Earth is going to end up like Venus or are there going to be colonies around planets like in the anime Gravion, or what Evangelion painted with the Second Impact where the ocean changed to a red color and Angels attack. These are good pictures of what the writers and animators have painted for us and LaFave did it with this one which is almost like what took place in the Second Impact where the oceans are dead and we have poisonous gases taking root and there are still some cities that are around, like Edenborough for example, and in order to get from one place to the next you have floating platforms and trains. I’m hoping to see more of Earth looking like this in more episodes to come since this is supposed to be nine episodes long and a conclusion and can’t wait to see what Episode 2 holds for me after how this has ended since I don’t want to give too much away but definitely recommend. I even recommended it to the women over on Galactic Suburbia since they are known for recommending a lot of books, especially ones crowding my Book share and NLS Bard shelves on my Victor Reader Stream but they do get recommendations from their audience. Hoping they read my tweet!

If I were to pick a character I would say Elize is the one I liked. Reason being is that she is quirky in a very cute way especially with how she interacts with Stitch, which is the guy she became friends with and it’s his nickname by the way. Plus, you get to see how her state of mind develops as the episode continues. I did read in the description for the third book that it gets worse but I have to see Episode 2 to get me to Episode 3 first since knowing, like with anime and manga, you have to go book by book and episode by episode to know what the character is going through. I can’t wait to see what happens to her next since knowing that Nithruyu gives a message to Keeto to look for the answers in his sister. Speaking of anime, if this was animated as a tv series, I would see either Luci Christian or Jamie Marchi do Elize’s voice and give it a slight Scottish accent since I was imagining either one voicing her while reading it.

Rating: 5 Star Paw Prints Out of 5! This book was a perfect story and glad I was able to Kaz in order to make it accessible for me to read. I guess this series is starting off with perfect teamwork both in the pages and outside in how people can work together. I can’t wait to see what Episode 2 holds for our three companions along with Stitch and see how much more the world gets painted in this new Earth. I will be reviewing Episode 2 for you guys so I would suggest to hang on tight for when I finish with the next installment!

Well, that’s it for this book review! I was glad to work with Kaz LaFave in getting this book readable and if you’re in Canada and find her at a bookstore on her book tour, I would suggest dropping by and saying “Hi!” And pick up a copy! I will leave a link to this first episode if you little kittens in the Nerd Universe want to be curious! What’s next? Not sure but I will come up with something! Until next time!

Books: Reincarnation Blues by. Michael Poore

Hello Shiquers and welcome back to Nerdy Shique Universe! I know I was going to do a post on Aira but I finished another book!

Title: Reincarnation Blues
Author: Michael Poore

Disclaimer: This review is based on thoughts and opinions of the lead writer and producer of this blog! Please respect her thoughts and opinions and there might be spoilers!

Synopsis: This book is hard to describe so here I go! We meet Milo in this book who has died and been reincarnated in so many lives that he is up to 9, 995 and has five more times to do it again and do it right! He has started as a Greek warrior and then ended up on the planet of Europa. He has to do it right so he could be with his true love, Death herself, Suzie.

Suzie is known as Death and has been in love with Milo ever since. She figures out that she doesn’t want to stay in the universal unknown even after finding out that if Milo reincarnates five more times he will vanish into the light. What can she do? Can she reincarnate herself so she can be with Milo?

Thoughts: This book was confusing! I am not kidding! I couldn’t figure out what Poore was writing because he was writing about Milo the most who was reincarnating. At first he was a wise, old fisherman in Florida and then the next he’s in the world of Death where it’s apartments and houses, etc. I do like how he painted that world because we always wonder, like the Ancient Egyptians, is there an actual afterlife? I think I liked Outlaw Star’s rendition because it was mostly showing purgatory in the end. Anyways, then it turns to him killing the Buddha? Or the Buddha just dying due to a stomach ailment which that’s what cause of death back was then. And finally Europa!? They did say on Planetary Radio that there might be water up there for sustaining human life. Anyways, it was interesting but I was like, “Okay! What does this have to do with the story?”

Again, I found the book very confusing because it did start off very well and went out of nowhere with all these reincarnation cycles. I was expecting Suzie to be an actual woman on Earth not Death since that is what I got from the description when I requested this book. Also, it did say “Science Fiction” which I am still wondering “Where’s the sci-fi!?” I see it with the space travel but Poore could’ve done it better in my opinion. This could’ve worked as a standalone romance story but not just adding sci-fi into the mix. I have read better sci-fi romances in the past and they were better than this one. Sorry!

Rating: 2.5 Out of 5 Star Paw Prints! I felt that this book was just too confusing and the story was all over the place and missing its sci-fi origins. I think the only interesting bit was the idea of how purgatory was painted while the rest not so much. I admit I wanted to let this book go but I had to finish it for review purposes. If you want to read this go ahead but you might be confused as much as I was.

Reincarnation BluesWell, that’s it for this review! Next will be my post on Aira!
